Moriath rumbled to Calanoth, Though she was unwilling to depart herself as yet having an advance guarding heading out couldn't be a bad thing; they would need healers on hand the very moment they landed by the look of some dragons.

she went on, turning her attention to Argenth, They had lose enough. Bodies on the ground, or bodies missing. They should have been more prepared.

"We will be next time," Kleos said decisively, peering around for anyone who needed immediate help but might not have been able to call out. Next time. Next time they would be prepared.

F'ren and Toulonth made a last sweep, eyes glued to the skies for any sign of more thread but there was none. If F'ren was honest with himself, the sweep was to delay having to land, having to see those that lay below, the life gone from them but .. he had to, to take stock of who was gone and who was still with them. Call them Toulonth.... find out who we've got of ours on the ground and who might need help the fastest

Toulonth keened quietly and her eyes whirled with tiredness and concern. Dragons of Trine ... Mine asks who is the most injured and where we should land and meet she broadcast, her tone weary.

F'ren looked over Toulonth from his saddle while they hovered and waited for more instruction from ranking dragons, Toulonth had surely been telling him who had been lost but for now F'ren couldn't recall, his mind clouded by stress and weariness, Fighting thread having taken more out of him than he would have thought possible, the strain of keeping watch, of staying in the saddle and feeding Toulonth sufficient firestone to supply her flame. He gloried in her as he realised they were both unharmed but the glory was tinged with guilt and grief at the fact others were hurt and dead.

The feeling is mutal, Argenth agreed with a mournful exhale. The smell of blood, ichor, and ash was strong, and it only served as an additional reminder of the tragedy that surrounded them. There was no beauty in this. There may be some who returned home mid-battle rather than went Between. We can't truly know the numbers of loss until we gather and return with those who are still alive and present. He almost hoped that there were a good amount at home, simply so that there will have been less blood-shed. If one was too heavily injured to fight any more then it made sense to have left. At least, that was what he told himself in preference to considering the possibility of deserters.

-------------------

We are unsure of who is most injured or where, Tereth called back to the weary green (Toulonth), but you may land down here to rest while we gather and sort ourselves. Anyone who is injured we will gladly help. But unless they were even remotely organized it was difficult to tell just who needed the help, or who was even with them. So dragons were scored so heavily that they were near unrecognizable. Could they even make the trip Between?

-------------------

S'koi and Laith, meanwhile, had quietly made their way back over to the brown that had addressed them. S'koi remained silent, having not said a word aloud since the battle had ended. He didn't trust himself to speak right now, nor could he even imagine what he might say. He was simply here to help and follow orders.

Threafall seemed to stretch on and on; then suddenly it was over. No more deadly silver rain clouded the skies. Wearily the bluerider sent Kameth circling to the ground. The dragon calmly reported the losses of the weyrs as he landed. Wykla was numb and couldn’t believe so many had been lost. She sat without seeing until Kameth’s whimper of pain brought her back. Her fingers flew through the buckles of her harness.

“How bad is it? Do you think you can fly?” The closest scores were on his rump, but the ones she feared the most were on his wing. First her dragon, then morning came later. Wykla did her best to not see the bodies that littered the ground. Dragon and rider alike.

Kameth wearily raised his head when the crimson called. He found himself near the others of Malvren that had answered his call. He let His examine the wounds. I can fly Mine, but I will not want to for long. The blue turned his attention to Moraith, we are here. I can fly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Optheli couldn’t and didn’t bother stopping the tears that streaked her sooty face. Dynith had just given her the list of dead. It was far too large. Because they fought alone? She wondered. Nothing could help them now, so she turned to the living. Out of her pack she pulled a small jar of numbweed. It wasn’t much, but it might help get the worst of the injured home to real treatment. Are you ok Dynith? Do you want some numbweed before I pass it on?
The green turned her head back to her rider. She still thought of others. Dynith gave a loving croon, I am alright Mine. There are others who need it more. Her head turned toward Pipith. We are. Mine has a small bit of numbweed to help the severely injured get home. It is not a lot though.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

His arms stung, and he could feel a similar ache from Scarath. The scores on the dragon’s shoulders could not have been too terrible as his wingbeats were still strong. He directed the bronze down beside Pipith and Dynith. S’kor frowned at the numerous markings on green Dynith. They appeared to have been hit the worst of their group. He slid down the bronze’s side further back than normal to avoid his scores. “Everyone alright?” He had to smile at Optheli when Scarath relayed the green’s offer. Trust her to be prepared.

Not everyone was alright though. Some had their suffering ended in a more permanent manor. He felt that there would be serious repercussions from this.

Scarath settled gracefully, but with a tired snort. We are well enough Pipith. I doubt many could carry me otherwise. He replied with humor to the other bronze. Toulonth, we are here. He politely showed the green where the group had landed.

Good, Pipith rumbled, relieved to hear that Scarath and Dynith were well - or well enough, at least. Under other circumstances, he might have taken exception when the other bronze referenced his own large size, but now he took little notice. Scarath had followed him, and won respect he'd given to no other bronze, regardless of size.

Do what you can, he encouraged the others. Mine and I will return home, and tell them what has happened. We can speak more there, after all have been tended to.

After dismissing a faint protest from his rider that maybe they should stay longer, just in case they were needed, Pipith gathered himself and launched into the air, blinking between.

Haven reported Wykla wanted to get Kameth back to the Weyr. She settled back into place on his back. “Lets get home.” When he took off she pictured the Weyr with relief. They had survived. Perhaps they weren’t whole, but they were alive. In a moment they had disappeared from the scene of battle.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Surprisingly no one spoke up to claim the numbweed. Optheli looked around at the other riders still there and to the brown that had joined them. Now that Thread was over things were settling down and riders returning home. All too quickly Pipith left and went between. She glanced at her brother and saw him frowning.
“We can stay to help anyone.” She gave a smile and slid off the green. Quickly she dabbed a bit on the wingtip. “Sorry love, we’ll get home fast. Anyone need a dab?” Optheli asked of the nearby riders from any weyr.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

S’kor frowned when his bronze relayed Pipith’s message. The other pair was already gone before he could stay anything though. I like it not he left so fast. That was not how a leader should act to his mind. They should have waited until everyone was ready to go back. S’kor thought he just wanted to rush home for the praise to his work. Scarath we’re going to stay a bit longer. Ask all the dragons if anyone needs help. He nodded to Optheli, she knew what he intended.

Scarath watched his fellow bronze leave then looked to Dynith. He blinked at his rider’s irritation. The bronze gave a shrug then rumbled in pain. Are there any who need help returning home? He broadcasted to all the dragons present.

Scarath and Dynith will remain for awhile longer, if no one responds then they’ll leave.

It seemed that all of the dragons from their Weyr who lived were going to make it back without assistance. Nevertheless Moriath remained on the ground; she and Hers wished to be sure before setting off themselves. While the dragon glanced around for anyone who might still need help or reassurance, the woman looked up at the sky. So clear now. It was hard to believe that only moments before death had rained from the skies....

There was no time to blame themselves for not being prepared; there was work to be done in the aftermath of this devastation. Kleos' eyes flickered back to the corpse of Sikath, and the other dead of Malvren who had not even made it between. "You will not be forgotten," she murmured, throwing a last salute to the fallen. The greatest way to honour their memory was to make sure that their home continued to survive and thrive... and how trite and worthless that sounded in the face of lives so brutally cut short.

((Kleos and Moriath will remain a little longer if anyone from Malvren needs help or wants to talk to them.))

Toulonth passed the messages back to F'ren who leaned forwards and rested his forehead on the neck of his Green for a moment. "ok Toulonth let's land" he said wearily. When Toulonth found a space to land F'ren slithered to the ground as he dismounted. He took a few rapid breaths and promptly threw up. He felt ashamed at it but he hadn't been able to help it. Wiping his mouth he stood up straight and looked around at the faces of those still living. "Toulonth, since we're one of the few uninjured would you please ask if anyone here needs a ride back to Trine" he asked her.

"Scarath.... we are fine, F'renmine and I are unhurt" she replied to the familiar Bronze, her tone warmer towards him than it had been when she'd addressed multiple dragons "Of course Tereth, we will wait and see if anyone needs help getting home." Toulonth had landed nearer to the more familiar form of the Bronze Scarath than most other dragons, taking some comfort from him despite being unable to remember WHY she liked him. "Mine asks if there is anyone that needs help returning to our Weyr, we are unhurt and i am strong" she said, addressing ALL Trine dragons.

S'kor jumped down from Scarath's back and went over to F'ren. Supporting him until the heaves had passed and not saying anything condescending. Once F'ren was stable, he let go and stepped back. "S'alright. We won't tell anyone. Happens to everyone at some point." A message from the bronze made him nod with a smile.

"I'm glad your unhurt. You fought smart. Optheli needs to head back home. That green of hers needs attention now. Do you want to stay or go with her? Don't take offense, but Toulonth might be hard pressed to help the bigger dragons."

Scarath turned his head to Toulonth and rumbled comfortingly. That is excellent to hear. Dynith was not so luck. He knew His worried about the pair.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Optheli glanced away as F'ren threw up to give him some privacy. Once he'd finished she waved to him with a smile.

S'ren had begun undoing his own rider's straps at the sight of F'ren's heaving, but he and Tereth were further off from the pair and the bronzerider had made it there long before he could. It wasn't until he started the climb down to the ground that he realized just how drenched in sweat that he really was. That they all were. It had been a long and hard battle, and the flames used to sear the Thread had left the air above sweltering for a good while. The occasional blinks Between had helped, but the cold nothingness was only a very temporary relief in the midst of battle. Of course, the fact that it could ever even be thought of as a relief was more than a little worrisome in of itself. "Is everyone here alright?" he asked to F'ren and S'kor, looking over the smallish group of Trine riders that had gathered thus far. There was definitely some Threadscore present, but such was to be expected in the midst of all of this.

Tereth gave a low rumble of greeting to the gathered dragons, eyes whirling a miserable grey from the death that surrounded them. Mine and myself are willing to help in whatever way that we can. We know not which have made it home and which have flown Between, but if we stay together we can know which losses we must later mourn. Even if the temptation to mourn now was fiercely strong, it was not yet the time. This loss was not theirs alone to bear.

-----------------

S'koi and Laith had followed behind S'ren and Tereth to the main Trine grouping, though both remained silent. Laith had earlier said all that they had to say, and now both had simply fallen to listening, watching, observing. One key point that they both noticed was continued division amongst the Weyrs' riders: Trine gathering with Trine, Malvren with Malvren, and Benden with Benden. It was a natural thing, perhaps, but not one that S'koi was happy to see. There is no division among the dead, he thought softly, brown eyes momentarily caught in the hold of the burned and barely recognizable riders and dragons. He had not wanted to see death; not again.

All die, S'koimine, the green replied in private, turning her head to give an affectionate nudge.

Not all die before their time. This, this had been no one's time. No one present here should have died today. No one. He barely even knew most of those lost, but it still hurt. He wanted to go home.

And I will take us home. Let's just wait here a few minutes longer at least.

The greenrider nodded numbly. He could hold it together for another few minutes at least. Surely that was not such an impossible task.

----------------------------------

Crystal had managed to find one fallen rider who was still alive, but only just barely. His wounds were too great to survive a trip Between. "I am sorry," she said quietly to the dying man. "I cannot help you." But with his dragon dead beside him chances were that he would not want to be saved even if she could. So many riders committed suicide once their partners were gone, and she could hardly blame them.

Mine, it appears that most of the living have already left, Argenth remarked, noting the quickly disappearing dragons around them. Perhaps we might be of more help to the rest back at the Weyr.

Fair enough, she replied, carefully making her way back over to the silver. She turned to address the crimsonrider before climbing back atop of her partner though. "Kleos, the Weyr must be in a small state of chaos right now. Shall we return and report to the higher-ups before helping tend to the injured?" Though phrased as a question, it was actually more of a suggestion. There was not much left here aside from the dead or those too close to death to be transported. And while she wished there was someway to help... Well, she was certainly no healer, nor did she have any of the necessary supplies on her. Willpower could only carry one so far at times.
