~ Merrellmine! He has impressed! ~ Amaranth let out a satisfied little snort. ~ He is very handsome. Perhaps we could convince he and His to join us... ~

Merrell had been having that exact same thought. Watching the lovely little blue impress brought back all of the warm memories of her own bonding to Ameranth. The shock of that first mental touch, the swelling of love and joy and purpose. Merrell's attitude seemed to thaw considerably as she watched the pair. At least the blue would not be lost between.

"Congratulations." She said to the young man who had just become a dragonrider. It even sounded as if she meant it.

Aurelien straightened when he heard a voice, having been disheartened that the blue had past him by. "Of course I am," he agreed immediately. Of course he was the best. He beamed at the blue for a moment, temporarily forgetting that they were in a cave. It was only when Meroc congratulated him that he seemed to jolt back to reality. "Oh, thanks," he said awkwardly, beaming at the other boy. "His name's Kaeth." He didn't know how to describe how he felt--this amazing--

Do not try. Instead, we will find me something to eat. Yes, I like this idea, Mine.

"Thank you," he said, glancing towards Merrell with a smile. "What do I do now?" he asked. "He's hungry."

"You feed him." Merrell smiled at the younger boy. "We have some rations here." She handed him a supply of dried meat. "And I believe some of the dragons have gone hunting." Sizing up Aurelian, Merrell decided to give it ago. She was nothing if not persuasive and young men tended to find her attractive, which couldn't hurt. "You know..." She said under her breath, too low for any of the resistance riders to hear. "He's a beautiful blue, but neither of you will get very far if you go back to Trine. You won't be respected for your true worth, everything will be based on the color of his hide." She smiled faintly, "I should know, I was in the same position not too long ago. But if you come with us, you can advance as far as you want. Color shouldn't matter, the worth of the rider and the dragon should be the only thing that matters."

~ Oh well said Mine! Well said! ~ Amaranth chimed in warmly. ~ That will make him stop and think! ~

Kleos folded her arms across her chest and narrowed her eyes at the revolutionary woman. "You have handed over your supplies, please stand back as we agreed!" she called in clear clipped tones. "Aurelien," she bowed her head then to the new Weyrling, "my congratulations on your Impression; he is a fine dragon indeed."

Ja'kki grinned as Merrell went to work on the newly Impressed bluerider. Aurelien, that's what the traditionalist woman had called him. If he happened to glance her way, Aurelien might catch a saucy wink from the little greenrider. She couldn't hear what Merrell was saying to him but If she wasn't his type, Ja'kki was certainly a different flavor. If it convinced another to join their cause, she wasn't above flirting.

Emerath trilled brightly, her tiny slender form fluttering from excitement as she crooned and thrummed her greetings to the handsome blue. ~ Oh he is beautiful and pale like our Amaranth. Look at how slender he is as well~ The green made no attempt to keep her words of praise private from the other dragons, even Kaeth himself could hear her should he so choose.

Aurelien took the dried meat from Merrell and carefully fed Kaeth, not bothering to thank the older woman. How was he supposed to respond to someone who had stolen his dragon's egg in the first place? "Thank you, Kleos," he said with a smile. The wingleader's praise seemed to mean something to him. He paused and glanced back towards Merrell. "I think I could get somewhere back home," he said at last. "Maybe a wingleader, even." Or candidate master--he didn't fancy that job, but it was a possibility.

"I don't fancy causing hatchlings to between," he added. "Just think what would have happened if I hadn't been here!"

Merrell had backed up a bit, not wanting to cause unnecessary violence. She stood at a distance that she expected would be acceptable, though when Aurelien responded she had to suppress the wave of irritation that washed over her. She answered him, though since she was further away from him her tone was loud enough for all to hear.

"Have you ever seen a blue wingleader, boy?" She shook her head sadly. "No, you haven't. Because blues are considered lesser dragons among your folk. But I wish you luck, if you want to go back home and live a mediocre life and watch your dragon suffer because of your lack of action. Well, that's on your shoulders." Merrell forced herself to give a casual shrug, anyone who did not know her extremely well would not recognize that the indifference she exhibited was only an act.

"I'll be the very first," Aurelien said, shrugging at Merrell. "Things are changing at the Weyr, as well. Eventually they may see that we are the best," he glanced at his blue and smiled. "Why don't you ask Keanye or Hekate? I'm sure they'd like to join your group." Watching the revolutionists make the mistake of harassing Hekate would be hilarious. "Or better yet, ask Kleos." He gave the woman a grin. "I'm sure she'd be agreeable."

Asking anything of the wingleader was a great plan. They definitely wanted to do that.

Merrell wanted badly to glare at the cheeky new rider, but she didn't allow herself to. Instead, she went over to where Ja'kki and S'lar were standing, sighing a little. "No joy, at least not yet." She muttered under her breath to her friends. "Maybe we'll have better luck with the next one." Merrell tossed her head in irritation. "I hate kids." She added.

~You tried, Mine. They will realize soon that their ambitions wont lead anywhere with Those Others.

S'lar quirked his lips at Aurelien, and put a hand on Merrell's arm. Arguing with the new rider would hardly endear him to their cause after all, and there would still be a chance with the other egg.

"Merrell it looks like we have someone who shares our views whether he joins us or not. Good luck, boy. May you do well in your defiance of worth based on colour."

Daroth arrived back with a medium sized herd beast in his claws. Doing his best to hover, he dropped the beast in front of the entrance and tried to move back and away so he could land. This should be enough for now. I can go and get more.

Finally he managed to land and immediately looked for his rider. N'ymi was still at the entrance with Kleos trying to keep an eye on the thieves. When the blue hatched out and the boy Impressed, she clapped her hands together. "Congrats boy! A very 'ansome blue! "

``````````````````
Kharmeen had hoped that the blue would come for him but was pleased when it managed to Impress one of the other candidates instead of going Between. Still he moved slowly further back, and there he saw it. The Knockabout Egg. Hissing, trying to get the attention of the others, Kharmeen wondered if the rest of them should gather around the egg. It looked okay.
"I found the other egg. Over here. We should be close I think."
PostPosted: Mon Dec 17, 2012 11:10 am
The Knockabout egg wriggled, jiggled, fell and then rolled to knock lightly against Kharmeen's foot. Lying on its side it started to shake more vigorously, perhaps making up for lost time! After a bit more jerking around that sent spinner-web cracks shooting all over the surface it stilled again. A few moments later a pair of back feet kicked out of the shell near the large end. Very definitely bronze they waggled around in the air for a few moments and then the egg rolled slowly over so that one foot came to rest on the sandy floor of the cavern. After a bit more waving around they vanished again, only to reappear abruptly along with a bronze tail and hindquarters as the large end of the shell broke away.
The lime green egg rolled a little more then and the semi-hatched dragon managed to get its hind feet under itself. With some purchase there, and presumably its forefeet on the bottom of the shell it started to back out of its egg. Wing tips appeared, and then flanks, then all of his wet little wings were free, then shoulders appeared, feet, neck... and last of all he ducked his head out, raised it, and trilled a happy greeting to one and all. Blinking vivid emerald green eyes he stepped away from his egg and looked up at Kharmeen with a friendly chirp. Giving the candidate's knee a gentle headbutt he moved away and on towards the others with slightly wobbly steps.
Kaeyne eyed the egg as it cracked, wary and hiding it behind his bland expression. When it cracked, adorable and shiny, he stepped back. A silver may Impress to him but other than that, his sexuality left no room for metallics. Pity that. He believed he'd make a rather grand rider.
The Candidate stepped back and turned, heading back out of the cave. He stopped near Kleos and the others, tone as mild and unthreatening as his gaze. "It's a bronze. Some lucky heterosexual strapping young man is about to become very entitled."
He wanted to ask 'could we go now?' but that seemed a bit rude.
When Merrell saw the little bronze emerge, it felt like being smacked in the chest. She felt tears come to her eyes and had to turn her head for a moment until she could gather herself again. Bronze. Just like her father's dragon. Would this new pair turn out like that? Like all the other bronzeriders that she knew? Cruel and arrogant, operating under the belief that they owned the whole world? Her father's arrogance had cost him his life... Merrell herself had taken it and her precious Amaranth had witnessed the bronze dragon going between, bugling piteously for his lost rider.
~It will be okay, MerrellMine. He's only a baby.~ Amaranth crooned softly to her rider, sending waves of love and support in her direction.
"Yes..." Merrell whispered under her breath, "but in the wrong hands they will grow up to be just like the rest." She felt for the hands of her comrades, needing their strength. They were the only ones who really understood the damage that could be done by the elitist brainwashing that would surely be perpetrated on the little bronze, training him to violence and cruelty along with his rider.
She watched as one of the candidates stalked away from the bronze, heard his comment about "some heterosexual strapping young man" and gave him a genuinely sympathetic look. That was another thing that seemed unfair, the gender specifications by which the dragons chose their riders.
Kharmeen stopped immediately when the egg rolled up against his foot. Holding his breath, the weaver lad watched as the egg slowly but dramatically hatched. Tears of joy that the dragon was unharmed welled up in his eyes. Finally, the fellow was out and a lovely bronze hide caught what little light there was... "Hey there! Welcome to the world. Sorry it's not where you expected to be."
He was rewarded with a trill and a chirp. Amazed, Kharmeen barely moved as the bronze gave him a gentle headbutt. Half waving his hand, he called out, "Good luck!"
