Sable raised an eyebrow at Ezra's reaction to her choice of words, as well as to the glare she got from the Togetic. Was it something she said? Something about him? Either way, the male seemed to snap out of whatever discomfort he had when his Charmander alerted him to a Weedle. At the very least, he had come out of it enough to direct the fire lizard and patch him up afterwards. As the teen was battling, Sable gave a sheepish chuckle as she faced Avonlea."I know, I'm just..."she started, then trailed off as she reconsidered her answer. She didn't think claiming she wasn't used to people worrying about her would sit well with any of the people around her. It seemed that she was saved from giving much of an explanation, though, as the white-haired woman turned her attention back to Jin.
Jin wasn't exactly pleased at the albino trainer's reply, although he didn't look angry about it either. If anything, he looked disappointed and worried."It'd also be irresponsible to risk these guys escaping with their captive. We lose them now, we might not get a second chance to find either them or the mother,"he quietly urged, although something about his voice seemed off. Troubled."I get not wanting to put the baby back into danger, but-"
The disguised Zorua's word were cut off as he had to step aside and avoid having another Weedle land on his head. This little bug did not look even half as friendly as the one Sable had captured and was waving its stingers around at the people nearby. Sable sighed lightly, then let out her Purrloin."Might as well knock this guy away. Start off with Scratch,"the teen flatly stated, then watched as the dark type feline pawed at the wild Weedle.
The poisonous bug let out a whine before shooting several strands of sticky silk at the Purrloin, making a rather large mess in the feline's fur."Hurry and use Assist,"the teen commanded in response, and a white ball of light appeared on her Purrloin's paw before several seeds shot out and latched onto the Weedle. Well, Leech Seed wasn't that bad of a move. Unfortunately, it meant that the Purrloin was open to getting hit with the bug's stinger, and this time around it looked like it was successful in poisoning her Purrloin. At least some energy was drained by the seeds that had their vines wrapping around the Weedle's body.
Scoundrel didn't wait for his trainer's command before batting at the Weedle with a Scratch attack again, although he got a lot more thread stuck in his fur for his trouble. After the bug was successfully driven off, the feline meowed a few times to get his trainer's assistance due to having a hard time moving now. The teen felt bad, but it did look rather amusing to see the feline stuck like he was. Still, she went over and carefully plucked the sticky strands out of the dark type's fur and healed up the injury he had received. She didn't have anything for poison, though, which was likely going to be a bit of a problem.
After getting the worst of the sticky strands off her Pokemon, Sable recalled the Purrloin and stood back up."If we're going to argue about this, might we at least do it somewhere else? We've been seeing a lot of Weedle and Kakuna out here, and even a couple of Beedrill. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't want to end up running from a swarm of the things,"she requested bluntly before starting to head down the path.

As she made her way down the path, Sable recalled her Eevee. The teen figured the little Pokemon had done enough stuff for the moment and deserved a bit of a rest. She left her Snivy out of his ball, though, since he was just sitting across her shoulders. He was fine where he was. Jin was fine outside of his ball, too, and it wasn't like she had much of a choice on whether the male was tucked inside it or not. After all, he was the one hanging onto his Pokeball for the moment, not her. She wasn't gonna fight with him on that sort of thing, and figured he could hang onto his ball if he wanted to.
The red-haired teen continued down the path, not noticing that no one was following along, until a rustling in the grass caught her attention. Sable shifted her stance a bit as she looked for the source of the noise, but relaxed when all that popped out of the grass was a little Pikachu. As much as the girl might have been a sucker for cute Pokemon, she was not impressed by the electric rodent, and neither was her Snivy."Sni!"The Snivy huffed as he jumped down from his trainer's shoulders to square off with the rodent, earning a chuckle from his trainer."Alright, I guess it's only fair. Most of the others have been getting some good practice,"the teen commented as she watched her Pokemon size up his opponent.
After a moment, the teen nodded and motioned towards the Pikachu with her right hand."Let's start this fight off with Tackle,"she commanded, her voice sounding almost bored. The Snivy let out a small cry of agreement, then charged at the electric mouse and slammed into it with his shoulder. The yellow Pokemon let out a yelp as it got knocked back, then swiped its tail at the offending grass starter a few times to try and catch it off guard. Not that it would do the little guy any good, as it didn't have any moves to take advantage of the opening it created.
Seeing the ineffective move the Pikachu used, Sable sighed lightly and waved hand a bit as if to shoo the battle onward."Finish up with Vine Whip,"she said calmly and watched as a pair of vines shot out from the Snivy's body to strike at the electric rodent. The vines did their job in knocking away the Pikachu, but it appeared that the electric Pokemon's ability left a parting gift for the Snivy. Some of the electricity in the Pikachu's body traveled along the vines and lightly zapped the grass starter, not doing any real damage but making the oddly-colored Snivy's movements more sluggish. "Ah well, at least we still won,"she said as she picked up the Pokemon so that he could ride on her shoulders again.

Avonlea turned her attention to the little one resting in her makeshift carrier, cooing over her. She was adorable. Baby Kangaskhan were so small and chubby, it was too cute to resist. But, she followed Sable and Ezra when they moved on, keeping her eye and ears open for anything suspicious. Would the poachers even be in the forest still?

Jin let out a light sigh and followed after his trainer when he didn't get much of a reply to his words. At the very least, the redhead had a point about not wanting to get swarmed by Beedrill. Besides, he wouldn't be that good of a teammate if he left his trainer alone, now would he? As he walked, though, he lagged behind a bit to see how far he could stray before any of the three humans caught on to him and if it was far enough to bolt away if he chose to. Well, maybe not bolt, but he was definitely making sure of whether he could sneak out of the group's sight or not if he felt like it. Even with that, though, he still stuck around for the time being and would mostly do so until the group decided to leave the forest. Once they made their way towards the exit... Well, he'd see how badly he was bothered by that point.
Sable gave a bit of a sheepish chuckle when she heard Ezra ask his Charmander about adding a Pikachu to the team."Eh, I guess they're pretty good. I'd prefer other electric types if I wanted to add one to my team, though,"she said as she rubbed the back of her head with her left hand. She knew that quite a few trainers swore by the yellow mice, but she'd rather have something that looked either a bit more fierce or a lot more cute. Something like a Jolteon or an Electrike, or maybe a Joltik if she could find one. Not that she expected to see one of those out in Kanto, but she'd still like it more than Pikachu.
Thinking for a moment and giving Ezra a chance to try looking for a Pikachu if he wanted to, Sable paused before looking at the group that had caught up to her."Which way did we want to go to get things taken care of for the little guy?"she asked, lightly motioning towards the baby Kangaskhan that Avonlea was still cooing over. Jin, standing a bit to the outskirts of the group, tilted his head ever so slightly before chiming in."We could head to the station in either Pewter or Viridian. We'd mostly just have to turn around and walk back if we wanted to head towards Viridian City, but it's a bit of a ways to get through the route in between this forest and the city. If we head up to Pewter, though, then we'd just have to get through the rest of this forest and we'll be within spitting distance of the place. Er, metaphorically speaking,"the disguised Zorua commented, hastily tacking on that last bit in case any of the people around him took his words literally.

Avonlea looked up at Jin as he said something about going to the Pewter station. That was opposite of what he said a little while ago, wasn't it?"You're right. Going back to Viridian would take time, and the more time we spend getting help, the more time they have to get away. Or, worse."Baby Kangaskhan - who Avonlea was now dubbing Alisha - stirred at Avonlea's words, or what it seemed like anyway, and sobbed a bit. She became flustered as she calmly assured the infant. She wouldn't calm down entirely, though. Something else was bothering her."What's wrong?""I can hear the bad men."Avonlea's head snapped up at the sound of men's voices and she ducked down, taking Ezra and Sable with her. She assumed Jin would do the same."Damn. I can't believe they both got away. Boss isn't going to be happy." "It's your fault. You shouldn't have let the little one run off. Now they could be who-knows-where and it'll take forever to find them."That was definitely the poachers, but it sounded like Alisha's mother got away. Which meant there was an angry, worried, and scared Kangaskhan roaming about. What was more dangerous: being seen by poachers or being found by Kangaskhan? Avonlea gripped the hilt of her sword, wanting to attack and question the men, but didn't. That would scare Alisha, and put her in danger."Looks like Kangaskhan got away. Sable nodded a bit as Ezra talked about maybe catching a Pikachu, though her eyebrows knitted together slightly when she caught him hesitate. Before she could try to pry - perhaps for the better - the female teen was stuck giggling and crouching down as a tiny Caterpie tried to climb up her travel companion's pants."Aw, who's a brave little bug?"she asked the little Caterpie before Felix came over and battled it. Specifically, by shooting a few flames at it. The teen was surprised the Charmander didn't end up setting the hem of his trainer's pants on fire with that stunt.
With a bit of a pout on her face as she did so, the red-haired teen stood up once the little Caterpie was driven off. She certainly wouldn't mind finding one of those for herself and catching it. Once again, the teen's thoughts were soon broken, although this time it was by the baby Kangaskhan's crying."Did something bump her?"the teen asked quietly as she looked over at Avonlea, thinking a pinecone or something might have dropped and landed on the baby. She soon got a different answer, though, as she heard the sound of a pair of older males talking somewhat nearby. The teen certainly didn't need Avonlea's tugging to duck behind a tree and some brush before lowering to one knee, carefully shrugging the bag off her shoulder so it would sit next to her, and ducking her head to try and get out of sight as much as possible.
Of course, Jin had slightly more warning than the rest of the group, between his hearing and being able to understand what the baby Kangaskhan was saying. And, like a smart little Zorua, Jin had used that brief amount of extra time to shift his illusion - now almost matching Scoundrel's form save for his eyes, which were still a bright blue for some reason - and ducking under a bush to try and get a look at who was around without giving himself away too much. The false Purrloin kept his ears flattened against his skull and his body low as he tried to quietly crawl to a position that let him see a bit more than the shoes of the pair of poachers. At least the disguised Zorua was used to having a tail, and was able to confine the movement of his new one to small twitches up and quiet landings. As long as he was quiet, they hopefully would not look down at him, and as long as the poachers did not look down, he could easily escape notice.
For what felt like an agonizing amount of time, both Sable and Jin - and even the oddly-colored Snivy that had climbed down from his trainer's shoulders for the time being - remained silent as the two threats questioned one another. The only movement either of them performed aside from getting into position was a cringe from Sable as she heard Avonlea's whisper and Mikhail's quickly-muffled cry. Well, perhaps not the only, as the woman's whisper made the red-haired teen slowly move her right arm and hand so that her fingertips lightly brushed the Cherish Ball containing her Roselia. If the group was spotted, she would not give these thugs any more of a chance to attack than she absolutely had to. Not that she'd resort to actually attacking them if she could avoid it, but... Well, covering them with some spores to paralyze them wasn't harming them, now was it?
For a while longer after adjusting the placement of her hand, Sable continued to wait as the poachers wandered away. It was only when the fuzzy behind of her disguised Zorua started inching its way backwards from under the bush that the redhead released the breath that she hadn't realized she had been holding. It had only been a shallow breath, and one that had been silently released and replaced during the course of the wait, but it had still caught the teen off guard to realize she had been holding it at all. It almost seemed funny to the teen, to be so used to having to hide from the truly dangerous individuals, but still feel some fear each time. She had suspected that she'd have either gotten used to the sensation of danger all around or turned into a hyper-paranoid, nervous wreck, but no. The teen lightly shook her head to shoo away the thoughts, but did not stand up yet.

Listening to the men, he quickly put together who they were, and was relieved Kangaskhan got away and was now out of their sight. For how long, though? They weren't native to the forest, so it wouldn't be too long for them to find her. Mikhail suddenly went to say something in a louder voice than wanted, and Ezra tensed when the poachers stopped to wonder what it was. Thankfully, they decided to move on. And, it was a good thing Avonlea shut Mikhail up as fast as she did. Whispering was fine to do, since they weren't that close to the poachers, but Mikhail would have given them away."You have to be careful, Mikhail....They could have found us.""Ezra would have protected us."Felix looked up at Trinity. She had a lot of faith in their trainer, yet he felt...insulted at what she said. He didn't want Ezra to protect him. Felix felt he should be the one protecting the human instead. Once the two men were long gone, Ezra stood halfway to look around."Looks clear. Should we hurry to Pewter?"

Mikhail looked at Felix and Trinity, feeling like he had really messed up. Avonlea didn't seem too upset about it, though. She had looked more worried than angry. The Charmander looked up at his trainer when she stood after Ezra checked to make sure it was safe. She was still holding her sword as if expecting danger still."I do have to get Decadus treated, and make sure little Alisha is alright....I don't mind going on ahead, though, if you two still want to train."Well, they could technically still train in Pewter. The Pokemon there weren't much stronger than the ones here.

Sable considered Ezra's question as she shouldered her bag once more, then nodded at Avonlea's suggestion."As long as we keep away from those thugs, we should be alright as far as training goes. The false feline had a displeased look and ears tilted somewhat to the side and back as he looked up at his trainer. Just what was she implying? Or had she caught on to his plans to sneak off? Either way, it didn't seem like Jin was going to get an answer at the moment, mostly because a rather miffed Butterfree fluttered its way towards the group to look over the trainers and Pokemon."Hey, come on. This isn't the best time to be looking for a battle,"he meowed up at the flying bug, only to have a wave of psychic energy shot at him as well as a recommendation to buzz off. Not that the attack did any good, since he was... Well, a dark type. Still, it messed up his fur a bit, so that wouldn't do. Plus, the bug was making a bit of noise, so one way or another it had to go.
Frowning, Jin padded over and jumped at the butterfly Pokemon a few times to swipe at it. It took a few tries and the bug shot some more waves of psychic energy at him, but after a bit the Butterfree decided to go find some other trainers to harrass. Jin grumbled a bit as the bug flew off, then padded back over to his trainer. After giving her leg a nuzzle, the disguised Zorua padded off down the path a ways further, although he let himself keep in the red-haired trainer's sight for the moment. He wasn't too thrilled about ditching her, at least not yet, but he had figured out by now that the teen wasn't treating this situation the same as she had treated the one with the punk back in Unova. Why that was, he hadn't figured out, but he at least recognized that she wasn't diving in with a small bit of preparation like she had the last time.

Avonlea laughed a bit. She knew her evaluation was probably wrong, but Jin's reaction to Sable's words made it sound like he couldn't take what he served. Still, he was probably just upset."Well, I don't mind taking your Weedle to be treated if I go on ahead. Not as a trade or anything. It seemed that Sable had spoken a bit too soon, as a couple of tough Pokemon appeared almost as soon as she closed her mouth again. A Pidgeotto that ended up driven off by Felix, and a Weedle that managed to be poisoned by Mikhail before scurrying away. It didn't help that she heard a rather frantic beeping from one of her pockets, apparently coming from that annoyingly pink Pokedex she had gotten from Professor Juniper. Man, she was really going to have to get a case for it at some point. She couldn't stand the idea of having something pink that wasn't a Pokemon, and even then there weren't many pink Pokemon Sable could think of that she actually liked.
It took a bit of poking around, but Sable finally found a way to get the device to stop beeping so much. Apparently it was some sort of warning or other about an update being finished, and the new info made getting out of the forest seem more important at the moment. From the looks of things, there was some sort of update to correct an error about the status of her Pokemon, one that made them seem tougher than they should have been."Really? Now it updates?"the teen mumbled as she slid shut the device and placed it back in her pocket, then shook her head as Avonlea made her request."I might as well head up there with you. My Snivy and Purrloin also need some treatment, plus I have a couple of things to check anyway."
A couple of coughs punctuated the end of Sable's sentence, causing a frown to cross the teen's face."I should probably look at checking the market for some cough syrup, too. I'd say cough drops, but one bad fit might end with me choking on one,"she added after clearing her throat a bit, then gave a sheepish smile before heading off down the path. She noticed that Jin, who had switch his illusion again to go back to looking like a black-haired teenager, was leaning up against a tree while waiting for the group, glancing around some while he waited.
Jin grinned a bit as he saw his trainer come over."Ah, found something you might be interested in, sis,"he said as he held a small, heart-shaped scale out to the teen."Found it sticking in one of those bushes and figured you could use it. Well, one of your teammates, more like, but you're the one who's gonna decide who gets it."The disguised Zorua chuckled a bit as Sable took the scale, then looked over at the other two trainers before facing his trainer once again."Sounds like we're gonna be heading to the next town after all..."he commented, sounding more than a little displeased about that but not arguing as he followed his trainer down the path out of the forest.

And after all that editing from the update, and after considering it a while longer, I think I'm just gonna head up to Pewter after all and pick that mushroom up some other time, preferably when I've got a few more supplies to make dallying in this sort of area a bit easier. One, the gym leaders should all have taken a similar nerf, so Brock hopefully won't be too hard. Two, I'll need to take him on soon anyway, as will Avlonlea. Our V-Day Pokemon are getting a bit too close to level 20. I'll let you two make the exit posts first, though, if you'd like.}}
