Totchli hesitated, trying to duck a bit further into the reefs. He forgot for a moment that Squishy blocked his path. "And when he tells you that you're wrong? That I'm not welcomed?" he demanded. When, not if. He had to remind himself of that. Despite her pretty words and reassurances, he wouldn't be welcomed. Not for long. And this mare... strange as she was... would forget him when he was out of her sight. The thought both pained him, for some reason, and gave him an idea. Tossing his head in a gesture that looked far more confident than he meant it to, he said, "Bring him here. If this captain of yours wants me, he can come tell me himself! Until then, I'm staying put."

"Alright," Natasha said brightly and flipped in the water. "I'll go fetch Papa and bring him right back!" She gasped and swam back to him quickly, "You must promise not to leave now. Don't you dare try to send me off so you can slip away. I will find you if you abandon me like that." She added that last part firmly.

His eyes widened at the term that haunted his own dreams. Abandon her? He shook his head quickly. "I won't," he promised. "I'll remain here until you return. I swear it."
Except she wouldn't return, would she? She'd forget all about him... yes, that was right. She would forget him. He couldn't abandon her if she abandon him first. Still, he refused to cause anyone else the sort of pain that had been inflicted upon him. He would stay, and he would wait for her, like she had promised. Even though he knew she wouldn't return.

"Alright!" she chirped happily. "Squishy, you stay here and keep him company! I will be back as soon as I can!" And she took off through the water just as fast as she could to fetch her father. He never told her no for anything and certainly wouldn't start now.

Totchli watched her go, his mouth hanging open as he tried to figure out what had just happened.
Per her orders, Squishy attached herself to Totchli, perching on his head like a demented hat.

"Now 'Tash...." Mal started slowly as he was being half dragged along the sand to go see this perspective new member of the crew. "Why exactly are you so dog gone eager to add this fellow to our crew?"
"Papa, he is a master of camouflage and will be a great help to well....Anything that we take on," Natasha said holding firm to her papa's hoof to ensure he didn't wander off. "Besides, he's out here all alone and he just needs someone to look after him and Squishy likes him so you know he must be on the level. Even better than that honestly because Squishy doesn't take to just anyone...."

In the time it had taken Tash to drag her father through the ocean, Totchli had sunk low into the reefs. He couldn't dislodge the insane little jellyfish, which insisted on squeaking at him in an oddly superior tone. But he did manage to use the strange little creature to blend into the reefs.

Natasha beamed as she arrived back on the scene dragging her dear daddy along by his hoof. "Here he is, Papa," she chirped happily. "This is Totchli, he is a master of disguise! He can slip right into this reef here and completely disappear!"
Mal took a moment to size up the boy. The first thing that hit him was how skittish he seemed, not good for jobs that required a steady hoof and level head. He was starting to suspect that his daughter might have had an ulterior motive for this little shindig.

Totchli poked his head up a bit, staring at the mare. He barely noticed her father, too struck by the miracle that had just happened. "You.... you came back," he breathed, staring at her in awe. No one had every come back before. He drifted up a bit, completely forgetting about the jellyfish still clinging to his head.

"Of course I didn't," Natasha said with a giggle. "I said I would, didn't I?" She cast her eyes upwards and clucked, "Squishy, come now, you are nearly chocking the poor fellow."

Squishy squeaked at her before reluctantly letting go of him so she could drift over their heads.
"No one ever comes back," Totchli said, softly. He blinked, finally seeming to notice Mal. "Who are you?"

"Oh right!" Natasha flipped in the water and gestured to her father. "This is Malachite Kaari, leader of our littler crew, and my dearest father!"
Mal snorted, "Dearest father? You have another one I don't know about?" He allowed a half smiled and continued to eye the stallion trying to peg him.

Totchli sunk a bit into his reefs, eyeing Mal suspiciously, though he kept shooting little glances at the mare, as if to reassure himself that she hadn't suddenly vanished. "Your.... father?" he asked. "You actually brought him?" This was what a father looked like?

"Well I said I would, didn't I?" she asked still grinning before turning back to her father. "So, he's in right?"
Mal admittedly didn't see much to be impressed with here, but then again 'Tash had never before brought someone to join the crew. And he had a feeling there was something unique going on here. Besides, he couldn't say no to his little girl. But she didn't need to know what a push over he was. He raised himself up and in a stern voice stated, "Well, I suppose he can join on a trial basis...."

Totchli narrowed his eyes at the other male, deciding he was less than impressed with this "father" fellow. Trial basis? The white mer was no idiot. He knew what that meant. Malachite would tolerate Totchli for a time. Until he got bored with him or Totchli outlived his usefulness. Then Totchli would be out on his own. Again. Nope. He wasn't going to do it.
"No," he said, firmly and maybe a bit harshly. He glanced again at Natasha and the scowl he wore softened just a bit. She had said she would come back. And she did. She had said she'd bribg her father. And she did. He amended his decsion and hoped he wasn't making a mistake. "I won't join your crew. Not on a trail basis or any other basis... But I'll go with her."
