Exhausted, he had finally pulled himself out of the crushing weight of the FEAR, back to relative safety. He rose shakily to his feet and bolted, knowing better than to come back so soon.

Sparrow Heartreed found the door quite unexpectedly.

Earlier that morning he had decided to take a stroll around the Isle of Famine, taking in the scenery, the plants, the horsemen themselves - anything and everything. He took his time, trying to ingrain as much of it as possible into his mind, determined to make the most of his last bit of time on the island. His week on the Isle of Famine was drawing to a rather bittersweet end - though he was very much looking forward to the next week on a different Isle, it would be a little disappointing to leave behind so much after such a short amount of time. Even with the rather amusing jolt to his happiness by whatever it was that he had knocked over in the crops room (that had been a little bit embarrassing - Sparrow had been far too cheerful and overjoyed at every little thing for almost a full hour and had probably tired everyone with his ceaseless complimenting of anything and everything he could find or see), he had really had a very pleasant time.

The door, when Sparrow stumbled upon it accidentally, was not one he had seen before. It was old and quiet and solemn and it seemed to have been not paid much attention before. Most curious of all, it was, in fact, open - and as Sparrow peered interestedly into its depths, he could feel the very odd, tingling sensation of FEAR shivering its way up and down his spine.

Such a thing could not be ignored so easily, so Sparrow, after glancing first one way, and then the other to see if anyone else was around, slipped past the door and into the blackness beyond.

The floor beneath his feet was rough hewn stone blocks, like much of the Isle of Famine. It steeped into a descent, and Sparrow groped his way through the darkness, his heart beating loudly in his chest. It was not that he was afraid - he wasn't - but it felt daunting somehow, as though he was not really supposed to be here.

Maybe I shouldn't have come, he thought to himself, but he kept walking anyway, letting the FEAR prickle through his senses. His booted feet suddenly hit something cold, sending a sharply contrasting sensation ricocheting through him as the floor beneath him shifted the materials it was made of. It was somewhat jarring, and Sparrow stumbled, brushing his hair away from his face.

More FEAR. It pulsed through his senses, strong and unmistakable, and Sparrow's eyes moved to the murals on the walls, the ones he had been trying to ignore since walking in through the door. They were carved intricately, the horsemen depicted almost looking alive with their feral, wild emotions like they might leap off the wall at any second.

Sparrow lifted a gloved hand. His fingers brushed briefly over one particular engraving of a horseman with a spear through her chest - but he did not have much time to muse over them, since at that moment he reached the end of the corridor.

It hit him so fast he did not even have a second to think.

FEAR slammed into him, and Sparrow stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes widening, his mouth open as a wordless gasp escaped his throat. He could feel wave after wave of nausea hit him, bile rising, and his head was spinning so fast he felt dizzy, uncomfortable, uneasy. His chest was heaving with the effort to breathe, and it felt as though a thousand needles were stabbing into him from all sides, leaving him breathless with agony.

He did not know whether or not he could handle this. Sparrow's legs gave away beneath him and he collapsed to the ground, stopping on his knees for a moment before he fell sideways. The FEAR was crushing him, knocking the air from his lungs, and Sparrow could not even find the strength to scream in pain.

His fingers grappled on the ground. They smoothed over something there - something glowing a harsh scarlet in color, and as Sparrow used every ounce of effort to lift his head to see what they were, his eyes traced the sharp lines, clearly defined.

Runes, he thought, squeezing his eyes shut briefly before forcing them open again. He followed the path they made, several of them circling around one large, main one in the center.

He did not know what they meant.

The pain shifted again and Sparrow doubled over, gasping. He had not ever felt this much pain before in his life, feeling as though his entire self, his entire being was disappearing, dissipating into nothingness. The FEAR was suffocating, dampening his senses, filling his head and his ears and his chest with pain and blackness.

What are these runes? Is it because of them?

He did not know what was going on.

Quote:
1-20: The Fear waves are overwhelming! You collapse on the ground, but as you look down, you swear you can see something: several symbols all glowing an angry red pointing outwards from the main runes in the center.

The pain was still there, but for some reason it felt as though it were lessening - and then it was gone entirely, and a strange sort of numbness settled over Sparrow, heavy and pleasant.

More than pleasant. Wonderful. It was as though he had drifted into something else entirely, something inexplicably, wonderfully peaceful. He felt better than he had ever felt before, and Sparrow closed his eyes, knowing that the pain had disappeared.

Protector. The word stuck in his mind, sifted through him. It was a good word, he decided. He would be a protector on this Isle, a part of the clans, someone who stayed and watched over the inhabitants. He had loved being on the Isle of Famine - this meant he could stay here.

I will protect you.

Something shifted again.

Sparrow jolted back awake, his eyes flying open. The pain had returned, the FEAR waves still pressing down on him from all sides, but for some reason this comforted him.

He was still alive.

But he was tired - so very tired. He wanted to close his eyes again, just go to sleep and maybe when he woke up it would all be over. That's what would happen, wouldn't it? If he just slept a little now, he would wake up and feel as good as new.

So tired...

Quote:
61 - 80: Everything goes numb and for a second, and you feel good, better than you have for a while. It feels peaceful, perfect, complete. You will be part of the Clans, you will be a protector of this Clan, watching over it with your Fear, with The Fear, the essence of what you all are: a barrier, a means to guard your clan from any harm in the purest essence -

- You wake up, back in your body. Maybe you realise how close you were to disappearing entirely. Maybe it would be more terrifying if you weren't so tired.

Sparrow felt as though he were starting to go crazy.

Perhaps it was the waves of FEAR from the spacious alcove that was settling over him like a sharp, harsh cloud, drawing the air out of his lungs and leaving behind only pain. Perhaps it was his own FEAR, rapidly dissipating, leaving him raw and vulnerable.

Either way, he had started seeing things - and he was not sure whether or not to trust them. His vision wavered in and out, and Sparrow squinted through the haze of his own mind, trying to make some sense of what he could see.

I see horsemen.

They are walking around below, back and forth, and they have things in their arms. Boxes? No, crates - they are wooden crates, and heaps of other bins laden with things I can't see.

There are a lot of them - why are there so many? What are they doing here? What are they doing with the boxes? What is in those boxes?

Can they make this pain go away?

Unfortunately, Sparrow had the distinct impression that none of the answers he sought would be given to him anytime soon. He could hardly move, the FEAR still suppressing him, and he was using every ounce of effort he could not to fall asleep.

But he was tired - so very, very tired.

I will not fall asleep.

With little more to do than struggle through the thunderous waves of FEAR, Sparrow's gaze was once again drawn to the members of the clans walking around in the room. It was like watching a movie somehow; the images kept going in and out like a broken skelevision set.

What is going on?

Sparrow did not know how long he lay there, fighting off the urge to simply close his eyes and let the FEAR take him. But his mind, as tired and sluggish as it felt, was still lucid, and Sparrow pushed and struggled and fought until he managed - with the last dregs of effort he had in him - to haul himself to his feet.

It was not easy. He staggered for several minutes, swaying precariously and he felt as though he were going to heave up the contents of his stomach right then and there.

His legs felt shaky - along with his entire body - but Sparrow stumbled back the way he had came until he had left the room entirely, back through the door and out into the open again. He dropped to his knees on the ground, closing his eyes and breathing in slowly.

Then he got back to his feet and made his way back to his dorm.

Quote:
81-100: You manage, finally, with the last dregs of your effort to escape. You are tired, exhausted still, but you make it out. Whatever it was it is best if you don't go back to the room ever again.

It was the last day to stay on the Isle of Famine.
Although she was attacked by plants, failed some training, encountered some rude clan youths, it was overall an interesting experience.
Arynek determined to use the remaining time to explore the isle, wandering around while recalling what happened in this short week.
She visited the oasis, the crop rooms, several training fields and so on, finally she arrived at the Open Den, the "dinning" place for the Clan.

At there, she saw a familiar face - Shenny, so she followed the ghoul behind, quietly and without notice..........
She saw Shenny slipped into a secret doorway?
She took a quick scan to the door, it was not noticeable enough as if you would just by-pass it. It was infixed into the rocky wall and with the same earthy tone as the rocks, it was really hard to make out there was a door.
Afraid that she would lose the trace of Shenny and being curious, she followed and entered the door.......

Once entered, she could immediately feel an archaic Fear keep emanating from inside.
The descending path was like swallowed by the darkness....
"Should I get in?" She asked herself.
Well, she had no time to hesitate and the shadow ghoul was a bit worried of Shenny, she walked in.

Even though it was so dark to see anything, but it was for normal people.
For Arynek who born as a form of shadow, it's just a piece of cake.
After a short distance of slope, there were a series of stone slab stairs.
Down, down and down.......

Time seemed to be stopped in the endless descent. It was so quiet.
She didn't notice how long she took to made to the bottom, but it was, for sure, a forbitten area for the Clan.
What things the Clan was hidding?.....In such a secret and strange place?

Arynek had somehow a feeling that she shouldn't continue, it may touch the line of the Famine people, but she couldn't help it.
Out of curious, she stepped forward to the deeper part of this place.
The soil on the ground was dirty but dry......her lovely boots....
The warmness descended as she moved forwards, she felt the sudden attack of coldness around her.
When she made her next step, she felt the ground is harder than before.
The soil ground has changed into stone gradually when she focused to sense the dramatic temperature drop.

She was sure that the deeper she went, the menacing of the Fear she sensed since entering the door.
Moreover, it was like a pulse, sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker, as if waves of intangible winds; as if some kinds of melody.

The observant ghoul also discovered the walls on the two sides were full of delineative antique graphics: carvings and drawing about the Clan.
She slow down her pace and watched them in detail.
For the skinny shape of the figures, she distinguished that those are the Four Clans members.
On the other side, there were some suffering figures, in misery.
From their poses, you could tell that they were scared, killed or run away from the clan members.
Are they possible to be........humans?
In between the two groups of figures, Arynek would identify things like hellfire, arrows, spears or other kinds of weapons she couldn't tell.
Also, there were some poor figures running from the large amounts of rats and crows.....plague?! Maybe.......
The graphics were continued from wall to wall, just like depicting a long story.
From what the shadow ghoul could infer, it was likely a story about how the Four Clans make use of several destructive means to ruin the Human World.
She was fascinated by the graphics and went further unconsciously.

Just a few moments later, she found herself walked into alcove.
All of a sudden, she was attacked by a unbreakable wave of Fear!
Was she being attacked by someone?
Arynek felt like someone had given her a big & heavy punch.
The feeling was miserable and overwhelming.
It was like something was pushing her against the ground, she couldn't even stand anymore.
She though she was in a great trouble that she had to save herself!
Ignoring the pain the unknow Fear gave her, she calmed down and thought what she should do next.
Through her scanning, she could barely make out down below was a symbol, surrounded by Four Clans glyphs.

Maybe that's the reason why the Clans didn't tell us this place......

It was so hard to concentrate as besides the pain she was having, there was consistent buzzling noise, as if someone had been keep murmuring near her ears.
Arynek covered her ears with her hands, but it was of no use.
Sooner or later, she found the Fear encompassed her entirely.
It was so disgusting and she found herself dissipating.....?!
She could see herself was being drawn to the source below, part-by-part.
She knew she would vanish permanently soon in this speed.

Even worse, the symbol was drawing her more closer to it, causing faster speed of her fading.
Arynek collaspsed on the ground and now she could see more of the symbol.......
Red beams of wrathful lights were pointing outwards from the symbols surrounding the main runes.

Hurt! It's so painful!

Tyshina being the curious person she was decided to go off on her own and explore. She had been hearing some tales about the Open Cavern and decided to go check out. Sadly she had never been in this part of the area before and it took her awhile to find its exact location. Times like these she wished she had a map. Since she swore she had gotten lost at least ten times before she finally found the entrance to the place she was looking for.

The entrance looked like a normal cave to her, though the moment she stepped inside she knew it was far from normal. The feeling the cave gave off was of some ancient sort of fear, the kind you hear of in bedtime stories. Except this one was real and from what she could tell it was coming from the back of the cave.

She slowly walked to the back of the cave and there she saw an extra door, which looked almost of place. Without thinking she walked right in, no questions or concerns, she just walked in. It wasn’t long after she walked through the door that she came to what looked like a staircase. It was strange though since this staircase looked ancient, and as if no one before now had traveled on its steps. When the smart thing to do would have been to turn around, she did the opposite and walked right down them. Though she couldn’t help it, her curiosity told her that adventure may lie ahead! Well maybe that was her brain telling her that but either way she refused to miss out on this chance!

Once she reached the bottom she arrived at an alcove of sorts. It was beautiful in a way, just not what she had expected to find. The moment she steps foot the alcove her whole body goes numb! She feels good but different at the same time. She begins to dream that she will be a part of the clans, a protector, one whom watches over the fear. And by doing all this she will be complete, and all it takes is her being a barrier.

She stays this way for what feels like forever, before she quickly breathes and is woken up! She is back in her being and no longer is she numb. It takes her only a few moments before she realizes she almost disappeared. The funny thing is she isn’t scared at all and is actually okay with that. “Well at least I came back,” she says with a smile as she decides to try her luck and venture further.

Only a few steps further and suddenly the fear waves of the caves become far too much for her small body to handle. She feels her body falling further and further to the floor. She couldn’t control anything as she inched closer and closer to the ground, she was helpless and she hated feeling this way! It didn’t take her long before she stopped fighting and allowed her body to collapse to the ground. She closes her eyes and opens them only to see weird symbols glow on the ground. They all glow a bright red, one that looks like the angriest thing she had ever seen. As she followed the red she followed the glow to the center where they all faced the main runes in the center of the floor, “What on earth….,” she whispered as she watched them all sudden vanish before her! One second they were there and the next it was as if it was all a dream …

As she stood to her feet she let out a sigh of relief. To be forced to the ground was something she hoped she would never feel again. Since being helpless like that made her feel weak and weak was something she never wanted to be. Though after she walked only a few feet more the force of the fear overcame her once again. This time it was stronger than before and it took no time at all to have her fall chin first on to the ground. She winced only slightly as she hit the hard ground, and made no obvious sounds of pain. This time the ruins flashed faster and it was like she was watching lightening as she watched them disappear. “I wonder if those flashed of red are telling me something about the runes,” she whispered to herself as she felt her strength slowly coming back into her body. For this to happen two times in a row something must be significant about these runes and red glowing brightness.

The pain was so serious.....Arynek didn't know how long the pain lasted, but for a while, she couldn't feel it anymore.........her mind went totally blank.
It was so peaceful, comfortable and merry.
I am part of the Clans, what I need to do is to protect the Clan with my Fear........
I am guardian......I will protec the Clan from any dangers..........
All she got is the same belief...........it was like a brain-wash

Unexpectedly, her Uchitels came into her mind, it was like wake-up alarm to the shadow ghoul.
Next second, she woke up and the pain returned.
It was so close that she would vanish completely.....

If ti was a dangerous room, certainly, the clan would have prevented them from going in, right? It was like an adventure. just like the oasis, the cafeteria and all the other training areas. Vaith hadn't thought this area would be any different .. The only difference was that it was less conspicuous.

Perhaps, he would learn later, that less conspicuous might have meant 'dont go in. Vaith whistled as he walked down the hall, his fingers twitching, as if ready for a locust or another plant to grab at him. He didn't think it would be a minefield of danger but caution was always a good thing. He blinked several times, letting out his breath in low deep nervous ones. There were other students but Vaith didn't seem to take any particular notice of any of them. He knew he could turn back any time ---

--and perhaps he should have.

It was a sudden sweeping attack, like a wind that had gone through the cave, knocking Vaith over. If it had been an attacking wind, that would have been more bearable than the fear that filled every molecule of his body exploding. It wasn't the fiery physical kind of explosion, it was as if a foreign cell had decided to bond to every individual cell .. Millions of billions of cells, invaded.. The sensation of his own fear exploding as new fear settled against his protesting body. Resisting .. Overwhelming. Destroying and dissipating.

.. Was that his body he saw them carrying out?

She stood to her feet and brushed off her clothes only a bit. Though then once again she was on her way! This adventure was getting more and more exciting by the minute. She was determined to figure something out, since after all until she found an exit she was kind of stuck in here. As she inched further in a numb feeling over came her body once more. While she was in this state she felt whole and almost like she was meant to stay this way forever. Like she should never return to her body, ever….
Thankfully the feeling vanished within a few minutes and she was able to return to her body. Once she got there she took a deep breath and paused for a moment to take in what had just happened to her.

“This place is definitely getting my adrenaline going,” she said with a laugh as she continued forward deeper into the area. It seemed like only as few more minutes, before the fear once again overwhelmed her body. Except for this time was different than the two times before now. Since this time she actually saw people instead of symbols. There was a strange flicker of images, which at first came out very blurry to her eyes. Though once the images came into focus she noticed it was of Four Clans members walking into the room. They looked like they were carrying large crates and cartons of something and were going out in large numbers. “What on earth are they up to,” she thought quietly in her mind as she waited for her strength to re-inhabit her body and watched the images vanish.
