At first, it seemed like there would be no problems with flying. The broom seemed to be behaving well enough, going higher and higher as he had required of it. Then he realised that the broom wasn't stopping.
'Hey, This is as high as we should be. You should stop now.' Higher and higher, the broom continued to rise. 'Stop it, broom. This is more than high enough.' He took a deep breath. ' I command you to stop.'
The broom shuddered and went completely still. 'Whew,' Belenus reached up to wipe the sweat from his brow. 'See, was that really so...'
And time stopped. The broom dropped from under him, leaving him to free-fall the twenty-five feet or so back to earth.
'HELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP!'

Aizalin wasn't too shocked as his broom lifted him higher than three feet. He was really happy that the broom decided that it would be a good broom to him. He was very thankful to the broom and he glided through the air on its back. His hair blew back as he sped along the given area. He made sure not to go too high or too far since the professor had instructed them not to.
Glancing around, he noticed that other students were faring well and other were faring not so well. His eyes opened wider in shock when he spotted a student free falling from a way to high distance from the ground. He wasn't sure what to do. He could try to fly and catch the boy. No, he was too far. He really hoped that Professor Drake had an idea rather than let the boy fall to be injured or worse, his doom.

Getting higher than three feet from the ground was easy and awesome for Marcelyn as she soared in every direction. She avoided the students flying about with her easily and smiled as the wind blew in her face. Flying was so awesome. She made sure to give an acknowledging nod to the Slytherin students she passed while in the air. She was so proud of them and proud of herself. She did it! She had already reached the height limit and wanted to go beyond it. Her brain told her no as it knew something bad would probably happened. The broom probably had a mind of its own and didn't enjoy rule breakers.
Just as Marcelyn was about to attempt a flip in the air, she heard many gasps and a loud cry for help. She turned to see Belenus hurtling to the ground from about twenty-five feet. Watching, frozen in her spot, Marcelyn, though she hated to admit it, was actually glad that it wasn't her falling. She would have probably died it it were her. Well, it was her first time ever flying a broom, and she was young. She could feel her body begin trembling as she watched Belenus get closer and closer to the ground. She began flying in his direction, trying to think of a way to help the boy but nothing came to mind. What could a first year do, anyway?

Dew couldn't wait to soar in the sky. She knew it would feel so nice to have the wind flow against her. It would be just like driving in a convertible or something similar. After hearing Professor Drake's next set of instructions, she did as she was told. Dew watched as some of the students zoomed almost carelessly above her head. She really wanted to join them. She had been hesitant as she focused on her task of getting the broom to raised above three feet. She smiled at her broom, glanced up in front of her and willed the broom to rise from the ground.

For the first time today, Dew wobbled a bit on her broom. Now, normally, Dew would get angry, but she knew that it was her fault for getting a bit cocky. She knew that when she thought that she began thinking of herself doing things well she would mess up sooner or later. It always happened. Though she wobbled, Dew had little trouble raising her broom from the ground. She was soaring along with her friends, taking extra precautions, and having the time of her life. She really love flying, and it felt so much better than being in a convertible with the roof flipped back.
Hearing the commotion, Dew was like most of the students. Shocked and feeling useless as a student plummeted to the ground right in front of them. She looked over to see some students headed in the boy's direction and wondered what she should do.

Abby turned in shock at the professor's words, and clutched at the broom with both hands, holding it close in her burst of fear. Points? That awful, terrible wretch of a woman was taking points!? Abby tried to swallow past the large lump that was forming in her threat, and glared at the ground near her feet. She had just been threatened! By someone who was suppose to be an authority figure! Abby bit down hard on nothing and tried to drown out her thoughts.
But she had lost points for not wanting to- to degrade herself! She looked around silently, glaring at the other girls, even the Slytherins, who did what they were told like- like mindless sheep! Didn't the have any dignity!? But... She swallowed back a sob and snorted loudly, dismissively, for what audience she may or may not have, before pulling the broomstick away to place it under her between her legs. She grimaced. A grade was one thing, she could afford to fail at a class so completely useless as this one, but to bring down the entire Slytherin house? She couldn't do that, she took great pride in her house! And now, she'd just have to work really hard in her other classes to gain the points back.
Huffing slightly, she kicked off, hovering for a second in the air before the broom dropped out and she was left standing. "Work you stupid thing." She whispered to it, and tried again. The broom complied and she was left hovering in the air. She felt ridiculous. And now she had to actually fly. She didn't even want to anymore. What little excitement she had before, which wasn't even that much, was now completely gone, and she just wanted to get it over with. So she frowned at the stupid broomstick and willed the thing forward.

Abby's broom shot quickly forward and up, causing her body to slip backwards to the beginning of the bristles. The only reason she didn't fall arse over teakettle onto the ground was because she kept her fingers gripped tight before she even attempted to move. She jerked downward hard to level it out, and she was able to get it to stop and readjust herself. Once Abby was more evenly seated, she began pushing the broom forward again. Despite the fact that it would alternate between moving quickly and slow as a snail, she was able to get it to follow her instruction, more or less.
