Location: Misty Inn to Siren’s Field
Activity: Hunt 213/300
Interacting With: Shenra, Red, Esme

Through the fog, Rain spotted a flash of bright colors. And then there was a sea of loud, obnoxious squawking. The dovaa wanted to cover his ears, but now wasn’t the time. They were being attacked! The creature was something that resembled a cross between a bird and a cat; nothing like Rain had ever seen before. They were reasonably large too, and had claws that could easily tear Rain and the others up. He had to think quickly.

Rain swung his glaive out in front of him, in an effort to keep the beasts back. He worked his way forward, enough so he was standing in front of Shenra. He wanted to protect her; she being the youngest and all. Rain was also reasonably sure the others had been in battle before and had more experience than himself.

This being his first battle outside of training, he didn’t want to mess up or burden the others, so he was going to do his best. He cut down the vlideans that got too close, standing his ground. Hopefully the others could hold their own. At least Red seemed enthusiastic about the fight. Rain wondered how she could be so confident, and then reminded himself that she had probably had many battles before this.

Roseryn Vayne
Class: Unchosen Dovaa Apprentice
Location: Everwinter Plateau – Siren's Field
Activity: Reigning in siblings and talking to Laesara
Interacting with: Laesara and Malikai

By the time Quince had risen to his feet, Rose's cheeks were inflamed with enough humiliation for the both of them. Thankfully, there weren't a great deal of others around to witness the obnoxious display. Nonetheless, as Quince dusted his clothes, Rose grumbled, "Would you try to control yourself?"

His sibling wasn't as phased as Rose would've liked. After straightening his coat and furs, Quince moved back to take up a seat across the fire from Lae. "Oh, lighten up." He shrugged, accepting a mug from an attendant with a grateful nod of thanks. he inhaled a purely delightful plume of steam and sighed in contentment as he sipped. With a sidelong glance to his older brother, he added. "There's enough cold about without you adding yours."

Roseryn simmered in silence while he took up a perch nearer to Laesara, settling along the bench with a glare in Quince's direction. From her station attached to his back, Iris gave the top of her brother's hood a quick pat before sliding to the ground and worming her way onto the bench between Lae and Rose. With her small stature, she had to climb up onto it, hefting her scrawny frame up and settling on her knees. She turned to the Orderite girl with a grin. "Father went to catch the beast first. He's impatient sometimes, and I bet he'll be gone for a while."

When an Orderite woman handed her a mug, she soothed her palms over the smooth ceramic, feeling the heat seep past her leather gloves and into her skin. "He wanted to take all the hastars, so we had to walk. It was a long way... And really cold... But he gets mad when we complain about stuff like that." She shrugged and took a sip of the drink, heaving out a contented breath before her gaze landed on the unfamiliar boy standing off to Lae's other side. She craned her head around the Orderite girl to stare at him through wide, lavender eyes. "Aren't you cold? What are you doing there?"

Laesara Wymrith
Class: Orderite Apprentice
Location: Everwinter Plateau – Siren's Field
Activity: HUNT 441/1500 words
Interacting with: Roserynn, Malikai

Laesara followed the girl's gaze to Malik and gave him a reassuring nod. “Ah, yes. This is my squire, Malikai.” she said, introducing him to the Dovaa, “These are our guests...” she introduced them in turn, gesturing to each as she said their names. He probably will forget their names... she thought, But he will at least try. She was prepared to gently remind him and assist him if necessary.

She was pleased the boy had come after all – she knew his mother did not approve of the trip, and she had not forced him to come. And he almost did not. she remembered... but in the end, he had.

Having him around was wonderful, beyond just the convenience of having a squire. He is much like a pet hastar... she mused, Loyal and kindly and... she hesitated on the word, Simple.

Roserynn and his family, for all their beauty, were as trecherous as any other noble, that much she was certain of. Malikai, on the other hand, is as guile-less as a bouken.

“Did I hear that Daermo has started the hunt already?”

Her father's voice seemed to boom from his tent, though his was not a loud voice. It was merely powerful, containing a small measure of his deep energy and strength. Baelen looked out of the tent, regarding the children with his intense gaze.

Laesara inclined her head at her father in greeting. “Yes, father, you heard correctly.”

“Hmm.” her father's eyes narrowed. He's already ready, Laesara noted, To be expected of course, of Baelen Wymrith... always ready for a hunt. “Then we must not let him beat us to the prize.” he said, his expression hard and excited. He and the dovaa's father were allies and hunting rivals, and the rivalry was both warm and long-standing. “Are the hastar ready?”

“They will be readied.” reassured Laesara, holding up her hands placatingly, nodding at a servant to take the cue and start the preparations, “But first, let us let our guests rest. They have had an arduous climb to reach us.”

“Very well.” said Baelen. That the hunt is soon must ease his restlessness thought Laesara, as he surveyed them again, “I will join you all until we depart.”

The imposing orderite male sat himself by the fire with the lordly air that was his birthright, and nobody would notice the slight stiffness of his high-end prosthetic leg as he moved. It resembled a flesh and blood leg in every way except for the intricate ivory carvings along its length.

Laesara's bodyguard shifted slightly, but otherwise appeared unphased. Malesmesch wasn't phased by much.

The Pup went from hunkering down to tackling Nehelini into the brush. The Dovaa would of yelled but shut his mouth when he saw that the Adult and Pup were trotting on by. Nehelini remained silent while looking at Keke...what would they do now?

8yrs old-ish Orderite engineer/tinker
Location: The spire Red led us to.
Activity: Trying to survive! Hunt 189/500
Interacting With: Rain, Esme, Red

The spire was... big! Shenra stood opened mouthed at the shear height of the spire and second guessed the adventure of climbing it. It seemed so huge to such a small orderite.

Suddenly, as she was about to announce that she would wait at the base, she heard a loud noise of squawking and screeching. Shenra ducked and covered her ears trying to make the noise go away. She peeked up and saw Vlideans swooping down. She also saw Red having a rather good time of it.

Then she saw a form block her view of the Vlideans. It was Rain blocking her. She knew what Vlideans could do, she'd seen some nasty wounds from those that had tried to catch the ones that roosted in the Ashen City, so that made her appreciate what Rain was doing.

"Watch out for their claws and beaks!" she tried to shout above the din to Rain, "They can cut off your fingers if you aren't careful!"

If any of her companions needed healing, she knew a basic spell for healing her Ma taught her, and would happily help any of them.

“If you want to!” said Keke, “I can pounce on the pup again and get them out of the way before their mama can see...” he blinked as the pup tackled Nehelini into the brush.

Awww, that's cute... thought Keke, If they behave like that, then they would be a great pet for Zarri! His sister needed more affection, he thought, and something to give her snuggles when he wasn't around would be perfect.

The soft sound of steps on snow alerted Keke and he ducked behind the brush, burrowing in the snow to hide his black scales. Maybe not so cute he thought, as the adult and the pup passed by, But it did help, and if its this loyal right after capture, then it's perfect for Zarri... though... he thought, as he watched the pup intently – his target – It might take some doing to get the pup to like her if it's loyal to me...

But there was time, there was always time, and Keke was young. He had a lot of it. He glanced at the brush where Nehelini lurked, waiting for him to make his move...

((Once we're done I'll start up a new hunt. Tasi can catch up and get the stuff, but we can count it towards a hunt...))

With a swipe of her icicle claws, she cut one of the flying beasts out of the air and stabbed it into the ground, grinning at it's shrieking. ”If it can't cut you up, it ain't fun!” she called out, giving the young Orderite a big, feral grin as she drew out her throwing axe and threw it.

Another Vildean down, another victory proclaimed. She dove beneath a flurry of feathers and rettrieved her axe, ”Tell me this ain't fun...” she said to Rain, her white eyes glittering as she barely dodged a fierce clawing from one of the beasts. Blood streamed from a new wound on her arm, the Vildean's claws not entirely blocked by her pelts, ”Tell me this ain't fun and I'm gonna haveta' punch ya to set your mind straight!”

Which she wouldn't mind at all.

”Hey, you've got the last of em!” she called to rain, ”That's yours!” she kept her claws out, however, in case he needed backing up...

        Malikai
        Location: Everwinter Plateau – Siren's Field.
        Class/Clan: Orderite male, unchosen class. Currently 'squire'.
        Activity: Anticipating a hunt and trying not to look like an idiot.
        Interacting With: Laesara and Roseryn

“S’not so bad,” Malikai said in response to the small girl, his cheeks warming at being noticed. The statement, though, came coupled with an inadvertent shiver as though to call his bluff, and he tucked closer into his cloak with a sheepish grin. As Laesara introduced the others in their company, he nodded, mouthing silently to mimic the names in his head in an effort to commit them to memory. By the time she got to the end, though — so many small dovaa children, and all with names he’d never heard of, save for one — he had forgotten all but two: Rose, and Iris.

There was more to the boy’s name, he was sure, but the part that sounded quite like he looked — like a blooming red flower, adorned with winter thorns — lodged itself firmly in Malik’s mind. Iris, he remembered because he made a point to, for better or for worse. She’d spoken to him, after all. He supposed the least he could do was attempt to remember her name.

When Lord Wymrith emerged from the tent, Malik half-hopped at the start of his voice, skin prickling inspite of himself for things which had nothing to do with the cold. The man intimidated him. Of course, a good number of things inspired intimidation in him, but comparatively speaking, Malikai was fairly certain that Laesara’s father ranked among the top rungs. Though he had never treated Malikai unfairly — quite the opposite — his simple presence had a way of making Malik feel like a small, round and fumbling but tolerable annoyance at best. He shifted his weight uncertainly, peering towards the massive orderite out of the corner of his eye and then flicking his gaze away a moment later.

A hunt would be a good way to warm up — provided he managed not to walk himself off a cliff — and a good distraction, besides. Even if he did only embarrass himself, it would be much needed practice. A part of Malik relaxed at the thought, excited — almost giddy. He had never been on a proper hunt before. Not with real weapon.

Perhaps, if the dovaa children were amicable, he might even make new friends.

Apparently I f-ed up again with the post. I thought I had fixed it. OTL

Honka, still bouncing around Cri stopped when she heard the newcomer speak. She moved toward Cri and sat near her. She was still wary of new khehora's, but since Cri was there, it seemed ok!

"Hi!" Honoka said her tail wiggling a bit, "Yeah! I really like it! Snow is so soft and fluffy!" Her tail wiggled more and sent snow flying a bit, "I want to play, but Cri said that I have to do my hunting lesson's first."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Criani sniffed the scent of the new comer and took her in. She seemed to be wearing something... But her smell seemed like that of a forgone memory, one her mother possessed... The smell of rich earth, plants and flowers, clung to this one much like it did her mother.
"Hello." Criani said agreeably, she moved her wing in front of her face to shield herself from the flying snow, "We just got here, and are looking for some shelter, but yes, I'm here to give the little one lessons." She bowed her head in greeting, "I am Criani and this is Honoka." She tilted her head and said, "Do you happen to know where we could find some shelter?"
Hunting lessons... Malta remembered those. She wished she could tell the young khehora that play was important and something she should do first – or all the time – but, though she had hated her training, she also had known it was good for her: like bitter medicine, she was better for it.
”It can be.” she said. Snow, too, was double edged. It was certainly squishy and bizzarely fun to bounce around in, but it was also cold and wet and it caked all over her coat. That wasn't so fun. ”No,” she answered the blue khehora, the young khehora's apparent trainer, ”I sort of just got here myself!” she chuckled nervously. There was Detraeus's camp, but she didn't think he'd appreciate her just lurking there with two other khehora.
”I'm Malta, of Katangi. I'm a Ysali-clan Alchemist.” she introduced herself, ”Maybe we should shelter together? Maybe the forest?” Yes, a good alternative. She hoped they would take her up on the offer. She didn't know what she was expecting, but it hadn't been loneliness, that was for certain.
”Have you heard about the large beasts that are in these woods?”
"B-big animals?" Honoka said, her tail stopping in it's tracks.
She wasn't overly fond of larger animals, she was happy taking down the small sized ones that Criani made her hunt. She tried to be brave and not move towards her teacher, but her eyes darted to Criani instead, just for a moment trying to see if her teacher would make her hunt one of those.
"H-how big?" Honoka said.
Hopefully it wasn't as big as a dragon...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Criani had not heard of the khehora's clan, but then she didn't know much outside of Serenia . She also wished for a clan as well, but she loved the hodgepodge "clan" she was in with Avani and Honoka at the moment.

"No, I haven't heard of any large beasts here. We just came for some extreme weather training, and I thought this was better than Aisko at this time of year." Criani said smiling a bit. She then got serious, "But if there are large animal's about," Criani said hearing the faint wobble in her young student's voice as she quickly glanced at Honoka. The poor thing wasn't ready for animals too larger than her, "Perhaps camping together is a good idea."

Though where two adults and a youngling can sleep was another question.

"Do you have any ideas? We normally sleep under evergreen trees, but that would be impossible with two adults."

Rain heard the others call out to him. “Fun? Was this….fun?” He couldn’t help but give a wild grin in return to Red. His heart was racing and it was indeed kind of exhilarating. But Shenra was right, if he wasn’t careful he could easily lose his fingers to the bird creature. “Haah!” he called out as he struck down at the last of his enemies. There was a loud squawk and the vlidean lay still. Upon victory of his first real battle his eyes lit up with a triumphant gleam. He did it, they had won! He turned around and smiled at the others. “We did it!~” He resisted the urge to dance around like an idiot, but it was obvious he was happy.

Nehelini inhaled deeply, looking at the Pup next to him he smiled. Then nodded at Keke. The Dovaa darted out and went wide eyed when the Adult whipped around to stare at him. Nehelini locked eyes with the Adult before his instinct kicked in and he took off. The Adult didn't let out a sound but took off after him. Nehelini's Pup darted out as well, kicking off a dead tree the pup let out a small yelp as the tree gave out under him and blocked the path. It kept going as Nehelini wouldn't be able to outrun a full grown adult.

Nehelini felt his lungs burn with the effort he had to put in just to keep himself a hair's breathe out of the Adult's claw. He panted tiring out then let out a yell as he felt something knock into him. Rolling down a small hill to come to a stop buried under snow he panted. He felt something heavy on him and a small twist of his head showed him it was his Pup. He kept quiet, the Pup's colors were blending them both in with the snow...the Adult looked them over.

Nehelini prayed that Keke grabbed the pup and hid. Very, very well.

Red was slightly disappointed when the last beast fell to Rain's attack. ”Thats the spirit!” she crowed, holding out a hand for a very strong and warriorly gesture. Probably a handshake, or an arm bump or some such thing. She picked up a few trophy feathers and studied their claws. ”Hey.” she said to Shenra, ”You want these?”

”Oh! That's why there are so many Magescians here. Didn't you know?” Malta stared at them, glowing eyes wide with shock, ”A large bird-like beast and a heavily-furred canine beast have been spotted - for the first time - around these parts.” Malta shook her head, ”I don't know what they're called, but I saw a hunter...” she gave an involuntary shudder, ”With a pelt three times as big as he...”

Malta nodded. ”I'll camp with you. I thought I... no matter, do you mind?” she asked, ”There are caves around here, and if we camp in the ruins they aren't likely to come so close – the twolegs. Animals don't want to come close to them.

For good reason, as she had nearly found out.
