A bit of a grin crossed Sebastian’s face at Jay’s comment. "I’ve never heard it put that way, but I like it. Have to get the most out of life, right?" He looked over at Jay curiously, seeming to consider a moment, tapping a fist against his chin before giving an affirmative nod. "Sure, why not? I like the idea of trying something new; definitely something to do if battling isn’t a thing." It’d probably get boring once in a while after all just going after the gyms and it gave any pokemon he couldn’t really put to use in battle a place to preform at least.
Nodding, he took a look around as well, quieting for a moment as he considered the question. "Nope, I haven’t actually. Seen a couple of them on the television though." He looked up as they walked, studying the reflections in the ceiling a moment. "They seem pretty impressive though, a lot of making your pokemon’s moves look good, just sort of… selling them." The corners of Sebastian’s mouth quirked down a little as a thought crossed his mind. "I think actually there might be different categories of contests. Don’t quote me on it though." He’d only seen a few from time to time, but he was fairly certain he’d heard about different categories or something the like.
"Does your Squirtle know anything about that?" He couldn’t help but smirk a bit. It didn’t hurt to question, did it?

Jay smiled. "Heh, well, glad t'hear it. 'N 'zactly. Not t'mention, if ya organize too much, ya may not see what ya ain't puttin' in yer plan, 'n miss out 'n such," he remarked. And could he get some chips with that cheese? He knew it was a lot of cliched thoughts, but personally, he didn't really care. Didn't matter how overused something was, if it was true, and applied. Hell, it was probably overused because it was true and so easily applied.
He nodded a bit when Sebastian confirmed his possible interest. Boy, this sure was twisting what he thought he knew on contests a bit. Jay wasn't sexist or anything, he knew that guys did contests all the time, but he always thought it was more of a sort of... select group. The ones that were interested in the beauty of things, of organized performances, practice, discipline. 'Sure, why note?' wasn't an attitude he'd really applied to it, and he hadn't really expected to end up caught up in it himself, either. But, he supposed he had the same feeling towards it-- he might as well see what he could do, now that he had a pokemon that was interested, and potentially others, once he got around to really asking them.
"Huh.... S'pose that makes sense. Kinda hard to compare, say... Heracross, with sumthin' cute like Quena, 'r a Chansey, 'r Audino, Plusle, 'n what have ya. Prolly simpler t' make categories fer thuh ones with diff'ent moves 'n styles ta compete in," he mused. He paused, then turned his head down towards Crystal when Sebastian asked about her. "Squirtle!" she declared confidently, hearing the question. Jay remained unresponsive, waiting for Mimey, and then lifted his head. "'Pparently," he remarked with a bit of amusement. Crystal lifted her head up, then looked curiously towards Jay, but not at his face; if he'd been able to observe this, he might have guessed Mimey was telepathically communicating with her. After a moment, this was confirmed as Jay straightened a bit. "Evidently she's been studyin' 'em on tv, in then in person, since she was little," he elaborated, clearly relaying some information, "S'pose we'll be able ta ask her any questions we have, then." He grinned, a bit amused by it. He had a feeling Crystal may not be quite as informed as she thought she was, but at least someone would sort of know what they were doing if they all started in on this little endeavor.

Sebastian’s grin grew a bit more as he chuckled. "Ya, eactly." Was his remark, thinking about it a little more. Contests sounded like they could be fun. He listened a moment, nodding along a bit as he tried to recall what he’d seen.
"Ya I mean, there has to be. I think one time I saw someone competing with a Voltorb…" He frowned, brow furrowing a bit as he gave a roll of his shoulders. "I mean I know, to each their own but… I wouldn’t exactly consider a Voltorb cute or anything." And if he recalled correctly, the thing had used self-destruct too. Exactly how that was contest material, he had no real clue.
He glanced at Crystal curiously, an eyebrow quirking as Jay relayed the information. His eyes looked from the Squirtle, to Jay, back to the Squirtle and then back to Jay. It was a sort of blank stare for a moment before a look of confusion finally blossomed on his face, brow furrowing even further. "Really…?" He questioned, tone hinting at a bit of uncertainty. He glanced between the two again before his head tilted curiously. "Well that is helpful some and – how exactly is she telling you all this anyways?" Sebastian sounded genuinely confused. I mean… if Jay had somehow mastered pokemon speech, then he was nothing short of impressed, but the lack of word exchange left him lost. Jay wasn’t one of those psychic people was he? Sebastian wasn’t really prepared to start trying to shield his thoughts.

Jacque raised his eyebrows. "All ah know 'bout Voltorb is they're spherical. 'Sides from that, ah'll admit, ah ain't never heard nothin' 'bout them bein' partic'ly perty 'r cute 'r nothin'," he remarked. 'Beauty' and 'Cute' and all that was something exceptionally lost on him -- again bringing about the oxymoron of having a blind coordinator -- but he could get some impressions of what some of it meant. 'Tough' wasn't something that really relied purely on sight; he'd heard music that was 'elegant' and 'beautify' and he could imagine movement that translated as such. Appearance? That was where it all went blank. And... to be fair, Voltorb were, as far as their shape went, void of appearance for him. They were basically large pokeballs that could make sounds, and had a few odd little echoes off some parts of their surfaces.
He gave a nod to Sebastian's question, and he didn't miss the tone of his voice, either. "Yeah," he confirmed, then absently tapped his bag, where mimey's pokeball was. "'N ah know 'cause ah got uh psychic pok'mon. She's in 'er pok'ball at thuh moment, but she's strong enough t' still sorta communicate with me 'n Crystal. She relayed thuh info. 'Pparently Contests got four types, bai thuh way. Cute, Tough, Cool, 'n Beauty. Which.... Evidently is what Crys'll be doin'." He shrugged, clearly expressing his lack of certainty to all of this. It was, clearly, second or third hand, and... given to him by a (possibly slightly delusional) pokemon.

Sebastian just gave Jay a look; it was a good thing the man was blind or he probably would’ve been questioning it. It was a mixture of concern and hesitation and… probably a bit of skepticism. The more listened and considered, the more he wondered if the contest thing was really something Jay could pull off. He wasn’t trying to judge; miracles happened but… he was certainly having a hard time even imagining it.
"Ooooooh. Okay then…," Well that was certainly a … relief? Was that the right word? The thought of a pokemon strong enough to use its powers outside of its pokeball was rather impressive and also a bit unnerving to think about. IT sounded like the kind of like a wiretap but with pokemon. Actually… it sounded kind of like it belonged in some kind of cop-law film. He shook the thought off for now.
"Four types hm?" Sounded about right in his mind; different show cases for different characteristics. "She wants to do the beauty contests?" Sebastian looked like he was considering something for a moment, glancing back to check and assure his pokemon were still with him. "Well I’m sure that’ll be interesting. She have any clue how they’re supposed to work?" All he knew is that things were supposed to be fancy. "Are her moves up to par for that?"

Jay simply nodded to Sebastian's 'ohhh' of understanding. He listened back, giving another nod when he repeated Crystal's interest. He paused, though, then chuckled a bit ta his other question. "Ah dunno, she prolly does, but ahm not shur Mahmy could properly convey that much. Ahm shur we can pick up sum books 'r somethin' somewhere, though, t'get more'v the basics," he remarked with a bit of a shrug. He wasn't sure how popular contests were here in Kalos, but he was sure they would be able to find some resources for it, at least. It seemed to be... well, not exceedingly popular, but fairly popular, and growing, from what he'd heard.
He frowned, though, when he asked about her moves. He'd actually been unsure about that, too, but he'd checked his pokedex after her... rain event outside. As it turned out, she had a rather... astounding set of moves, really. "Ah--" He started, but Crystal, who had stopped moving at the question, slowly turned, and (loudly) spoke up. "Squirt.... SQUIRTLE!?!" she demanded, stepping towards Sebastian, placing a hand on the chest of her shell, "Squirt squirt squirtle squirt squirtle!?! Squirtle! Squirt... Squirtle!" Jay frowned, taking a deep breath, ready to chide the pokemon though. His eyes widened, though, as he felt a strange energy gathering around her. It wasn't the cold of a blizzard; it was something growing from inside her, and indeed, a light was starting in her mouth as she puffed her chest up.
"Crys! No!" He was on top of her in a second, literally diving onto the squirtle, clamping a hand hard over her mouth, and pinning her to the ground. "Dun ya dare!" he snarled. She glared at him, but the light that had started shining between his fingers started fading. Instead she opened her mouth harder-- and bit down on two of his fingers. He jerked back and got to his feet hard, visibly refraining from kicking at her. "OW," he growled, but there wasn't a large amount of volume to his voice-- just a lot of heated force and anger. She got up, brushing herself off, but before she could say or do anything else, he had her back in her ball, shaking his hand and gritting his teeth against the pain.
"... So yeah, ah'd say, least in her mind, her moves'r up ta par. Pers'nally, I ain't sure what categories they're in, but..." Using his good hand, he fished out his pokedex, verbally calling up her information, and handing it to Sebastian so he could see her moveset. "She shure as hell put alotta work inta gettin' some sorta unexpected moveset lained up." He turned, letting Sebstian have the pokedex for now, while he stopped shaking his head and, grimacing, started trying to feel his fingers for damage.

"Makes sense." Sebastian considered a moment. "I bet there’s a magazine or something dedicated to contests to be honest. It seems like the kind of thing journalists would cover. Can ask when we get to the city." Plus there were magazines for just about anything and everything in the world.
Sebastian halted in his steps when Crystal turned on him and spoke at him, confusion written on his face at the little confrontation. What was wrong? What had he done? He was about to ask Jay if he knew what she was saying when he noticed the light starting to emit from her mouth. That was certainly not something he expected. When Jay lunged forward, Sebastian took a step back, rather uncertain of what in the world was going on. Taking a stun spore from a Butterfree was one thing, but trying to withstand whatever Crystal intended to fling out was quite another. Actually, having a pokemon ready attack in any of his general direction wasn't something he'd expected to have happen; and certainly not from one that belonged to another trainer.
So why he had opted to simply stand there and brace himself as opposed to moving out of the way was anyone’s guess. Blackjack had immediately recognized the potential danger though, latching onto the back of Sebastian’s pant leg ready to drag him down if he couldn’t be bothered to move. When Jay halted Crystal though, he let go, a sharp gaze and a growl rumbling forth in agitation. Dues had skittered back behind his trainer at the sight. Rummy… Rummy was nowhere to be seen at the moment.
After a moment or two Sebastian opened his eyes, squinting against the dark and letting them readjust at the sound of an ‘Ow’. Whatever was going to happen, hadn’t happened, which was all well and good. Without really thinking, Sebastian rubbed the back of his neck, the hairs finally seeming to lie back down. And then Jay just started back up talking, producing his pokedex to him. He stared blankly a moment, hesitantly taking the pokedex but not looking right away. He was too busy wondering just what in the world that was. He might’ve been out of practice but he certainly knew that wasn’t a common move for a Squirtle to know. After a moment he finally looked at the pokedex, frowning at the sight. Ya no, none of these were common. In fact they sounded suspiciously like moves a Blastoise should’ve known.
"Uh… uh hu… ya she… certainly must’ve." There really no were words to describe it other than that. He gave a serious frown, looking over at Jay with concern. "Hey, you okay? Did she nick you? " He asked as he noted the grimace, using Jay’s pokedex to illuminate the area a bit to get a better look. It wasn’t much, but it was something and the reflective surfaces helped a bit.

Jacque turned his head slightly as he heard Sebastian speak up and move over. "Yeah ahm fine," he replied, still a bit irritating, starting to walk, but offering his hand over to prove his point. It was what he was used to; being 'shown' a wound didn't really mean anything for him (he was the worst possible medic out there, considering he had to poke just to figure out what the damage was), but every time he'd gotten hurt, ever since he was a kid, it had always been 'let me see', and his arm would be stretched out for his mom, dad, or someone to inspect.
At any rate, the wound didn't seem too bad; there was a series of scrapes along one side of one of his fingers, from when he'd pulled his hand back, with one, slightly deeper than the rest beeding with a bit of blood, and both were turning red and looking to start swelling up, but he gave a flex of his fingers to help prove the fact, so they weren't broken. After a few beats, he drew his hand back and dropped it to his side, either unaware, or unconcerned, with what the cut whatever the damage might be.
"T'any rate, s'pose we should try'n get outta here. Certainly aint' gonna find none've them magazines near uh cave, 'n ah dunno 'bout you, but ah could use some food," he remarked, flicking his wrist again with a frown, "'N maybe uh sink..."

The frown persisted as Sebastian took a look, adjusting the pokedex a bit to better direct the light. This was really not the appropriate thing to be doing with someone else’s pokedex, but it wasn’t as though Jay could see what was going on. The glow from the device distorted the colors a bit, but Sebastian got an idea of the severity. He sucked air through his teeth, an eyebrow quirking a moment as Jay drew his hand back.
"… And a bandage and ice. You’re bleeding a bit you know." He remarked, tapping Jay in the side of his arm with his pokedex to indicate he was returning it. "You got something to cover it until we get out of here then? " Sebastian didn’t have a first aid kit on him, though some digging through his bag might produce something if Jay didn’t have a cloth.
"I could go for a bite, honestly." He glanced back at Blackjack, patting the Houndoom to calm him down before continuing on. "You know which way to go, or do you want me to look?" He questioned. Blackjack could probably do some sniffing and figure out a way, like back in the other caves they’d gone through. It’d worked for him anyways.

He adjusted his pack, tilting his head curiously and eyeing Jay again at the mention of leading. Sebastian had to squint against the dimness again, trying to figure if it was worth it or not. "Well you’re guess is as good as mine. I can’t make out one thing from another to be honest." Sebastian looked temporarily confused at the mention of how many pokemon he had. That was a sort of odd, out of the blue question. He frowned, turning his head to glance over his shoulder and count.
"One Houndoom…" He remarked, gesturing at Blackjack absently before turning and looking at Dues. "And one… Eevee…" Sebastian paused a moment, a frown immediately crossing his face. "One… crap." That peace and quiet was honestly too good to be true and he should’ve recognized it from the start. Now he was missing an Eevee. Great. He looked at Blackjack and Dues, who seemed just as confused.

Jay smirked at Sebastian's rather morbid joking warning. "Well ah s'pose that's still better'n walkin' off uh mountain, which's how mah dad always said ah'd prolly go," he remarked with great amusement, "Certainly's less embarressin'."
He shifted, giving a smirk and a dismissive wave at Sebastian's comment, blind gaze still cast straight ahead. "Ah'd take offense, if there were anythin' pers'nal in there," he'd chuckled a bit. At least he was universally anti-cannibalism, after all. It wasn't just Jay he was unwilling to eat. When Sebastian admitted he didn't really have a specific lead with where to go, Jay tuned in to listening. They still probably had a tad bit of ways to go, but he was pretty sure he could hear and feel some wind coming from one direction, and the air smelled slightly fresher -- maybe, he could be imagining it -- that way. He was about ready to bet his money there, when Sebastian seemed to catch on to his question, and notice not all was where it was supposed to be.

Sebastian had to give an odd look at Jay at that remark; and he thought his parents were weird. Joking about your blind son walking off a mountain to his demise? Well that was certainly a leap. He really wanted to comment on that fact as well, -and he’d thought being buried alive was a morbid joke- along with the offense to the lack of cannibalism, but he was primarily concerned now with where Rummy had gone. "That depends... when did he go quiet?" Was his remark. The consistent chirping had been his sign of Rummy's presence but beyond that point he wasn't really sure if the pokemon had been there or not.
This was… what… the third time he’d had a pokemon wonder out of his sights? If this was going to be a continuous thing, he’d either have to invest in a bunch of leashes or his pokemon would have to get use to never seeing the light of day again unless they were battling, and maybe not even then…
Once the Beedrill was out of sight, Rummy had gotten to his little paws and tried to follow after the group, lingering just long enough that he could barely see them up ahead. And then he caught sight of that treacherous reflection Eevee mocking him from beyond the other side. He just couldn’t let that stand! With a silence that truly unfitting of him, he snuck off chasing the renegade reflection.
Of course he was now in a Mexican standoff with many different reflections, caught up in a dead end and marveling uneasily at the sight. This reflection Eevee really knew how to call in the backup. He was not prepared for this. "I ain’ afraid of you and your army! Come at me you coward!" He started chirping, immediately taking a defensive stance, tail erect and head lowered to the ground. Without hesitation he bolted forward, ramming into the nearest reflection.
And rolling backwards in a daze in the process. Oh yes, this army would be quite the rival to beat.

Sebastian's answer did not instill the utmost confidence. Jay closed his eyes and reached up to rub his temple, quiet a moment as he thought back. "Bit before we started walkin', ah think," he answered, dropping his hand, and turning to listen back. "S'pose we oughta double back..." He frowned. They'd been walking for a while now; the pokemon could have seriously gotten lost since then. He probably should have noticed the loss of a set of footsteps, but if he wasn't paying close attention, they all just muddled into one clamoring pitter patter. And there were only so many sets of footsteps he could keep track of, anyway.
Zoey flew off his shoulder, fleeting up into darkness, and then coming down, squeaking a few times. "... S'pose we could also send the pokemon," Jay added, as Zoey swept back down to land on his shoulder, "They could prolly sniff 'em out 'r somethin' more easily.... Buddah dunno. Whad'do you think?" He lifted a hand up, shifting and moving to place a hand against it, then turning slightly and lowering himself to lean against it. He wasn't really tired, but while they figured it out, he would rather not keep trying to stand straight.

Sebastian frowned. Well that had certainly been a ways back if he really thought about it. He glanced back down the cave tunnels they walked, frown growing even more as he placed a hand on his hip and rubbed at the back of his head.
"It kind of looks like we might have too." He remarked at the mention of doubling back. He wasn’t sure if there were alternate tunnels now that he thought about it; the reflective surfaces of the cave actually made noticing such things difficult. Retracing was really the only way to see if the Eevee had wandered off to a place he shouldn’t have.
Sebastian gave an ‘hm’ of uncertainty at the suggestion of sending the pokemon, glancing at Blackjack in the process. It was certainly a plan; the Houndoom had found Dice without a problem and had been rather useful getting out of the few caves they’d wandered into. He felt a bit ashamed though at the thought; what if he lost more of his pokemon? On top of that, he didn’t want to go and cause Jay further trouble by making the man lose track of any of his.
The man took a deep breath, still staring rather intently into the dark. "Maybe." That was really the only response he could give as he thought. After a moment or so longer though, he gave a heavy sigh, looking back at Jay. "Sorry, this is my fault. I should’ve returned him to his pokeball." His tone was a mix of agitation and shame. It was one thing to lose a pokemon on your own; losing one and inconveniencing someone else? That was rather rude. He glanced over his shoulder.
"I can double back with Blackjack and check… make sure there aren’t any off caves or the like he might’ve wandered into." If there were, he hoped there weren’t a lot of them or that at least they were all dead ends. "If you want to stay here, take a breather… he might come back up this way on his own." Unlikely, but a chance. Sebastian just felt bad, not wanting to get Jay too involved in helping if he didn’t want too. He certainly wouldn’t have blamed the man.
Rummy in the mean time, was still very much going at it with his reflective rival. Every time he'd thought he'd taken down an Eevee enemy, it popped right back up, the same as he did! These guys were amazing resilient, though obviously not tactical geniuses, seeing as how they continued only to attack when he did, as opposed to just swarming him. Rummy was certain he had some kind of strategic edge on them, employing all the quality moves he'd learn from his keen movie observations.
There would be no beating him, no. Not today.
