Melvin had went to another portal when Jerry hummed away, and returned dusting off baby powder when he looked up to see Jerry in a worse state though still humming. "Um, how about we call it a break for now. Take 5...and a shower." To which he made a point to look at Jerry.
"I'll go check out the portal rotations in this area and see what they know one more time. We'll meet back here in.." He checked his watch. "Hour and half?"

"Sounds like a plan." Jerry smiled weakly. Just the memory of that tune... he had to hear it again. They portaled home, and went their separate ways. Jerry hadn't showered this often in months- it was refreshing, though. He was a man on a mission. It was like there was a song stuck in his head, the most beautiful song he had ever heard except he couldn't remember how it went.He needed to hear it again. Melvin had done his further research, for what good it would do them, and they were back to portal hopping. It went as usual, until suddenly, Jerry caught sight of jungle and ruins and in a tight, mesmerized whisper, he hissed, "MELVIN. THIS ONE." And promptly dragged the man in after him. His Muse was guiding him this time. He could feel it. All rolls at once: POWER SEARCH AND THEN THEY WENT FORTH

ATTEMPT # 5? IDK I LOST COUNT.
Jerry had only given the quest a break for a few days while he... recovered. Once his humanity had returned again, his coffee had once again been replaced by his flask, but he couldn't shake that voice from his head.
She was out there with answers. He wanted to know what she looked like. She haunted his dreams, singing out in words he didn't understand, that twisted his body and muddled his mind... She was challenging him.
Was he man enough to find her?
He made paste of her guards, he had drifted easily through her maze, but still she refused to show herself.
He'd show her. This time, they would meet. Face to face.
It was an odd hour when he lurched into the library, rounding up Melvin again to drag him back to the dark and rickety forest.
Having a goal kept him focused. They went their separate ways to divide the ground up, hoping to work faster this time.
It worked.
He let out the signal howl, and waited.

Melvin had been interested at first, doubtful after, and was now just straight out pissed. He had done SO much research, had BEEN on the island, and favor was on Jerry's side and never on his. Why couldn't he just SEE the ruin, hear this voice, and get SOMETHING to feel accomplished. He was on a mystical island and each time he wound up being stupid, lost, and passing out to wake up as a minipet.
He had tore through all his research, asked techs and even portal techs for anything, and was, despite as many times as he wanted to say ******** It, still in the library when he had the time off.
When Jerry dragged him there, he sighed but was following. Luckily, they managed to find a way in again, and Melvin followed through. He better get farther than the woods this time around!!

Try number 8ish neutral
Jerry and Melvin had gotten really good at finding the portal. This time it only took about twenty minutes of grueling terror and awkward embarrassment. The denizens of Halloween were almost starting to get used to the appearances of the hunters.
Almost.
