::Surfs through::
WOO! Trunk!
...
Omigawsh I must answer all the questions I can find. domokun
All my edits usually end up facing right... probably because I'm used to seeing my avatar up in the corner, facing right.... but most of my edits are made facing left, for some strange reason.
Which screws things up, cause I ALWAYS have the light coming from the top right... when the avi is facing left or right... so the edit usually looks odd. >>!!
And I can't get away with selling edits for more then 500g. ^^;;; ... but most of my edit stuff is like just a dress and unlimited stuff... the only customs I've done I've gotten like 10k for though. I don't think my stuff's worth 5k, though.
Ball mouse is what I use. I want a laser. D: ... tablet maybe... but I think I'm actually better with a mouse, having drawn with it since I was like... since mouses for computers came OUT. @_o
I don't use photoshop so I can't use layers. I'd probably just draw on, though, because I'm so used to paint.
I'm wondering, what programs does everyone use? And avi edit styles they prefer? (pixelish... smoothish...)

I hold it as a general rule to do the light coming from the front at a 90* angle to the direction the avatar faces and up a little bit. So basically do your highlights as if the light's pointing downish at the frontal shoulder.
As far as the program question goes, you should check earlier in this thread, some poor fool asked it before and was swamped with replies. I think it was fairly regular that peeps used photoshop (although I personally prefer PSP, but I'm getting used to photoshop gradually - my graphic design course requires me to ;- wink
I style my avatars as I see fit. In technical terms this involves on/off transparency, no antialiasing and item by item clothing structure. In short, I layer it up BIG.

i have layers up the wazoo 3nodding
i keep the nude base, custom or not, at the bottom (unless theres a backpack or extra hair of course) n work my way up: face, shadows, hair, clothes, details, items, etc... oh n also of course, i have my backgrounds with the gridz below n above as i see fit. like i said, up the wazoo.
remember people, layers are our friends! wink

where to get reference pictures?
anywhere n everywhere u can get it man.. with google or yahoo, utilize the image search features or use the normal search for pictures, photos, screenshots, scans, n any other word u can use to refer to images. sites heavy with them will come ur way.
other than the internet, just look everywhere else: covers to movies n videogames, magazines, books, action figures, liquor bottles, playing cards, photos, product packaging, postcards, clothing, real life, or just pause the tv screen if u want, lord knows ive done that plenty of times too.
