Despite her unpleasant feelings and experiences due to the subject in question, Amarante was never discouraged for too long. "Oh, but I enjoy ruining expectations in that regard." No one really expected the slaughter of thousands to have come from a sweet little victim of circumstances. A bit of a sigh only contradicted her words a little. It wasn't as if she'd wanted to be burdened with the 'mistake' that had altered her personality in the first place. With the way others chided her over that choice she assumed that it would've been more satisfactory for her to have remained in the ground for the rest of time. But, she'd done what she had to in order to survive. Surviving at whatever cost, and no matter how little others thought of her. It was difficult to accept that anyone wanted to aid with that harrowing task. "Oh, what did you plan on doing to help me?" While her voice lacked any hint of ridicule, no amount of cheeriness could hide the strain bleeding out from those words.
While the tiny combatant was still tempted to cut that scarf to shreds, she resigned to being a better friend than opponent. "There, there." A little awkward, patting someone so much taller on the back, but the action was still well-intended wasn't it? She took a quick glance over her clothing soon afterwards. "Well. As fun as is to be covered in someone else's blood..." Just whose blood was that anyway? And she'd been so good about staying clean lately, too. Oh well. "I could use a hygiene bath, myself." One that apparently Hyde wasn't invited to attend. "Hopefully you won't mind waiting?" More than just a little strange, seeing shy body language from someone still covered in blood and immersed in dark energy. But again, probably nothing new to the elf.

"And I enjoy messing with peoples' heads." An elf who makes cookies - among other baked goods - and at the same time capable of fighting large scale battles almost single-handedly did make for a conflict in the minds of those who were brainwashed by the myths about her kind. But the idea of the little cookie elves taking on an army was amusing in itself. It had been a long while since she was able to exert herself like that. Ever since guns took over the battlefield things became less interesting and so she couldn't find a good fight for ages. So she and Ama had it out every so often. It just usually ended up a stalemate for various reasons. "There's always more baked goods. An unlimited supply. I think that was even from one of your Black Books, too." And a weird book it was. A baker named Patrick kept insisting she make odd dishes or do simple tasks and celebrated everything with a ridiculous point system. "But as I said, 'anything'. I'm always willing to push my limits and I know you're really good at doing that."Amarante's size didn't really matter to Hyde. She just liked to poke fun at her about it every so often because of the amusing reactions her friend would give. Not being bloody - or sweaty - herself, Hyde did not mind the brief interlude. "Go ahead and bathe, kitty. I'll wait."

Hyde's statement was just asking for some sort of smart comment in response. "I think it's your head that's been messed with." And the random musing over black books just seemed to confirm the validity in that snide remark as far as Amarante was concerned. "That... black books do not work that way!" How Hyde was getting tentacled literature monsters and bakers confused was quite the riddle indeed. Rubbing at her temple with her free hand, Amarante didn't take any particular pride in the fact that limit breaking and trouble making beyond even her own understanding seemed to come naturally to her. "Pushing the limits of various variables just--" It was simple for her words to get caught up in the building frustration that choked at her throat. Looking off to the side seemed to make it easier to admit what followed. "Well. That tends to be what I end up doing whether I've intended to do so or not." Not denying her unwilling role as a magnet for trouble, but not accepting the responsibility that came with that role either. Typical.
Not having her private time encroached upon by unwieldy elves was good enough of a distraction as any, though. Bearing her ever-charming smile once more, she stated her intended course of action playfully for the dazed elf. "Well then. Let's play a quick game of seeing how quickly a tall elf can get through a small portal, shall we?" Looking entirely too enthused for bath time, Amarante reached out her arm and with all of a finger opened up a circular portal in her usual fashion. The shadowed room inside would be recognizable to Hyde as her catty friend's room. With a small jump Amarante was home and the portal had started to close itself after her. Whether Hyde made it through in time was negligible. It was just a short trip across town to Ishetum. But the principle of the matter! And laziness. That factored in too. "Good luck!" With a smug little wave Amarante was off to bathe. Not her problem.

"Now Ama-cha~ Why would you think it has been my head that has been messed with? After ten millennia I am as sane as the next immortal being, yes?" That question had a rhetorical tone to it. Not that Amarante would have had any real answer for her. She had been trapped in the ground for a good long while, all alone, and that wasn't good for anyone's psyche. Even now she seemed to be confused about the contents of those books she liked to employ often. Why couldn't there be a baking tentacled monster? Did that all have to be evil sex freaks that attacked Japanese women? "Hello~ Haven't you ever heard of a 'cook book'? Why can't there be a black version of those?" Completely valid question, no doubt. No possible room for error in logic or judgement at all. Nope. Now Amarante was playing the flip side of the height coin in her favor. While it was good and fun to make those comments, she did have the advantage at times. Particularly when she made portals like that. Convenience only ever meant convenient for the demon, not her elfy friend, unless an emergency situation came up where she needed to get through. Which was never. Not that it really bothered her. Spatial distortions usually left Hydecchi queasy and dizzy for a good hour and she was quite certain Ama did not want to deal with the elf emptying the contents of her stomach in her room. That would likely ban her from social bathing even longer as well as new commentary about her being stinky, dirty, and otherwise the opposite of the demon's impeccable hygiene. But that didn't stop her from tossing a small brown bag through the portal behind her friend. Was it cookies? Or was it dog poo that had been meant for someone else? Only Amarante would be able to find out if she decided to open the bag. It certainly weighed enough to contain a dozen cookies... Instead, Hyde took the option to walk to Ishetum. That was the plan, anyway. After her trip back down the elevator and out the door of the cafe her mind had had time to wander. "Oh, I'm low on some ingredients. I was going to make some more cookies later... Ah! There's the market." Durem had quite the import goods when it came to foodstuffs. Not as good as Gambino, but that place was a little too... Testosterone-y for her tastes. And full of people so shallow that high tide didn't even get their toes wet. She didn't have a list - not even in her head - but Hyde seemed to know exactly what was missing from her spice racks and cupboards that it would seem that any room for ancient memories had been replaced by cooking. Particularly baking. And Patrick the Seeker was always bothering her for something. Freedom. Sustenance. Not being crammed into a void-space box all the time. But it was much better to have than any cookbook ever printed. Hey! She could make one of those. There were some recipes known to them that had not been seen since ancient times - or never seen on this material plane. Hmm... On second thought that might get her sued. Particularly when someone completes a dish and it tries to steal their mind. Pass. But for now there was a world of ingredients to explore. There wasn't anything else going on today, right?

The next day would find a death goddess in the prism elf's room. An unfortunate chain of events had led to Miyabi's presence in Ishetum for more than just a temporary stay, though she hadn't become a permanent resident just yet. It didn't really count as moving back home if it was somewhere she hadn't actually lived previously, right? Regardless, she'd been tasked with awakening her 'aunt' and groggily had wandered back up the stairs to do just that. But now that she was there, she was at a loss of just how to do that. The fact that she was attempting to wake up a gigantic naked elf didn't seem to bother her, though. "Hyde-oba, Mother says that breakfast is ready. Hyde-oba...?" Lacking anything else to do, she decided to poke at the elf. Only in the shoulder, but once she'd done it one time it was easy enough to keep doing it. And she seemed to enjoy it, poking at Hyde while waiting for her to wake up. Seemed that someone had inherited Amarante's penchant for mischief.

Yesterday was yesterday at this point. Hyde had gotten to bed some time before the sun came up, but well into today. After so many centuries time started to lose its 'oomph' and so she slowly stopped paying attention to it. Only stores and other peoples' sleep schedules really determined anything. But she still needed sleep herself or she'd go crazy(-er) and so had crashed at Ama's place that night. Now it was morning, or something, because she was vaguely aware of being poked by someone not used to poking. They had a lot of nerve to come up and do that to a murderous elf, so it was someone she knew. That was all that she needed for her next action. Rather than stir and get out of bed like someone not Hyde (or Ama, for that matter) she grabbed the prodding hand's arm and pulled Miyabi to the bed with her and snuggled as though she were a pillow or fluffy pet. "Nnnno, five more hours, please~" She wasn't totally sleepy, but her words were still groggy, but her hold was pretty strong. Still, the smell of breakfast was in the air...

Scarcely a resident of Ishetum for long, Miyabi was already learning life lessons from her new home. After much struggling and irritated mumbling she managed to somehow pull herself out of the elf's grasp. Frustration starting to show and cookies already stuck in her hair, she grabbed her mostly unconscious aunt by the arm and carefully dragged her downstairs. Taking a moment to toss a robe on her, of course, not for decency necessary but for warmth. She was a good little concerned but irritated niece. Though it didn't mean Hyde's head wouldn't hit a stair or two on the way down. Miyabi had her limits.

The mistress of the house was already cheerfully enjoying her breakfast downstairs, at a median of coveredness between the two that approached her. Other than two long very uncovered legs, of course. She was hardly bothered as Hyde was draped over a chair, her head unceremoniously slamming against the table. "Hi~ Oh, Miya. Is something wrong?"
An exasperated sigh for the parental unit. "Don't act like you didn't know this was going to happen, please." She wasn't really mad, though with the cattish smile she received in return the party in question hardly felt guilty either. "I'm going to take a shower." She paced off, leaving the still unconscious elf to Amarante.

It was never very easy to get Hyde out of bed when she didn't want to go, but when someone is actually strong enough to physically remove her then she did have to concede the point. Not that she couldn't dispatch of anyone unwanted, but Miyabi was one of the chosen few who could do such a thing and retain all of their bones intact - for multiple reasons. The trip down the stairs wasn't really a problem, either. Minor impacts like the stone stairs didn't really feel like anything but a tap when one's hair was thick enough to be kneaded and the rest of your body armored enough to make the knights of old jealous. All this was beside the point and purely something to occupy her mind while she was transported to the breakfast table. After Miyabi left Hyde adjusted herself in the chair and even straightened the robe to make it a little more comfortable. "Such a darling child you have. With a little work she could be like me~" The world wasn't ready for a second Hyde, let alone one that was a goddess.

Amarante looked to be assuming her usual sentimental self as she watched Miyabi's retreating figure. "A glimpse of what the parents could have been, marred by what the parents have done." She put her oversized coffee mug to her lips before she was washed away by those wistful feelings. A connection severed so brutally didn't deserve such consideration. There was no denying the circumstances that had led to the girl in question, however. She quietly took a long sip of coffee.
Emotions dulled by caffeine and bitter tastes, she faced Hyde with her usual enthusiasm. "What'll it be for you today? We've quite the spread~" Coffee, tea, juice, pancakes, waffles, omelettes, doughnuts, danishes, toast, rolls, bagels! It was the usual sort of thing, and nothing would be wasted. Though there seemed to be a little extra, for whatever reason.

Hydecchi stifled a yawn behind her hand as she listened to her friend pine on about parenthood. Some time, long before even Amarante's grandmother was born, Hyde had been a mother. Then... A lot of stuff happened. A lot of grieving and lamenting her fate. She knew the circumstances surrounding both Miyabi and Neneko - wherever she was at - and was still debating if her friend had it harder than she did so many millennia ago... But those were not the thoughts for breakfast. Or anytime. She had long since gotten over that pain. But then why did it so readily come to mind? "Yes." The reply was in general to what Amarante had offered for breakfast. Everything sounded good and Hyde was still half asleep. Idly grabbing at a cup of coffee managed to dip her fingers into the steaming brew before she grabbed a hold of the mug and pulled it closer leaving a trail of coffee behind it. "Why did you have to have me dragged out of bed?" It was a tired protest, but nothing could really be done about it now. "I could do with another thirty hours of sleep~"

While of course Amarante had no way of reading her friend's mind, hopefully the silence between the two of them meant that Hyde was beginning to understand that it wasn't necessarily a competition of who had suffered more. One had lost the ability and one had been denied the ability of playing the role, likely to the detriment of those who had been left behind. One of which, either forgotten or overlooked by Hyde, had in recent years been placed into the clan leadership role she'd been created to fulfill all along. The details that end up missing when a storyline that ended up on the backburner for a while still continued on in the background. Everything would clear itself up eventually! At least, everything that was supposed to be clear for the elf in question.
Seeing fingers casually making their way into coffee cups was enough to make Amarante sneer. "Hey. Hey! You're not supposed to do that!" One would assume she was used to the elf doing whatever she liked whenever she liked. It was something she excelled at as well, after all. But apparently she was ever the stickler about coffee etiquette, quickly blotting up the coffee mess and at the elfy fingers causing the problem. "Honestly. Were you born in a barn, or something?" The sigh that followed was entirely too affected. She was overreacting a little, though that was nothing unusual for the persnickety demon. With an irritated huff she shrugged off any perceived strangeness that might be found in her behavior. "Isn't it all right to have company for breakfast~?" Though anyone that had spent considerable time around her would notice that something just seemed... off. Sudden insistence, extra food, and guarded movements as she partook of the food in question. How very strange.

A leery glare surfaced from the table under her loose hair and was directed at the fussy demon. Something was up and it made her ears twitch. She really needed more sleep before dealing with... Whatever was planned. There was too much preparation this morning. "You're acting awfully suspicious this morning." That was that. Hyde was not one to beat around bushes or act coy. That was for those with brain matter to spare. Her's was already at a premium and couldn't waste it on trivialities. Whatever was in store Hyde was going to lay claim to the food she wanted first. Everyone else could fight her for it. Good luck to them. emotion_eyebrow

A pair of shaky arms and grasping hands were barely enough to keep the coffee cup within Amarante's hands. Steadying it tightly between said hands, she once again attempted to shrug off any accurate elf observations with demonic coyness. "I'm not acting suspicious! You're acting suspicious. What's a pig?" Wait, what? With a cough and a long sip of coffee that too was played off as completely normal. Her ineffective emotional veneer began to peel, however, through words that were intended to assure but would only cast further suspicion upon herself. "It's just... it's nothing. I'm just a little shaken up. It's nothing. Really." While it wasn't lying per se, it was most certainly obscuring the truth just short of lying.
"What's this about a pig now?" A damp-haired and redressed Miyabi re-entered at an odd moment in the conversation, towel blotting at her hair in one hand and cup of matcha in the other. With the utmost seriousness, she faced Amarante, who in turn braced herself to be scolded yet again. But for just what, this time? "I think you already have enough pets around the house, Mother."
"That's not-- I didn't-- no!" Fingertips pushed the coffee cup forward to make way for Amarante's forehead, which met the surface of the table with a dull thud. Well, someone had to be the tsukkomi in this situation.

Hey, Hyde was supposed to be the crazy one here! Ten thousand years plus would make anyone crazy. Amarante had a long way to go to catch up on her. "I agree with Miya-pi. Where do you have a pig and why? Or is that a pet name for your new plaything?" From what she had seen and heard already it certainly sounded like the catty demon was playing with the awkward man-thing. Hokey smokes did she really play around with him like that? Is that what she's so nervous about? Hydecchi wasn't sure just what she would do if there was going to be another half-demon running around. Durem was already full of enough supernatural beings that she was thinking it might be time to stop obeying the few laws she already largely ignored and begin killing some of them off. There was a particular lovely next door, though, whom would be spared. That yard, however... With everything going round and round in her mind Hyde's outward appearance seemed to grow slightly and her coffee mug cracked ever so slightly. That was horrible mistake number two.

A seemingly horrified Amarante was quick to attempt to protest, but not quick enough. She was interjected by Miyabi instead. "Hyde-oba, I'd like to be able to enjoy my breakfast without the details of what Mother does with Mr. Erhard, if that's all right with you." That was a certainty as far as Miyabi was concerned. She sipped at her matcha, looking quite cool and collected as she did so. "He's seen it, you know. The whole of her face." Had Hyde known that? Well, she did now. The patch that didn't necessarily come off even for any that had shared the demon's bed. He'd seen what was underneath. And Hyde definitely knew the significance of that.
And was all that angsting about motherhood from the previous day already forgotten? A pregnancy would be a joyful experience for Amarante, especially if he were the father. So nope, no abomination babies expected for the time being. She was shaken and fearful. Not joyful in the least. "....." And she'd been flustered to be the point of lacking words to express it, at least for a moment. Amarante couldn't even do the venomous bit of accusing them of being jealous. She knew and liked them too well for that. But, she wouldn't take abusive comments towards something she considered quite important. "It has nothing to do with that. And... I'd never call him something so ugly." But she wouldn't tell them what she did call him, either. Though toying with her precious and sensitive feelings seemed to do the trick in getting her to finally blurt out the issue. "We... the two of us. We..." Wasn't any use hiding her upset anymore, and she obviously tensed up. "We were attacked. Well, would have been. I'm not sure what kept him from trying to kill us. We're both fine, but... yes. I... I..." Her resolve was crumbling since she'd finally just said it. Maybe Miyabi had gone too far in what she'd said, but was quick to make it up to Amarante by rushing to her side to take up the shivering woman in her arms. "I don't know what I would've done, having to watch him suffer because of me." True to her word she hadn't told them he'd protected her, but the implication was there whether she'd intended it or not.
For Miyabi, there was only one thing to be taking away from what she'd been told. A single word, frigid and sharp. "Who."
