In the midst of the fog, Professor Blue was up on the deck with the crew. It was not the time for usual antics, no, it was time for song. There was no getting out of it. Blue insisted they all sing, or take a bath overboard. The gnomes really didn't want to take a bath, or have to be fished out of the water and they sang along. It seemed to go well, until one gnome thought he would be a star and started to sing so loudly that soon a school of fish swam up to the ship and offered them safe passage through the fog in a day sooner than they expected if they stopped that gnome from singing.

Alwine looked over at Mac before gesturing a quick hand to the Professor. Once the song was finished and the fish made their deal, Alwine leaned over to Mac and whispered: "I think... Professor Blue... well, from the class I had with him... he seems not-so-nice. He delighted in giving students their least-favorite instrument, and he had a very gleeful face when he saw how miserable we all seemed to be. I made the mistake of being happy about my instrument-- I don't want to give him any more reason to punish me."

She was so distracted that her cleaning job was less-than-stellar.

"Thanks for helping out with the swabbing, you two. I really appreciate it..."

GM EVENT POST: DAY 3

After the earlier event that ended up with one gnome nearly being thrown overboard and a school of fish bribing The Lady in Red to stop the gnome that could not sing from singing by offering them safe passage through the fog a day earlier than expected, Blue seemed in good spirits. He had come to terms with the fact that although getting to their destination a day earlier could mean he would have less time alone with the students, it also meant he could see Professor Red sooner. It was a compromise, he'd have to take what he got right now to get something really good later.

This didn't prevent Professor Blue from insisting they fish up the fish that had so gratefully guided them in the direction. Perhaps if they caught one of those fish they'd throw them back in but for now they would fish. It was a nice activity. It was almost on par with students singing. Either way, they resulted in getting an extra 50 food. It was a good thing too, because Professor Blue was about to stop feeding the students.

"He gave you the cello, right?"

Rosc hadn't even turned from his task to ask the question, but it carried well enough over the myriad of sailing noises. Why did he ask, he wasn't even sure. Truth be told, he respected Blue, more or less. Sure, the musically inclined demon had a few screws loose, but he'd been understanding with the little undead ghoul. And Rosc could even understand why Blue would pick far down the list. He had put cello, string-and-bowed instruments, piano first because he knew them. No doubt the music professor had picked things that he hoped his students didn't know how to play at all, to teach them a completely new form of music. He could almost forgive the assignment of the harp.
Almost.

One hand moved to his pocket to turn his music down a bit. The slow string quartet was making him miss his room, miss the song he'd been working on.

"He did!" Alwine whirled around so fast that if she had had a head, she would've had an "Exorcist" moment. "I must admit, it was generous of him to not give me a wind instrument. I even thanked him. However... I am wary of him... the look on his face..."

Or maybe she was unnerved because of how easily she had fallen to his charms. Or maybe she was worried about Barth being stuck with a tuba all semester. Maybe she just hated upset faces... yeah, that was the answer she'd stick with.

"Granted, the trip has been rather pleasant thusfar. Of course, me being a ghost... I cannot get cold or hungry. So, I... ah... s-so sorry everyone..."
PostPosted: Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:14 pm

Rosc turned then, his back leaning against the rail he'd just polished, rag dangling from one hand.
"I don't know. I think he was trying to pick out instruments we were not... knowledgeable with. Hence not getting our first choices." It was an effort to do more than just nod and go back to his work. He wasn't prone to talking with others. He barely talked to anyone at home, even his mentor. Time with Nic had mostly been Nic talking and Rosc listening, or doing, depending on the situation. His brother-figure was probably the only one who had gotten more than a few-word responses out of the boil before coming to school. He'd gotten better about it in the last few weeks before coming to the academy, mostly because of his online conversations.

Besides, this ghoul was learning to play the cello. He didn't mind sharing some pointers with others, if they at least tried and treated the instrument with respect. It was why he had helped the undead ghoul by suggesting she ask for a smaller cello, and wasn't about to help that one boil, the one who had carelessly dropped the expensive instrument.

"I didn't know how to play any instrument..." Alwine shrugged. "I guess in the end it would be easier for him, but still... perhaps if he had just asked. I'm sorry, I'm not complaining. I think the cello was my... third choice? I'm very happy, it has such a nice deep ring to it."

Alwine was oblivious to his disinterest. When it came to someone being uncomfortable, she was either oblivious or overreacted with a million apologies. There was no in-between.

"So, what instrument did you get? I was trying so hard to play mine that I didn't really get a chance to see what other people got... well, except for that siren..."

She tried not to cringe at the memory.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:53 pm

Rosc figured she wasn't the only one who didn't know how to play any instrument. That's why there was a music class, right? He had only taken it in the hopes that he would learn a bit more about his preferred instrument. Now it looked like he would be instead learning something he could later teach to Sin, if she still wanted to learn.

It was nice to know someone had an actual interest and appreciation for the cello. It really was a great instrument. He'd learned that anything larger was just too deep. They fit more into the harmony that anything else, were more of a background instruments, while the cello could be background or center in a piece.

"Harp. Not too bad, I suppose. I know a bit of playing a plucked instrument from my early cello lessons and the string set-up is not that different from a piano's," he explained with a small shrug, excluding the part about how ghouly the thing was. Absolutely nothing sounded epic on a harp, no matter how difficult the song was. He also didn't look forward to the aching fingers and possible cuts or sores he could get from not having the right form.

He visibly flinched at the mention of the siren. He had never dreamed someone could sound that bad.

The cleaning finished, Arachne headed back on deck, going over to the rail that ran around the length of said deck and leant on it, the breeze ruffling through her bobbed hair. So far, apart from almost freezing after an unexpected dip in the water, the journey hadn't been too bad, and she had yet to feel sea sick, so maybe she wasn't going to.

She leant a little over the railing, peering down into the murky depths, watching the boat cut through the waves, but she kept a firm grip on the wood, not wishing to go in again were something to happen. Standing up straight, she looked back the way they had come, wondering how her Skitter was doing without her, and how Sin and Elizabeth were faring on their boats.

Blue was sitting on the railing, watching the students interact. His hair tossed in the wind, swaying back and forth over the edge of the ship. He was looking at the students, looking at you, rather intensely. You knew what time it was. It was time for the big song and dance number.

Yes, that's right. It's time to sing some more. What did you expect? You're on Blue's ship, his jolly ship. Have you looked at it? It's clearly expecting to make some music from the people it ships. However, this game will be a little different. You can sing, or you can find things around the ship to make some music with. If it is part of the ship, don't think of removing it or face the wrath of the jolly ship. I hear its temper is just as bad as the one it is named after.

(( Describe how you're going to make music, singing or using things around the ship. This could include running to the kitchen and grabbing a pot and spoon to bang if you felt so inclined. It's happy hour, song and dance time. You know the consequences if Blue and his wrathful ship feel so inclined. Just remember, Blue loves you. He's doing this for your own good. You couldn't have expected a field trip to not include learning.

Roll 1-100 sided dice.

  • If you roll below a 25 then you trip over one of the ropes and have to play again.

  • If you roll under 50, a seagull flies down and sits on your head causing you to screw up.

  • Above 50 is a pass. Blue is finally watching you. This is your moment to shine. This is your final roll.

Highest number above that wins a prize!

This will end either when at least seven people enter, or I go to make the Daily GM Event. ))

Ah, that would explain it. So, Blue was the music teacher, hmm? It was the only explanation, since he couldn't think of anothe class with instruments to play. The Reaper looked thoughtful for a moment.

"You're welcome" He said to Alwine, and without skipping a beat, continued on. "So that makes you headless, and not just invisible?" It was a question he was dying to ask, and this seemed like the best opportunity, as she and the incubus had started to talk about various instruments. Then, a slight pause. "A Siren?" He couldn't resist noticing the look on Rosc's face. "...I thought Sirens could sing well?" It was more of a thought outloud than an actual question, but he was looking sidelong at the Demon Professor now, torn between resent and curiousity.

"Well...Seeing as we've got nothing else to do, and he IS a music teacher..." Mac started tapping the wooden end of his mop against the ground, in a fairly repetitive beat. They had been forced to sing once, so... "...Maybe we should make some noise?" He suggested, smiling a bit. Chances were they'd all fail at it, but all the more fun to irritate a Demon Musician!

It turned out, however, that Mac's random mop-tapping actually sounded pretty damned decent.

Arachne's mood soured slightly but she was game, albeit reluctantly so; of course, she had to be assigned to the one ship that would require a lot of musical input, something that she'd never excelled at so far.

She wasn't going to sing again, but she might as well make a fool of herself along with everyone else, and she vanished below deck into the kitchen, re-emerging with a wooden spoon and a metal pot.

Percussion really was the simplest, and she couldn't see herself fashioning an instrument more complicated than this, and with a tap of her booted foot on the floor she set off drumming, nodding along with her rhythm...and it didn't sound too bad, oh it was still just a spoon on a pot but it at least could be danced or sang to - kind of.

Apparently, cleaning had it's perks, because not only had Gabrian managed to entertain himself quite thoroughly, but he'd actually found a handful of rather interesting items and things. He was still trying to figure out how he'd stumbled across bent fishing hooks and old tin can's but... what seemed to be a ghost treat. He'd pocketed the treat and then carried the other stuff off onto the upper deck where he found he'd apparently been missing out on the actually good stuff.

Both Arachne and Mac seemed to be using random items to create music, and Blue was looking at them rather intently. Idly, he wished he'd brought his guitar with him. Alas, he'd left it downstairs, given the fact he hadn't really though that cleaning and playing music went hand in hand. Apparently he'd been wrong though, but then again, they were sailing on a ship captained by the Music teacher, so it made quite a fair amount of sense that it should all revolve around music.

Seeing as how he had no instrument (and he really didn't want to go fetch his), he decided to give singing a try. He knew he wasn't a bad singer given the fact, well, he was a nix. As such, he sang along to the tune created by the other students, his arms still carrying the tin cans and other useless items he'd encountered during his cleaning session. He made a point of lifting them slightly in the air, making a motion as if to ask what in Jack's name he was supposed to do with the garbage. Was he supposed to toss it overboard? Leave it? Pile it? What?

Ren was very much avoiding Gabrian, and for the most part he was succeeding. It had been several days now with Ren steering clear of the nix, pretending he was asleep when Gabrian awoke, and slipping in after the demon was already asleep to go to bed. A part of him felt ridiculously stupid for feeling the way he did, but Ren was too ashamed and seasick to really care at the current moment.

A few days out at sea now, and Ren was sitting up on deck again, bucket in his arms, feeling nauseated and rather miserable. He'd pulled is hair back in order to keep the unruly golden strands from getting in his face, but they seemed to whip out at random constantly, batting at his eyes. There were a few out with him; the headless ghoul, who Ren had learned was named Alwine, and Mac were both there, as well as the other ghoul, Arachne. Alwine and Mac seemed to be having some sort of conversation, and Ren was debating going over to talk with them, but he was not quite sure he could manage to work up enough energy to actually stand.

Blue, on the other hand, was watching them - somewhat creepily, Ren thought, eying the professor with a wary expression. That look is not a good look... He had long since learned that lesson, and sure enough, it seemed as if they were to...make music?

Whatever, Ren thought, and slowly stood, crossing the deck. He hummed a little tune on his way towards the others, patting out a little beat on his bucket, but unfortunately he was disturbed in his movements. One of Ren's feet caught in the boat's rigging and with a squawk Ren went flying, landing on the deck with a loud thump, his bucket rolling away. Humiliated, his face crimson, Ren slowly pushed himself up, crawling over to retrieve his pail before curling cross-legged on the wooden surface, hugging the bucket to his stomach. With a small sigh, his face still heated, Ren hummed a bit more, fingers tapping on the plastic surface of the bucket.

GM EVENT POST: DAY 4

Professor Blue had high expectations of his students and most of all: Gabrian. The demon was not disappointed as the nix demon out performed the rest of his students and successfully sang his song. He nodded to all of the other students as they performed, until a certain gryphon's feet were caught in the ropes of the ship and soon found himself falling on the deck of the ship with a loud thump and squawk. That certainly couldn't have been part of the show, and the captain couldn't help but smile as he seemed to handle it with a bit of optimism as he seen the tapping on the plastic surface of the bucket.

Pleased, he gave the ship a good pat, before he hopped off the railing and over to Ren. He offered him a helping hand up off the deck, along with a silver pumpkin seed for his efforts. After that he moved onto Mac who had used his mop in a way even Blue could approve of. It was a much better use of it than what the trick or treater had in mind. He smiled at the reaper and handed him a silver pumpkin seed as well.

"That's a good beat," he said to Arachne as he dropped a silver pumpkin seed onto the metal pot in front of her. "Next time, we'll have the gryphon over there dance to it."

Finally, he got to Gabrian. Gabrian was one of his top students, or at least, the demon had very high hopes for him. He expected very good things from him and fortunately for the nix, he was not disappointed. He had done very well for an impromptu music number and better than the rest. Best of all, he hadn't tripped over anything. He didn't say anything to him though, just giving him a smile before he walked away and went below deck. However, when the nix demon arrived back in his room he'd find a strange cube waiting for him.

It seemed that after Blue went to his cabin, the students's morale had risen. Perhaps they would have felt revitalized, but they already seemed to be at full HP.

(( Dark Fire Angel, please post your Mini Pet Site username so I can give you your prize. Enoh Love, Sayuri_Nitta and Kuro-Mizuki all won one silver pumpkin seed. Link to this post when redeeming. ))
