The moment the door shut behind Izaya Frost floored the accelerator. Ashen-faced, hands trembling very slightly, he shifted up into second gear, third, forth and turned onto a narrow road that led East. The area around the Outpost was hardly up market and so he doubted there would be any concerned citizens to offer directions to the police. If they he could get a bit further, slow, and melt into the traffic heading out of the city they might just be safe. His ribs hurt like all heck, one area being of particular of particular note; the two ribs that had actually broken against the Ariados were extremely unhappy with him. Hopefully the pain would die down again soon; he could put it aside, but the effort of doing so cost him concentration that he would prefer to be applying to driving.

"Have you got your seatbelt on?" Frost asked after a moment, putting the car into a casual power-slide to round a corner. "I am not intending to crash into anything, but if I do I would prefer not to have you fly out of the windshield."

"Do you really think you should be driving with that kind of damage?" Nakura asked, noticing Frost's trembling hands and recalling the injury he had suffered. That combined with whatever was hindering him due to the metal Ariados couldn't have been easily bearable. He ignored the other grunt's question about the seatbelt, but offered something of an answer with a click of the belt's buckle.

"You should have said something earlier, Frost. I hadn't guessed they had sent you on a lowly mission like this because of your injuries. Unless you've been keeping those a secret from them too," he added sharply. "Exactly how hurt are you? Sure, you can go around pretending to play soldier and bearing it for however long you like, but you'll be no good to anyone if you just suddenly collapse from the mental strain. In example, while driving a getaway vehicle with a passenger."

"I did say something earlier," Frost replied, pursing his lips slightly as he negotiated another tight bend, "it was one of the first things I said to you, and I quote; 'If it is interest and excitement you are looking for, you should try to sign up for a proper mission. I went on very recently; I was flung into a giant mechanical Ariados at high velocity by a Seed Flare attack.' It would not exactly have been possible for me to keep my injuries secret from the others on that mission even if I had wished to, which I had not because it would have been illogical. Anyway, to answer one of your questions: I broke two ribs and cracked three more, but I think they have healed enough not to have shifted out of place or anything like that. To answer the other: do I think I should be driving? Not in an ideal world, but this is not an ideal world and so I shall have to cope. Besides," Frost glanced over his shoulder at the younger man, "you are hardly in top condition yourself by the looks of it. At least I am not bleeding profusely; my arm will probably have stopped bleeding by the time we make it back to base, it is a minor annoyance compared to my ribs. As it was running around that was causing me pain chances are that as time wears on my condition will improve, and it is quite certain that yours will deteriorate. In light of these facts, I think it is better that I drive even if it is not ideal."

Claire had gained too much altitude to hear any of Izaya's yells or screams of retaliation - though he looked hilarious flailing and screaming incoherently at her out of the window - and it seemed Frost would be fine driving. Satisfied with this, she urged Odette higher to maneuver around the city to avoid any chance the police might follow them. She would circle around the mountains if she had to. It would take a great deal more time, but if she had to, then she'd do it. She, unlike Izaya, took no chances in regards to the police.

Bracing himself against the back seat as Frost made the turn, Nakrua rolled his eyes. "I remember that. Jeez, you're such a freak, quoting yourself word for word. What I don't remember is anything about broken or cracked ribs. What do you mean, you think? You're not even sure if they've healed at all?" He grinned painfully. "For all you know, they could have dislocated and punctured your organs by now. For someone so structured and logical, you sure behave stupidly."

He whimpered as he fell back against his seat by the force of the car. "Would you please keep your eyes on the road? I hardly feel safe with a crippled driver as it is. And it's just blood." Grimacing, he maneuvered himself as carefully as he could to remove his blood-stained hoodie. "The bullet went through my hood, my jacket, and my shirt before it struck skin. The wound itself is shallow. And I know for a fact I don't have any broken ribs." He frowned. "So pull over and let me drive. We've probably already lost them."

"Nonsense," Frost replied, actually going so far as to roll his eyes too, "a few simple layers of cloth do no slow bullets. If they did, guns would hardly be very threatening now would they? If you are not feeling it yet you must be in shock, unless your jacket includes kevlar? Mmh, no, it would have be far heavier for that to be the case. Returning to the subject of my ribs, I know that they were healing well. The chances of my recent exertions having caused the healing bones to shift is extremely slim, though I must admit it exists. In any case, as it is 'just blood' they are 'just ribs', and I have no intention of letting you drive. If you don't like it feel free to jump out of the car, but please try to close the door behind you on your way out." Accusation of stupidity, another crime for the list. He would tear out that smart little tongue, and those grinning white teeth too.

((I'm having trouble envisaging Izaya's injuries; from what I read back in their being chased it sounded like he was hit full on dead below the shoulder which is very serious, and so that's the observation Frost is going with here. If I've misinterpreted please feel free to correct me. ^^))

((Very sorry for the confusion. He's most likely lying about his injury, especially since he assumes Frost hasn't seen it nor can he see it while he's driving. That also may have been one reason why he told Frost to keep his eyes focused on the road instead of him; because he didn't want him finding out it was a direct hit and because he's working off the idea that Frost is only making his observation based on the amount of blood.

He knows Frost missed the part about the Arcanine and that since he was ahead of him, probably didn't see where he got shot. Besides the driving issue, he wouldn't want Frost to know he was distracted enough to be hit dead on in the back out of personal dignity. Does that make sense, or should I fix things? I'm not sure if Frost saw anything else to confirm his suspicious other than the amount of blood he mentioned.))

Ah, well. So much for that idea. Frost had seen right through it and the loss of blood wasn't allowing Izaya to conceive a better excuse. In the meantime, he merely focused his attention on comprehending Frost's words. Though the heavy, furry pokemon that had been on top of him had been left far behind, beads of sweat still trickled down his face. Oh, he did so dislike being sweaty. With an impassive countenance, the grunt opened the door of the moving vehicle and slammed it shut.

((^^ That makes sense, just checking I wasn't mistaken! <3 ))

When there was no more argument Frost gave a nod of satisfaction. "Try not to bleed too much on the upholstery," he instructed, "blood is terribly difficult to get out you know... You are probably right on one score, I think we have lost them. I will head north now." Out of the city, onto the main road, and then off again as soon as possible so that he could go as fast as he liked. He needed to get Izaya back to base before he expired; blood on the seat was one thing, but a corpse was quite another... The police had got in so easily.

"Did they know our access codes?" Frost wondered aloud. "Surely everything known to 'Will' would have been changed... Oh, Will was Lance." He wasn't phrasing this very well; copious amounts of pain, adrenaline, and racing thoughts did not lead to eloquence. "Lance was working under cover under the guise of 'Will', he revealed himself a short while ago," the pallid man went on, hoping that talking would help to focus his attention on the world around him, "he did guard duties I believe so even though he was only a grunt he had access to some information like codes... but they must have been changed. As I wondered earlier, do we have another Will? I wonder if the police managed to catch anyone. I do hope not, we don't need any more security leaks."

Frost's instructions were met with humorless laughter. "Yes, of course; I think I'll only bleed .23 pints of blood. That way it'll be fresh and shallow enough to wash off with soap by the time we get back to headquarters," he spoke with feigned peppiness. His smile wavered along every bump in the road, though, tensing with each movement that made the pain of the bullet wound more evident. He gripped the head of the front seat tight with one hand, binding his jacket around his injured side with the other.

"Ah, so that was the Lance they were talking about," he murmured, keeping his mind distracted with Frost's explanation, prior events, and the causes. "Still...impressive an outsider could get so far in undetected. It seems unlikely there could be two, especially if one is already apprehended. I'm certain our boss would have taken extra security measures after finding out there was a traitor in his midst." He rested his chin on the shoulder of Frost's chair, finding it was the only semi-comfortable position he could get in without touching his back to the back of the seat.

"Do you think that perhaps Lance might have contacted them earlier with the code in case something like his capture occurred? They might have known the location from the outpost for a while, but refrained from breaking in in order to keep from blowing Lance's cover. Since I'm betting they probably haven't heard from him for sometime, though, that might have been the excuse they were waiting for to get in and either retrieve him or bargin for his return."
PostPosted: Sun Apr 24, 2011 7:36 pm

"Good boy," Frost responded absently to the comment about blood; his mind had rather moved on from that now and his words were reflexive rather than considered. "I have no doubt he sent out a lot of information," he went on, "but I would presume that once he was discovered - as you say - security will have been tightened, including changing any codes he might have had access to... Did he manage to access things that we never found out about, or manage to plant some kind of bugging device somewhere?... Yes though, that was what they wanted, they wanted him returned... I wonder if they thought he was being held there or if it was just far easier to attack than base and they hoped to take bargaining pieces? What could they already be finding out about our operation right now?"

How had this happened? How had the other Rockets escaped? He tried to remember if there had been any other cars around when they entered the base or any sign or recent tyre tracks when they left, but for once his memory failed him.

"In any case, however they got in there, Boss is going to be extremely annoyed," Frost predicted. "I certainly would not like to be the one in charge of security for the Outpost right now."

Just then a few beeping sounds happened coming from Frost's 'Dex. The noise didn't stop and it was clear it was an incoming communication call from someone...
PostPosted: Sun Apr 24, 2011 7:54 pm

There he went, calling him 'boy' again. It didn't really seem to make much difference under the current circumstances, however, so Izaya didn't bother to comment on it. "True, the codes probably would have been changed, so unless Lance managed to predict the next codes or had found them out since they had been put into effect, there should have been no way the cops could have gotten in.Someone before suggested that the officers had been planning the break-in for some time, but how would that have been possible with different codes? Is there maybe another way around the system, or another entrance?"

So many questions, so few answers. "It sounded like they thought we had him right there. Maybe they still don't know about the main base. Or maybe that's the only area they have access to. Perhaps they believe that is headquarters." He sighed. "I suppose that won't last long now, since they have access to all the outpost's information. And you're right - we might be better off than security. But then again, they weren't likely running for their lives with broken ribs while being shot at." Grunt Nakura snickered. "Nice stick-skills, by the way. I think you might have tickled that Arcanine if you'd bothered to use it."

He released Frost's chair in surprise as the 'dex began to beep, hitting his head and back against the seat. "Itai," he gasped, sitting up instantly. "Who's that, now? Some angry superior?" Grabbing for the device, he flipped it open uncertainly, having never really used such a thing for communication before, though he had been briefed about it in training. "Hello?" he spoke. "This is Grunt Frost's 'dex. He's a little occupied at the moment," he added, glancing at his driving companion. "Can I take a message?" The sweetness in his voice was mocking.

"Mmmh?" Beep beep? This was hardly the time. He'd better answer it though, he supposed. After checking around for other cars or possible obstacles, Frost retrieved his dex from his pocket and glanced at it. "No, not an angry superior," he replied as he pressed the button to answer the call and set the dex in his lap so that he had both hands for driving again, "it's my roommate. Xander, I do hope this is important; I find myself rather busier than I had anticipated this afternoon."

"Frost you better tell me your unharmed." Came Xander's voice suddenly. It had a very icey quality to it that he had never used with Frost before. It wasn't that he was mad with Frost, just that he was extremely mad about him having been over where the teen had just learned there was a police raid. "Did you get out before the police showed up? Did you get caught in any fighting?" What Frost and Izaya didn't know was Xander was pacing back in forth at the garage entrance at the base, Conrad and Zack at his heels.

"My, someone's concerned," Izaya murmured as he heard Xander's voice on the line. "You really are as cold as your codename if you're going to react like that to your roommate's call, Frosty-chan. He was only worried about you." A taunting smirk played on the brunette grunt's lips. He took in the tone of the new voice and the tiny inflections that made it distinctive from any other. With those, he could assume the emotions of the speaker and create a mental picture of their expression. It kept his mind off more stressful things, anyway.

Uttering a low chuckle, Izaya turned away to look out the window. "If you'd like some private time, I can always go temporarily deaf," he told Frost.
