Ink shrugged. “No clue let’s get back.” He didn’t want to risk anyone less then pleasant finding Copper. The other male had gone through enough and didn’t need any more hostility. His muscles twitched with the need to go find a hiding spot himself. He hated surprises. He’d have to be watchful on the way back.


Ciel thought the weather couldn’t get any hotter. He had come here and was now sweating. Maybe up higher would be cooler but just laying out on the ground in the sun like now was killing him. Grunting he rolled over.

Inkling looked at Copped and nodded eager to be on his way. He didn’t even notice the ink on Copper. He probably wouldn’t until that harpy for cleanliness yelled at him. He kept looking around paranoid and thought he heard something but it was probably his mind playing tricks on him.

Getting the wind knocked out of him was not Ciel’s idea of a relaxing time. Still after he jerked up and saw a blue ball of fur he was less concerned. “Heya.” Were those wings? Geeze this was a low flyer to hit him while he had been laying down. Why fly so low when you could get a better view from up high. The only time Ciel flew low was at night when he couldn’t really see all that well. "You ok?"

“Yeah I’m fine.” It was an automatic answer and Ink sighed knowing his friend deserved better. “Well mostly I’m used to you and your family now, but others… eh.” He shrugged a bit thinking about others. It was weird to meet Ith who just dragged him along for things, Copper who was scared of everything b-u-t Ink, and Lightning who was one really good snap from killing everything sometimes it seemed. Somehow they balanced out, but if Ink was tossed back into the hate and rejected he had before he would have just felt depressed and slipped back into being a hermit. “It’s weird to think about now.”

“Uh calm down a little. I’m not gonna hurt you.” He made a little tsk noise and shook his head kindly. “um I’m Ciel. You know like the water thing but spelled different.” He smiled and made a little arf noise like a seal would. He gave the other gladier a huge smile. “So what about you?”

Inkling couldn’t understand what could be so special about a silly little stone, but as long as it didn’t mean trouble he didn’t really care. “I guess.” His steps made an extra loud squelching sound and he winced. “Ithil’s gonna have a fit if I don’t take a swim before we get back home.” He looked at Copper ruefully knowing how Copper felt about heights of any kind including river banks. “We could find a nice spot to lay down in the shad if you want. Ithil’s been really picky about how clean the den is lately and I don’t wanna get yelled at until sun up tomorrow.”

Awww how cute. He liked the way the other gladier giggled. “Well Zulani it’s nice to meet you.” He didn’t understand why she was so shy. He lay back down on his stomach with his tail wagging lazily behind him. This way he didn’t seem so big. That had to be it. It was all his fur. His way to fluffy and warm fur. It must make him look like a real bear of a gladier. “I’d invite you to take a nap but if you’re like me it gets hot really quick. I’m a bit lost so I don’t know a nice cool shady place to cool off.” He shrugged trying to make the best of it all.

Inkling shrugged. It didn’t really matter to him as long as Copper was safe and comfortable. “Sure sure.” He walked along wondering if maybe he shouldn’t just live in water for a while and see if that would get the ink out of his fur for more than a moment. It would be so nice not to drip. “Do ya ever wish you were different?” He looked at copper curiously. He knew the little gladier could shoot off copper bits at least that’s what he thought they were.


He smiled brightly at her. “Really? A cave? That sounds exciting, and cool.” He was still laying down but now he wondered how cool the cave was. Just the thought of an area not so hot made him happy. His tail wagged. “I’ll follow if you lead. This way you’ll be out of the sun soon. Or you could travel under my wing?” He held a wing up offering a space for her.

Ink was starting to get concerned from Copper’s silence before he finally spoke. “Thoughts like that are normal and ok, as long as ya don’t drown in them. Yer’re hardly a burden.” He rolled his eyes. “I’d hate flying. I’d be dripping on everything below me and thad annoy a lot of others.” Inkling kept talking as they approached the ball. Seeing the kit he looked around and didn’t notice any other gladiers around at all. Concerned he cleared his throat loudly trying to wake the kit up. He looked at Copper not really sure what to do with a stray kit. Nothing popped out of the area when he cleared his throat. “ah Hello?” Ink was speaking to the kit staying a bit back so his appearance didn’t scare it.

He shrugged. “Being too warm for a bit isn’t so bad as long as I can cool down later.” He started at the strange gladier who popped out of thin air. Ciel’s head spun back and forth between the two as they spoke. He didn’t really understand it but he did understand there was a little kit all alone in the world somewhere and Ciel could only image himself in the kit’s place and scared. He nodded at the female. “Um you can go back to the cave if the light’s to much I’ll look for the kit.” He turned to the male with the strange tail. “You said orangey-brown? Could I get a name to go with that?” He stood up. The heat would be horrible and Ciel would not like it but it didn’t matter. There were more important things to handle right now. “I’m Ciel by the way.”

Inkling watched Copper interact with the kit. So the dad knew Lightning? Maybe the father was on the way to see Copper’s brother which would explain why the kit was here, but why had it been left behind or rather not been watched close enough so that it could wander off. “Well maybe ya did go to far, but we can take ya to Lightning Pawn, he can sort it all out with yer father.” He looked at Copper to see if it was a good idea. “We could stay here for a little while to see if yer dad finds ya but if it starts getting to close to night then we can take ya home with us to see yer dad’s friend?” This way he could bath and be less of a mess for later and the kit could be kept safe.

Zulani and Ace. Today was the day for meeting strange azerin even if it was too warm. “Alright then.” He nodded and grinned. “find the sleeping Ca’an then find a nice spot to cool off and we can all sit down and relax.” It seemed like a good plan to him. He was happy to meet new people and this while under and uncomfortable circumstance was still exciting. He blinked and looked at Ace having a thought. “Does he have wings and like to sleep in trees or on the ground?” It might change their search tactics if he liked to sleep in trees or under them.

Inkling shifted a step back from the little one. “No ya can’t eat it. The ink might make ya sick.” He looked to Copper for back up and confirmation. He didn't really know if it could be eaten. Ink had never thought about it before.

Ciel nodded he’d stick to the ground then and maybe do just a bit of gliding. He wouldn’t want to miss the kit if it was under a bush or something. “Sure thing.” He gave the dad a reassuring smile before starting out in a random direction calling out for Ca'an.
