As Lin and Calendula make their way around the pond, the kodama keep between them and the water, making sure to keep them far from the pond. As they pass, the water begins to ripple ever so slightly and the tree spirits lead them even farther from the water.
Unfortunately for Miyako, the mare just ahead of the group, there is no such protection. Without warning, webbed hands reached out from the water as a kappa made a vicious grab at her.
Without the protection of the Kodama, Miyako is in danger! Roll a d20. If you roll above a 10, she manages to get out of it's grasps. If not, unfortunately, the kappa's superior wrestling skills will take over.
Apple and Geyser: Miyako is being attacked! Do you try to help her fend off the kappa or do you let her handle it? Be warned that if you do try to help her, your immunity wears off next round. Who knows what could happen?
If you try to help her, roll a d20. If you get a 15 or above, you have successfully helped her...But that doesn't mean this ordeal is over.
As the shadows creep ever closer to Berri and Silver, their guide whispers pitifully "This is our last chance," before shouting "TOAD!" The game continues but with each passing moment the lantern remains unlit, the outcome looks rather grim.
Meanwhile, another crossroads is reached and in the middle is the shadowy stallion from before. He grins wickedly before seemingly vanishing from sight...Curious. Maybe he just walked down the road?
This is the last roll for Silver! If this roll does not succeed there is no continuing on.
The last saving d20 roll.
Silver and Berri, if either of you roll a 19 or 20, Silver gets to roll a d6 and try for a 5 or a 6. If both conditions are met, congratulations Silver, you're still in the game.
Best of luck in your rolling!
Berri: After your roll, do you dare try to investigate the stallion? He seems to always be there...waiting...Or do you keep to your guide and her well lit lantern? You are relatively safe...So long as you keep your lantern on you...Right?

The priestess caught sight of the creature leaving the water out of the corner of her eye and turned to look at it. "I hope you'll excuse me," she said to the kodama. She set the lantern down and rushed to the other mare's aid. There was no question at this point as to whether or not she'd help her companion--she would. That's all there was to do or say.

Lin bowed to her Kodama friends.
"Thank you for your protection, but I must insist on helping my friends. If you wish to protect me still, send a prayer to the stars all will be well." She gathered up her courage once more and ran to help Miyako.

[edit:] Whelp. That went well. Good luck ya all!))
Leaning over near the other's lantern, she made the best attempt she could to relight hers. It was feeling like her final chance, and one she did not enjoy. Tail flicking, she waited to see if the prayers silently said worked.

Miyako was saved and Calendula's assault left the kappa disoriented as it half stumbled, half rolled back into the water. However, as the kodama had to return, removing their protection, Lin found herself startlingly alone. Now that she was a target, the pond began to ripple furiously before two more kappa came surging out of the water at the separated mare.
Looks like this isn't over yet!
Geyser and Hoshi it's going to be harder this time to save her, should you choose to. You look over and notice the pond is bubbling as if it were boiling. Who knows how many kappa are down there but it feels as if you've disturbed a hive full of bees...
Your options are to run OR risk your neck again and try to save her. However, the sheer exhaustion from all of your heroic deeds has left you feeling a little weary. Your strength is at it's limit...And now you're fighting two with maybe even more to come! It only gets harder from here.
If you try to save Lin, you must roll 2 d20s and get a 15 or better on both dice!
Apple: They managed to catch you off guard! The struggle to fight them off begins. Roll 2 d20s and if they add up to 15 or more, you've managed to get away...for now.
The guide was delighted as the lantern lit again
Silver and Berri: Congratulations! Against all odds, you survived. You continue on down your path noting for a third time the stallion...But this time he seems larger and the edges around him seem a little blurred. He flashes you a toothy, friendly grin, as if he's happy to see you before vanishing down the road ahead of you...Is that three times now you've seen him?
As you're wondering, you hear your stomach growl ferociously. Suddenly, you feel as if you haven't eaten in months and you grow fatigued. Your legs seem to feel numb as if they've lost all blood flow. The feeling is crippling.
You look over only to see your guide seems to be suffering too and in fact, she has collapsed. A pathetic whisper escapes her lips, "Hidarugami," before she lays her tired head down. Another feeble inaudible whisper as she a few rice balls slip out of the pockets in her sleeves.
So do you try to drag yourself to the stallion and hope maybe he can help you or do you go for the food in your weakened state?

She'd come this far with her current course of action. Calendula saw no reason to run now. Besides, her charge to Miyako's side had left Lin unprotected. She felt just a little guilty about that. With an added prayer to Madame Wave to be kind to them should the worst happen, she returned to Lin's side, flailing at the creatures with hooves and wings.

It was too much of a good thing, she knew it as her lantern relights, but the hunger pains started. What was going on? Body dropping she looked at the food and in the direction of the stallion. The word spoken, brought her back to the food. She did her best to get to the rice ball.

Flashbacks to her younger days alone and scared in the mountains flooded Lin's mind as she found herself alone with her deepest and darkest fears. She heard and saw nothing as she felt them come alive in this strange forest.
She stood still, the past meeting the present, unaware of her fate.
Calendula's attempt to help largely missed this time, causing them though to swipe at her as they passed Lin still their main target.
Miyako's attack only partially successful, getting her vengeance on the Kappa nearest to her sending it flying back into the water as the other made it's way back to Lin, who answered the creature an assault to the face sent it flying backward.
"Away from the water, quickly!" The guide cried, stepping back fluttering in the air nervously back and forth like the butterflies that followed her. The water continued to boil as more kappa emerged from the overfilled pond. 5 emerged this time, as the pond continued to look alive. The mare glanced around looking for a possible route of escape. “I can see a way through the bush” she said fluttering above the remaining three.
Hoshi, Geyser, Apple! You have had a chance to regroup between waves, You can either Stay and continue fighting or Flee! The Choice is yours. If you try and Flee, Roll 5d20 you need 3 15’s to elude them! If you continue Fighting Roll again 2d20 and get 15 or above on each die.
The creepy stallion’s toothy grin continued to endure yet he looked as though he’d been hurt that you didn’t come visit as he seemed to slowly vanish becoming lighter and lighter until his image seemed removed from the scene only leaving some little distortions as the reminder her stood there though you can hear echoing laughter in the air. Where has he gone?
You don’t have time to dwell on that as the hunger grips you, you try and investigate the food.
The lighter mare breaths only a little easier though with the stallion gone, worry still remains. Hunger grips and she attempts to get a nibble at the rice ball nearest her. “eat…” came the strained voice. Hooded Figures seemed to swirl around the three of you.
Berri, Silver Roll 1d20 and get above 15 to see if you manage to get the food despite the hunger!
