"Did I ever tell you you have a cool weapon?" she asked with another swing at the monster.
This was probably inappropriate timing, but she just felt the need to say it.
"Like it actually looks pretty neat. Who's your partner?"

The attention seemed to draw out some form of acknowledgement from his otherwise quiet weapon, engaged in battle. Song did as close to a flourish in his head as was possible for something that was an inanimate object. He looked slightly flustered, trying to translate abstract thoughts into a whole other language. "She is flattered."
"Er, I call her Piosenka. She is Song. Irdlir-virisi-ssong," he sounded out each syllable, rolling the Rs with his accent. "She is vendigo."
"Your veapon is-" There was a sudden twinge of jealousy from Song at the idea he might prefer a butter knife to her. It wouldn't do to piss her off any more than he had that time he'd kind of sort of given her away in a quest for knowledge-- "Er, vhat of yours?"

"--sooooooooong~" she finished as she backed off, beaming. Rolling r's weren't as bad to her since Spanish had similar, though of course since this was a different language her accent shone through. "I think it's a lovely name~ That and Pioseka and just Song~~ This big pointy thing here is Thane, a dracolich. Er, think zombie dragon."
Thane made an affronted noise to be compared to such lowly things as mere zombies.

"E-Exciting, yeah . . ." It would be better if this one hadn't been so dour - but she cut herself off once her partner gave her a critical eye.
Alright, it was time to unleash this charge again. Thane had been confident before, and she was feeling it too. Maybe it was the book, maybe it was simply because she had found it at all, but Stormy was ready to wreak some havoc and wasn't afraid for once -
- and then she completely tripped on her own weapon by swinging too close to her legs. The Fear leaked out as the monster struck her with a resounding smack, forcing her to her feet with a shaky intake of breath. She mumbled an apology that Lucky might not have heard as the dracolich hissed.

The dracolich cursing in her inner ear, she wavered to maintain her balance as Lucky glanced at her. "Y-Yeah, I'm . . . I'm good . . ." The shield stopped her from getting scrapes thankfully, but her hands suddenly felt thick and clumsy after the collision with the ground, fumbling to get even an inch of the runic bandages on her arm down. "It's - I'm good. I think." Crapcrapcrap.

She managed a weak smile because yaaaaay he was finally getting that spark of desperate optimism tooooooo. "Muy bien," she said, sliding the runic daggers out from her belt and tossing them on the ground between them. A small barrier erupted between them, giving the trainees a little buffer between attacks, a chance they'd have to make count.

Hearing the thick sawing sound of Lucky's blade brought her to like smelling salts. There was a nagging impulse to try something, a call to pull an invisible string that connected her to the book. It was like summoning Thane to her hand, but instead the gold book appeared.
Something continued to niggle at the back of her mind, whispers of power that laid within. Time seemed to slow down as she cracked the book open and felt a thrill go up her spine. It was power alright, the sort of power that radiated off a person who was in control . . . and she was in control of this object. She owned it.
The book disappeared but the strength it provided did not. Though still growing tired, the barrier provided enough protection for her to jump out and strike the thing with more force than she thought she could manage before stumbling back in, haggard and ready to pendant out, but with a brighter expression than before.
Power, she and Thane thought together. This was what an artifact truly was after all.
