"It's alright," Nika told Arrin, shrugging off the apology, "Everyone does, the first time. I'm used to it." She turned back to Rois and smiled some. "Flying, huh? That must be nice. When you grow up, you should get Cari to take you running on the mountain. Going fast enough down a slope, it certainly feels like flying."
Before she could say more, she heard Kamu's foul vocabulary across the wind. Pulling her ears back in annoyance, she called back: "Clean up your mouth and get over here, idiot!" She was too busy to dela with more of his griping.
Lucy's little ears shot straight up as she heard a new voice. She knew that voice! She'd heard it a lot before she woke up in this odd, white and fluffy place with the foul and angry person...It must be Mummy!
"Alice!" she whispered urgently to her sister. "I believe I have figured it out! This...foul person is Father, and that voice belongs to Mummy, I know it! Come on!" Maybe Mummy would be more pleasant than Father. All he did was yell and curse and act all grumpy.
Taking advantage of Father's short attention span, Lucy quickly squirmed out of his grip and took out across the snow. She stumbled in some places, not used to walking, yet alone running, but she was determined to reach Mummy. And within a few minutes, she had!
"Mummy!" she beamed as she crested a hill, panting and shaky. There were lots of others here, but only one other bright pink one. Lucy would have known that was her mother even if she was all lime green. Quickly shaking out her tired legs, she crossed the remaning distance and curled up between Nika's legs.
"Hello Mummy," she sighed happily, nuzzling into her.
Nika blinked in surprise at a new kit's voice, until she realized the pink blur coming at her was one of her own children. So that was what Kamu had bene yelling about; the children had been born. Smiling to herself, Nika sat back down and nuzzled her daughter--Lucy, she already knew. "Hello, sweetheart. Meet Cari, Rois and Arrin."
"Probably a good choice," Denali chuckled. "They're odd. They have this one member, Mimoko, who's just really...submissive. Like she'd do anything Amaroq told her to without question." She wrinkled her nose at the idea. She didn't like disobedience, but still...he could probably tell her to jump off a cliff and she might.
"Anyway, want me to show you around?"
"Antlers?" Amaroq snorted. Gingerale had good eyes...but antlers? He somehow doubted that. But he'd seen stranger things. "Normals, mm? Unfortunate, but Nika never has discriminated enough. So long as they don't come to us. More disadvantages for the other teams."
The idea of the feast made Roq internally sigh. He had to attend as a Lead Dog...which meant he had to socialize. He didn't like dealing with other tribe members. Maybe there'd be somebody interesting, but he doubted it. He rolled his eyes; he'd just get Gingerale to talk to him.

"I didn't say you looked like a grumpy momma, I just said you acted like one sometimes," Cari protested. After all the tribe essentially was like a group of children, and as their Elder that made Nika their momma. It was a fitting anaology, in her mind.
The vibrant-hued vixen turned to nudge at Arrin, laughter in her eyes. She could tell from his expression and tense stance he needed some encouragement. "Don't beat yourself up, Arrin! Nika ain't gonna eat you just cause you asked some questions." She giggled; the mental image was amusing, even if it might be terrifying to others.
At that moment there was some bellowing in the distance; Nika's....mate? Boyfriend? Cari was never quite sure. A few moment a bright pink and white kit hurled herself at Nika. "Oh, how cute!" Cari beamed at her Elder and the kit. "I want babies someday, they're so precious!"
"I can take him, if you're busy Boss." Ayame came trotting out of the cabin, deer fulled dismembered and reading for easy eating. She paused in the snow to wipe her muzzle clean of blood and looked back up at the group. The deer-fox, Prancer, she believed he said his name was, looked a bit skittish. It would be good for him to get to know others and make friends in the tribe if he was gonna stay. It might just help him relax.

Prancer nodded, saying, "Sure, that sounds good." At least this way, if he had to meet more dog-foxes he wouldn't be alone. A new fox approached, offering to show him around in place of Denali. He wasn't too sure if he was comfortable with that, but didn't say anything. Prancer just glanced at Denali, wondering what she would say to that.
Gingerale nodded, understanding that her tale of the strange fox was a little odd. She also agreed with this sentiments regarding the normal foxes. "I doubt they would try to join us, and even if they do, Nika will warn them against it." Ginger shrugged. These new arrivals only helped the Band in the end.

Leigh didn't know who this Amaroq person was, but Nika seemed a bit too busy to deal with catching up right now, so Leigh had just bowed her head and gotten out of the way, moving to settle against a rock a few feet away, to watch and listen and observe.
There were kits running around here? That meant there had to be some shelter...hm. Just how big was this 'slave operation' of Nika's? Leigh didn't voice any of her questions, not just yet, but she still did quietly marvel at Nika's ability to handle fourteen things at once. She'd always been good at that.
But still. Leigh couldn't help but be surprised when two little kits pranced through the snow, calling Nika 'Mummy'. Nika was a mother? And a new mother, at that. Did that mean she had a mate? For some reason, Leigh was having difficulty picturing that: Nika all snuggled up and content with a male (or maybe a female?), playing the cheerful mother to her children...
How many kids did she have, anyway?
Eventually, Leigh decided that she didn't have much else to learn there until she could ask some direct questions--and Deities knew when that would be--Leigh stood and shook the snow off her tail, then started away from the gaggle, in the direction she heard a male and female voice coming from.
She slowed her pace slightly, not trying to overhear on purpose, but certainly not doing anything to warn the two against her presence. They were talking about some big feast or something...well, this was (probably) a Tribe, so that made sense. Or the best-fed slave encampment ever.
"S'cuse me," Leigh said, speaking up when there was a silence between the two. The female was a warm mix of dark and light brown, while the male was a shocking black and red with a type of tail Leigh hadn't ever seen on a Fox or Dog before--only on a wolf.
"Either of you happen to know where Amaroq is?" Leigh questioned, resisting the urge to go poke curiously at the equipment they were handling. Inspecting, maybe...it'd been a long time since Leigh had been hitched to sled, and she found that she rather missed the feel.
Realizing--hoping--that these two probably wouldn't attack her without Nika's permission, Leigh rolled her eyes at herself and spoke up again.
"I'm Leigh, by the way. Nika sent me to find him, but she didn't tell me what fox went with the name." Any other information might get Nika into trouble--what if these foxes went and tattled to Amaroq for Nika saying he needed someone to 'balance him out'? Leigh could remember how tenuous the relationships on a team were sometimes, let alone a whole tribe.
That logic making sense to her, Leigh kept her mouth shut and raised an eyebrow curiously at the sleddog and sled...well, whatever he was.

Finishing her inspection of the harness that she had been given, filing away a couple more of the tiny cracks to mention to Amaroq. Not wanting to interrupt, the black and purple vixen sat down to listened to Amaroq talking to the female dog-fox, Gingerale.
A fox with antlers? of all things had appeared and there was also a feast on the way. Now that sounded like fun and Caprice's tail wagged excitedly. Something caught her attention from the corner of her eye, and she recognized the black and yellow fox that had been so surprised to see Nika.
Caprice wasn't being talked to, but she was quite the friendly fox, not to mention a tad impulsive, and jumped right into the conversation. "Hello, Leigh. I'm Caprice, that's Gingerale," she motioned to the brown vixen, then to the half-wolf, "and he's Amaroq."

Rois giggled and looked up at Cari. “Oh you’ll take me running won’t you Cari. I think that I’d like that a lot. ” She got up and trotted between Cari and Arrin as a kit came past her. See watched as the kit went up to Nikia and called her momy. It was so cute! At least Rois thought so. And having other kits in the tribe seemed like fun. “Hey Nika now you really can be a grumpy momma. You just have to get mad if something happens.” She would have said more but Arrin and put a paw on her muzzle. She glared up at him before he shook his head and let her go. Well fine then. I won’t say anymore about it. Seeesh! Adults.
Arrin cringed at Cari’s words. Nika looked like she could take him with her eyes closed to the image Cari brought up scared him. He blinked as he saw a ball of fur head to the elder. He blinked and nodded as Nika introduced her kit to them. He then put a paw over Rois’s mouth to quite her from saying anything.. brisk in front of the younger kit. He was glad that she stopped chatting when he let her go. He looked at the kit. “nice to meet you.” When Cari said she wanted kits he had to smile. She would make a great mother.
