"Um, well," he said slowly trying to keep his eyes trained on the path in front of him and the mare's swishing tail. "I...I'm actually trying not to see things. Sometimes when I focus, and think really hard about nothing, I see nothing," he continued quietly. "But if I look up and look around then I see..." he raised his eyes and stumbled as the roots of the trees lining the path seemed to reach for him. "Woah!" he leaped ahead and bumped into her roughly.

"Hey! Whoa! Careful there! What did you see?" she asked, looking toward the trees swaying gently in the breeze.

"Trees..." he said closing his eyes and trying to focus on blackness, nothing, breathing, anything that wasn't what he saw. "Reaching out for us - well, not the trees, but the roots...maybe a few branches..."

"Nope, nothing reaching for us," Zahavah chirpped. "Just a tree."

"...You're sure?" he asked with more than a little uncertainty as he peeked through his heavy lids. The roots were still stretching and reaching, "You don't see anything at all?"

"Nope, just a tree. See?" she danced closer to it and kicked the trunk.

His ears heard the sound of a tree, a plain ordinary tree by all accounts, and his eyes tried to see past the...whatever it was. Illusion, demons, malevolent spirits haunting his waking hours - the usual - but if he watched that spot that made the hollow sound he cold almost see the tree for...the forest. Or something like that. Still.... "And you're SURE there's no branchy tentacles coming out of it?"

"Nope! Just an ordinary tree! Maybe if you closed your eyes it might be better? Or do you hear whispery things too?"

"Some times..." he admitted slowly. "Some times I hear things as well. It wouldn't be as realistic if I didn't, would it? But if I'm distracted, not that I often have things to distract me, but when I do...well, it's not so bad then. And right now..." he paused considering the atmosphere for a moment. "Well honestly I don't hear anything out of the ordinary." With that acknowledgement the tree's image seemed to blur until it faded into your average, everyday tree. Ok, that was interesting.

"We should so totally experiment with that! Try taking away one of your senses at a time and see how bad the hallucinations get..." her eyes sparkled with the idea of that.

"Um," Pavlov gulped and took a few nervous steps backwards. "Maybe we could just stick with meeting new Soquili? Yes, yes...I think that would be a ...a very good idea!" He nodded in further support of what now seemed like a wonderful idea by comparison. "So, um, which way to the water? We have sea monsters to see and such..."

"Oh yeah...." She pondered then chose a direction. "I guess we should take it one step at a time. Get a basis for what it's like with all your senses, then we'll filter it down!"

"Oh yes," Pavlov agreed quickly springing at an out when he saw one. And heard one. And felt one. And...smelt one for all the good it would do him. No, losing access to any of his sense was almost a more frightening idea than dealing with his...unique um, gift? No, that wasn't quite right. Curse? That sounded a little more like it. Affliction, yes he liked that. His affliction was bad but at least it was an evil he was used to. He couldn't imaging dealing with it without the use of all his facualties. It was bad enough with them, how much worse could it be if he couldn't hear or smell. "Although closing my eyes does sometimes help..." he murmured thoughtfully under his breath.

Pavlov stumbled and almost fell to the ground, a shocking feat since he no longer saw or sensed those twisted roots reaching for him. No, this was plain, old shock and clumsiness. "Excuse me, what?" he asked in mild shock, certain he couldn't have heard her correctly.
