"I..I know its not true laughter," Mitsu admitted softly, a hint of guilt in her voice. "Real laughter doesn't make you feel odd, it should make you feel good. Happy."
She faltered a bit when he asked why she liked to hear it so much. If he didn't understand the concept behind laughing he probably wouldn't be able to make sense of the way her mind was working and wrapping around it. Mitsu could hear his laugh and for a moment pretend everything was right with the world. That Shun was happy and they were safe but that really was a dream wasn't it? They weren't safe and there wasn't much that even brought a smile to her reaper's face.
"It's..hard to explain." She started, tilting her head up to look Shun in the face. "Seeing you smile makes me happy and hearing you laugh it... well...it doesn't really matter. It wasn't real." Her voice trailed off until she finally asked. "What do you think of when I laugh or smile?"

Shun turned towards Mitsu as she tried to explain. The first thing she said, he had trouble relating to, seeing how he couldn't even remember when the last time he laughed was. If ever. Not including tickly times. And it seemed that she didn't really have much of an answer either.
"I enjoy it. Your smile is like the moonlight in the darkness," he said quietly.
There was no amount of logic he could put into it for it to make sense. At least to him. But that was the gist of it.
"I don't really understand it, but I do enjoy it."

Mitsu hadn't expected Shun to say something quite so poetic in response. It left her wondering if she should have had a better explanation for how it made her feel. Or at least something that wasn't her just trying to live in a dream world.
"I enjoy your smile too and I still hope to hear you laugh one day. For real." She made sure to add that so that he didn't think she was just going to pop up behind him randomly to tickle him into a laughing fit. Mitsu wanted to know that there was something out there that would amuse him enough to make him laugh. It made her wonder what it would be. Surely there was something. She wanted to cling to that hope.

"Perhaps one day... If the capacity is still within me," Shun replied quietly. It was definitely something he was certain of. It was something others had wondered about as well. Did he find anything funny or humorous? It was very difficult to tell.
"Hopefully I won't be a disappointment," he added before pausing at the last word, thinking it over for a few moments in silence. It was resonating with him fairly loudly right now.

Mitsu smiled then, leaning up to plant another kiss on Shun's lips. "You're never a disappointment. Whether you laugh or not I still love you." She snuggled in a little closer then, resting her head on his shoulder.
"So don't worry about it okay?" It was nothing worth dwelling over. Laughing should happen naturally, besides....there wasn't much to laugh about at the moment. It would have been nice to have been able to pretend for a moment. Oh well. "You should probably rest for a bit. I'll be right here." Mitsu reassured.

Shun felt like he could argue with that first statement, but he didn't say anything in that regard. No. Disappointment was something he was all too familiar with. Letting out a breath, he nodded quietly to his wolf before settling back down. Yes. Rest sounded good right about now. He had a lot to think about, as well as a lot to do.
Many things had been turned on their heads lately and in not a very pleasant fashion.
