The sand could be removed no problem. Candace herself had gotten sand on that dress once, but that was a story for another day. She did look fairly surprised by just how weak the hit to her leg was, glad she had chosen to wear jeans when handling Mitsu instead of shorts or a skirt. Give it back, huh? Fine. She'd give it back. Under her own terms, not under the demands of this whiny brat.
As Mitsu tried to stand up Candace pushed on her shoulders to make her stay sitting on the ground. She was the boss here, not Mitsu. "Yes, yes. There's a lot of things I'd have love to have done differently even up to now. But you know what? When things don't go your way you deal with it." Any time Mitsu tried to stand up Candace forced her to sit down again. They were doing this her ******** way. She allowed Mitsu to grab the denim of her jeans, not at all concerned about her. Yes, Mitsu. Hold onto that fire in you. Keep up that spirit. Don't break, not entirely. Just crack a little bit, okay? Enough for Candace to fit through the spaces and get in there.
"I'll give it back to you or what? You? You're going to threaten me?!" Candace laughed. "You seriously think you have any room to threaten me?! Oh, that's cute. Okay, I'll give you back the necklace. Sure. I can do that. I'd be happy to! But you're going to listen to me before I do. You're going to pay attention. You're not going to tune me out, or talk over me, or whine or cry or protest in any way. Then, and only then, will I give you back this necklace. Do I make myself clear?" She waited for Mitsu's begrudging acceptance before she continued. This wasn't how she'd wanted this to go. This wasn't how Candace wanted things to end up. There were so many things she'd love to go back and change, so many things she wished could have gone a different way that was more in her favor. But Mitsu was making this more difficult than it needed to be.
"Did you ever stop to wonder why I took you? Why I didn't take Shun? I didn't even consider taking Shun for a second, you know. It was always you. Why? Because you're of more use to us. You're sweet, you're gentle, obedient, loyal. Not that any of that is showing through right now, but I know it's there. You have no friends or family here, that's true. That's good. Would you really want them here, Mitsu? Don't you think them being here would be a bad sign? We're not all bad here though. We're not these cruel, heartless monsters you probably make us out to be. The things we do, we do for a reason. I have been nice to you, I've done what you've asked, and for a damn good reason. I could easily hand you over to any of the lab techs or even the Doctor to become their newest little pet. Their lab rat. But no, I'm not going to do that, nor do I plan to do that if you cooperate with me." Her eyes narrowed. "Do you want to keep your friends away from here? Yes, right? You want them safe? It's really not you kids that concern us all that much. Really, I find you all annoying. You're whiny, entitled, and all you do is b***h b***h b***h. You haven't killed anyone, have you? You haven't sent any of your own to act as fodder, huh? Or tricked anyone else to take the hits for you, not caring if they get hurt.
"Now tell me, can't you think of anyone in Halloween who would do that? I can. I can think of an entire race that would do that. But you know what you can do? You can help us. You can tell us about them. You can become something greater, something that can protect your friends and your family from them. That is why I brought you here, because you'd be good for that. What do you think will happen if you say no? You're still not going back to Halloween. Either they would eliminate you or keep you in the labs for further study. You'd still be good for that. This place? It's an impenetrable fortress, protected by the strongest magic and technology in the world. Your friends can't get to you in here unless they themselves get captured, but even if that happened they'd be in the same situation you are in." Candace grabbed her by the arm and pulled her up to her feet. If Mitsu struggled she simply held tighter, nails biting into her skin in a clear warning for her to behave.
The woman turned, making Mitsu face the island. Before them stood the wall of Deus Ex Machina high up in its safe little nest on the cliff where no one could hurt it. "That is your home now, Mitsu. Get used to it."

Mitsu kept getting pushed down every time she tried to stand. She struggled against it until her rear finally hit the sand one last time, her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. Bracing herself with her hands she tried to keep herself from completely collapsing growling at Candace as she spoke to her.
Her words were once again belittled and Mitsu could feel it chipping away little by little at her confidence in escaping. When it was made clear HOW she could get the necklace back she reluctantly went quiet, her ears folding back as she looked Candace in the face trying with all her might to defy her. But...it was the gift from Shun that had her looking away and reluctantly agreeing. "Fine..."
"I'm a monster.." Mitsu tried to keep her tone even though her words were still spiteful. "You're something else, something worse." She shut up at the mention of being used as a lab rat though, a strange chill running down her spine. She even began to shake a little, fighting to keep her composure. That was until Candace asked a simple question.
You haven't killed anyone, have you?
Mitsu fell silent as Candace continued on, a since of guilt hitting her. Perhaps it looked like Candace's words were starting to break through, either way Mitsu was quiet, hissing as the Hunter pulled her to her feet rather roughly, her nails biting into her arm. She glared back but said nothing. Mitsu wanted her necklace back and didn't want to jeopardize leaving it in the Hunter's hands.
Mitsu was forced to turn and look out over the island, a fortress all on its own. She really was trapped here wasn't she? That sinking feeling hit her even harder than before. This....was her home now. It wasn't too much to hope that she still might be rescued but with each passing day it seemed less and less likely. Even as she had called there had been no one...had they already deemed her a lost cause?

Good. Mitsu appeared to actually be listening for once. There was still hope, she could salvage this situation. She could mend it, she could still get what she wanted from this girl. Though as she called Candace something 'worse than a monster' she laughed. "Oh no. Not me, Mitsu. I know of someone much, much worse than any monster who has ever haunted a child's nightmares. I could never be him even if I tried." Shaking her head, Candace still watched Mitsu look upon Deus. She fell quiet, her head tilted to one side like a curious cat. That look in her eyes was certainly something magical; she was finally starting to come to terms with her situation.
Candace eased up on her arm, instead reaching into her pocket for the necklace. The pendant fell to the ground and Candace blinked. Wh...how...? It shouldn't have..
She bent down to pick up the pendant and checked the chain, making a small noise. "You have two options," Candace began, holding up the pendant and the broken chain for Mitsu to see. There was no repairing the chain, it would need to be completely replaced. "I can hold on to this and find a chain that I can put it on and it actually fits, or I can let you hold onto the pendant and guess at a chain that will fit." So far Candace had proven to be a woman of her word so far. She had brought Mitsu anything she asked for, she had brought her Meela to play with, she had brought her ways to clean herself up, she had left her friends untouched as soon as she had Mitsu...would Mitsu trust her this time? She was speaking more gently now, guiding Mitsu to begin walking back toward the path up the cliffside to Deus.
"I'll bring you a robe or something too so I can get the sand out of that dress. It's not hard, I've done it before." She shrugged, checking out the pendant where the chain would normally go through. Candace had a strong feeling Mitsu would want the pendant while she looked for a chain so she'd need to know how big or small the hole was before she lost it.

Mitsu stopped when Candace paused to pick up something seeing the pendant in her hand once again. She swallowed hard watching the item, hoping Candace wouldn't just chuck it out of spite. There was any number of places it could go and it could easily be lost in the sand. Even with her sense of smell it could easily be lost. She would be good, she wouldn't fight, she just needed the pendant back.
When she was presented with her options Mitsu almost hesitated like it was a trap before she slowly raised her hand. She hated to ask, especially to ask nicely, but she needed the pendant. "May I have the pendant..." There was a pause before she tilted her head considering. "Please.." It left a bitter taste in her mouth. She had promised Shun she would look after it though and she was willing to do what it took to get it back. It was a precious item that had belonged to his mother, she would regret dearly if she lost it.
"I promised I would look after it." She said before she reluctantly added. "I'll be good." The dress was of little concern to her at the moment but she gave Candace a slight nod of acknowledgement. Better to not press her luck while the Hunter still held onto her pendant.

The door clicked not a second later, a scruffy excuse of a Death hunter carrying a Runic laptop backing himself into the room. The two lab attendants immediately opened their mouth, uttering all sorts of protests that started from the word "What are you doing here?" to something like "Get out right now!" to anything in between until said Hunter held up a hand.
"Just so you know," He sniffled, haughtily, plugging in his laptop at the same time while readjusting it on the counter, "I didn't want to be here either. But it was either here or outside and sorry, I'm not going outside cuz there's like, moving stuff and look at my arms, have you seen arms like these? These arms of steel are just not meant for everyday use, can you imagine if I did that, that would mean like, I would totally wear myself out and stuff."
Mark was currently also talking to an empty room. Somewhere between "moving stuff" and "his arms of steel", both techs had fled. He shrugged, looked at the very empty cage, and occupied the newly vacated seat. An unfinished game of Huntercraft popped up. Hey, not his fault if nobody was around.OOC Mark is ICly in this room at any time, Candace/ anyone Candace invited/ Mitsu can also talk to him!

"You may." Candace said, taking a second to get one last look at the hole the chain would be going through before gently placing the pendant into Mitsu's waiting hand. See, Mitsu? See what civility gets you? Candace couldn't help but smile cruelly when it was clear Mitsu wasn't happy with saying please to the Hunter. Good girl. Ah, but she was looking after it, huh? Well then. Maybe another day...
It was a quiet trip back up to the facility and Candace escorted Mitsu back into her cell, making good on her promise to come back with a robe for her. However, upon returning she noticed there was someone else in the observation room. Candace arched a brow and tilted her head to one side as she stood in the doorway, watching Mark sit in her chair and play a stupid looking little game. Seriously? Mark? Why was Mark here?
She was silent as she walked up behind the man, watching his screen over his shoulder at first. Did Caelius send him? No, why would Caelius care? He had his own candidates to ******** around with. Was Mark looking for a private place? Go to your own ******** room for that, Mark.
Why was Mark here?
"...Is there a point to this game?" Candace suddenly asked, breaking the silence she had been keeping about herself. At least he wasn't jacking off again.

Mitsu had been shown back to her room, changed and left in a robe while the dress was being cleaned. In the meantime she held onto the pendant in her hands, grateful that Candace had handed it back over. It was such a relief to have it back, it was really the only thing she had here. Her fingers tracing along the edge of the orchid, Mitsu barely looked up when a new person entered the observation room. That was until she heard the commotion. Something about arms of steel? Brows furrowed she looked up and saw the Hunter with his laptop as the other two left. Was he just another watchman? Tech? Whatever they were. Whoever he was Candace seemed to recognize him when she showed up.

"Well," Mark elaborated, using his mouse to point at a particularily familiar structure on the screen, "You're supposed to rebuild the Main HQ but these weird fog things keep on coming up like, eating my stuff before I can even gather enough resources to make my own office. It's rigged man, the game is totally rigged." It remained a mystery as to why he was still playing it then.
The Death assistant didn't bother turning around. "Phew, it's like, 100 degrees outside, the AC is amazing in here, like, how are you even getting AC here anyway, after what happened with the piping and electricity?" He paid Mitsu no attention.

Candace listened quietly to his explanation, folding her arms across the back of the chair and watching the screen with curious interest. Rebuild the main HQ, huh? Sounded very familiar. "Huh...you're very persistent. Cute though, a game that reflects real life~. You'll get your office one day." She pat his head, grinning. At the comment on the AC, Candace looked up at the ceiling. He had a point. "I don't know. Magic? I didn't even notice, really. Maybe I just got really lucky? Is it that bad out there? I haven't really had much of a chance to survey outside except late at night." A pause. Suddenly it made sense. "That's why you're here? To escape the heat? Thank god holy s**t. I was scared for a second there." She shook her head and finally looked up from the screen to Mitsu in her cell, giving the wolf girl a warm smile. She waved, mouthing a 'hey!' to her.

Mitsu's ears swiveled forward, her head tilting as she listened to the two speak. What were they talking about? Mitsu hadn't noticed anything strange though she was so far underground nothing much went on down here. Rising from her bed she made her way over to the window, the only thing separating her from the two hunters, and pressed her hands against the glass. She made it no secret she was intently listening to the conversation, eyes darting between the two lingering on Candace as she offered her a little wave. Perhaps it was her extended time here, feeling lonely and with no one else but her fingers twitched slightly as if her body was trying to return the gesture. There was no exchange of words and no smile just a jerky motion of her hand against the glass before Mitsu looked away somewhat ashamed. " What's..happened?" More than likely she wasn't going to get an answer but she had noticed the staff seemed a little high strung as of late and Candace was rarely around. Was something big going on? Were...they having a party or had a party maybe?

"Wow, you think so?" Mark seemed extra excited at the thought of his own office in real life. "Do you think it would have like a chandelier, cuz I think a chandelier in my office would be so freaking cool. Oh, oh oh, what about okay, okay, imagine this-" He spread out one hand, pointing at some vague distance, -"In that corner of the wall, a life-sized poster of me as Tony Stark, and then everyone who comes into the office will have to like address me as 'Mark, the incredibly awesome genius overlord'. And maybe we could even have a sexy slave." A pause. "I can get a sexy slave if I had my own office right?"
Considering that he was leaning right next to the AC vent, Mark raised an eyebrow. "Why else would I be here? What are you doing here, if it involves being naked and being my sexy slave, I tell you, I will not submit to your womanly charms!" Another pause. "Well, maybe. But I didn't enjoy it... that much, and it was totally like, against my will!"

Oh wow. Mark was so excited. Candace watched with amusement as he started going on about what the man wanted in his office, sitting on the edge of the console and tilting her head to one side with a wide smile. It was kind of cute to watch...at least until he mentioned the sexy slave. Her smile fell and she rolled her eyes. "Maybe everything but the sexy slave part. That seems a bit unethical even by Hunter standards." To be honest it was kind of how she'd pictured H's office until she'd first seen it. A dungeon with some kind of slave chained to the wall. It wasn't but...still. ...Just no, Mark. "I don't know, most people leave this lab alone." Candace shrugged. "And you're Caelius' assistant. I was worried maybe that a*****e--ah...no..I'm not here to be naked or your sexy slave. That girl's my subject." She gestured to Mitsu, her brow furrowing with confusion as she watched Mark. Did he not know where the hell he was or something? "Anyway, I was worried you were sent by Caelius to ******** it up or something. Ah...if..there is anything to ******** up, I mean." She glanced Mitsu's way when the girl asked what had happened. Candace frowned. "Nothing, dearest. Don't worry, you just concentrate on getting better, okay? If you're good I'll take you on another walk along the beach. A more pleasant one this time."She looked away from Mitsu now, humming unhappily. She pressed a button and muted the speakers into the wolf girl's cell so all she would see would be the hunters chatting; she wouldn't hear them anymore. "Hey...Mark? I was wondering..if she tries to run away...is there a way to find her if she does? Like, you know..ah...Aria mentioned once on a mission something about tags?"

Mitsu was listening intently to the conversation. She frowned deeply at the mention of Caelius. The name as well as the hunter's face was familiar. It had been shared among the students, the Hunter with the scythe. He was extremely hard to forget.
When Candace regarded her again it was more like a parent regards a child, brushing her off without telling her anything and even going as far as silencing the mic that connected the rooms. For a short moment Mitsu tilted her head this way and that trying to listen but she was picking up nothing and she wasn't much of a lip reader.
Sighing she backed away from the glass and made her way slowly back to the bed where she sat down. It was eerie now with total silence. Mitsu thought it had been bad before with only the hum and bleeps from the tech that normally occupied the room. Now she felt truly alone, separated.
Her new home..
The words echoed through her head sending a shiver down her spine. Was this really how life was going to be? Or was there only a number of days before they did something with her and beyond that it would be too late?
Suddenly restless Mitsu rose unsteadily from the bed and made her way to the door. Would they come for her or had they deemed her a lost cause? The question echoed in her mind though she knew Shun wasn't likely to give up on her so easily. But what if something had happened to him? It would be her fault if it did. She had landed herself here for being too trusting.
Silently she regarded the Hunters in their little viewing room beyond the glass wall. Either chatting or conspiring she really had no idea and she was finding that she cared less and less.

It seemed Mark just noticed Mitsu for the first time, and only because Candace mentioned it. He coughed. "Oh yeah? How do you know? Of course I'm here for important duties... Important Death division duties. Deathly duties." His eyes entirely glazed over, the only noise from him the sound of the mouse clicking while farming items. "Well, prisoners have been tagged already, where were you during that debreifing whatever it was thing about interrogation whatnot, blahblah important things about prisoners here. Long story short, when you're done with your whatever project talk to a Life tech and they can schedule with you either their release back into the great sanctuary of the wild or I dunno, she would make a cute pet, I guess."
He squinted at Mitsu, then winked at Candace. "But I didn't know you swung this way. You know, cuz like, your subject is a werewolf and she's also a bitc-"
- Mark's cellphone began to buzz angrily, the assistant nearly dropping his laptop from its perch. "Yeah?" A cringe. "Uh yes sir, I am so busy, so very busy doing....stuff.... that......" A lightbulb went off. ".... Just helping out with the remaining prisoner. Oh yeah, they already did golem inspections uhhhhh what, hang on."
Mark covered the "reciever" of his cell. "Did you submit your surveillence reports yet?"

Yes, Mark. That sounds totally legit. 'Deathly duties.' Candace rolled her eyes, idly drumming her fingers on the edge of the console and watching him with a small frown. Wait..tagged already? But...she didn't recall..did they do it while she was out? She gave Mitsu a quick glance. "I was out. Getting her. Ah...okay. Well, I do have a goal with her but I'm starting to think it won't happen. At least she's been useful despite that but...she does make a cute pet, yes. Should see her as a puppy." A really, really big puppy bigger than a horse. Yes. A puppy. When Mark mentioned 'swinging' a certain way, Candace gave him an incredulous look. What? That made no ******** sense with with the context. What did being a werewolf have to do with anything? She opened her mouth to speak but closed it again as he answered his phone, waiting quietly. The hell? Er.. surveillance reports? Candace rubbed at the back of her neck and sighed. "I've been preoccupied, you know, following orders and doing my job. I've been writing notes and stuff though, so it won't take long to write a full out report.." She narrowed her eyes in the phone's direction. "Tell Caelius to keep his panties on. I'll have them in before I go back. It gets tiring acting like a weak little damsel in distress all day long, okay?"
