Rise, my beautiful Beast!
Upon entering the room Circe noticed that the tables were on opposite ends of the room. The ghoul wasn't particularly worried about what the reason was behind this and quickly took her spot on the right side of the room. After she was seated the assistant-professor began to talk about how he had set up the room the night before and then their instructions for the task today. It seemed like an easy enough task but Circe had realized that here in the Horseman world that things were not always as easy as they appeared. In fact they were generally extremely hard. At least for her.
Circe took in a deep breath as she took her brush in her right hand and placed it's end into the stone slab where the ink was. What would she draw? Something with horns and angry teeth. Yeah. That was beast like right? Something inside her told her that, that didn't make a beast but she decided to go with it anyways. The ghoul lifted the brush from the stone slab and instantly noticed that she had soaked up to much ink. It was going everywhere! With a grimace the ghoul tried to drain as much excess off her brush as she could so that it wouldn't drip further anywhere else. Once that was complete she moved the brush over to the paper and began drawing her horned, fanged monster that in the end actually turned out extremely well. It looked just like what she had envisioned and you could tell what it was. Maybe she was a hidden artist? No. Not at all. Maybe the professor and her assistant professor would commend her on her work? Circe glanced over at the Horsemen. Er, maybe not.
She once more turned her attention to her painting. Now she needed to draw the eyes. How could she possibly draw them? With a smile she simply drew two dots for it's eyes and when she lifted the brush from the final eye the beast vanished and then reappeared on the scroll. Mission complete! The ghoul almost burst out with excitement before quickly excusing herself and bowing awkwardly to her professors and then made her way out of the classroom.

Rise, my beautiful Beast!Again Sammy returned to the class, her slippers left behind at the door as she shuffled inside. She stood quietly hands clasped behind her back, stand straight, look ahead, always be polite. She watched in proper silence as the scroll was unrolled revealing the landscape and she couldn't help but let her mouth gape just a bit at how lovely the image was.
Eventually they where sent on their way to each table, she returned to her own thumping down to her knees to stare disapointed at her ink from the day before. The cake had been crushed up long before the water could absorb the ink and she could only frown as she started to get her brush ready.
Her left hand moved slowly bone wrapping around cool wood as she carefully lifted the brush. Though her ink had been disapointing, her patients was paying off today as she slowly moved the brush over to the paper, not a single drop touching the paper till she gently pressed the brush against it.
Slowly the FEAR in her eyes dimmer as she sat there thinking, what would she paint? A dragon? No, best not to think of those, for some reason something else floated to the front of her mind, she wasn't sure why, but the idea was there. Very slowly her eyes flickered back to life. If one breathed slowly and closed their eyes, Sammy would dim her eyes intentionally for the same effect. When she finally looked down at her paper she started to pain, edges of little ink and heavy water starting to outline the shape, she went back into the middle now adding touches of dark spots for tones in fur, finally she moved back to the ink gathering as much as she dared not spilling a drop to add in each and every line on the tiger.
At last all that was left was two empty white voids in the middle of the face, carefully she started on them adding in the eyes before carefully moving the brush to the side. Just as the brush was placed down she swore something moved, that the tiger had blinked just once before vanishing.
When she saw it again, it was pacing quietly in the bamboo woods, eying each student in turn from between bamboo stalks.
For a long time Sammy simply sat there, eyes wide in shock at how well that had gone over. Very slowly she raised her left hand. "Assistant-Professor Shanzhu? May I take my leave, also is it possible, could I take an extra set of supplies for making more ink to paint something else in my free time?" She was sure Siddie would like a painting like this, Shehk too.

Rise, my beautiful Beast!
Designing a beast? Now that did sound entertaining. With a curious look at the long scroll stretching along the middle of the floor, the djinn took her seat behind one of the many tables, smiling softly to those seated to either side of her. There was a good number of students she didn't actually recognize, but she never really forgot her manners, and it first impressions were lasting things. It wouldn't do to give any of her peers the cold should just because they were in a strange enviornment.
Just as their instructor had said, the ink they had made the day before remained as fresh as if they'd just mixed it. It was almost too wet really, and Yaya let out a little gasp of disappointment when a few drops fell from her brush and right onto her parchment before she'd even had time lay out any sort of outline, staining the paper. As carefully as she could manage she tried to dab at the drops with the bottom hem of her skirt, but a lot of the dark color had already soaked in, and there wasn't a whole lot she could do to save it.
Except of course using that slight flub to her advantage and incorporating it into the design of her beast.
The lines she started laying down were long and fluid, rolling along the page in swoops and curls. Her beast had a very distinct serpentine look about it, and the splotches ended up as bold markings. A simple snake was a little too common for what they were doing though, so to spice things up she added a pair of fluffy, feathered wings. She ended with a painting of a feathered serpent, saving the eyes for last. Eyes that seemed to take on a living gleam as she finished them, and she could have sworn she saw some flicker of movement just before the painting faded from her paper and showed up within the bamboo that decorated the scroll on the floor.

Rise, my beautiful Beast!Quote: 2 - 3 : Your brush soaked up too much ink and it's dripping everywhere; might want to try to drain the excess off before lifting it off the stone slab. Quote: 4 - 5 : With extreme caution, you managed to get the outline of your beast done, and proceed to add in details. Quote: 4 - 5 : Although it took you some time, as you finished the eyes on your beast off, you could almost swear that it blinked at you right before vanishing from your paper. Today, they were going to get to paint! In her excitement, Morrigan rushed to pick up her brush and quickly dipped it into the ink she had made yesterday. Unfortunately, because of the rush, she soaked up too much ink. Without thinking, she squeezed the brush tip out with her fingers and while it worked in removing the excess ink, she now had ink on her fingers. She would have to try to be more careful from this point on.
When it came to painting, it seemed almost natural to her. An idea came to her instantly and looked a lot like the adara bird she had met yesterday, mixed in with some demonic features. Perhaps it was a mix of both she and the bird? She enjoyed putting in the details. She really wanted it to stand out on the scroll if she succeeded with today's task.
The final step was the eyes. The assistant-professor had said to draw them last. She paused for a moment trying to remember the way the eyes looked on the adara bird before setting to task. Since this was an adara demon beast, she tried to make the eyes look menacing. When she was done, she stood back to admire her work.
That's when it blinked.
At least it looked like it had blinked!
And then it was gone, as if it had never been there at all. Morrigan peered over her stone slab to glance at the scroll and sure enough, her creation was there on the scroll. Unmoving but nonetheless intriguing. Had it really blinked at her?
This was by far the coolest class she had ever been part of.

Rise, my beautiful Beast!Right. Right. Here we go! Enzo concentrated on his brush. He could do this. Nuts to all those professors who thought he was a nare-do-well. He could do this! His movements were right, he did everything properly, but unfortunately... his artistic skills really weren't that fantastic. Glowering down at the paper at the blobby creature he had created, he pouted. Until it blinked at him. And then he blinked back and it was gone. Oooookaaay? Well... that... was good, right?

Seeing that her creation was done, Mitsu wondered if she would be able to practice on non-magical paper. She didn't want to clutter the scenery with blob bears or a mess of ink. Perhaps if she just avoided adding the eyes since that seemed to be key to finishing the piece? Deciding to ask Mitsu looked to the assistant instructor and quietly raised her hand and waited to get his attention and be called on before she asked her question. " Is there other paper I can continue to practice on?"

Rise, my beautiful Beast!Zar had found his perfect class it seemed, a class where he got to do nothing but work with ink and paper. It was hard to conceal his enthusiasm as he arrived and headed over to join in, his only dismay being the fact they had to create something rather than simply replicate an existing thing. Or write text. He was good with text. Regardless he set up for the day's task, dipping his brush into the ink, perhaps with a little too much enthusiasm. Quote: Your brush soaked up too much ink and it's dripping everywhere; might want to try to drain the excess off before lifting it off the stone slab. Draining off the excess however was simple enough, he just dabbed it on his wings until it was suitably siphoned off, he could discard the inky paper feathers later without any real issues. He set to work, not entirely sure what to draw at first, at least until he decided to go with the obvious, painting out a large inky black dog with floppy ears and a silly grin. It totally wasn't based on anyone, nope. Quote: With extreme caution, you managed to get the outline of your beast done, and proceed to add in details. The face was where he ran into the most problems, for some reason he couldn't get it just right. Quote: For some reason, you couldn't help but spend a lot of time on the eyes, painstakingly adding in fine details. When you are finally done, your beast blinked before vanishing from your paper. And then, just as he thought it was perfect and had a real likeness to the dog he was aiming for, it blinked. And vanished. He stopped and stared at the page, brush still dripping in his hand. "...what?"

Rise, my beautiful Beast!Vibrating in his seat, Israfel did it. He made the ink and apparently it was good and now? Now he got to paint! Ear wings betrayed the general euphoria he felt at the idea of getting to paint, though, he wanted to draw something more than one beast. Where was the fun in that? He wanted to draw all the animals. He'd include a pony even! And clouds! And more trees! And the pumpkin sun and he'd make sure everything was smiling because it was a very nice and happy painting yes it was. In Israfel's excitement, he wasn't very careful, ink dripping and getting almost everywhere. His beast looked like a bloob and it's eyes were a bit lopsided. In Israfel's opinion, it was perfect however, and for added measure he gave it a smiley face. And arms so it could hugs the other animals. He made it very poofy too, (this just made it into more of a bloob). Still, he thought it was the best. Looking over to Sammy, his blue eyes shot open as she asked if they could take the ink. His hand shot up into the air and simply hung there. He wanted to paint all the things. ALL OF THEM.

Rise, my beautiful Beast!
Amrita watched as the scroll was rolled out, admiring the landscape on it from the distance at which she could see it. Very nice, lovely, in fact! It looked like a wonderful place to just roll around in the dirt, especially that little forest in the middle with the strange trees and---
Wait.
Design and Paint a creature?! If her luck with yesterday's ink was any indication, today was not going to go so well. The news drew an unhappy groan from her mouth before she could stop it, and by the time it had slipped out she didn't care enough to try and apologize for it. Ink based things weren't her friends. Today was going to be as terrible as yesterday.
She wanted to clobber something, and somehow, in this moment, she felt a little closer to understanding Christof.
Okay, well, fine. She had come to Conquest to learn, so she was going to learn, jack damnit! Suddenly on (metaphorical) fire with determination, Amrita reached out to claim her ink and brush, her gross little tongue sticking out from behind dry lips in concentration. Carefully she pressed the brush into the ink, gently she swirled it around a little bit, and with great care did she lift it back up, pressing the ink down into the paper. This time, the ink was perfect. It would go so well for her! This was all----
A DISASTER. A COMPLETE A TOTAL DISASTER! The ink was right, but the moment it was on the paper it just...it just...! AUUUGH! Amrita whined again, this time more to herself than out loud; damn her backward hands! This was so awkward, so so so so awkward! She dropped her brush several times in an attempt to keep it right, which only served to make her beastie look like a blob of blobness.
Greeat.
Practice made perfect though, and even though the monster of the body was irreversibly damaged, she finally got a handle on how to hold the brush. Okay! Here we go, eyes! She had to redeem her blob of blobness, and so she focused on the eyes as best as she could. The eyes were incredibly detailed for someone who had no artistic abilities whatsoever. They were so pretty, so detailed, so blinky---
Wait.
Blinky?! What even---
The beast on her paper was gone, now loitering on the scroll painting and completely unmoving. What even happened...?! Looking baffled, Amrita stood, bowed, and excused herself to ponder on this remarkable blinking piece of art.

Rise, my beautiful Beast!
With the coming of the second day of class, Ev entered with grace, and gave a light smile to her mentor's. Settling in the seat she'd taken before, the ghoul listened intently to the day's lesson. It was intriguing for sure! Masked eyes looked up at the scene sketched before them, and then back down at the parchment placed before her. Make a creature? But... what kind?
Lifting her brush, the demoness stared at the blank canvas... pondering. Nothing moved on her person, making it seem as though she'd gone petrified. But after awhile, her brush dipped into the ink, and slowly ran along the page. With some decent skill, she managed to create a small four-legged creature with a mushroom on it's back, as well as some hercules beetle horns on its head. It wasn't the most pretty of things, but.. it was something! Her eyes blinked rapidly for a brief moment as the image disappeared and reappeared, looking swiftly to her instructor's. How... had that happened...? But without there being anything else for her to do... and no friends to really talk to, the ghoul gave her respects to the professor's, and took her leave.

"Then you may yet become a master of this art," he said with what may have been some surprise, though he was quick to compose himself again. Maybe another riddle would throw her off? "Some say art imitates life. Or was it that life imitates art?"He flashed her his best cryptic smile. This was definitely his favorite part of the job, watching new students find out the hard way what was coming. Far be it from him to spoil the surprise. "As you wish." Shanzhu nodded at Sammy's request. He clapped his hands and within moments, two bowed servants came forward to present the undead girl with the things she had requested: one offered a parchment scroll, the other a brush and a bottle of ink, each decorated with ornate gold patterns that somehow seemed almost plain and simple in comparison with the decoration of the room. "These tools have no magic in them. They are for practice. Use them well." "If anyone else wishes to practice the art outside of this class, we will arrange for you to receive these same tools and scrolls as you leave. And, of course, we expect that our tools will be returned before you depart our island." He then stood there expectantly, eyes flitting between Sammy and Professor Zhang, as if waiting for something. Shanzhu looked midly perplexed by Israfel's enthusiasm but approached the siren regardless. "What is it I may assist you with?"
