Tyco directed a small smile at Safiya's retreating back. She probably saw right through him, the two came from such similar pasts. It was sweet of her, but unnecessary. Tyco had wallowed in his melancholy long enough; the past was the past, and it was time he got over it. No matter how much it might hurt or how much he still did care for Mia, she was no longer a part of his life.
Rather than get up and go after Safiya though, Tyco decided to sit and just take in his surrounds. It had been a long journey, and the sun felt nice on his fur. The gentle sound of small waves lapping at the shore mingled with bird and insect song was quite peaceful, and the smell of greenery was everywhere.
Without meaning to, Tyco slipped into a light doze. Still sitting up, no less!

Testing the water with a paw first, Safiya slipped into the water and paddled out to the middle of her pond. The water felt good and soothing against her fur as she slid through the water. Fish swam by her, but she ignored them, not being hungry or particularly inclined to hunt. Once again she was feeling mellow, her old happiness sweeping in to buoy her. Smiling, she rolled in the water just because she could before heading back to the bank.
Shaking water droplets everywhere, Safiya looked up towards Tyco to see him dozing on his feet. He must have had a long journey. Safiya padded up to where he was and lay next to him, letting him doze, the stars wouldn't be up for a little while and he seemed tired.
Just as the sun was starting to set, Safiya sat up and touched her nose to Tyco's cheek wanting to wake him gently. "The sun is setting, the stars will be up soon." She said.

Tyco started awake, blinking sleepily and trying to remember where the heck he was. Slowly his brain found the information it was looking for, and he felt himself blushing. He'd just fallen alseep right there, it was so embarassing.
"Sorry about that," Tyco apoligized, looking at Safiya then glancing at the ground. "I didn't mean to just conk out like that."

Safiya turned and smiled up at the male. "Oh, don't worry about it, Tyco. I figured you were tired from your journey, and I had a nice swim. Besides, now you'll be able to stay up and watch the stars with me." She pointed out, her optimism shining through.
Turning back to the sky, Safiya let out a pleased sound and pointed with a swirly paw. "Look, the first one is coming out already." She sighed, keeping her huge grin and leaned into Tyco slightly without any consious decision to do so.

Tyco wasn't what you'd call a morning person. Whatever that meant. He put it down to something like "does not wake up easily, nor completely all at once". Maybe that was a bad interpretation. Morning person should have to do with morning, right? Maybe he was just not a wake-up person? That needed work.
Still, half-asleep or not, the moment Safiya leaned into him Tyco felt a shiver go up his spine. It wasn't unpleasant, but damn it sure woke him up in a hurry!
"They're beautiful," Tyco murmered, looking up at the sky and trying to mask his brief moment of dicomfort. What was causing that? It wasn't Safiya....or was it? It wasn't like a bad discomfort or anything, just the annoying kind that burrowed into your brain and wouldn't let you be until you figured out what it meant.
He puzzled over it, watching the sky, waiting for that epiphany. It felt so close....
"Hey, Safiya," Tyco said slowly, feeling like he was just in reach of understanding and that this conversation would somehow help.

"They are." Safiya agreed, watching as one star after another appeared in the darkening sky. The black and white fox felt quite content sitting there in the dark with Tyco. She was enjoying herself quite a bit, more than she had in a long time.
Tyco spoke again, pulling her attention away from the sky and to the male. The move made her pull away from him, slightly, but he now had her full attention. "Yeah, Tyco?" She asked softly, wondering what was on his mind. He seemed to be mulling something over, something important.

"What is this, exactly," he asked, looking from the sky to Safiya. "I mean, what are we," he tried to clarify, gesturing a paw as though indicating the two of them as a unit.
"What do you see me as?" Tyco waited expectantly for Safiya's answer, feeling his heart hammer somewhere up in his throat. When the heck had the thing gotten up there?

Safiya felt a type of panic settle over her; she didn't know what to say. Her brain whirred with what she should say and what could happen if she said it. What if...what if...what if....
Finally, her commonsense cut through her panic and scolded her for being silly. Tell the truth. The worst he could do would be sneer and leave and, honestly, he didn't seem the type. Taking a fortifying breath, Safiya looked up at Tyco and sent him a shy smile.
"Well," she said slowly, "I like you, Tyco, a lot. We have a lot in common and you seem to understand me very well. I have a lot of fun with you." Her smile widened "I...this doesn't have to be any more than you want it to be, but I wouldn't mind if it were." She hoped that expressed what she wanted without making Tyco feel pressured; the last thing she wanted was to push her friend away.

Tyco answered Safiya's smile with a soft one of his own, feeling a blush spreading across his face.
"I feel much the same way," he said, slowly moving so that he was lightly leaning against Safiya.
"It's a strange sensation. I always knew that eventually I could move on with life, but it seemed like my heart would always remain shackled to the past. I didn't believe I would ever trust myself to love again. When I'm with you though-," he said, the blush increasing a touch, "-it's as though the chains never even existed."
Tyco finally reached his limit and had to lower his head as the blush reached a new level of intensity. He usually wasn't one to say such things, and a small corner of his mind wondered if he might have worded something wrong so as to scare Safiya off. His heart squeezed at the thought.

The black and white vixen blushed and blinked slowly at Tyco. No one had ever said anything like that before; not to her. Her heart flip-flopped in her chest and she leaned towards Tyco and licked his cheek. "That is a wonderful way to describe it. Whenever I'm with you, all the old hurt melts away; it just doesn't matter anymore because you're here."
Safiya pressed against the male and pressed her nose against Tyco's warm cheek. "Don't be embarrassed, Tyco." She said, weaving her tail around his and smiling at him happily.

Tyco shook his head. "It just sounds so....so cheesy," he said, a note of sheepishness creeping into his voice. He let out a short bark of a laugh, some of his blush vanishing and a smile flitting across his face. "I mean I never imagined myself saying something like that. It's like the lines out of a play or something. And I've always considered myself the opposite of poetic or theatrical!"
He leaned back against Safiya, reveling in her warm weight at his side.

Safiya thought over what they'd both said and chuckled lightly. "Sometimes the only way to describe some feelings is to sound cheesy. I think if you don't, you'll sound like your complaining. Besides, I really do think it was a lovely way to put it." she replied, smiling up at Tyco gently. She leaned her head against Tyco's shoulder and looked up at the stars.

Tyco mirrored Safiya's chuckle. "Aye. Who knows, maybe someday we'll find out we inspired a song or play of our own. These things must have a basis in real life somewhere to have sprung up at all, after all."
He glanced sideways at Safiya then looked back up at the sky, and couldn't help himself from grinning like a fool. In this moment, his life felt perfect again.
((One more post from each of us and we're dooooone <3 Should we have them just fall asleep where they're sitting?))

"Oh, my. I hope that if we've inspired a play, that we've inspired it after I, at least, am no longer around. I think I'd be embarrassed to have other foxes see how silly I am." she said with an outright laugh of happiness. She smiled up at Tyco and followed his gaze up to the sky in time to see a shooting star. "Oh wow. How pretty." She murmured, leaning a bit more heavily against Tyco. She felt warm and safe, and she could feel herself starting to drift off a little.

Tyco could feel Safiya's weight at his side increase and adjusted according. "Well-," he said, voice quiet so as not to jar Safiya out of her contented state, "-what's life without a little silliness?" He chuckled quietly, his body vibrating with the sound.
"For what it's worth-," he said, laying his head on top of Safiya's, leaning against her in turn and feeling the comfortable weight of sleep begin to descend up on him as well, "-I think your silliness is absolutely adorable."
