Finally they’d gotten clear enough that Toreth let down his guard a bit more. “I think we might be alright now,” he said, throwing another glance back over his shoulders. Herds would be disinclined to attack two predators when it was obvious they were heading away from the herds and not stalking them, especially when they were also heading out of the lands were such prime grazing was.
He gave Kepi another curious look. “How far do you intend to go?” He chuckled. “I eventually have to make my way back to find my brother, he must be wondering if I fell into the river and got eaten by a crocodile at this point.”

She looked back at the group of animals again and nodded in agreement. Their presence still weighed heavily at the back of her head but every little shuffling movement wasn’t digging on her nerves any more. “I agree with you there. Quite an interesting occasion” She laughed although it mostly came out as a snort. “Bet you didn’t expect that when you woke up this morning”
“Want me to see if any of the other scouts have come across him?” She asked, she wondered why she was offering to help but then again even if she tried to be a grump she often found herself just doing these sorts of things. “As for me, I don’t know. I didn’t really have much planned for the day, although I guess I should head back to the heart of kemet when evening hits.”

Toreth shook his head at Kepi’s offer. “If he’s not there when I get back, he’ll probably have been found by your scouts and whisked off somewhere, and I’ll be able to smell that. Kaleth’s not one for wandering around on his own. Well-,” he amended, “-at least not wandering off through landscapes. That temple of yours we were just in, now, you’d have to keep an eye on him at all times.”
He gave Kepi a curious glance. He couldn’t have said why, since the two hadn’t really exchanged a ton of words of any sort of personal nature, but there was something about the female he found interesting. He wanted to explore this interest and find out more about the vixen, learn what kind of person she was. “Well the animals took up most of the morning, but there’s still some of the afternoon before you’d have to head back,” he started. “Maybe you’d like to hang out more? Show me some things that are good to know when wandering the desert, share pointers and stuff like that?”

“I guess that’s true there are a lot of foxes in kemet” Kepi started omitting the part where a good chunk of them where related to her. “So he’s probably fine and at least some one has met up with him.” Once again probably one of her own family members since a lot of them where scouts or tended to roam around kemet a lot. “Well you wouldn’t have to worry about that, when the humans built them they put in all sorts of traps, so we carefully watch any outsider that we bring in. “ Kepi looked at him and tilted her head to the side. She figured she had probably turned the male off so the request for hanging out took her at least by surprise. Well he wasn’t annoying and she wouldn’t have to worry about constantly watching him like she would Kateri or another one of her siblings. She also didn’t really hang out so it would definitely please her mother. Then again she really didn’t care too much about that, if she didn’t want to hang out with someone she didn’t. She looked at Toreth before making her decision. “Sure I don’t mind, I’d hate to come back and see you all shriveled up on the ground because I didn’t give said pointers” she teased, not like she thought she would find him in such a position.

Toreth snorted and tried to look as manly as he was capable of. “I don’t think I’m so bad at surviving here that I’d just shrivel up and die! We’re close to water after all, and Kaleth and I haven’t wandered so far into the desert that oasis’ take skill to find. I think it’s more likely that if I did die out here, it’s cause I’d be taken by surprise by an antelope attack or something like that.”
Somehow his manly posture remained unaffected as he talked about death by herbivore, and though it should have made him look ridiculous he still managed to give off confidence and a good sense of humor. That was his gift, his brother told him; the prince and the jester sharing the same body, and somehow his regal bearing always managed to keep him from looking the fool. Totally unfair, and Kaleth often said that one day someone was going to be able to see past the prince to the jester and deflate that large ego of his.

Kepi tilted her head to the side like she was truly pondering his first statement, even though she was just joking. “You know it’s funny you say that, that’s just what my mother said before she almost bit the dust and died of dehydration only to be saved again by my father. All joking aside though, you did pick the wrong time of year to come said antelope are more numerous and the bigger predators have moved in.” she commented back in an almost teasing like manner, well teasing for Kepi at least. “Oh there is also the possibility of death by crocodile, that’s actually more likely to get you if you keep to oases, crocodiles do occasionally venture into those as well.” Kepi said with a smile. Normally everywhere else in the world Oases were a safe place but then again the rest of the world didn’t have an insane only slightly good modeity who was often at war with the other two reigning modeities. It was not a friendly place to be if you were an outsider and not prepared to face the craziness that was often kemet land.

Toreth didn’t exactly pout, but Kepi’s words did deflate him just a little bit. “Wonderful.” He sighed. “You know, whatever Deity created this part of the world, it’s like crocodiles were some delightful trick. Here we are in this huge track of dryness, and underneath the murky, life-giving water lies predators just waiting to gobble you up!” He shook his head sadly, though the emotion was feigned and mostly for dramatic effect.
Seriously though, what the heck was up with all the things that loved to lurk in the water and kill for profit and pleasure?
“Well, oh lovely princess of the desert, container of knowledge and giver of survival lessons….any clue where you want to head next?” Toreth didn’t exactly have a destination in mind except “back to Kaleth at some point”, and Kepi did say she’d be willing to part with a few tips and pointers to help him out.

“hmm well closer upwards and towards the river we actually have lots of types of greenery. It used to be a lot more but our three modeities ended up duking it out. Supposedly, you would have to ask my uncle or my grandfather if you want all the mythology and stuff.” Kepi replied, however it wasn’t entirely true, even though she had no real love for the subject she did like listening to Akori and Kaname’s stories and knew a fair amount about the tribe. “The crocodiles you could probably thank our dear chaos god Seth, it sounds like one of the things he would create” Kepi mused. She raised an eyebrow at the corny flattery before thinking about it. “Well we both have rather dark coats, and the sun does take its toll, I guess find some shade. She frowned and then titled her head to the side. “if you want to come with I apparently have to eventually check out an area for damage or a possible sand storm brewing”

Toreth shrugged, but continued to follow Kepi. “Might as well. Kaleth’s a big boy, he can look after himself for a day. Long as I get back before the sky goes dark so he doesn’t think I’d dead. That’s happened a couple times, then I nearly did die when my “super worried for my safety” brother turns into the “I’m going to kill you for making me worry” brother.”
Toreth chuckled, the affection for his sibling evident in his voice.
“Anyway, if we spot something off you can show me what to look out for and then I’ll have first-hand knowledge of what does and does not belong out here, and how to spot it when it shows up. Sandstorms, for one thing. My brother and I spotted one off in the distance and had just enough time to scramble for shelter. Being able to spot them any earlier would definitely be a help.”

‘Ugh I know that feeling, only with me its my mother, and my oldest brother… scratch that youngest sibling and only brother, my dad has it occasionally but he was the same terror younger in his life apparently that he just goes from normal to “I’m going to kill you for that stunt” Kepi mused looking around for some shade to head to. It was almost best to go from shade to shade. She almost gave him a disbelieving look, did he really venture into the desert that unprepared? Especially Kemet’s desert? Well she supposed lots of foxes did it if half of her families mates did it at one time. “How to spot sand storms before they turn into a world of trouble, well I cant teach you my method because as a Scout for a tribe I get apparently super powers… yay…” Kepi trailed off sarcastically. “However we do know a few methods that I could teach you. Also considering the time of year if there is the potential for a sand storm, its also probably magic based as well.”

Toreth shrugged. He knew about the potential for highly enhanced abilities foxes had that blossomed forth when they took specific roles in a tribe. His brother liked trying to theorize the whys and hows of it, but all Toreth wanted was hard facts, not speculation, so he didn’t share his brother’s curiosity in the matter.
Toreth doubted any tribe relied on magic though. You couldn’t take some meek and mousy and zap them into a super scout. It seemed like one needed the potential for such things first, then taking on the official role just sort of enhanced things a bit. If he doubted that a tribe would rely solely on magic, he severely doubted that Kepi would venture into a dangerous desert with only a single arrow in her quiver.
“Whatever you might be able to teach is fine. Even if it’s something I cannot replicate, I might find a way to adapt it into a method I can use. If not, there’s nothing not worth learning about.” He raised an eyebrow, corner of his mouth lifting into a wry smile.

Then again Kemet was a tricky desert and if you were meant to be traveling through it for some purpose you just found yourself traveling through it, whether or not how prepared you were. After all if you got that close to tribe lands, the deities where probably going to send someone to meet you. Finding another oasis with some reliable shade she figured that would be a good place to start and figure out what he all knew about scouting. She didn’t want to waste her time teaching him something he already knew. He promised not to be a boring or annoying student. Deities knew how often Kepi just wanted to strangle Kateri for not getting something. However she supposed that could have just been the fact that Kateri was her sister and not Kateri’s ability to be a student. “fine with me. I figure we can go over there and you can tell me what you know so I can figure out the best teaching plan I guess” Kepi suggested pointing over towards the said oasis, she let out a small smile back.

"Are you going to try to figure out everything I know," Toreth asked with wicked good humor in his voice and a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "Because that might just take us a while. Not that I'd begrudge you the time at all, pretty lady, but we've both got things to do."
There was a definite feeling of relief as they entered the shade of the oasis. Mindful of what Kepi had said about crocodiles, he sat so that he could keep an eye on the water. He also made sure there were no unwanted surprises where he was sitting. Snakes he was used to from back home, but the scorpions had been something of an unpleasant surprise.

“Well what if I am” Kepi stated in a different tone than normal and then let out a small laugh before shaking her head. “No but it never really hurts to get at least a brief understanding of what you know. After all we do both have to be somewhere eventually and we don’t want to blow it doing things you already know” “If you want to use that water at all its safe” Kepi told him before sending out a small pulse to double check. Yep they were the only predators in the area. She quickly took a drink of water, while she was only mildly thirsty it was better to drink while you could just in case she got stranded due to a freak sand storm with no way to water. Drinking here was also quite safer than the Iteru.

Toreth bent over the water alongside Kepi and began lapping at it. He too wasn't very thirsty, but you didn't travel your whole life to know you drank when water was there because there was no telling when you'd next run across some. The same was true even in forests. There weren't lakes and rivers everywhere, and unless you were familiar with the area you had to hunt down all the small brooks and springs.
Main difference was forests were shaded and usually moist. Out here the sun beat down on you and snatched up every bit of moisture silly enough to be exposed.
He drank the water slowly since they had the luxury of time, so that he didn't overfill him. Water cramps were just the worst, and were not a good way to impress a woman who was clearly quite competent.
"So then, rose of the desert, just where in my skills would you like to start probing," Toreth asked, raising an eyebrow and smiling wickedly while he stretched, ready for a walk in the desert and some interesting lessons.
((I think your post is the last one for this roleplay. Whatcha think of these two? Need another roleplay to be sure, or you got a good idea?))
