"I thought it'd be romantic." He huffed, pulling the sweater up over his head to wipe his face off on the slightly cleaner shirt underneath. "That stuff? ******** it." He stood to start heading toward the path before his manners caught up with him. "Oh, ah... Are you okay?"

Gnat gave the soiled sheet a parting glance, then trotted to keep up.
"Right as rain," she quipped. "You?"

He was quiet for a moment, watching her catch up and lowered his gaze to the soiled vest. "You really think it'll clean up?"

Gnat smiled, and clapped him on the back.
"'Course. You'll see."
"Thanks for not lettin' me get eaten by a rampagin' plant, by the way. An' for the food. Oh! What about your guitar?" She glanced around.

Jerry had been so caught up in the state of his precious vest, he had nearly forgotten his other beloved thing. His face paled, and he slipped and stumbled on the plant gook slick moss to go scoop it up and cradle it to his chest like a child that nearly forgot a beloved stuffed toy on the playground. He collected his jumpsuit and dumped the basket to carry it all as an afterthought. Guitar strapped safely to his back, he started down the path again with a weak "Thanks."
After a moment he added, "And people tease me about the jumpsuits!This is why we can't have nice things."

Gnat looked down at her own ruined clothes.
"Yeah."
Shower, shower, shower was her internal mantra. She followed him, falling silent.

They traveled in silence for a while, punctuated occasionally by his fitful sneezing. He glanced up at her a few times, debating something internally before blurting out suddenly, "Y-you know... If...if you wanted, I've uh... I've got a private bathroom." His eyes darted across the path and back to her. "The uh... Shower could fit two..."
There, I said it, happy?
Happy as a guy can be locked in your damn head. You *dropped* me. You ******** *dropped* me. Idiot.

Gnat looked up at him, surprised, and then grinned.
"No offense, Jerry, but I dunno if scubbin' off plant guts is gonna put me in a companionable type o' mood. Thanks for the offer, though."

He drooped in disappointment. And then sneezed. And then sagged even further as they walked. "Ahaha it was worth a shot. Um. Sorry this uh... Wasn't really how I imagined this would go. C-could have been worse, at least?"

"Exactly! That's always a good sign." The facility came back into view, and he paused to fidget, "Um this.. This was nice, um... If you wanted to do it again sometime? We uh, could not go into the jungle, ahaha..."

Gnat was quiet for a while.
"This was fun an' all, but." She sighed. "You was right about my brother. He ain't gonna be happy when - well if - he finds out where I was, 'specially since we sorta almost got eaten, and..." She trailed off, rubbing her temples.
Her next words reflected an uncharacteristic amount of concern. "Well. He ain't been the same, since we got here. I think he might have his own s**t t' sort out, without worryin' about me always makin' a mess o' things."
She smiled sadly.
"It was nice gettin' t' know ya, Jerry, but I think we'd make better friends."

Jerry opened his mouth, Brows knit for a moment before closing it again and smiling softly, "Thanks for ah... ah... humoring me. It... it was nice. At least up until the ah- AAH-" A sneeze, "Plant." shifted, glancing toward the distant buildings. "I hope next time we ah... hang out, it goes better? Take care of yourself. And your brother, alright?"

"I W-woo-" And there it was again. "It's all this pollen, ahaha. W-well. Um. It was fun!" He fidgeted awkwardly a moment before ducking ahead down the path.
It was already awkward. Now seemed a good time to part ways. A good shower and his allergy attack would calm down, at least.
It had been a valiant try, right?
Roar gave a sigh.
