Jack, it was getting abysmal in this heat. The zomboil was wavering in step, be it from the sickening sun, the bothersome sand, or the fact that his glasses kept wanting to slide off his nose. He really hoped this trial was going to be over soon.

So at first he thought it was a hallucination that he had found shade. Maybe it was one of those desert mirages he's heard about? But then, that didn't explain the huge crabs coming for his WHAT.

Schink! went the crab's claws as it cut into the skin of his arm. It flung him forward angrily, a shortcut to his team if you will.

Mort's place plowed the way for the rest of his body as he landed in the midst of the Honey Badgers, dizzy and sweaty and hot and ;lfkjsldkjfldksjnfkldnkldf WHAT THE HELL.

"Graaa . . ."

Spitting out sand, Mort rolled onto his side and miserably got up. He officially hated beaches. Caves with hot springs, fine. Beaches with sand and sun and huge-a** crabs? NO. No no no no no.

His glasses had been half-covered in the gritty s**t, but the zomboil was tired of being useless. Espying some of the shelled monsters trying to flank Yin and Alex during Their Moment, he sent a few bolts of electricity their way. "O-Over here!" he growled at the enemy. "Pick on Y2!"

And so they did.

Snips had been watching them with some curiosity, unsure of whether to attack its brethren. And then he saw a couple of the things try to take out the castle, as well as batter at his now tiny-sized minions and, well, that did it.

Honey Badgers didn't take s**t, and neither did it.

So Snips skittered over to the weird-smelling one who had been thrown into the fray, picked him up, set him on his back, and charged right for the enemy horde.

Mort, who at this point was just happy to have even a remote breeze on his face, grinned, steadied himself on the crab's back, and concentrated fire on a cluster of crabs ahead as he rode his magnificent new beast on the battlefield.

Of course, even astride as magical a beast as a hermit crab, Mort was not immune to being clawed at. He was nearly deseated in the process.

But would that make him give up? Hell no.

Last time he'd ridden something, it had been a falsicorn student into the chaos that had been the Red-Beast and the Hunters, and that had been a miserable one-sided fight. This, however, was a new Mort, a new battlefield, and a very new steed. This was a Mort who was going to take down those damn crabs even if one of them had launched him like a newb and had had fun cutting into him with those razor sharp claws.

Determined to provide some aid, Mort steered Snips this way and that by grabbing its antennae, like a horse's reigns, and directing them into the fray. Snips was apparently rather bloodlustful, as it bashed at the enemies with no reserve. Between that and the zomboil's zaps, eventually the crabs were driven off; one left a parting shot by nearly severing Mort's leg at the ankle as it scuttled off.

Tired but satisfied, Mortimer flopped across Snips's back with a heavy sigh, aching and hot. The hermit crab had the sense to bring them towards the shade and pool, whereupon the zomboil completely slid off into the cooler sand as Snips went for a dip in the water.

Alex had hit the ground pretty damn hard, and had to grit his teeth at the impact. This time he did not even feel like pushing himself back up, and if it weren't for the thought that Yin might still be fighting or getting hurt, he might have just decided to stay down forever.

He didn't even have the chance to attempt to get back up though. The weremantis was already there, by his side. Alex shut his eyes, which were fairly well hidden behind his hair anyways, and groaned. "Please tell me I haven't lost any limbs. I don't want my parents to see that on skellyvis--" He halted in his sentence as he felt something brushing against his cheek, and he peeked open with one eye to see what was going on. "..Yin..?" He started, but the other boil was interrupting him, not giving him a chance to speak, or a chance to say 'don't worry about it, a rest sounds great to me'. Instead he just continued on, about 37 different ways to pin him down. If Alex wasn't so exhausted and injured and ready to just die already from the heat, he might have been able to appreciate that sentence better.

Ah hell, who was Alex kidding, even during all of this, he could appreciate that sentence, and he even managed to smile, though his face felt a bit funny on one side. He shifted a little as though he was going to try to sit up, but then he caught that steely glint in Yin's eye, and decided that it might be best to just...lay there. "Okay okay.." He finally mumbled, though the concern in Yin's voice was touching, and warmed the zomboil up on the inside. "Though when these trials are over, you are giving me a demonstration of all of these different pins. All of them."

It didn't really appear that it mattered, however, since suddenly Mort was there, and was riding around on the hermit crab like it was some kind of pony, taking out the crabs and saving them from certain death.

"You don't happen to have a needle and thread on you, do you?" Alex suddenly asked Yin, from completely out of the blue.

Pleased that Alexander was willing to listen to reason, and rather amazed to see Mort riding Snips to victory, Yin relaxed ever so slightly. He still was not okay in every sense of the word, but without the stress of the crabs attacking and having a moment to reassess the situation perhaps it was bearable. This was not the time to deal with any of his own issues, he had to be strong for his team. He had to make sure this did not happen to Alexander again. "Of course," he told him, slightly confused that the zomboil suddenly seemed interested in training again.

He glanced around. It appeared as everyone had suffered some injury from the crab's attack, and they could all probably use a rest. Alexander was asking him for something else, and he turned his attention back to him. A needle and thread? Confusion crossed his face. "No?" Why would he...then it clicked, the stitches on the zomboils...Alexander probably needed needle and thread to keep himself together. And he had not brought any with him. Feeling rather horrible about not thinking to keep some with him at all times he pushed himself to his feet. "I shall go see if anyone else has some."

He surveyed the other group members. Of them all he certainly felt the most comfortable around Mort, and as the zomboil was also an undead he was probably the most likely to be able to help. Yin headed over toward where Snips had left him. "Mort, Alexander has need for needle and thread. Do you have some?" Straight and to the point, now was not the time for him to dwadle.

"Nnng . . ." It took him a moment to properly respond, his head reeling, his fingers twitching. He eventually sat up against one of the walls of the castle, wiping at his forehead as he fumbled around in his pockets. "Mrrr . . . Should be . . . y-yeah." In seconds he plucked out a needle and some thread, items he had long learned to carry around given his affinity for losing parts. Mort didn't want to move for a while, but making his hands do al lthe owkr themselves was out of the question - FEAR and natural abilities had been locked down, it seemed; otherwise his body would be hating him more right now.

He gestured for Alex to come over and get stitched up. "You guys alright?" Mort asked tiredly.

Taryn nodded, moving over herself to assess the damage. It seemed as if one of their zomboils was a little worse for the wear, though. They were lucky that Mort could field repairs.

"I'm fine," she nodded, having only received a few snips to the ankle. Crabs didn't have very good aim, it seemed. Seeing that Alex was taken-care-of, though, she crouched to check out Snips.

Alex really reaaaaallllly did not feel like moving. But it seemed he was going to have to, if he wanted to have any form of treatment on his wounds done. He very slowly and gingerly raised himself up using his less damaged arm to push himself up while he kept the other cradled against his shredded and oozing chest. He then stumbled ridiculously slowly over to Mort, sinking down in front of him and slowly unwrapping the tie that he had used to hold the flesh of his arm together until now. It wasn't bleeding, and had knit together a little bit due to his healing before fear was lost to him completely. His arm and his face, as well as a couple of deep gashes in his chest, were the worst of his injuries that required attention.

He glanced up to Yin from behind a curtain of white hair. "Sit down with me?" He asked. "You might as well rest up too, before we come under attack again."

"Also this." He said, thrusting the tie still held in his hand towards the weremantis. "You can use it to wrap around that cut in your arm. Unless you'd prefer to have stitches as well."

"Is everyone okay?" Chuppi looked worried as the last of the crabs finally disappeared, and the monster rubbed at the sore spots she had on her hands and her foot from kicking the creatures into the water and away from the castle. The things they'd added to the castle had helped somewhat, or so it had seemed, but the chupacabra was worried over if everyone else was okay. The sandcastle could be rebuilt - she wasn't so sure what would happen if any of the students got hurt bad enough to die while in the human world.

"Taryn, you took a lot of damage, are you okay? Yin and Alex, you are still first years yes? I am worried of you - and Mort, you are too! I am nervous for all of you." She didn't look nearly as injured as the others - perhaps it was because they'd been attacking the crabs far more aggressively than she had. Her wounds merely stung, she wasn't even tired, but what of the others? Would there be more coming? She could not help but think things would end badly.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 08, 2012 8:10 pm

Taryn nodded to Chuppi, her hands on her hips again. She was slightly short of breath, but there had been a lot of dancing going on as she tried to dodge the crabs.

"We're fine, don't worry. We're prepared for as many rounds as it takes." She crouched down to Snips again, and then just plopped in the sand. Thank Jack for leggings.

"M'fine, m'fine . . . Sittin' n' shade'll help," Mort half-sighed, half-groaned in response. "Will b-be better . . . after patch up . . . Don't be nervous." He gave Chuppi a tired smile before examining Alex's injuries, beginning the work on sewing back on the looser pieces or flesh on his arm.

Snips, now cooled off, scuttled out of the pool with glistening glory, settling by Taryn. Its claws were still clicking together impatiently as if ready to bash something else in. The strange iron-scent coming off of some of its minions was a bit unsettling; normally it only smelled such when something was injured.

Its minions better not be injured. The hermit crab gave Taryn a glare as if daring her to tell it that she was tired.

Yin sat next to Alexander, legs partially drawn up and arms resting on his knees. He took the proffered tie, hesitant about using it on his arm for fear of damaging it, but knowing that it was probably already ruined from being on the zomboil's ripped flesh. "Thank you," he murmured, than began wrapping it around the cut on his arm. He was oddly good at wrapping it even with just one hand, probably from years of practice from wrapping various parts of his body. Which...could also be used as bandages. If they had not been soaked with sea water, which had been oddly salty. He tucked the end of the tie in and made sure it was secure, finding it just slightly ridiculous that he now had a tie fastened to either arm.

"I shall be fine," Mademoiselle Temes "Are you also faring well?" He watched carefully as Mort began to sew up his zomboil, trying to not if there were any differences than say...sewing up his clothing, which he had more than enough practice with. There was always the possibility that he would need to do this in the future. And yes, he would certainly start carrying the materials with him.

Snips seemed to be in fine form, an excellent fighting specimen. Rising from the water he looked like a dripping Grecian god, coming to grace the team with his magnanimous aura. It was hard not to be slightly enthralled and amazed by the hermit crab. Yes, this was certainly a being to fight for.

Alex sat patiently, allowing Mort the prestigious honor of sewing his arm back into some semblance of order. He really wanted to reach over and wrap his free hand around Yin's, but knew that the other boil would frown upon such action, and so kept his hands to himself.

For now.

He tilted his head to the side to watch the needle as it pierced into his flesh, never able to watch the performance before as the only thing he'd ever needed to have stitched back on was his head to his neck, and he couldn't really watch that. In fact, Alex hated those stitches on his neck so much as a scareling, he had convinced his parents to let him wear neckties to cover it, and that way he wouldn't be reminded of how his sisters had so morbidly sliced his head off, anytime he looked in the mirror. That was before the ties became more of a fashion statement, of course, since Alex no longer wore them to hide anything.

"I'll be alright, Chuppi." He turned his head away from Mort's work to give her a wan smile, still noting that one side of his face felt peculiar. He'd have to get Mort to stitch that wound next, he supposed.

"How much time do you figure we'll have before we are under attack again?" Alex asked, slightly concerned that they wouldn't make it through another round like that.
