She hoped the mermaids purse wouldn't bring her such bad luck. Doria silently continued her search, and opted to clear some of the smaller bones. Perhaps she would loosen up a rib soon, they seemed to be hard work though.

As the other female dragged another rib up to the den she looked to the pair that were talking, opting not to interrupt their conversation. She had managed to make some small talk, but not much more. Doria didn't want to force her way into a conversation and was happy to help the pride to collect the bones. There were about half of them left now, so it was nice to see progress in their work.

She took a minute to gaze at the sea again, it really was a marvel, all glistening and rolling over itself. Her paw happened upon another delicate shell, pale and broken in places. The dark lioness moved it aside gently.

Thuraya kept scavenging and quickly found another small bone that she tucked away into her pouch. She was getting pretty lucky with the shells and small bones. If nothing else at the end of this she would be able to mkae herself some jewellery and possible a few tools.

She eyed the rib bones and the skull, she knew that the skul would be going no where but there were still a number of rib bones that needed to be taken care of. The blue lioness was pretty sure that she still had it in her to drag another few up to the dens.

Looking at Thuraya, Doria gave her a grin. She seemed a nice lioness, and her appearance was quite striking. The lioness looked almost as if she had strolled out of the sea herself, a lovely blue colour.

"You're having quite a lot of luck with this task." She smiled. "I haven't quite managed to dislodge a rib yet!"

Doria had blue on her too, but a much brighter colour, in small places, similar to her sister. She didn't much look like she'd come out of the ocean, she was far too dark.

Working her paws against some of the smaller bones, she managed to break another one free, and put it into the pile near to her. "Well, I suppose every bone helps."

[Oh my god Kicheko stop playing with the the dang skull]

Returning from the sea, Kicheko headed back to the skull. "I can't believe its brains aren't even in here anymore," she said, going through the skull the back way where the spine had once connected but had since fallen out. "Man, I bet it was the size of my whole chest!" That would have been fun to poke. Did whales have brains? Probably. Everything that was living had a brain...except plants. Well. As far as she knew, anyway.

Thuraya moved in to collect another rib bone. She may be an ageing lioness but she was still pretty strong. Plus if her son was watching her the same way she was watching him she wanted to be sure to impress him, let him know in her own way that she was doing well.

After a few good tugs she dislodged another rib bone and began the trek up to the dens to drop it off, as she walked she weaved back and forth making a design in the sand as she went. She would have to wait till she walked back to see how it turned out, in her head though it was beautiful.

Admittedly appalled that his concerned gesture had wound up so poorly received, it certainly had to make the unsuperstitious wonder if Mermaid's Purses might have just been bad luck! Catamaran didn't have time to apologize or help the little lioness up before he found himself on the receiving end of an unexpected assault. Teetering on his paws as he was muscled several strides away from the female he had accidentally knocked over. Whoa! Look I'm sorry I didn't mean for that to--

It wasn't like him to apologize so quickly, but Cata earnestly felt guilty for his actions. The fact that her companion wasn't about to let him off so easy though, irked him.

Strychnos had personally heard enough from the smooth-talking stranger. Honestly, the guy got under his fur and he was tired of looking at that smug face. Without waiting to hear him out, Stryc gave the other another strong shove. I don't give a s**t what you have to say! Just get lost! Get away from her!

Prepared for the attack this time Catamaran dug in and barely budged at the second push, ears pinning against the deep blue of his mane. While the dark male with his glowing markings was off balance on three legs, Catamaran charged him, arms wrapping around his shoulders as the pair went down in the small indentation where Kawasemi had previously been laying.

It took falling into her imprint for Strychnos to realize that he'd lost track of the troublesome Kawa. Whatever anger he felt at Catamaran was lost in his immediately growing concern, shoving away from the male who held his shoulders in order to stand quickly. Spinning in several tight circles both moonwise and counter-moonwise in search of her easily spotted pelt. Damnit! Where did she go? Kawasemi! Kawasemi?!

Shaking the sand from his fur Catamaran rose as well, abashed that his frustration had gotten the better of him, though the emotion wasn't completely shaken. The rogue may not have been the friendliest of characters, but it was clear he cared about cheerful little angel. Hey. Calm down. I'll help you find her.

There was a trickle of blood dripping down Strychnos' flank, Cata realized as he followed the trail of crimson dots on the sand. It lead to the jagged piece of shell Strychnos had fallen on when they'd wrestled each other to the ground. He also noticed that the Mermaid's Purse was gone. I think I know where she went..

Mmph, well - it seemed that certain individuals were making very good progress on moving the larger bones, leaving many of the smaller bones and skull untouched. Unsurprisingly, this left the sand littered with a number of sharper objects, some of which might have broken with continued abuse from paws as they moved to and fro, and cast these smaller objects against the boulders nearby. It should therefore have come at no surprise that the lion elected to ignore the larger bones for the time being - he'd focus on the smaller ones, pick them up and move them to a safer location where they couldn't cause any unexpected injuries.

Overly cautious? Some might agree to this observation, but he would sooner gain some semblance of order. That, and he was sure that the smaller bones could be put to good use at a later date. Thus, the lion began to flick the smaller bones into his paw, starting with the 'larger' pieces before he would focus on the smaller ones.

Selecting a boulder of a fitting size, he then began to set the bones on to it - it'd be a pile by the time he finished it, then he would find a way to transport them en mass!

The lion had trouble comprehending that anything actually lived within those fragile shells. After all, so far he'd only seen them empty. Something called to him that he ought to split a few open and examine their insides, but he felt that would very likely upset Kicheko. It wouldn't be worth it, he'd just need to find some sooner dead.

"I wonder how intelligent they are," he said as he pulled the largest cervical vertebrae from the sand, rolling it over between his paws. It was enormous, and dense. It would take some serious work from them to make these bones useful, but if they could he was sure what they made would last a long long time. "The whales, I mean. Are they always alone like this? Do they have families? Are they cruel?" These were the questions that continuously plagued his mind whenever he encountered something foreign.

Thuraya returned to the skeleton and smiled at the pattern that she had left in the sand from dragging the rib bone up to the dens. It wasn't as elaborate as she had pictured in her head as she had gone up but it was still pretty.

Thuraya returned to the spot she was working in and noticed the dark lioness with glowing spots of blue and green. She found the lioness to be quite striking even if she was very dark. Thuraya remembered hearing a voice before she walked away with the rib bone that she had collected and she suddenly realized this lioness was likely talking to her, a flush of embarrassment passed over the lioness, it wasn't like her to be so rude and walk away from someone who was talking to her.

"I'm sorry I wondered away before answering you, yes I have gotten lucky with the ribs, they just take a good tug or two and then you are rolling. My name is Thuraya, its nice to meet you." Thuraya introduced herself as she found another small shell to add to her collection she now had enough for a necklace and earring set.

That's okay! c:

Doria had noticed that the lioness hadn't answered her, and in truth had tried to let it not bother her. She was however, relieved when the lioness came over to respond. Doria admired her collection of pretty seashells and the work she'd been doing collecting the bones.

She gave Thuraya a smile and introduced herself. "Hi Thuraya, I'm Doria, I'm new here." She supposed it was probably obvious to the rest of the pride that she was new, not only would they never have seen her before, but she was making an obvious effort to talk to the others.

Her dark paws found another mermaids purse and she felt a cold jolt pass through her body. "Ugh!" Scurrying closer to the water she threw it in, just as she did with the last one.

"I don't seem to be quite as lucky, that's my second one!" Her orange eyes widened as she stared at the ground by her paws, how many of them were there?

Feeling rather pleased with herself for rescuing the strange sea egg, Kawasemi moved with a particular bounce in her step as she wandered back up the shore. She wondered if Strychnos and that wave-backed lion had finished fighting yet. The thought of returning to them while they continued to chew each other out for reasons she didn't understand had a less than palatable taste and she wrinkled her nose at it. Strychnos was the sort who always seemed to garner trouble where ever he went, as if it followed him like a shadow.

Kawa didn't really believe in such things though, she was certain that if he'd shown even a slightly more friendly attitude toward strangers, he might not have gotten into so many altercations! The rainforest native had tried to explain that too him multiple times, but always he seemed to tune her out. He was a troubled lion she could tell.

Catching sight of another dark, familiar shape on the sand Kawasemi canted her head, her forelock falling across her face as she recognized the shape of yet another Mermaid's Purse. Like the last, this one still had a slightly damp sheen. It made Kawa wonder if it wasn't a sibling to the other sea egg. Maybe the whole nest had been thrown from the big water! Concerned for its safety, she plucked this one up as she had the last and returned to the tidepool where she had placed the other one. Bobbing lightly in the water together, she smiled at them both, at least they would have companionship now for when they hatched. What better way to enter the world than with a sibling close at paw? Or fin.. as it was. Giggling at the self-correction, she smiled whimsically at the pair. Nuw rdeirr uid ull dsuifra irrui dwu!(Now stay out of trouble you two!)

Thuraya smiled, "I am pretty new here too, I joined just before this whale found itself on our shores." Despite having the colours of a bahari lion and looking like she had come from the see, Thuraya was in fact born and raised in the middle of a forrest, quite a distance from the ocean.

"Its a great place to live." Thuraya had been quite happy when she joined the Bahari and fit in quite quickly. While she talked Thuraya continued to paw at the ground finding another little bone that she tucked away wondering what tools she might be able to make from it.

"I am lucky I haven't found any mermaid purses yet." To be honest Thuraya was quite nervous about finding one, she didn't need any bad luck.

"Where did you use to live, before here I mean?" Thuraya always liked to learn about others lives stories, and she figured a good conversation would make the work easier and more fun.

Reluctant though he was to concede to the Bahari lion, Strychnos wasn't foolish enough to ignore Catamaran's advice. After all, he lived here and likely knew the area backwards and forwards. Or so the Poison King expected. The gods help him if he turned out to be misled. Fine. Lead the way then.

He tried to keep the tightness from his tone and failed miserably, nor could he keep himself from glaring. All of this was still Catamaran's fault as far as he was concerned. It was only right that he fix it.

Allowing Strychnos' irritation to roll off his shoulders, it was the only way they were going to be able to work together, Catamaran began to lead the way down towards the ocean waves, careful to avoid the lions that were digging out the bones and working hard to get all the ribs back to the dens. She probably realized the Mermaid's Purse was an egg and came down to the water to return it. Never met a non-native who could recognize those things for what they are. Your girl... Kawasemi, is it? She's a clever little thing...

Yea.. she's.. she's something else alright. Strychnos agreed, somewhat distractedly and half uneasy about admitting that he might have had any sort of attachment to the lioness whether it was of a strictly friendly nature or otherwise. His gaze scanned the landscape, sifting over the shapes that filled the area with quick succession. Thankfully, Kawasemi had very distinct coloring, making her easy to pick out of a crowd though it concerned him that amongst so many he couldn't seem to locate her.

There.. over by the tidepools. Cata gave his head a nod towards the small lioness staring intently into a small puddle of water. He found himself smiling at the image of her, she certainly would have made a great addition to the Bahari.

Following his guide's gesture, his gaze too, settled upon the familiar shape of his unwanted traveling companion. Immediately the unease in his chest lifted and with a slow, wary nod of gratitude, he made his way slowly towards Kawasemi whose attention was consumed by whatever she had found in the alcove. It took all his effort not to run at her, but he also felt less inclined to keep Catamaran from following him. He'd proved useful for something, at least.

Of course, Strychnos, having remembered rather suddenly that he was supposed to be guarding Kawa's precious bone token, realized he couldn't reach her empty pawed. Without thinking if she would notice the difference he quickly swiped up the nearest bit of skeleton he could find just before reaching the sweet natured lioness.
