OK FINE. If he couldn't properly hit something than he could at least protect. That was (mostly... half...) what he had been trained for and that was what he'd do! So even though Shaheen had yelled at him in a very scary voice, which was very similar to her normal speaking voice actually, he still hustled next to her to bear the brunt of the attack from the shockwave the creature they were fighting caused. It wasn't much, but it was something. Quickly he gave her a frown, as though this were to mean 'you're welcome' or even 'look I did something good, yay!' before he turned and darted in front of the Death woman he swore he knew. Feeling rather bashful that he'd forgotten her name and could only remember that the curve of her face and something about her eyes was familiar (but different too), he took the shockwave for her as well. "Should you need more protection, I will do my best." He told her in a lowered voice, mostly because he'd kind of been offering to protect a number of others and she was meant to be a little bit more special. Only a little, really. The dark priestess darted back in, arm raised to bring her scimitar down towards the thick body of the creature. They had to keep at it, had to keep fighting, despite the magic and might the beast was throwing back at them. It couldn't have their lair. It wasn't home, but it was as close as they had, and Neru would not allow it's fall by the claws of some fat bodied shadow. Of course, she was only one woman. One blade. There was only so much she could do on her own. Where was Bastion? Where was Lifen, and Soren, and all the others? Where was Medea? The priestess had no answers to these questions, but she had might, and will, and she kept fighting. She didn't seem to be along anymore though. Mismatched eyes fell upon the guardian that had taken a blow for her, and she gave him a considering look before nodding her thanks, the corners of dark lips twitching upward minutely. "If you desire to do your duty as a guardian, then I will certainly not complain." Ying jolted where she stood at Tseng's call, realizing that she'd been tactless. "Y-Yes sir!" she said quickly, swinging her bow like a club and bopping another shadowling on the head.
Something was bothering her. "Tseng have you seen my brother?" She hadn't even seen a hair on that boil's head. It seemed rather odd to wake up during the wee hours with him gone, and then come out into the central area and still not find him.
Perhaps he'd been ... kidnapped?!

"Your brother? I have not! I do not see him among the warriors here either," he replied while taking a moment to quickly look around towards the others here. They had a fair number of those defending the lair, but they were also missing quite a few people. "Perhaps he had gone to the human world to harvest fear? Or even to Halloween?" Tseng suggested. Ying jumped back in front of Tseng, firing arrows rapidly and without accuracy. It was the best she could do to keep them off Tseng- Ying had never been much of a fighter anyways. She just wanted a peaceful rebuild, yet they got shadowlings. Bahumbug.
She nodded slowly at Tseng's guesses. "Yes, that is true. Though ... he did not tell me of any trips to the human world. It is very strange for him not to tell me ..." Then again, Jing had his secrets. Maybe he was secretly dating a human ghoul?! Ohhh the drama.
As Tseng leaped through the air, she watched with shining hands. She clapped quickly and said, "Oh!! Very impressive! My brother could leap higher, but your hop is very high as well!"

In any case, he gave a rather haughty huff after her not-entirely-a-compliment-compliment. "Is that so? Well then HAH!"That cry was more because he suddenly had to duck rather than attack. This was most absurd. And highly irritating. Mengyao ground his teeth together once more and fired off a few more arrows, hoping that they would eventually make their mark.

The oversized shadowling moved once, twice, and then halted, staring straight upwards. It seemed to open its mouth for a second to say something, utter a few strange shrieks and clicks before cracks, thick white cracks started to form along its surface, covering its entire being until - - It unfurled, long black claws extending outwards first, followed by antennae, legs, a giant hollow heart sigil in the center of its chest. It was like watching something exhale for the first time, watching it create form from emptiness, watching as it towered high, high over everything else, easily engulfing anything in its way. What can be destroyed will only come back stronger OOC: BONUS EFFECTS BONUS EFFECTS APPLICABLE THIS ROUND: gaia_crown [ Unlimited Attacks ] - All attacks are unlimited for this round! Ying stared straight up at the shadowling that now towered over them by quite a few feet. That? That was a big shadowling. How were they supposed to take that down all by themselves? They would need Medea's blessing for something of this caliber!
Still, she had to be strong for her sempais friends! Her grip on her bow tightened, if only a bit, and she said, "Do not worry friends! He does not look that tough at all! Why I bet he is friend-" An arm smacking her to the side told her otherwise.
Well ... at least it hadn't hit her friends!
As she was flattened to the ground, she sent a silent prayer to whatever godddess it was that the death horsemen worshipped (she'd never bothered to do much investigating) and even a tiny one to Jack. Just in case.
