"Guarded as in you won't talk about yourself in a way that's honest and frank. You always have to weave and bob like you think you're a field mouse avoiding the talons of a hawk. I'm not a hawk Melvin, I have no intentions of killing you and eating you." A literal take on a not so literal observation, Rin hoped perhaps he still got the hint.

He stopped and just looked at her. "You got all this from me not hugging you? You're making me sound like some quiet liar. I talk to everyone all the time about myself. Ask anyone." Well, he talked about a few things of no real weight or value about himself, but that happened all the time in everyday conversation. It was just smart to make her assume that she just hadn't heard too much about him and others did.
She's pushing.
Didn't Rep say these exact same things to you?

"Not from that. From everything leading up to it. It's come to a head Melvin," She was clearly skeptical though at the implication that he might have told other people more than he's ever told her. And yet she doesn't recall them being there during that whole... thing... with the bug lady. Nooope. She was not impressed by your explanation.
"Oh but you're so good at it," among other things.

"Come to a head? Is being with me that unbearable that I'm now a issue?" He asked, continuing to sweep and not bothering to look at her. His tone had switched from playful to just flat. "What do you want?"

"Nooo.... I'm saying; you've never hurt me over this before. But now you have. I just want to know why for once okay, but you just keep weaving and dodging and refusing to offer any straight answers." She frowned deeply as her eyes rolled back, "It doesn't help either of us?" and yet he insists.

He gave a huffing sigh at he looked at her. "Why? Why what? Why do you think there is even a why? You make it sound like I hurt you on purpose, and that I'll keep doing it. That I'm now dangerous from this point on. You seem mighty tolerant of a guy who hacked off your arm, but I just shove you a bit and you harp on me. Is a hug such a big deal for you?" He didn't get why this was such a big deal. "It was just an accident."

He was in a conversation hard place. Saying that Rin knew nothing about him would only prove what she had already said and then prompt them getting to know each other. Saying he didn't like being touched would prove to her that he did have a thing about space. In the end, he'd be proven a liar if he told the truth. Saying a lie really would make him a liar, but she wouldn't know, however he didn't know how else to excuse his behavior aside from just saying she was nuts and walking away, which only showed there was a issue or that the conversation hadn't been properly resolved in his favor.
Here he just wanted to clean, however Rin was becoming more and more observant.
How much did she need really to be satisfied? It also bugged him that even a small amount of violence was uncharacteristic of him. Part of him prided himself on that fact, that he could be cool and collected, but that also mean any show was not easily excused. Maybe he should act more like a Sun from time to time to make acts like this less questionable? He'd have to make a note on that.
"You rushed up to me and hugged me. I'm not used to it. It doesn't exactly happen to me every day." He had stopped sweeping to look at her. "I don't like it." He resumed sweeping.

She stared right back, questioning whether or not this was another one of his dodges. Well, at least it was something. Finally. "You don't like hugs?"

He didn't want to bring it up, but he felt it might have to be cleared. "My sister is the only one that hugs me. I don't want anyone else to." It wasn't that he hated hugs or even physical contact, but his sister knew him best and she had long since made it clear that she didn't mind him. That there were reasons he didn't touch anyone.
His blue eyes looked over the rim of his glasses, narrowing as they looked at her. "Satisfied?" He said, using the same word she had used before.

Rin seemed to have a huge weight just...lift away as she relaxed and drew a quick breath and exhaled, "Yes actually." She offered Melvin a slight smile, "That is assuming that's not another twist or turn to cover the truth?"

"It wasn't a twist or turn. It surprised me. I reacted. It's how I react when people hug me. I didn't lie on that." He words were short and tense. While Rin was relieved, he wasn't, and felt personally robbed by someone who hadn't been satisfied with what he said. "It's nice to know you always think I'm lying."
He went back to sweeping.

"Is it any wonder why?" Rin offered him a critical look. Seriously Melvin? You bob, weave, twist, turn, anything you can and then are surprised that when finally cornered - more tricks are expected? She shook her head and sighed again, "But in that case, I don't understand why you were so worried? A lot of people find hugs highly intimate. I don't understand why you would think it's such a bad thing to confess to put me through... well... all this?"

"It's not intimacy. It's not like I'm flustered. I just don't like it." There were other reasons and he didn't want her thinking he was just some bashful boy who got red-faced over a damn hug. While he didn't want to go into it, he didn't want the wrong thing to be imagined to create a false representation of who he was.
"I didn't think it was vital to know, or you'd hinge our friendship on it. You also didn't say you didn't think I was a liar, so thanks. I feel great now." Just super.
