[Warning for eye squick] Gold wher - attacking Xanha HP: 84/120 Attack: 1d12+3 Damage: 8 Damage taken: 7
Xanha's strike was true.
The gold screeched in agony and fury as the knife plunged into her left eye and lashed out wildly at her enemy half blinded. she shrieked at the dolphineer, ichor running down her face in sickening green rivulets.
The gold's screams echoed up the twisting stone passageways. If the rider loyalists didn't finish this soon, reinforcements would be upon them for sure.

F'itz - Attacking wherholder HP: 20/30 Attack: 1d4+3 Damage: 5
When Xanah's knife sunk into the wher's eye F'itz began to think they really might have a chance. Although Kleos had set him to field medic duties he made the decision to ignore her, just for a moment. It seemed harsh, the wher had just struck Xanha but the blow had lacked some of the power of its previous ones.
Moving quickly F'itz came up beside the wherholder woman, flanking her and driving his knife deep into her side.
He would remember the sensation of her hot blood flowing over his hands for many turns to come.

Etasha HP: 19/30 Attack: 1d4+3 Damage: 4 ---
Well, it worked.
The gold went after her - unfortunately, Etasha's earlier concerns about eyes being close to teeth proved well-founded, and the gold's jaws clamped down hard around her arm and shook vigorously before letting go. She stumbled back woozily, dripping blood, and allowed F'itz to staunch the worst of the bleeding while she awkwardly switched her knife to the other hand.
Her next strike was weak and awkward, coming from the off-hand as it did.

Wherholder - KOdThe young woman managed to parry the latest strike from Kleos but she didn't see F'itz until it was too late. She gasped, staggered away clutching her side in a vain attempt to stem the flow of blood. After only a few paces she collapsed as blood loss dragged her down into unconsciousness. Death would soon enough follow if her allies didn't find her quickly.

Kleos - Attacking wher HP: 19/30 Attack: 1d4+3, +1 (Human-to-Creature Combat) Damage: 6
For a few moments she stood rooted to the spot, staring down at the slumped wherholder. She looked dead. Kleos had fought during the revolution, killed even, but it hadn't got easier. Later on, when the adrenaline wore off, she was going to be violently sick.
Swallowing hard and trying to steel her nerve Kleos turned and charged at the wher, coming up behind it and aiming for its hamstrings. "Back to bandages F'itz!" she barked sharply; his help in finishing the wherholder quickly had been useful but she didn't want him getting ideas about joining in with attacking the gold.

Xanha - Dodging HP: 25/30 8dmg - 1d8 dmgred - 5 damage taken
She hit true. But the wher's screech, both mental and physical, pierced Xanha's ears, and the dolphineer jerked back, taking her knife with her and trying to dodge away as the massive animal slashed at her. She managed to lose some of it, but not enough as those talons bit into her. Cursing, she staggered back, knife still at the ready, chancing a glance at the wherholder woman. She was down, now.
Faranth, that had hurt. "There's too much risk to stay here longer," she barked out shakily, glancing over to Kleos and F'itz.

Gold wher - attacking Xanha HP: 74/120 Attack: 1d12+3 Damage: 7 Damage taken: 4 + 6 = 10 Snarling and projecting rage and hate the gold struggled to manoeuvre her bulk around in the narrow passage to lunge at the woman who had taken her eye.

Etasha HP: 19/30 Attack: 1d4+3 Damage: 6 ---
The wherholder woman was down... and while Etasha didn't dare take her eyes off the gold to look, she doubted that the woman would be getting back up again. The gold wher was pissed at them - and rightly so - but it was impossible to tell whether it was the loss of her handler or the loss of her eye which had enraged her. The handler could still be someone else - someone even now rushing to join the fray.
Xanha's idea of retreat was sounding more and more reasonable, although Etasha wasn't sure how they would manage to escape with a gold wher hot on their heels. They'd have to find a way out that the wher couldn't follow - a narrow passage, perhaps. "Orders, Wingleader?"

Kleos - Attacking wher HP: 19/30 Attack: 1d4+3, +1 (Human-to-Creature Combat) Damage: 6
"We cannot flee!" Kleos called, her breath coming fast and deep. "This beast will chase us down in a moment," she clarified, "we must take it down!" Destroy the wher, destroy the eggs, and flee. Moraith was waiting for her at home and she still had to help the captives taken at Malvren.
Even as she replied to Xanha, the gold went for the dolphineer again. Giving a piercing whistle Kleos stuck her knife deep into the wher's hock, hoping to do damage and to draw its attention off her comrade too.

F'itz - Healing Etasha with bandage
He didn't need telling twice; now that they could all focus on the wher it made the most sense for the younger quicker women to attack while he did what he could to stem the flow of blood from their wounds. Heart beating frantically in his chest F'itz dived forward to tie a tight bandage around Xanha's arm.

Xanha - Attacking Gold Wher HP: 18/30 1d4 + 3 - 4 damage
This time, she didn't even try to move out of the way of the hit. Instead, she leaned into it, turning so the wher hit her arm rather than her trunk, at the same time as she slashed fruitlessly at the talons with which the animal was slashing. Faranth, how were they doing this? how had they survived this long, just the four of them? Kleos was insane, she could tell that. And F'itz was equally-crazy. But this was what they had to do. Four humans and a monster. This was how dolphins fought. Ajax would have been proud.

Kleos - Attacking wher HP: 4/30 Attack: 1d4+3, +1 (Human-to-Creature Combat) Damage: 6
Kleos' heart froze as the wher reared up, huge and powerful and with ichor flowing from one ruined eye. The strike of its first paw missed her but the second caught her full across the chest rending leather and flesh alike. Kleos' cry of pain was cut off by the impact with the corridor wall, the wher had batted her away as though she weight nothing!
A choked noise escaped the rider's throat as she struggled to push herself back to her feet with the aid of the rough hewn cavern wall, she didn't dare look down at herself to see how bad it might be. That she was upright was something, and she still gripped her blade. She could still do something. Gritting her teeth she charged again, slashing wildly at any portion of the gold she could reach.

F'itz - Healing Kleos!
F'itz could only watch as the gold wher cuffed Kleos across the hall. For a moment he thought she must be dead but then - mercifully - she made a small noise of pain, stumbled to her feet and charged into towards the wher again. After she had landed a couple of slashes F'itz dived forward and hauled the wingleader back to bind her chest as best he could. There was a lot of blood on his hands, but was that just from Kleos or from the other women or from the wherolder he had stabbed? He didn't know, and nor did he have time to worry.

Etasha HP: 22/30 Attack: 1d4+3 Damage: 7 ---
That was an ugly hit that Kleos had just taken - and despite herself, Etasha found herself moving forward to strike the wher again, trying to draw its attention. She could still afford to take another strike or two from the wher, especially now that F'itz had bandaged her bad arm; she was still using her off hand, but she was no longer in danger of blacking out from blood loss.
"Come on!" She feinted towards the wher's good side, blade slashing. "Let's dance - you've still got an eye I can claim!"
