Thrarothar

He hadn't realized how imminent the hatching of the eggs would be when the two dragons left. Thrarothar lurked about trying to see through the mists when he thought he heard a faint crack then a meep from a bush. If only the fardling mists would clear!

"Hello?" Then there was a flurry of activity as they tried to get the dragonet to come to them. Thrarothar moved toward the front as D'lin called for the candidates. Now was his time! He waited until a brown shape made itself out in the mists. A brown! Browns were respectable. Thrarothar grinned. "C'mon boy." He was momentarily distracted from the dragon as a roar echoed from the mists. Those had to be the thiefs. Hurmph. What mattered was they had the eggs. Well egg and baby.

Thrarothar turned his attention to the brown and tried his best to attract it to him. Everyone said happy thoughts worked for flits right? Couldn't hurt to try here. Wait where was he going? The lad frowned until the brown pushed out his fellow egg. Ah that saved them from running around.

Muburine

Muburine had been following the brown rider. He was suspicious of the sounds they had been hearing. It certainly didn't match with what he thought a baby dragon would sound like. Had he heard a yelp? It had come from behind them, back the way they'd come.

"J'nes? Soral? Did either of you hear anything?" Hardly had he gotten the question out, when the brown adult took off back the way he'd come. Shards! Muburine hurried after. As they closed in he saw the brown hatchling. Oh what a pretty boy! The young boy winced as a dragon bellowed, not one of theirs, and promised dire threats. He was very much glad they hadn't run into them out in the mists.

Muburine smiled. The brown was adorable. Going back to fetch his sibling. He whispered, "your a sweet boy."

With one wing still draped over his sibling's egg the brown warbled and bobbed his head at the people drawing near out of the mist. Were all of them here for him, and for his sibling? Crooning fondly he dipped his head to nuzzle at the striped shell.

While looking after his sibling was very important there was another important thing, a vital thing... coming towards him actually, he could feel it. The brown's head snapped up and he bugled again, joyously this time, eyes whirling brighter than ever; that was what he was missing!

D'lin breathed out a sigh of relief as the brown not only made an impression but brought forth its missing sibling as well. He knew that more eggs had been stolen but the trails leading out of the Weyr had indicated they might have been split up..were there only two at this location? He wasn't sure but the brown didn't seem to be going after any others.

Behind him Plexith landed with a Wherry in his claws, dropping his kill on the ground. 'It will need to be cut for them' The bronze stated anger in his voice that D'lin knew came from the greens parting words..thankfully Plexith had kept his mind on his task and ignored the greens pointless parting word. The enemy could threaten..but they had the eggs and that is all that mattered right now. With the candidates lined up and one hatchling already on the ground D'lin pulled his riders knife, it wasn't ideal for such a task but it was all he had on him and turning he put himself to the gruesome but necessary task of skinning and butchering the dead Wherry that Plexith had brought them so far. He wasn't particularly skilled at the task nor did he enjoy it but it had to be done and he doubted the hatchlings would mind if their steaks weren't perfectly cut.

Thrarothar

Ok the wing over the egg was kinda cute. Thrarothar wished he'd hurry up and Impress to him though. Then he heard others behind him. A glance told him it was Muburine with the other candidate and brown rider that had wandered away. Good, the boy would be here to witness his triumph!

Any second now. He waited. And waited. The dragon suddenly bugled as the others got near. Thrarothar somehow felt that call wasn't for him. His eyes followed the dragonet's gaze as he Impressed to..... To Muburine?!?!?!? That wasn't possible! The younger and taller boy had Impressed to a brown before he had?! Thrarothar fumed and sent a glare to his rival. That just the left the Still Thinking Egg which he hadn't bothered to give any time to at the Touching. It didn't look like he'd Impress this round. He didn't hold much hope for the other egg.

Muburine

The tall candidate moved into line with the others. This was what they were here for after all. Barely a moment had he to wonder who the brown would pick. No longer would he be alone as a voice greeted him. He didn't see the look Thrarothar shot him.

His eyes filled with joy echoed in Belith's whirling green eyes. He, he had Impressed to the most wonderful dragon. Without hesitation Muburine left the candidate line to walk up to the brown. His beautiful brown. He rested his hand on Belith's shoulder.

"I am glad I found you too." Now he looked up at those around. "His name is Belith and he's hungry. Oh." They were on top of it he saw. The bronze had returned with a wherry. "No you were, we all were suppose to be on the Sands at Trine. That's ok. It all worked out didn't it? Yes the riders have brought food for you two. Come lets move away so your sibling can hatch and pick theirs." He smiled at the friendly brown and lead him over to D'lin and his wherry.

"Thank you sir and Plexith for getting that. I can finish cutting it," he offered. A bronzerider really shouldn't do that. As a baker he was use to it.

Soral followed his younger friend and the rider to the group. He looked about before spotting the little dragon.

Before he could say anything, the hatchling called out and his fellow candidate, Muburine, spoke for the baby dragon. Soral was somewhat overjoyed. But he gave pause, what would happen to the sibling egg watched over by the brown?

"Do you think the other one is okay?" he whispered softly, looking to the rider he'd come along with.

Hatteth hummed his congratulations when the brown found his. And so quickly! No unnecessary fooling around or searching. He only waited long enough to rescue the other egg. He liked this hatchling. He is good. Hyweth will be pleased. We will have to tell her all about him, Hatteth told J'nes.

Yes, and J'len, J'nes agreed. It was a shame that they hadn't been able to see the brown hatch, but they'd found the eggs without running into a single thief. The thieves had run off on a dragon too, and their empty threats only served to confirm that they were from the Revolution. The eggs were fine and found, one had Impressed with no trouble, and they would be able to see the other hatch. They'd come out the better of this little escapade, that was certain. He just hoped the other groups were as successful in reclaiming their eggs.

He was broken out of his reverie by a question from one of the Candidates he'd been leading. "I'm sure it's fine. The brown - I mean Belith," he corrected himself, since they'd been informed of the hatchling's name, "seems concerned enough for its well-being to bring the egg out, but showed no worry beyond that. It looks unharmed, and Belith had the same treatment but hatched just fine." He cast another glance over the smaller egg and added, "And if it turns out to not hatch after a while, it may be an atypical. Now that we know where it is, we could help it break out of its shell if needed."

"I bet that's a big part of it. Which... I can't really blame him for." Narisa admitted. She was well aware of how... difficult dragons could be! Cepheith could challenge her willpower at times. "Still... " Later. They'd deal with it later. Right now, they had their own worries. "It's worth a shot. And you may be right. I can't think of anywhere else that would be warm enough up here for the eggs." There were aspects of being in this sharding mist that reminded her too much of returning to Trine and finding it in chaos and smoke rising from their home. But she couldn't afford to let herself get lost in those emotions. Not when she needed her wits about her and a strong mind.

You always have them about you.

Riiight. Narisa was pretty sure that the two of them actually being here was a prime example of not having her mind about her!

The Gold paused in her prowling, changing direction slightly to stalk towards the area Plexith headed. She rumbled softly, sending an image of her being crouched down and ready for the wherries. They wouldn't be quite as much fun to torment, but digging mini crevices in the dirt wasn't cutting it for her frustration! I am ready when you are, Plexith. Cepheith mantled her wings, slowing and lowering herself to the ground, eyes whirling red. And she wasted no time in picking off several fat wherries for the little ones to come.

Narisa frowned, considering D'lin's question. But before she could manage to formulate an answer, the cry of a hatchling made her entire body freeze and her heart skip a beat. Thankfully she had D'lin there to help and he snapped out of his surprise quicker than she. She took up the back, ushering Candidates along quickly as they came upon the little brown.

As if the sudden voice and roar from the Green hadn't been enough to startle her - and boy did Narisa get a good foot or so off the ground with that! - but Cepheith's bellow of rage made the Goldrider wince. Faranth she did not need a raging Queen here and now! Cepheith! She snapped, eyes widening slightly at the way the brown hatchling jumped. Shellit, we can't startle the hatchlings! Calm yourself and bring what you've caught.

Eyes crimson, the Gold snarled and landed heavily with a wherry in each front paw and one in her mouth. She set them down next to the catch Plexith had brought before backing away to sit and grumble. They will not get away so easily next time. She promised furiously. However the sight of the young one softened Cepheith's anger and she crooned encouragingly to him.

"D'lin. J'nes. I'll leave you two in charge of the Candidates. I can assist the newly Impressed." She gave a kind smile to Muburine and Belith. Stepping towards the new weyrling pair, Narisa laid a gentle hand on the boy's shoulder. "Congratulations. Make sure you cut the meat into small pieces. We don't want... Belith to choke."

Becka looked left and right, noticing the dragon bringing the wherry "Um.... Bronzerider... i think that the meat should be kept well away from that unhatched egg... " she blushed, she was addressing a BRONZE Rider, "er.. well i mean... well... we don't want the next baby to smell the meat and go for that instead of finding Theirs" she added in a lower voice to D'lin.

D'lin & Plexith
Tag, Narisa,Cepheith, Muburine & Becka

D'lin glanced up at the angry raging gold as she settled beside Plexith to deposit the wherries she'd caught, he could understand her frustrations - he too wanted nothing more then to get his hands on some of the traitors, but they had the eggs and for today that meant they had won. At least the hatchlings presence seemed to settle her somewhat.

Plexith offered his own encouragement to the little brown, crooning a soft reassurance before turning to bump his head softly against Cepheith's shoulder. 'They only bellow because they lost' He told the gold smugly 'And it is but the beginning of many losses' He continued. The bronze was sure that this would be the case. The traitors had surprised them but it would not happen again.

Smiling at the new Weyrling and his brown D'lin handed him the knife, as candidates generally weren't allowed to carry such things then he assumed the boy didn't have one. "Here you go, I don't mind - I'm just rather terrible at it." He stated with an apologetic chuckle " Congratulations...Belith is a fine brown. As Narisa says..make sure the pieces are small" With a parting clap on the shoulder he nodded to Narisa, leaving her to keep an eye on the new weyrling and hatchling before turning his attention back to the candidates. Before he could get very far however he found himself interrupted by another youth. He was fairly certain she was a healer? Hadn't he seen her in the healers tents before..he was sure he had and having spent more then his fair share there lately he knew most of the healers by sight if nothing else. Reminded of his time with the healers gave him the urge to scratch at his still healing wounds but he resisted. "I don't think it will, they always go for the candidates even with the meat tables close by on the sands, but we'll keep the candidates between the egg and the meat just in case." He assured her before lowering his voice slightly. "Your a healer right? I'm actually more worried about this dampness, they won't dry out here in all this mist the way they do on the sands...and while it's warm enough here we certainly won't be able to take them between still damp, they'll take chill for sure." He wasn't sure if there were other health issues they ought to be worried about - dragons were typically good sturdy beasts but newly hatched they were probably more vulnerable then at most times in their lives and glancing towards the still egg still with them he fretted that it might be an atypical, the weaker hatchling would almost certainly suffer in these conditions if that were the case.

As the happy new pair moved off together to feed the Still Thinking egg started to list slowly to one side... and fell over. It remained motionless on its side for some moments; had the theft killed the dragon inside?...

Tap.

Apparently not; a few little cracks appeared in the bottom of blue striped shell.

Tap. Tap.

Several more.

Tap.

The bottom of the egg was a network of cracks now and, after another few moments of stillness a head poked out. This was surprising not because the dragonet had made it out of its shell but because the miz-sized Still Thinking contained not a blue, nor a little brown, but a green! Untroubled by still being mostly inside her egg she looked around at the strange world before her.

Humm.

This was odd.

Oh well.

The enormous green yawned and drew her head back inside the shell, but only so that she could press it against the top of the egg and her feet against the bottom. The shell gave an almighty crack and broke into several large pieces. Still Thinking shook a few pieces off herself and rumbled deep in her chest; a placid greeting to all of those there to see her hatch.

Hatteth hummed with renewed vigor as the second egg cracked, then broke open to reveal a large green. A fine, big, healthy green, who didn't seem the least bit harmed by her rough treatment. He rumbled a greeting back at her and continued humming.

J'nes grinned as the young green emerged and said to Soral, "There, you see? She's perfectly fine." Then he took a couple steps back to make sure the Candidate was closer to the hatchling. This was the time for the Candidates after all, and his job was to make sure the hatchling could find them easily.

Cepheith huffed, tail thrashing still behind her. A rumble greeted the soft nudging of her shoulder, but Plexith's smug tone oddly settled her more. ... You're right. We did win today. And will come out victorious every time. She stated firmly. They had to be victorious. To protect their home and the younger generations.

Smiling, Narisa gave the new pair some space to pick a wherry and cut portions off. "I am sincerely sorry that this is the way you both must spend your first feeding." She added quietly. And had her attention snagged by the second hatchling that finally emerged from its egg. Blinking, Narisa couldn't help the smile that spread along her lips. Now that was one big Green! And she looked to be alright, not having suffered any trauma from her egg being moved.

Suunath and Hyweth will be pleased. The eggs are hatching just fine. Cepheith murmured to Plexith. The Gold just hoped the other groups were having the same success.

Becka nodded when the Bronzerider replied, "Good idea sir" she paused "Perhaps send someone back to the Weyr to fetch Drying cloths and get the babies up and out of the mist to be dried off first?" she suggested, she didn't know if it was a good idea or not, she'd only been learning human Healing so far, Dragonhealing would come later so she wasn't sure. Bereck would know but he was back at Trine .... A thought occurred to her then... if THESE Eggs were hatching, were the eggs on the Sands also hatching or were these hatching early because of their situation. She'd find out when they got back to the Weyr.

She blinked when the other egg cracked, rubbing her eyes to make sure she wasn't seeing things. Nope.. that was a huge Green. She knew these were the eggs from Hyweth's clutch, she remembered them. She wondered how the eggs from the Gold's clutch were doing, her being such a small Gold it would have been interesting to see what size her hatchlings were.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 16, 2012 10:43 am

Still Thinking padded forward slowly, giving another deep rumble as she looked around. What a strange place... but these people were not strange so that was quite alright. Her slow steps and the way she had broken out of her shell showed that she was not the sort of rush anything but she had been Thinking hard since the Touching and already knew where she was going.
