There had once been a time when West hadn't been remotely phased by receiving a beating. He had come to realize over the last few years that it had probably been because the things that had hit him before he had enrolled at Amityville just hadn't been very strong. At least he could be proud that he took this series of punishing hits without making a sound. Like a man. A bruised and battered man with no recollection of the last twenty minutes.
Eventually he stood up again, shuffling toward the cavern and the sounds of his companions. West rubbed his head and wandered through the passageway into a wall.

The demon grunted to himself as he stumbled away from the cavern wall. No one saw that. He turned around, barely able to perceive a dim light coming from behind him. West headed that way, his arms held up just enough to catch him if he slammed into another wall.

Okay, this was good. West took another dozen steps forward, speeding up his pace when he didn't run into anything.

Somewhere along the way, West veered right, skimming against what was the left wall of the cave. He stopped and squinted, muttering something about 'jack-danged fish' before moving on.

Rather than venture out into the middle of the cave, the boil skirted around the edge, keeping a hand on the wall he'd found. At least he knew he wasn't backtracking that way.

A little farther ahead, West noticed more dim lights out of the corner of his eye. He left the safety of his rocky wall and moved out into the cavern.

Something grabbed West in the dark and began to tug, yanking him back the way he had been. He eventually shook it off, but not before he lost quite a bit of forward progress. At least he thought it was forward progress.
