It was a good thing Israfel was holding onto Lucien when he grabbed onto him because otherwise the air spirit might very well have floated away like a bright red balloon. Fortunately, he didn't and his attention fell onto the puzzle again. If it was seeds, then there was no way he'd ever have that much. Could he even count that high? Probably not. He could float that high but not count. He could count up to... at least... one, two, three... the air spirit counted his toes and fingers in his head carefully.
"I'm not very good at math. I really hope it is not math."
It was probably a code. Yeah, one that didn't use math. Yeah.
"I bet three clouds that it is a code for something! It's probably right under our noses."

There was lots of students chattering around the room that even Merel's loud squeaking of excitement was lost in the crowd of noise. Nevertheless the reaper made the attempt to head in the direction the ebony mouse pointed towards because she unlike him could at least see above the crowd. Her little paw was pointed directly at the familiar owl boil that was the leader of their group who from the looks of things had found the rest of the members in the group. Giving a weak half mustered up smile he waved to the group, he recognized Willow and Muka but the other two were not students he had met. "Hello..."

"I don't think we're going to need math for it, especially starting with this......maybe if we...."
Shehk took a pen from nowhere and fussed with the numbers on the paper before showing it to the rest of the group. "Does this seem like a reasonable direction?"

She wasn't good with puzzles, nor was she very fond of them. However, since the first pre-trial thing was a puzzle... Well, there's really not much of a choice but to try to solve it.
Thus, when Barth directed it to her... Well...

It had been a rough few hours, but Taryn was... reasonably confident in her team's skills. If nothing else, her team had proved that they worked well together, that they would persevere. She had faith. She was confident. This was new.
The ghoul returned to the horseman with a victoriously torn strip of notebook paper and handed it over with a smile and a soft sigh. Tomorrow, they would all know the glory of The Honey Badgers.

It was the day before the trials and the ghoul was feeling rather .... unprepared.
Didn't help that they were given a puzzle to solve before all of it started ... and that she was automatically given the task of solving it.
“Where did you guys get the idea that I'm some sort of puzzle solving genius?” she muttered, taking the slip of paper from Roch and examining the numbers. Interestingly enough, she had an idea or two already. However, she couldn't solve it alone.
“Shall we uh, take this discussion elsewhere?” she asked, still staring at the clue. She was sure the boils would have an idea or two....

Spectrae was so pleased. The purple friend had looked at her! So did the other purple friend, and the other one - okay so maybe the subtle art of colour outside of the domain of things black and green was lost to the Nergal. She happily skipped behind Riley as the mindflayer went to hand off the answer, stopped exactly when they stopped, skipping again, stopping, skipping, and then another stop back to the group.
Maybe if they squinted really hard, she could pass as a minipet. And maybe if she just really stopped smiling like that. A few of her eyes blinked, expectantly, several students who were also in the process of handing in their answers suddenly shouting loud, surprised yells, as they tripped over the bandages that wrapped around several of the seats and between the hallway of the auditorium.

Aksaja frowned at the paper again, then shrugged. He wasn't all that great with puzzles or numbers so . . . he felt pretty useless here. "We can go up to my room if you want to. It's pretty big," he offered then, with a slight shrug.

Circe had excitedly accepted the small piece of paper with the numbers written on it, absorbing as much information as she could retain in her memory of what they had been told. "So this is the hint." She said with a smile as she headed back over to her group. "We can do this!" Circe said confidently as one of her fists raised into the air. "Though... Maybe we should go somewhere else to talk about what the answer might be?" Her black eyes scanned her teammates.

Riley hadn't actually realized the ghoul had followed her, even when she turned around to walk back to the group. Spectrae must have had some spiritual connection with the flow of Riley's spine and moved in perfect rhythm with it because she was an airbender obviously. But when she heard the surprised yelps of tripping students, she did manage to turn around and find Spectrae behind her, following her like a creepy new pet.
Jericho's loud accusation sounded about right, and Riley had come to that conclusion the moment she'd laid eyes on her, but Spectrae's actions seemed a little more vacant than she'd assume a hunter would be. Riley gave the ghoul another long, penetrating look, before sighing in defeat.
I sense nothing suspicious about her. I don't know. I still wouldn't trust her with any of the clues. Is she.. Riley tried moving around, a step to the left, then a few steps to the right, before whispering.
Is she still following me.

"Calm down, Jericho. I'm sure she's just lost." Junko just watched with confusion as the ghoul followed Riley like a little batling. So strange. She winced as students began tripping over the bandages, wanting to help them but realizing she probably couldn't. They'd already tripped and she was no healer.
When Riley returned..the ghoul followed. Welp. Looks like Riley was a momma now. "Yes, she is."

The girl was still following Riley. Jericho was more than certain she was a hunter spy! Well. That was until his best friend said there was nothing suspicious about her. Blinking, he looked between her and Junko. Well. Ok. Maybe it was a student, but he still didn't trust her.
It was as Riley said.
"She is. We don't trust her. What if she's trying to flank you?" he frowned.

The ghost, floating an inch of the ground seemed to be slumped over an invisible object. The slimer watched her excitedly moved back over to them, and froze back to her eyes. Those deep large black eyes, so unusual, so pretty.
He broke from the trance, and flew behind her to take a glance at the clue. "Maybe not too far, perhaps, the older wiser one of us can solve it quickly," his eyes raised up to the other ghost in the group, hoping her experience could help with the first challenge.

Obediently, Spectrae hopped exactly one step right, and half a step to the left - that is, just moving one foot stork-style - mirroring Riley's actions entirely. Junko's shift in attention also distracted the Nergal as well, though all she did was simply look at some of the students, half-encased in bandages or in various states of attempting to peel them off, each of her spines and exoskeleton pieces clicking together in satisfaction at her job well done helping all of the students before focusing her attention back on the trio.
Though she was by no means, as they - perhaps with the exception of the fire-breathing purple thing with no tail - anything of remarkable intelligence, it was also unfortunate that her little trip into the abyss and beyond had left her with even less of the intelligence and socializing ability.
That is to say, Spectrae, after two months, suddenly realized she could talk.
To the normal Halloween student, it would simply sound like a series of hisses, clicks, and the occasional pause which was potentially punctuation. Nergal, was a language that was classified under Halloween as 'Potentially one of the most retarded and annoying languages ever', mostly being that the language only had, really, two words, though all Nergal somehow knew, even with those two words, that were indecipherable by any long means, what everyone else meant. Usually.
What it really meant was that most of their kind communicated through body language as opposed to actual, coherent words. For anyone who had a copy of the latest 'Halloween: A Traveler's Guide' guide handy, she was either saying "Pot Roast" or "Dragon Butt".
