Normally he would have been alarmed at tears, but he took them as a good sign in this case, and merely chuckled as she hugged him, patting her head.
"I hope you like it. It took some time finding the right one, and even then, I wasn't sure if it'd be too flashy."
Not to mention the engraving job was a bit rushed and he had to pay 3 times the amount for them to get it done within the few short hours they had, but seeing her reaction, he reasoned it was all worth it. Extremely last-minute planning, but he was glad everything worked out.
With one arm around her, he reached out and plucked the ring with her name out of her fingers, and smiled.
"It's the other way around."
He ended the embrace as gently as he could, and keeping the ring in one hand, he picked up the other, the one with his name.
"I know it seems rushed, and marriage hasn't really crossed my mind yet, but I do know I want to be with you. There's no one else I'd rather spend the rest of this life with. And I promise you, I won't go back on my word anymore. I won't lie to you. I won't make you cry. I'll do my best to protect you, be by your side, keep you safe. I know I've put you through a lot, but if you accept..."
He held the ring out toward her, waiting for her response.

"It's perfect," she said of the music box. It was, and no one would ever convince her otherwise. All of it was, really. Pretty things with her name on them, a set of rings that she tried not to read too much into...
It was probably a good thing he took the ring from her before stepping back. Two hands to hold the music box was a good thing as Jake started talking about promises and things.
Her tears were still good tears, and she blinked in an effort clear some of them away. She didn't take the ring, she was too busy nodding and coming back in to hug him. "Of course I accept you, silly."

He was glad she liked it, and has she hugged him again, and as the music slowly came to a stop, he raised the ring once more.
"Then... would you do me the honours?"

"Um," she stepped back and sniffed. Taking half a second to wipe at her face, she completely ignored the ring for a moment and shut the music box. Her brain was still processing things. Promises and commitments, a physical representation of such things in the form of rings. She almost couldn't believe it. So soon, but he seemed utterly sincere, and she was happy. Just plain happy.
"I adore you, you know." She didn't know what else to say as she reached out to take the ring.

"And I love you."
He said this with a smile as he leaned in to kiss her forehead, and then took the ring, the one with her name, and slipped it on his own finger.

It was pretty, the ring in her hand, and it had his name written inside of it and Sherry utterly loved it.
Armagnac rumbled something about 'rushing' and 'same as before', but she did it quietly. Sherry inwardly reassured her weapon. It wasn't marriage, that would have been cause for alarm. And as far as Sherry knew it was a commitment built on honesty; she trusted it was. That was good enough for her.
The ring went on with very little ceremony, but Sherry made a show of looking at it. It was perfect in her mind.
"I love you, too," she said, hugging him again. "And you always get me the best gifts."

Jake felt his heart skip a beat as she slipped the ring on, and he grinned, glad that everything had worked out as he had hoped.
"I can't take all the credit on this one." he replied sheepishly. "Chester helped me pick the box and choose the music, since I wasn't too sure what you'd like. I just thought of the rings."
He would have given the nergal a mental prop, but Chester only scoffed, telling him he should take all the credit, and that he was just glad things were finally patched up between the two. At least, somewhat.
"Did you... want to head back now, or are there more things you'd like to see?"

Sherry found herself even more surprised. Out of all of it, the rings were his idea? She didn't know why but the confession shocked her, even if she'd rather assumed it before. "Chester has good taste. And so do you."
Armagnac snorted mentally.
Sherry let her gaze wander, the sun was pretty much gone and had taken all the but the very last of its light with it. "Do you want to head back? I mean, if we're not due back until morning..." She thought for a moment. There wasn't really anything she knew that she wanted to see here, though everything was new. "Can we spend the night off the island?"

He smiled, feeling his cheeks warm at the compliment. He wasn't really a romantic person, but just on occasion, he seemed to be able to do the right things.
"That sounds good. We can probably check out a hotel close by."
It'd be his first time spending a whole day off the island (that wasn't associated with missions), so perhaps it'd be a nice break with things. He did make sure he got at least a whole day's leave just in case. The night sight was a lot nicer than the day.

"Great idea," she grinned. A nice night away from work, filled with cuddles and the knowledge that she wasn't alone in the room? It sounded wonderful to her. She quickly gathered up her bags, maneuvering so she could hold them in one hand, the reached out to grab Jake's. Hand holding better be okay, because she was doing it. "Let's see what we can find."
