Silence settled on Emery as she kept an embrace on him, blinking her bright eyes still glossed over with a thin layer of liquid. Confusion had found its way into her like a wedge between her and the feeling of stupid happiness flamed by no real source. He was sick? Like when Emery feels very hot and icky stuff comes from her nose? The laugh that plagued her cured into a frown, her eyes uncharacteristically dimmed into a more serious look as she grasped his shoulders and turned him around. Staring at his face that was oddly shaded, it definitely looked sick to her. Well, she didn't know what sick really looked like, or why she was going to touch his forehead for, but she had an idea of what her siblings do when she gets sick. She wasn't sure what she was even feeling for. People just touched her head and said if she was sick or not. So, she waited for something to happen to inform her of his sickness, to which she would inform him. Silence proceeded and Emery was more confused. No icky stuff from his nose, nothing said he was sick... But his face was funny, maybe it was always funny?

Further silence, and Emery's sight dropped to the ground. Was he going to leave her alone? Right after he scared away the monsters? If he left her alone, they could come back for her. They'd see her without her brave man and stuff her in their cheeks! A few tears, having over flowed and succumbed to gravity, slicked down her cheek as her lower lip quivered. She didn't want that!! Pulling him close, she held him to her body and dragged him down with her weight to the ground. On her knees, she hid her face in the crook of his neck between the neck and shoulder.

While others might see and call this an act of drama, to little Emery the fear was very real, the threat of death was very real, and so - her frightened, pleading, whimper was very real. ”Don't leave me alone, please... I don't want to get taken.. I don't – don't go. ”

Nothing happened after he spoke for a time, leaving Junior to be utterly confused as he waited for the woman to.. to do something – hopefully, run away to her own home and let Junior curl up into the fetal position in the field while reminiscing about the scary man who stole him off in that very place. Hey, he may even head to where his old home used to be – Kade's RV – and sit there for a few hours in memory of the little friend he failed to protect there too. How in the heck could this girl really think he was 'brave'? He was everything but! He always had been.. Unless she was mistaking him for some other redheaded twelve-year-old boy? He doubted it, but.. at the same time, it made much more sense than what she was saying. He was about to suggest that to help break the silence when gravity yanked him down in the form of a pair of thin arms linked around his neck. He let out a stuttering yelp and felt their chests press against eachother – his scrawny, bony one to a soft, plump one~ It was like bouncing against a cloud – a cloud that gave him a heart attack, constricted his breathing, and had him wondering why he didn't have a cell phone to dial 911 with!

He would have fallen back had she not been clinging to him so tightly, but, instead, he went to his knees as well, sliding down for his face to meet her.. chest. This day just wasn't going well for the boy, was it? “..Uh..” He mumbled out, but found it was much easier to focus on breathing than to try to talk right then. ..Don't go..? Taken? His mouth pursed and, for a breath second there, he forgot about his own predicament – long enough for him to shakily take a hold of her arms with a hard swallow. He wasn't going to hug her back – that would probably just suffocate him even more! – but.. he could hold her, right? He understood that feeling and he wouldn't be able to shove her away when she was like that. He had to be a 'man', right..? “I-I..” He paused and took a breath, “..I won't g-go.

Where Junior had ended up didn't phase Emery, might as well be her own face in his chest. Her siblings hadn't taken the time to explain to Emery, or if they did she didn't understand it and forgot it as useless information, and she only became more happy at the news of his staying. Hugging him tightly to her, the happiness flooded back into her like a broken dam and she laughed in joy. Even sick, he wouldn't leave her, he'd defend her from the monsters! What a great new friend she made~ Wiping her tears on the top of his head, Emery dropped onto her bottom so that she could better see her savior's face. Gratitude for such bravery welled in her chest like a warm, gooey pool of syrup. No one ever saved Emery from the monsters! Even when she was in her room, her siblings wouldn't visit her until she was done kicking and screaming at the imaginary squirrels racing about her room. With him around, they'd never come back, would they? She smiled and blinked some loose tears from her eye lashes. Relief let her swallow the lump that had developed in her throat and free a giggle from her. That was a scary moment before.

”I like you.” She stated, as blatantly and as clear as one might say hello to another person. But, not any person! Nope. This person was her hero and her new best friend. ”You're my new friend.” Standing up, she took his hand and pulled him upwards with her. ”Lets play now!”

Oh, she.. she was laughing? Junior's face flushed yet again in embarrassment for managing such a thing. He didn't know he could make someone smile – well.. someone outside of Angelina. It was easy to make her happy.. Which Junior liked a lot. He knew he couldn't do very much, so someone who was easy to cheer up was perfect for him. ..Angelina was just a kid, though, while this girl was.. older. Much older. Had he seen her at school? Not that he recalled.. Which made her an adult! An adult who wanted to play with him like Celeste! Who he hadn't seen for a long time, so he guessed she just didn't like him anymore, but.. but this girl was different! He would make sure she didn't get bored of him! If she wanted to play, then, he would play! He was only more determined as she said he was her friend. No one had ever said that right when meeting him..! It was like a dream come true – enough of one to make tears well up in his eyes and his once-there erection to fade away in forgotten – no, wait, that was a daydream. It was still there. His face drained of color once again as he remembered that with a small movement back, the appendage rubbing against the inside of his pants uncomfortably. Um.

I-I.. Um.. w-water. W-we should go s-swim a-and p-play.. C-can.. um..” He bounced up with a varying speed, eager to hide his predicament, but.. but it kinda made it worse to move a-and.. Oh, Goddess. Yes, he was on praying again – who could blame him? “D-do.. a-are you.. u-um.. c-can you s-swim?” He asked as he finally managed upright, hardly realizing that his oversized jacket covered up any signs of his situation. It didn't feel like it was hidden, so, once again, who could blame him?!

Smiling, soft, dumb, and happy, Emery kept a hand grasped firmly to the thick jacket the boy adorned, her hold on the back to where she felt it'd least bother him. She had heard him quite clearly state his continued presence with her, but who could blame Emery for being a little uncertain? She didn't want him to go away, and though she didn't acknowledge it herself, the feeling of relief came from the touch. A constant reminder that he was still around and hadn't forgotten, or ditched, or misplaced her. For a moment she recalled that her brother had misplaced her at the graveyard, but that was a flickering thought quickly dispelled by the tiniest breath of a glance at the boy. She giggled. He had a funny face. But, funny was good, wasn't it? It had to be, when a good person was funny.
”Swim?” She echoed, blinking her dim eyes as she absentmindedly repeated the words. Looking about, her brain took a moment to process what he had said in its entirety. Swimming.. Could she swim? Has she ever swam before? Maybe.. Yes – maybe! ”I can swim! Are we going to swim? It sounds fun.” Stepping closer, her fingers curled tighter into his jacket. ”Can we go?”

She could swim? That was good! Because Junior wasn't very good at swimming yet.. Theresa had taught him some, but, he was still kind of slow on the uptake.. Sure, he could float and, if he really needed to, he could probably swim out of a pool, but he didn't think he could actually save someone should he really need to help them. ..Unless he let them use him as a flotation device.. But, that didn't matter right then! Because the girl knew how to swim! ..But, where do they swim? He would say the beach, but that could mean people and Junior didn't really feel like walking around people in his current.. predicament. So, that meant the lake, since it hardly ever had people around there, it wasn't very far, and the water should be cold enough to.. to get rid of his.. yeah.

..T-then let's g-go to s-swim.” He said softly back to her, feeling her grip on his jacket without much care. In fact, he kinda liked it. He gave a small, quirky smile as he turned and started to slowly head out of the field into the forest. He had been here long enough to know his way to the lake – but, it was still odd to be leading someone else. He was so used to just following! He continuously glanced back at her to make sure she was still keeping pace, even pausing to give her chances to leave if she really didn't want to, but.. It didn't seem like that was happening. So, the boy continued on his way, quite happy even if he didn't look it.

~Exit Emery & Junior to the Lake!~
