Ami bent her head and looked at her crossword, writing down a couple of the easier answers. Ugh, math was not her strongest point. Although, now, it seemed to be harder. Ami looked up and let her eyes set on Lucas. Moaning inwardly, she stood up and sat beside Jai. "Hey Jai? I got a question" she whispered. Jai looked up from his math to see Ami sitting beside him. Smiling he said. "Sure Aim's, what's up?" He didn't even realize that he gave her a nickname. Ami grinned at the nickname and began whispering. "Do you think you could teach me to write a song sometime? I want to try letting out my feelings in a new way. Usualy for me its drawing" Jai nodded. "Sure, I still need to teach you to sing better. But for now, stick to your drawing, and we'll see about when I can teach you how to write a song" Nodding, Ami stood up and went back to her seat. Hoping that Lucas didn't think anything of her talking and smiling with Jai. Sitting down, she pulled out her sketchpad and began to draw out her feelings.

Tyler turned from the class to the white board and began to figure out the problem on the board. He swiftly and seemingly very quickly began to write down, integers, variables and whatnot. After a few minutes, he stopped and stepped back to check over his work. If one were to look up from their desk, they would see quite a bit of writing. "Oh, and class. For a lot of the work. I do expect you to show your work. For this crossword, no. But for actual assignments. Yes." Mr. Aker turned around and looked at the class. "You can use a calculator if you absolutely need it. But do as much as you can without one." Tyler grinned an amazingly handsome smile and took the paper as Nikki came up and handed it to him. "Great!" he said enthusiastically. "Oh, one more thing. Try not to let my enthusiasm for math get on your nerves. Other than golf and whatnot, math is one of my main passions." Mr. Aker said and placed the paper on his desk.
Glancing at Nikki, he said. "I don't know... From the looks of this crossword. It almost seems as If you'd need a bit of a bigger challenge" Turning to the class once again he said. "Also, if you feel that the work isn't challenging you, or pushing you to do better. Let me know and I can give you something more challenging"

If you can wait till I get home Then I swear to you That we can make this last Alice pulled out her graphing calculator "Herp derp. I broke my pencil in my bag. Ami, can I borrow a pencil?"
Kyle tossed her one from across the room "Yeah"
Alice caught it between her fingers "Uh...thanks Kyle...but you aren't Ami"
Kyle shrugged "I know...I just wanted to see who could get you one first..."
Alice rolled her eyes "Strange..."
Jonathon twirled his pencil with his fingers "So uh...how do we do this?"
It was almost embarassing to himself that he let his grades and everything fall so badly at his old school. All he wanted now was to catch up back to regular speed, and get the grades he needed to graduate. He was done with partying. For now at least.

Tyler looked up as he heard someone ask for a pencil. Even knowing that he wasn't Ami, he still reached for a pencil to give to her. But, Kyle beat him to it. Chuckling he leaned back into his chair. Mr. Aker looked up again as he head someone ask a question. Standing up, the young teacher walked to Jonathon. "You need help?" he asked and, without waiting for a response, he kneels down beside the desk. "Well, if you just want to know what to do, then you look at the problems. Answer them and then if it's under the horizontal column, then you find that number, say, number 3, and you'd put the answer there" Tyler said, pointing with the eraser of his pencil to the spot where the #3 answer would go. "Or.." he continued. "Are you having trouble with the math itself?" he asked, sensing that he was a little embarrassed. "It's alright if you are. I'm here to help"

If you can wait till I get home Then I swear to you That we can make this last Jonathon helplessly looked up at him, and then back at the paper, and then up at him, and then to the floor. And then, he started to cry.
Why? He had no clue, but the tears flowed. "I-I'm sorry" he stuttered, wiping the tears away as best as he could
"Yes, I need help with the math..."
Alice looked up at Jonathon "Aww Johnny!" she softly said so that only Ami could hear.
Kyle glanced at Jonathon, and then quickly looked away. Jonathon was annoying, yes, but he just could not stand to see the dude cry. It was just wrong.
Alex looked at his cousin with mixed emotions. What...happened...?

Tyler watched the young man look at him, to the paper, and then back to him.
Mr. Aker just waited patiently for a response. That was one thing, one of the benefits of playing golf.
Tyler had gotten an immense amount of patience. Mr. Aker nodded, and waited silently as Jonathon cried.
"It's alright man." he said as the student apologized. Tyler placed a comforting hand on Jonathon's shoulder.
"Okay. By the way Jonathon. If you ever want to talk about anything really,
poke your head into Elijah's Counseling office. The man is a terrific listener."
Looking at the crossword. He said. "Alright. Let me see here."
Tyler ran his pointer along some of the questions. Trying to pull out a
particularly hard one. "Ah, here we are." he finally decided on one.
Mr. Aker pointed to. 3x squared + 13x -10 "Do you understand how to
figure out the answer?" he asked, looking at Jonathon.
Tyler didn't want to work on a question he already knew how to do.Music Yeah.... I didn't have the Squared two thing.
And I didn't want to look for it right now biggrin

Tyler nodded and wrote the question on a scrap pice of paperr.
"Alright. It's understandable to be confused with this.
ANd yes, normally, for other stuff, there is an equals sign and more equation.
But not here.
What you do first, is you multiply the 3 from the three-x, by the -10."
Mr. Aker paused and waited for Jonathon to do that on his calculator.
"Which is -30." he said, Tyler had already come up with the answer in his head.
He nodded and wrote down, -30, along the side.
"Now, you try and find what two numbers,
When MULTIPLIED, equal negative thirty. And when ADDED, equal negative 13.
what's written there is wrong." Standing up he said to the class.
"Class! On question 7 across. It's not positive 13. It should be negative."
Kneeling back down he continued walking Jonathon through it.
"So, can you think of which two numbers,
when multiplied equal -30, and when added equal negative 13?"
Tyler paused and looked at Jonathon

If you can wait till I get home Then I swear to you That we can make this last Jonathon stared at the apaper for a minute and then said "Wait...that doesn't make sense...is'nt it that -3 times -10 equals +30? cuz -3 plus -10 equals -13..."

Tyler grinned. He figured that would come up with one of the students.
"-3 and -10 are not the only numbers that you can use.
See, take. -15 and +2 for example.
If you multiply them, they equal -30. And if you add the two, they equal -13.
Because, adding a positive 2, to a negative 15 is like saying 15 minus 2.
Which is 13. If anything doesn't make sense,
or you need me to explain it again, then just let me know.
But now that we have the two numbers. We write it out again, but instead of the -13, we put the two numbers in like..." Mr. Aker paused the talking and began to write it out.
3x squared - 15 + 2 -10
"...So" he said as he finished writing that part out.
"Making sense so far?" The young teacher asked

Tyler nodded and stood up. "So you know how to factor it then?" he asked,
looking around to see if anyone else was having troubles.
Mr. Aker swiftly walked to his class list. Seeing that one student wasn't here yet.

Shrugging, he walked back to Jonathon for a response to his question.

Alex cough/said "Factor tree..."
Jonathon pointed at him "Yeah that! Factor tree!"
Alice quietly said to Ami "Don't you think it's hillarious that all the loud/obnoxious guys are sitting in the back row?"

Ami looked up from her drawing at Alice.
"Yeah... That is odd" she agreed, looking up she caught sightr of the back of Lucas' head.
It was just the back, but.... his hair looks so silky
Ami thought to herself, finally bringing her
gaze away and back to Alice. Jai looked around at Jonathon.
So THAT must be Jonathon.
Jai stood up and walked to Jonathon and Mr. Aker.
"Hey, Mr. Aker... I can help him" He offered,
looking down at the question written out he said to Jonathon.
"Hey, Jonathon... Right? No, these problems, you don't
use a factor tree for, that's with a different set of problems."
Jai sat down beside him.
"With the factor tree. You're just tryting to find the
factors of a number.
Here, you're not" Jai explained.
