Alexis almost jumped at the sound of Derek's voice. Almost. She hadn't even heard him come in since she had been so focused on Twilight. She looked at at Derek and smiled slightly. Penny took a few steps toward Derek and sniffed him. Alexis smiled at the mare and then pushed Twilight harder. "Come on Twilight, up you go," she said, pushing the foal up onto her feet. The buckskin mare stood up as Alexis pushed her and wobble don her legs. Penny was immediately at her side, supporting her foal. The mare guided her foal to her milk and supported Twilight as she nursed. Alexis stood up and watched the mother and daughter for a few seconds before turning toward Derek. She brushed the straw off of her pants and stepped out of the stall. She closed the door behind her and let out a sigh. Hopefully Twilight would still be standing when they got back. The brunette then headed quickly into the tack room and got tack for Derek, hopefully he knew how to ride western. Alexis rode both English and western but only used her western tack for trail rides, unless she was going to do jumping on the trails. Today, she had planned a simple ride for them, just so she could see how well Derek could ride. Her horses meant a lot to her and she never let anyone jump them or ride them hard their first time on, especially if she didn't know how they rode. The teen had no clue about how Derek rode horses and wanted to find out before letting him ride her more advanced horses or on her more advanced trails. She returned to Derek quickly and handed him the tack. "You're going to be riding Frost, she's the dappled gray Dutch Warmblood mare over there," she said, pointing toward the stall labeled Winter's Breath. Alexis had her reasons for picking Frost, the mare was steady and knew the trails by heart. Since Derek didn't know his way around the woods, Alexis had wanted to put him on a more experienced horse. The mare was also very easygoing and could put up with any rider. Even though Frost was old, almost twenty, she still had a lot of life in her. She had used to be a dressage horse in younger days and was then bought by Alexis' father when her career ended. She was now only used for gentle trail rides since her breeding days were over too. Though, when she wanted to, she could have the spirit and energy of a six year old.
The brunette then turned away from Derek and headed toward the stall closest to the stable door. A blue roan stallion stood calmly in the corner, his ears moving with every sound. As Alexis opened the stall door, the stallion's head shot up and he snorted, stomping his hoof. Alexis stayed put for a few moments before the stallion lowered his head and pricked his ears. Te teen smiled and walked over to her beloved stallion. "Hi Moon, we are going to go on a trail ride with Frost, okay? And someone's coming with us, so please be on your best behavior and try not to kill him," she told the stallion as she stroked his muscular neck. Moon flicked his ears back and forth before putting his head over his stall door. His eyes glanced down the aisle and locked on Derek. The stallion raised his head and snorted, his ears back. Alexis walked calmly up to him and stroked him, whispering softly. Once the stallion had calmed, the brunette slipped out of the stall and grabbed Moon's tack before grabbing her brushes. She quickly brushed Moon's coat until it was clean and made sure his hooves were clean. She then quickly put his tack on and adjusted his bridle. Alexis never used a bit with Moon, since he was impossible to ride without one. When Alexis tried a hackamore on him, he responded perfectly fine. So Alexis now only used a hackamore with him. Moon shook his head once the bridle was on before calmly following Alexis out of the stall. The stallion was young but he was bonded close to Alexis. The teen knew that those months of hard work, broken bones, and that week in the hospital had all been worth it since Moon had turned into an excellent horse, for her at least. He wasn't a big fan of anyone else, not even Alexis' family. Though, he had gotten better. Alexis patted his neck and glanced out at the woods, planning their route in her mind. They'd leave as soon as Derek was ready.

Silence answered her and than she said, "Oh, crap, I forgot. She's working today," She smiled at him apologetically. "Sorry. I'm just going to leave her a note telling her where I'm going and that I'll be late." She headed into the office to grab a piece of paper and a pen.

The sandy brown haired boy looked the mare anf foal over once more after Alexis had left the stall. Both animals were impressive, but his trained eye could see the foal was weak. Dere's riveting blue eyes shifted from the mare and foal to Alexis, taking the larger saddle with ease. He'd learned to ride Western, but had stopped when he got Hercules, then Jas. He rode Western now and then, helping in lessons. Yes, Derek Drake helped in riding lessons. The boy was quite talented in both disciplines. Derek nodded to Alexis, then turned around and headed for the gray mare's stall. He noticed the stallion's reaction to him, but didn't care. It was natural for stallions to act that way. Hercules, his old horse, used to only tolerate Derek. That's why he liked mares; they were more easygoing and not so fierce. Though Jas would beg to differ. She'd let only some ride her, but wouldn't be vicious at first sight. The mare would only get vicious if she believed she was protecting Derek. Derek ran an expert hand over the gray mare Frost, noting how old she was by checking her teeth, and then smiling as he felt her muscles. She had plenty of vigor left in her for a horse of her age. Derek quickly ran a brush over the mare's coat, then combed out her mane and tail until she was flawless. He settled the saddle and saddle pad onto Frost, cinching her up tight but not too tight. He quickly ran his gaze over the tack, checking it. He'd tighten the cinch once she released her air. He then reached for the bridle, gently popping the bit into the mare's mouth and easing the crownpiece and browband over the horse's poll. Derek tightened the chin strap and throat latch until everything was fit. He had tacked the mare up flawlessly. Groomingwise as well. He led the mare out of the stall just as he swa Alexis finish. He turned and tightened the cinch the rest of the way, leading the horse outside and readied to mount. He checked his tack once more as a good rider would, and then adjusted his boots. He already wore them from his earlier visit to the stable, and his other shoes were in his truck. He patted Frost with a gentle hand and grabbed the reins and some mane, mounting with much ease. The stirrups were a bit short. He leaned down, and without dismounting, he lengthened them. He finished and pushed his feet back into the stirrups, settling into a flawless seat and position. Though he rode English, he still had a perfect seat for either discipline. Derek looked over at Alexis, not sure whether to expect her to be shocked or indifferent. He patted Frost and murmured a soft word to her, his reins relaxed yet not loose. There was no pressure on the bit, but Derek didn't let the reins hang far down as he would with Jas when they were cooling out. Derek's fingers gripped the reins in his left hand, his right hand on his thigh, where it was supposed to be when he rode Western. Derek looked at Alexis for direction, not saying anything. ╔══════════════════╗ XCheck yes Juliet

"You always have to add that 'if'!" she joked and slid into the passenger seat of his car. "The new Harry Potter movie. I've been dying to see that! I really want to know how the series ends." she said. She saw Nate glance at his phone. "What did Derek say?" she asked him curiously. She didn't want to be rude and look at his messages.
They pulled out of her driveway and drove down the long familiar roads towards Nate's house. "How do you think November is doing?" she asked him. She always wondered why he named his dog November, but she never asked him. She didn't want him to take it the wrong way or anything like that. But that still didn't stop her from wondering. {You showed me something that I couldn't see

"Nothing, he hasn't responded to the text yet." Nathaniel explained and hopped over his door into the driver seat. He started his convertible and started down the all to familiar road to his house.
Nathaniel gave her a quick glance. "I don't know. I am a little worried just because she loves to run around and everything. I'm going to have to do something to stop her from doing that. It'll break her heart to not be able to run around like she used to. But one thing I will NOT do, and that is cage her up. That's... almost inhumane, she's earned her freedom. November never runs to far, she always comes back and she never get's in trouble." He kind of chuckled. "when I tell her 'November, you have got to take it easy until you puppies are born' and then she'll look at me with her big puppy-dog face. And then I'll say 'Sorry girl, this is what you get for having a fling with your boyfriend' and then I'll laugh and she'll howl along with me" Nate stopped. He had never shown his dog-loving, sweet side to anyone other than his family, plus his dog but she's family.
He took a breath and hoped she wouldn't find it weird. "But I hope she's okay" Nathaniel finished and focused his eyes on the road ahead of them. NATHANIEL's

"You shouldn't put her in a cage. It is inhumane," she agreed. "Even if you did, I would probably let her out! I would be like 'OK, November, since Nate is being mean to you I'm going to let you out and it'll be our secret, ok?' And then she'll wag her tail and say to me 'Madelyn you are the best! I am so happy to be out of that horrid cage. You are so pretty and nice! Nate is lucky to have a friend like you' " she joked, smiling and laughing. "Are you going to be able to find out who the father is, or will it remain a mystery forever?" she asked. "And are you going to take her to the vet to find out when she's due?" {You showed me something that I couldn't see

And to add to that..." he bent down to November "She's got a massive belly" Nate stood up and laughed. "No way! I wouldn't let you" he said. "But hey, you can have one of her puppies, if she has more than one that is" Nate said.
November wagged her tail harder, excited about all the extra attention. She switched her gaze for Madelyn to Nate and back again. She barked excitedly. November licked Madelyn's hand and then started prancing around Nate. "No November, not now." he said. Nathaniel knew that November wanted to go to his favorite spot, but that was a spot that Madelyn didn't know about. And right now he didn't want to tell anyone about it. He had more than one so it wouldn't be as if he had no spot that no one knew about. But still. November stopped prancing around and looked at Nate, her eyes suddenly bigger. She whimpered a bit. Nate shook his head "Sorry" was all he said.
November's tail stopped wagging and she started whimpering. "Novi. That wont change anything" he told her.

Alexis watched Derek closely and how Frost reacted to the boy. The mare seemed to be fine with him, which was good. Her brown eyes watched him closely as he got her ready and got on. He seemed to know his way with horse. The teen quickly slipped on her boots, which were right outside Moon's stall, and then glanced back at Derek. The brunette nodded her approval to the boy before checking Moon's tack and mounting him, seating just as well as Derek. Moon flicked his ears and glanced around at Frost, sniffing the air. Alexis stroked the blue roan's neck gently, letting him glance around at the outside world. The stallion's ears flicked back and forth and he snorted, smelling the air. Alexis had gotten used to Moon acting this way. It was obvious that he was the lead stallion of the horses and always looked for danger when he went outside. Once he was calmed down, Alexis patted his neck and gathered his reins. She turned in her seat so she could see Frost and Derek. "Alright, this is going to be a gentle ride, just walk and jog. Frost knows these trails by heart but just keep her behind Moon so she doesn't get kicked by him," the brunette told Derek before nudging Moon forward. The stallion sprung forward, right into a jog, but Alexis quickly brought him back to a steady walk, stroking his neck gently. Moon's ears were fully forward as they walked into the wood. Alexis took the right path since it was the quickest trail to where they were going. She could feel Moon wanting to go but spoke calmly to him, not wanting him to get too antsy. The stallion tossed his head and neighed happily. Alexis smiled and glanced back at Derek, making sure Frost wasn't having trouble keeping up.

Derek nodded at Alexis, but was a little crestfallen at her saying that it would be walk and jog only. His face showed no sign of it, though. He'd prove to her that he wasn't just some popular football jock; he had an even bigger passion for horses than football. Derek let Frost have her head, but kept her far enough back so Moon could have his space. Derek had first hand experience with stallions; Hercules, his first horse, was a stallion and Derek had plenty of spills with the big Thoroughbred ex racer. Derek kept his hands unmoving, using only his legs to guide the mare. The mare responded nicely to his commands, but not nearly as nimble as Jas would be. Derek's thoughts strayed. What would happen at the show in a week? How would he and Jas do? Before Alexis would notice his thoughtful face, he re-focused his attention on Frost. The mare was agile for her age, that's for sure. Derek decided to say that he could handle going faster, after noting the way Moon pranced. "You don't have to make any exceptions for me. I can handle a horse just fine," Derek replied, his tone even. It wasn't provoking or cold, just calm and collected. Derek's riding seat was perfect. His shoulders were back, his back straight but relaxed, his hands unmoving and his heels down. His knees were squeezing gently against the mare's sides, a trick his trainer Pam had taught him. If you want an older horse to move at a steady fast pace to keep up with a younger one, squeeze the horse's sides. Derek hadn't ridden an old horse in a long time, but Frost was easy to handle. Derek started to wonder why Alexis put him on an old mare. Probably because it didn't even dawn on her that I might be someone OUT of school popularity, doing what's considered a "girl's sport", Derek thought coldly. His face showed nothing of his thoughts, though. He remembered when he tried to convince other guys that horseback riding WAS a sport. Derek had gone so far as to take one of the guys that teased him the most out to the stable, put him on Hercules, his horse at the time, and send him out on the hunter course. Derek had laughed his butt off when Hercules hadn't so much as broken into a canter to jump when the kid fell off. Derek shoved him onto the fence and got onto Hercules, flying through the course with ease and flawlessness. After then no one bothered him about his riding. And Derek was going to prove to Alexis that whatever she thought of him and riding, it would easily be much the opposite. Derek was an amazing rider, contrary to popular belief. Derek's blue eyes focused between Frost's ears, reading her body language. Derek squeezed her into a faster walk to keep up with Alexis and her stallion. ╔══════════════════╗ XCheck yes Juliet

Alexis turned her head back to the trail and let the reins relax in her hand. Moon responded immediately and let his head relax. He snorted calmly and shook his head. Alexis patted the stallion and glanced toward Derek as he spoke. She couldn't help but roll her eyes as he spoke. Did he really think she was keeping the pace slow because of him? Was he really that self-centered? She was only keeping the pace slow because the trail got narrower as they went and there were some low branches. It had nothing to do with him. "Don't worry, your highness, I'm not making any exceptions for you. I know these trails and I know what pace they can be rode at," she said firmly and turned her attention back to the trail, which was now getting narrower and the branches were hanging low so Alexis had to duck so they wouldn't hit her head. Moon, knowing the trail, kept his head low and allowed Alexis to lean on his neck. Alexis glanced at the branches and decided that it was about time to come out and trim the trees so they didn't entirely take over the trail. The brunette raised her head slightly, as she saw light reaching into the trail. Moon pricked his ears and pulled at the bit, knowing where they were going. The stallion began to prance once again but Alexis was able to keep him under control. She stroked his neck softly as they neared the opening leading out of the woods.

The sandy brown haired boy rolled his eyes behind Alexis's back. Gezz, he was only trying to be nice! It seemed that everyone had prejudged him to be the popular, self centered football jock, king of the school and king of the world. Guess what? That was NOT him. That was his family, not him. "Don't dare underestimate me," Derek muttered under his breath, not loud enough for Alexis to hear. Plus, the fallen leaves crunching and the rustle of branches muffled it. Derek kept his focus on Frost, the mare ambling along. He pushed her into a faster walk, extending her walk into almost a dressage like manner. Not quite dressage, but almost. Derek could tell that the mare, in her earlier days, was a dressage horse. Her movements were fluid and strong, and she was very flexible. Derek patted the mare's neck, then leaned down onto it, avoiding the horn, as branches near scraped his upper back. Derek mulled over his mount. She must have been a brilliant horse when she was younger. Jas was flawless in nearly every class, though she sometimes didn't have the wear with all for cross country. But Derek loved cross country, and Jas was getting to the point of near perfection. Derek rubbed Frost's neck absently, his eyes between her ears, focused on the trail and Moon's flowing tail. Derek was losing his patience with Alexis; something he rarely did. But he was trying to be nice, but Alexis was still cold and hard as ever. Frost seemed to sense his agitation and snorted. Derek patted her and calmed her, shoving his emotions down so he once again was as stone. ╔══════════════════╗ XCheck yes Juliet
