Becca was astonished at hearing the story of their family. “Wow, that’s amazing..” “I have an elder sister actually.. she’s traveling to Coria too.” She giggled at Toby’s response to his sister. “ So, I’m still confused about what’s going on.” “Why is he in trouble?” Becca was bewildered.
All of a sudden a wild, tympole hopped across the route in front of them. It looked angry for some odd reason. Becca walked over to it. “Are you okay little guy?” The Taddploe Pokemon shot bubbles at her. “Tymmm!” It growled. “Sew! Sew! Wadddle!” Chic growled back at it and used string shot and then a full force tackle. The tympole scurried off. “Oh thank you Chic.” Becca hugged the Pokemon. She had gotten a abrasion on her leg from the bubble attack. She grabbed her leg. She winched in pain. Sewaddle crawled over to her. "Seww..." She was concerned about her trainer.

  Kadaj pondered for a moment, thinking about whether or not he should actually stop talking about himself. “Nah, otherwise I wouldn’t know if you were being upset about something or not.” Kadaj laughed and moved closer towards the edge of the village. It’d been taking some time to get to where they were now, but ultimately Kadaj knew that it was probably because Chad was having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that they were leaving and ultimately moving on with their lives.
“I’ll try to stop, I mean, no probably not. There’s no way I could stop reminding you that I look good.” Kadaj turned to Poochyena who was still a bit gloomy. There was definitely something wrong with him in terms of just his past and things of the sort. Honestly though, it was a bit alleviating to Kadaj to know that there might be attractive, or at least relatively attractive people out there who still had problems of their own. The only problem that Kadaj really had though was that he had a rough childhood. However, he didn’t want to let that bother him now, so he decided to just ignore it for the time being.
Kadaj walked down the road and let out a sigh before turning to Poochyena and pulling out a Poke-ball, “Return little dude, we’re about to go into the route and I don’t want you getting attacked.” With that, Poochyena went back into its ball in a blur of red light that consumed it rather quickly.

Chad shrugged as though he couldn’t think of an obvious reason as to why that wouldn’t work. Mainly because there was nothing logical about Kadaj’s reasoning at this point. “If you say so…” Chad stepped up to the exit of town only to see that there would be nothing but shrubbery and trees in the upcoming adventure. It seemed like routes weren’t exactly laid out and obvious for everyone to comprehend. Although, that would probably be a good thing since there would be no point in adventuring if everything was laid out for you. “Well here we are, the end of town. Kind of makes me a bit worried, but it is what it is. I think I’m going to try and catch myself a Pokémon and train up for the gym we’re going to. What about you Kadaj?” By the time Chad asked, he was already walking through the dirt path that separated the town from the route.
Once he was in the route, Chad decided to hit bushes and things of the sort, trying to scare out Pokémon so that he could fight them. “How about this, the first Pokémon we both find will be the one that we catch? Maybe it could be like our souvenir for starting out our journey and leaving town. Who knows, it might be a good one.” Chad smiled but kept his eagerness to himself as he wacked different kinds of trees, hoping that Pokémon would fall out and leave themselves open to being caught.

Kadaj was more than excited to get this journey on the road. He knew that it’d taken a bit of time to get out of town, but now that they were en route to Vormund City, maybe some things would pick up and everything didn’t seem like it was revolving around Chad. Some fresh air was definitely doing Kadaj good at this point because when he was in the orphanage, he always spent his time outside, not really liking being cramped up inside of a small facility. “Alright then, we can take you up on that deal. I guess getting another Pokémon wouldn’t be too much of a problem for Poochyena since he kind of seems down in the dumps about things lately.” Kadaj rolled his neck, allowing it to pop in several places before taking on a tree opposite of the one Chad was looking around.
If Kadaj found a wild Pokémon first, then that would mean that he would be the winner of the unsung challenge that Kadaj had decided to have with Chad. He now needed a reason to feel like he was better and because of that, Kadaj was shaking and violating more trees than Chad had by this point. “Come out, come out wherever you are Pokémon! My little dude and me want to play!” Kadaj grinned smugly as he shook about trees, trying to force some Pokémon to come out of it, although to be honest he didn’t have any idea how to get the Pokémon to reveal themselves. “It’s always a lot easier when actually don’t want to find Pokémon.” Kadaj let out a sigh and turned to Chad to see how he was fairing.

As Chad kicked the tree and waited for Pokémon to fall out, he felt a cold trail run across his back. It was almost as if someone had splashed water on his back, but when he touched it, his back was dry. “What the?” Chad turned around to see a Smeargle staring directly at his face from only a few inches away.
Chad let out a sharp startled cry and took several steps back, causing him to collide with the tree. “Smear! Smear!” The Smeargle began to laugh at Chad who was now growing relatively angered by the Pokémon’s startling appearance. “Alright, you want to be that way, go Nincada!” Chad threw his Pokeball and his Nincada emerged, ready for battle. “Smear!?” The Smeargle squinted its eyes as it watched Nincada for a moment and took a pose similar to a cowboy about to have a showdown. “Use Scratch!” Nincada leapt at Smeargle and scratched it with all its might.
It appeared to be a direct hit because Smeargle took several steps backwards and seemed very startled by the incident that just played out. “Sm-Smeargle!” The Smeargle twirled its tail around in the air and the green paint on it turned into a gray color before lashing out against Nincada with what seemed to be an imitation of the scratch attack. “What!? Did it just use scratch against my Nincada!? Use Leech life Nincada!” Nincada nodded, slightly worried but still functional.
The Nincada bit into the Smeargle and began to absorb its life, causing the Smeargle to faint in exhaustion. “Erm, I guess this is the Pokémon for me? Go, pokeball!”
Chad threw a Pokeball at the Smeargle, it was one of the three his professor had supplied for him to catch his very first Pokémon.

Chad sighed as the Smeargle burst out. Things were getting a bit more complicated than he had intended. “Alright then, let’s do this Nincada!” Nincada nodded and launched itself at the Smeargle, preparing another scratch attack.
The Smeargle tried to jump out of the way, but its speed wasn’t as up to par as Nincada’s by this point so it felt the sting of Nincada’s scratch attack. “Smeeear!” The Smeargle jumped into the air, panting heavily as it did so, and swung its tail down while it glowed a dim gray, probably because it was performing a scratch attack of its own. “Quick Nincada, use harden!” Nincada nodded and his body became hard the moment Smeargle scratched it. “Now let’s finish this! Use another scratch attack!” Nincada nodded and scratched upwards, causing the Smeargle to fall back into a tree before slumping to the ground almost as though it were fainted again. However, this time Chad didn’t want to get tricked into thinking it was done, so he watched the Pokémon for a moment before deciding it was safe to throw another Pokeball at it in the hopes of catching it! “Go pokeball!” Chad tossed the pokeball and watched as the Smeargle flew inside of it in a blur of red light.
The only thing Chad could do at this point was watch and wait. He didn’t think that the Smeargle was too strong compared to the damage it was giving Nincada and its speed compared as well, so he thought that maybe this time the Pokeball would work.

Watching Chad catch his Pokémon was rather exciting. Now Kadaj really knew he needed to pick up the pace and get a Pokémon even better than a Smeargle. Kadaj circled the tree and peered up into its branches but it was no use, it didn’t seem like there was a Pokémon to be found at all at this rate. “Tch, freaking hell!” Kadaj kicked the bushes, and as he did so, a startled Torchic rolled out of them.
The Torchic frantically looked around every which way trying to figure out what did this. Before it could spot Kadaj, Kadaj launched his Poke-ball causing his Poochyena to come out. “Let’s do this Poochyena! Use your howl!” The Poochyena exhaled, but followed his orders none-the-less.
Poochyena let out a sharp howl that increased its attack. It was at this time that the Torchic noticed Poochyena and began to charge at it with a scratch attack. “We can top that, use your tackle and collide with the Torchid in a head-on assault!” Poochyena nodded and began to run as quickly as it could towards the Torchic. Once they were very close to each other, Poochyena jumped and threw its body into the Torchic who hadn’t been expecting that skill, so it was thrown to the ground in a big heap. “Now quick, one more tackle before it gets up.” Poochyena nodded and hit the Torchic one more time, sending it soaring into a tree.
With that done, Kadaj threw an empty Poke-ball at the Torchic and waited to see if it would work.

Once the Pokeball stopped, Kadaj let out a sigh of relief. He then decided to go ahead and let his Pokémon out so that he could see the fruits of his labor. “Alright! I caught my Pokémon on the first try Chad! Keh-Heh, I guess the Torchic knows I’m good lookin’ and wanted to be with me.” Kadaj walked over to the Poke-ball that had stopped moving and summoned the Torchic from within its confines. “Hey, from now on, I think I’m going to give you a nickname Torchic. How about Pepper? They’re spicy and you are too! Keh-heh!” Kadaj turned to Chad and shrugged as though he honestly didn’t have another nickname in mind. “You should bring out your Smeargle so we can all get to know each other better. My crew’s already out here.”
Poochyena was leery eyed of Nincada who seemed to still be out of its Poke-ball. Luckily though, the only thing it seemed to be doing was staring with no intention of trying to pick a fight with the bug. Pepper, Kadaj’s Torchic, was staring at the Nincada and then to Chad, then to Kadaj, and finally to Poochyena, probably because it was trying to take in all the new allies it had just made. It would be a big adjustment for the timid Torchic, but it didn’t seem to be too bothered by it all. “Toor-chi!” Pepper smiled happily at the Poochyena, almost as though to signify that it had no ill feelings about the battle from earlier, to which Poochyena responded with a curt nod.

Chad couldn’t help but moan in relief when it seemed like Kadaj was able to catch his Pokémon on the first try in comparison to Chad’s twice to catch one. It was just a relief to see everything going over well, especially since Kadaj seemed like the kind of guy who made everything a competition, and Chad was sure that Kadaj would see the fact that he had won over Chad in terms of number of Pokeballs used as some sort of winning number. “Alright then; I can do that.”
Chad clicked a button on his Pokeball that contained his new Pokémon Smeargle and it instantly enlarged in his hands. He then tossed the ball into the air and in a blur of red light, his new Smeargle came out of the Pokeball and looked around before doing a spin as though it were painting a circle around itself. “Smee!” Smeargle waved to the Nincada that had beaten it and then to everyone else, making sure it introduced itself to all the Pokémon surrounding it. “So I think since you gave your Torchic a nick-name, I’ll do the same for my Smeargle.” Chad stared at his Smeargle for a moment as it talked to the Poochyena in a somewhat serious tone. That didn’t faze Chad though, he was more lost in thought for a nickname. “Um, how about Sketch?”
The Smeargle stood up and faced towards Chad before giving him a thumbs up, or at least that’s what I looked like considering it only had three fingers. “Okay, Sketch it is!” Chad laughed and turned to Kadaj before waiting for what his input was.

With the formalities of introducing the Pokémon out of the way, Kadaj held out his Poke-balls and withdrew the two of his Pokémon before turning to Chad with a look of anxiousness and sincerity, “I bet this is going to be a fun journey if we can keep this up.” Kadaj was referring to the way Chad was able to make everything fun and interesting, of course though, Kadaj knew that he was without a doubt attracted to Chad at this point. He’d been fighting it for the longest time, but even when he came up with the dorky nickname for Smeargle, Kadaj couldn’t help but feel like that was so sweet.
Kadaj knew he was getting himself into a mess at this point with Chad. If he kept this up, then he’d end up finding it hard not to just take in his scent. He didn’t know if that was a blessing or not. ‘Talk about falling hard and fast. But really, how many guys would even tolerate me for this long without walking out on me.’ Kadaj had always found himself as the type of guy who didn’t want a long lasting relationship, but with Chad and his all-man personality, Kadaj kind of wished that he could mark claim on the guy and take him back to his place for some fun. No, not fun, more like just being with him. They didn’t even have to do anything. “So do you know the way to the next town over? I’m kind of lost.” Kadaj smiled, revealing his beautiful teeth as he did so.

Chad withdrew his Pokémon a few seconds after Kadaj did and then he sat and waited for Kadaj to say something. Even though he may not have noticed it, Chad he caught Kadaj staring at him more often than not, what was that about? Was there something on his face that Kadaj was too modes to mention? That probably wasn’t the case, but Chad was beginning to get worried that something bad was about to happen that involved him in some sort of way. “I have a town map that can tell us our location so that we can get out of this route whenever we want to, but it’s already evening and the next town is a least several miles away.” Chad looked back to his town, which he could see because he was no standing on top of a large hill. It was at least a couple miles away, but at the same time, he didn’t want to walk all the way back. “How about we rest here for the night? I hope you brought a tent.” Chad smiled and decided to get off the hill and walk into a more covered part of the forest.
As he walked, he turned around and waved for Kadaj to follow him. “Come on, follow me. I think we’re just going to camp here for the night.” Chad walked through the forest until he was far enough off the beaten path that he was sure no one would find them in the middle of the night. He then turned to Kadaj and smiled.

As Kadaj watched and thought about everything going on, he decided that maybe he shouldn’t worry about too much of why he was admiring Chad. He wouldn’t try to convince Chad to do anything that he wasn’t comfortable with and he wouldn’t make any moves intentionally from now on. Yup, that was Kadaj’s word, now he just needed to see if he would stick with it. He did tend to stray from his word whenever he didn’t find it convenient of fitting to him any longer. “A town map? I don’t have anything like that. I couldn’t afford anything that could be too fancy to take on me for this journey. What I have in my bag is all I plan on keeping from that town.” Kadaj laughed, doing his best to avoid sympathy. “Don’t worry about me though, I’ll just jump right back into the grind of things if this doesn’t work out, but you know, I don’t really want to think about that right now.”
As Chad left, Kadaj followed, slightly intrigued by the prospect of getting to spend some time with him outside of the town. “Yeah, tent…” The truth was, Kadaj couldn’t afford a tent before he left. The closest thing he had to a tent was a tarp to keep rain off of him whenever he travelled. Even a sleeping bag was a bit too out of his range when he thought of everything he’d need.
When they reached the clearing where Chad seemed to think they would be staying, Kadaj decided to point to an open space. “I’ll get the fire going, you can set up your tent.”
