D'von rolled his eyes. "It strains when I breathe. Might as well do something useful instead of laying around." He inspected the mare, resisting the urge to frown at the uncomfortable feeling gnawing at him. "How're you holding up? Nothing big happened while I was asleep, right?"

Nae shook her head, pushing the leaves towards him. "No. Nothin happened. Now eat an quit being such a.... Male." She said sarcastically as she picked at more leaves, pretending to eat a few so he wouldn't be suspicious.

D'von's urge to frown prevailed. "What's that even mean? ... You know what? Forget I asked. I'm not sure I want to know." He ate a few leaves, then looked over at her. She wasn't eating as much as she should. A few leaves wasn't enough for her. That was double if she was pregnant. But how would he address such a problem without her flipping on him? They'd finally come to a truce; he didn't want to break it. His ears swiveled as they caught the sound of a growl. When he looked up, he sighed at the sight. Really? That was it? A few wild dogs. He approached the creatures, letting the closest snap at him. His only response was to smack the irritation with his hoof, sending it into the rock. The others fled at it whimpered. "You can have the rest of my share," he said over his shoulder to Arachnae. "I found my lunch." It might be a little disturbing for a northern grass-eater, but it was what he'd been raised on. Wild boars, wild dogs, lizards, snakes, even toads. This was a little more satisfying to him than the leaves and would let her eat more.

Arachne abandoned the leaves to watch him as he killed one of the wild dogs and began to eat on it. At first her stomach rolled in revulsion but she stifled that down and crept closer, her curiosity getting the better of her. If she was pregnant, would the children she bared have a taste for flesh? Would she begin to crave it as she grew bigger with the foals inside? "What does it taste like?" She asked curiously as she bent to sniff at the carcass.

D'von blinked and looked up as Nae asked her question. "It tastes like meat. I'm not sure what I'd compare it to. Maybe rabbit." He shrugged. "If you want to try it, I'm not objected to sharing." That was completely her decision, however. Meat wasn't as... mild as plant life was. Him eating plants was probably an easier transition than her eating meat. There were some plants in the south that he'd eaten; just not many due to scarcity. But he didn't think many northerners besides his father and his new mate were meat eaters.

Nae considered for a long moment before leaning forward and taking. Small, hesitant nibble. She chewed and discovered that meat was tangy and a lot tougher to chew than the herbs she was used to. The taste and texture wasn't entirely unpleasant, though it was vastly different from her normal diet. She swallowed after having chewed it to a consistency that was able to be swallowed. She then sniffed again at the metallic smell of the carcass before looking at D'von. "It's.... Different..." She said. Finishing the phrase in her head with a "like you."

D'von cracked a smile. "That's what I thought when I first ate grass." He ripped off another piece for himself, chewing quietly. Well, at least Arachnae hadn't called him what everyone else did after seeing him eat. Even fellow Sixers had stared or even had to look away at the sight of his eating habits. Repulsive, he'd been declared. Savage. A monster. A heritage he'd been trying to run from. And yet, it was the only reason he'd been able to protect what was important to him. He wanted the strength of his impulsive beast, but the control of his manipulative strategist. Could he have both, or would he have to choose? Possibly compromise some of the strength for control.
Well, he'd figure it out. Maybe this journey north would let him clear his head...

Mae continued to nibble at the carcass beside D'von. If this was what her family was to eat, for she wouldn't tell D'von but she was fairly certain at this point that she was carrying, she might as well become acustomed to what they ate. But the sudden curling and fluttering if her stomach, shot her eyes open and he darted away and behind a boulder where the bare contents of her stomach soon became displayed for any to see if they happened to cross by this path. She coughed and shuddered as the wrenching came to a stop. Nae wasn't sure if it was the meat that made her sick or the little pests growing inside, but she felt that this would be a long pregnancy.

D'von automatically followed her, not looking away when she lost her lunch. "Maybe you should stick to the leaves for now." The comment was light, but the one following was gentle--and accompanied by a nuzzle. "We'll be in the north soon. Then you can rest." It'd be a lot easier on her once they reached that part of the isle, where grass and other plants were plentiful.

Nae shuddered and involuntarily leaned into D'von's nuzzle as he spoke to her. After a moment of her regaining her breathing and her stomach going back to normal she spoke to him. "Are you sure you should be traveling?" She Ske concernedly.

"Yes." There was not a shred of hesitation in D'von's voice. He nipped at her mane, for once not experiencing the nervousness of expressing his feelings around Arachnae. "I told you I wouldn't leave you by yourself. That's not a promise I'm going to break." He wasn't going to leave her, not even for death's sake. "I'll be fine, sweet pea. We both will."

Nae stared at him uncertainly for a moment or so. Even though she had ears what he shouted to Ruin, it was still hard to believe that he possibly cared for Arachnae, especially after how had first reacted to her. Sighing she relented and motioned for him to lead the way, her inability to talk at the moment coming from confusion and uncertainty.

D'von nodded and started walking northward once more. Now that he was thinking, doubts began to plague his mind. Did she have even a particle of the feelings he had for her? She cared enough to take care of him while he was injured and ill, but was that the same? Ruin's harsh words cut into his heart. Was he right? Once Nae was with her mother's herd, would this all fade away like a dream? He closed his eyes for a brief moment, pushing those thoughts out of his mind with the sound of his own words. Arachnae's safety and happiness were his priorities. He would not put even his own happiness above it.

Days passed in a peaceful, but confusing blur. Arachnae was incredibly happy for D'von's company as they journeyed towards her mothers land. Though her mother ha recently Chosen, the mare was still uneasy around humans, therefor she settled a bit farther away than the rest of the bonded. Nae decided it would be okay to take D'von there. She had doubts that he would stay anyways, though she wished he would.
The green land became familiar as they plodded further north and her disposition greatly increased as she felt herself at home. She hasn't realized how much she had missed these lands. "D'von... What will you do when we arrive?" She finally asked one afternoon as they settle down by the river in the shade of a large apple tree.

D'von blinked at the question. Nae had generally avoided questions like that up until now, so it caught him off-guard. He gazed into the river, then finally spoke. "Whatever makes you happiest." He knew he couldn't keep avoiding this, trying to mask the feelings that radiated through his being. "Unless you tell me otherwise, I will stay with you."
