Kiran followed Viola out of the pyramid at a more leisurely pace, now that he knew for sure that she was leading him out and not into depths unknown or something. The light was still extremely harsh to the eyes after that darkness, of course, no matter how slowly he exited the pyramid, but he was able to shield from the light at least a little!
“Oh, I must be the luckiest thoughts in the world,” he said in a dry voice as the last of him slipped clear of the exit. “You too. So lucky to get to tag along with me while I go about my exacting standards for a sleeping spot.” He looked around the desert, making a mental review of what he remembered of the land. He’d been out here for long enough to know about the cold, and also figured a good way to get around it. Sand held the heat from the sun and could be made into a decent nest. Rocks held heat better and were a bonus if he could fine those, but as long as he could get out of the wind then sand would do.

With a playful flick of her tail, Viola padded up to Kiran and nudged his cheek with her nose, grinning. She didn't mind his grumpy self, she actually found him quite fun to be around! He was glancing about, probably for a place to sleep. Well, she had an idea already, if he'd listen.
"We could sleep in the pyramid? Or make a nest in the sand, but then you shouldn't leave the sand until morning." Bright yellow eyes viewed him curiously, tail twitching in a gentle rhythm, almost like a clock, and she waited for his answer.
Was Junko worried? Was Viola screwing up again? These thoughts made her freeze, yellow eyes glancing off towards the lowering sun with a frown. Was she being selfish once more? Was she being that small child who only took and acted without thinking or caring? But.... now she did care. Now she was older, more mature, and she cared so much! Yet....
She shook those thoughts mentally, viewing Kiran and focusing on her new friend, or he was her friend in her mind. No time for sulking!

Kiran instantly shook his head, giving the pyramid a somewhat distasteful glance. “I don’t like being shut in,” he explained to Viola. “I didn’t like where I grew up cause there were so many trees you couldn’t even see the sky except where some had fallen from storms. It felt like I was being stifled. I just don’t like beings in places where I can’t see the sky.”
If the pyramid had a more obvious opening somewhere it might not have been so bad. He’d slept in caves before after all, wide-mouthed things that didn’t give him that trapped feeling as long as he didn’t go too far back in them. That pyramid was just way too closed up for him to ever relax enough to fall asleep.
“Could always dig a nest outside the pyramid,” he said, examining the rock. It held heat from the day after all, and combined with the sand could keep one cozy once the night became chilly. He didn’t think he’d want to live near the thing, but staying for a night wouldn’t be so bad.

Nodding, the vixen padded up right beside the male and nudged his cheek, once, before pawing at the sand. Easy enough! They'd have a nice place to sleep before it got dark. Climbing onto the rock, she flicked her tail around its base and puffed her chest out.
"Get to work!" She barked before a giggle escaped her, leaping off the rock and beginning to dig, using her tail to sweep sand aside like a broom as her paws worked. They'd have to make it big! No.... wait, daddy told her that would make it too big and they'd lose warmth a long time ago. They'd need to share body warmth, which meant snuggling~ Oh wonderful! She hadn't snuggled someone in a long, long, long time! Lets just hope daddy or mommy doesn't see, daddy would freak so bad and mommy would be thrilled!

Kiran rolled his eyes, but bent to work without a murmur of complaint or even a sarcastic quip. Viola jumped down from the rock she’d been perching on and began to help him expand the little hole he’d already made. It was cramped and she was a mite too enthusiastic about the digging for his taste, but she was managing to be helpful so he didn’t comment on that either.
Just where the heck did the vixen get all her energy though? Was she solar-powered or something? That would certainly explain a lot!
It wasn’t long before the pair had a decently comfortable next scooped out. Kiran looked up at Viola, a way to use her energy springing to mind. “Go see if you can find some small rocks. Nothing bigger than your head at most. Bring them here and pile them close by. I’ll be digging a little more.” A thought occurred to him and he fixed her with a fierce, hawk-like stare. “Don’t just go grabbing at the rocks either. Snakes like to sun on them or take shade under them, so be careful about what you approach.”

Nodding at his demand, she smiled innocently back at his stare. "Are you worried? It's okay! I learned my lesson!" She squeaked and bounded off being Kiran could protest or respond, tail wagging enthusiastically as she searched for rocks as he has requested. By the time she reached the rocks she had fixed a firm, determined pout on her face. Do not grab rocks, check first! Be careful! She must make Kiran proud! Puffing her chest out, for once the vixen avoided trouble and return with a few decent sized rocks, dumping into a pile and running back off.
When she had enough she returned with her tail dragging a rock and her nose pushing another forward, as she had originally. Dumping them where they belonged she grinned at Kiran, ears raised and tail twitching happily.
"There! I did it and didn't even cause any trouble."

Kiran grunted, but made up for his lack of response by reaching out and giving Viola’s hair an approving ruffle. He’d dug their little pit a bit deeper while she’d been working, and as she brought the rocks to him he’d taken the sun-warmed objects and carefully arranged them down in the bottom of the nest. It would have worked better if he could have had a fire over them to heat them further, but the heat from the sun would keep them warm enough. They wouldn’t be miserable, anyway.
As Viola laid down the last rocks and Kiran transferred them over to the nest, they had a fairly decent covering laid out. She’d done better than he’d expected. “This’ll add warmth and give up something a bit more solid to sleep on than shifting sands,” Kiran explained and he carefully scooped some sand he’d cast aside back on the rocks to cover them up, providing a bit of cushioning.

Eyes closing when his paw raised, she didn't expect a hit but she hadn't expected the ruffle in response. Her tail wagged, head raising to view the other with a tilt of the head. Approval? That was enough to please the sweet vixen, not needing words or more show.
Watching the male work, Viola considered home once more. She didn't quite want to go back yet. Tomorrow was another day and she wasn't ready to go back to her tribe. She liked spendindg time with the grumpy Kiran. He was a lot nicer than most would think, she noticed the little things the male did for her. Yes, he was a little grump, but Viola was hyper enough for the both of them! It wasn't everyday she made friends, and it wasn't everyday she met a fox that wasn't considered family. The last one had been a male 'Phim she hadn't seen in a long, long time.
"You better not roll over and smother me." She teased, nudging his cheek playfully before flopping onto her stomach and pawing at the sand gently. He didn't know it, but she was a snuggler when sleeping!

Kiran snorted in response, too busy smoothing out the sand to his liking, occasionally adding more when he thought an area was a bit too sparse or shoveling it towards the sides when he thought it was a bit too thick to get an actual benefit from the rocks buried underneath it. If it had been possible for him to roll over in his sleep and smother someone, he’d be an only child.
Okay, maybe not an only child. Odi had been way too big for him to smother, even if he’d deliberately been trying, and he’d never met his other half sibs. Given how Odi, Rei, and even Chandra had just seemed to have vanished though, it would have been a wasted effort anyway. No wonder Avatre was so freakin’ overprotective of him…
“I sleep way too lightly to accidently do anything, let alone smother anyone,” he finally commented as he worked. The small hint of a smile could be either reassuring or just a tad bit disturbing.

Content with that answer, the vixen flicked her tail to assist him. When she considered the job done the vixen flopped onto her side beside the make shift bed, fixing any sand that fluttered in when she flopped, and folded her paws over one another. Strange yellow eyes viewed him, ears flicking in thought. She rested her head onto her paws, letting out a gentle sigh.
Today had been fun. Junko would either freak when she came home or simply greet her. Ever since Junko fell in love and learned emotions the two had been distant. Viola was given a new life that she both requested and feared. Her parents were busy considering new children, and her other siblings were distracted by either one another or their mates. Heck, one of her sisters adopted a son!
Life had stayed still for Viola. She hasn't had anything new stumble into her life. Any man that had stolen her heart had vanished long ago. She was alone, though at times she didn't mind it when she got to bring home herbs or attend to her mother. Then, her angel came. An angel who growled at the nicknames she gave and yet stayed put despite his grumpy protests and grumbles. He was fun!
"Thanks for playing with me today." Viola murmured tiredly, yawning after she spoke. Her voice was calm for once, eyes closing as she listened to Kiran fret over sand.

Kiran simply shrugged by way of answer. He wasn’t quite tired yet, the physical exertion of creating the den had only left his muscles pleasantly tingling. Not even a true work-out by his standards. He picked out the likeliest-looking spot for sleeping and sat, making himself comfortable by simply wiggling a bit until the sand had shifted to conform to his shape. His own eyes glowed eerily in the fading light, shining like a dimly-lit room full of gold.
He’d never been able to see how his own eyes looked, but Chandra had made a face and said the deeper colors made him look older and a bit more like he knew what he was doing. She’d said it like it was a bad thing though, and given that it was his sister he wasn’t sure whether to believe her.
“I don’t play,” he finally said after he’d settled and turned his eyes out to the desert, watching for predators. “I challenge life every day, and I kick butt. Playing’s for little kids or people who can’t fight.”

She rolled her eyes in response, curling up inside the hole and stretching deep into the sand. She cast a glare towards the male, though playful in its nature, and nudged his side with her nose. He was serious!
"Oh shh. It's just me, I won't tell anyone you played with me." She playfully teased, throat releasing a slight giggle. She viewed the male quietly before closing her eyes, deciding to stay awake if he wished to speak. She noticed he was watching for predators, perhaps she should do the same. She almost made a remark about scorpions, biting her tongue. She'd scare herself if she started! Still, scorpions weren't too scary. Not by far. It was snakes she worried about!
Watch the male be surprised if vultures were circling in the morning. She hadn't seen them before.... But her father had told stories of them!

Kiran shrugged. “It’s not others I’m really worried about you telling, since they know nothing about me and their opinions really don’t matter. The only one I’d care if you told is currently deep in a forest and about as far away from us as she can get at this moment. Therefore this is me, not caring.”
His eyes were curious and just a tad puzzled though as he watched Viola. It was strange, this female and how she acted. Like everything was a giant joke or whimsically magical. How on earth did she learn to view the world like that and survive? The world was harsh, and very often unforgiving. He’d plowed his way through plenty of places that proved that to him. Even if his attitude was a bit more humorless, everyone he’d met seemed to know that truth.
What was it that made this female so different? Was the world she lived in really so full of wonder?
“I’m not really one for laughing either,” he stated, looking at Viola to see what the female would make his words into.

His response caused a slight laugh to escape her mouth. Well, wasn't he funny? She was tempted to just pounced him and chew his ears until he begged for mercy, but instead she settled for whapping him with her tail (gently, of course) and nuzzled into the sand.
"You know, you should laugh more." She murmured, remembering the sound he had made back in the pyramid. Tired, the vixen was beginning to struggle between sleep and staying awake to talk to her new friend, bright yellow eyes opening to view the male beside her with an interest most would not display. Perhaps he was grumpy, and perhaps he may send others off, but she found a side to him she quite enjoyed and honestly that grumpy demeanor was refreshing. It was new, and fun to work to get those rare smiles and slight chuckles. He was a good male, someone who saved strangers and shared their makeshift bed at night.
"I like your laugh. It makes you sound cute." Ah, only Viola could say such things with a serious expression. She closed her eyes, tail wagging twice before curling around her form. "'Course, you're a badass who kicks butt. But you sound nice when you laugh. I like it."

Kiran flushed an interesting color. Not that he’d never been called cute before, but that was his sister mocking him and trying to get a rise out of him. This was a female who was entirely unrelated to him and sounded completely serious. It was a first for him, and as this was someone he didn’t despise he wasn’t really sure how to react to her words.
“Just stick with the badass who kicks butt when you’re describing me. It’s far more accurate,” was what he finally managed in a gruff voice, rolling over on his side so that Viola couldn’t see him or his face. He laid there for a moment, letting the silence wash over them both and soothe away his embarrassment to leave a slight sense of wonder. Not at being called cute, but that someone told him they liked his laugh. Granted not many ever got to hear it, but it was still another first…
“Thank you,” he released into the cooling desert air, not sure even who he was thanking but feeling it had to be said. With that his mind released him into peaceful unconsciousness where he dreamed of flashing gold and hints of blue, purple and green weaving around silken whispers.
