His eyes rounded to look at her, and they were fiery with... something. Something... but what? <******** if I know," Ares said, gruffly, crossing his arms. "A lot of s**t has happened recently, and it's not your normal s**t, either, that you can flush away without problem. No, this s**t might mean my life in some way or another." His eyes, which had drifted briefly to look around the landscape as he thought, snapped back to Evermore's tearstreaked face, and he couldn't help but think that it was horribly ugly to see her cry when he'd seen her face in so many more pleasant ways, and the thought angered him for reasons he couldn't even fathom.
"Do you really think I'd just be unaffected, Evermore? I may be immortal, I may be a god, but doesn't mean it won't matter." He stood, walking away so that his back was to her, and he looked at the sky, arms firmly in place as if to protect himself from something. "Hell," he muttered, "in some ways it matters more." An old being, whether they appeared or acted young or not, couldn't make it through a life-altering experience as easily as a younger being, and Ares was older than old. He'd long ago lost track of just how old he was, or even a rough estimate of the centuries, the millenia.

Ever had to bite her bottom lip for a few moments to keep herself from sobbing out loud as Ares turned his back to her.
When she felt that she could speak without sobbing, she finally sighed and then began to speak. "Yes... Yes, I did expect you to deal with this without being too affected. You've faced other life-threatening moments in the past and you still somehow came to be this man that I... that I wanted to be around, to be with. Someone who I didn't mind taking a break from if that meant it would help him think things through."
"You've faced the Twilight of the Gods and you lived through it, you faced numerous attempts from the Titans trying to destroy all of the Olympian Gods so that they could rule once more, and you've faced two world wars. You faced all of this and came out fine. What the hell happened? Why are you letting this tiny thing change you like this?"

He looked at her, and he didn't seem to be feeling quite right. He gave her a long look, as if willing her to just suddenly understand. But that's not the way they worked. Neither of them were particularly empathetic--Evermore could be, but she was drawn more for anger, for bloodlust, for negative feelings. Her powers were not that strong so as to understand this.
"You think it's just the war, then." It was a statement. "If it had just been the war... You'd be right. I wouldn't be affected. If you don't get that there's been more going on recently than this goddamn war, you of all people, then I'm not sure I should tell you. Isn't that what you'd say to me? Isn't it? When you don't get what you've done, am I supposed to tell you? Or is it supposed to be that I wait for you to figure it out?"
Ares almost seemed to be talking to himself, but it was obvious that he wasn't intending that Evermore not hear. If it had been like that, she wouldn't have heard, simply.

{{Lizz introduced me to this song and I really like it. I think it will work great with both this scene and the one in Dragons right now. Apocalyptica}} {{lol! and I love how you had Ares describe Ever. Loved it! lol!}} Ever winced as Ares' words tore into her. He was right. She should have known it wasn't just the war that was bothering him, that had changed him. But she didn't think that she had so much influence over him, over the God of war. That was just daunting to think about. She had that kind of effect on him? She knew it couldn't just be because of his first love being gone. That would affected him centuries ago, and he had said 'what you have done', referring to Ever. She felt quite... well, she wasn't sure what exactly she felt. She felt many different emotions, mostly embarrassment and awe. Ever sighed and finally looked up at Ares with sad eyes. "I'm sorry. I didn't think I had that much... well, I didn't think I could affect..." She sighed, realizing that words just wouldn't help right now. "I am sorry. I don't know if me staying away from you would help you or hurt you. I just don't know. And... I'm so tired." Ever finally just gave up and allowed herself to wake up from her dream.

Up on Mount Olympus, shortly after Evermore and Aurora made some discoveries in the Room at Bai Ching, Zeus and Hades were meeting to discuss the Relics, especially the one that they assumed would be discovered soon at Bai Ching. Zeus had sent a summons to Ares and Aphrodite as well. The two gods were on Zeus' throne platform and Hades was pacing.
"And she is MY responsibility and MY charge! She is a Fury, Zeus, and, thus, is under my domain. I think you are simply trying to worm in on my territory because Evermore is the only connection you have to any of these Relics! Because of her, the Relic at Bai Ching is the only one you can actually visualize in your hands, the only one you could possibly have right now and it is killing you that you don't have it in your grasp now!"
Zeus swung around, lightning crashing down between them as he did so, and then moved his face directly in front of Hades. The only movement coming from Hades in response was the shifting of his hair in the wind that came rushing through the throne room.
"You are forgetting, dear brother, that I am King of the Gods. What you have control over, I have control over. Evermore would not even have been created if I had not thought of this plan and then allowed it. I want her brought here to answer our questions and to update us. The Fates have said that the strands of life are shifting again. I have a feeling this is due in part to one of the Relics. It is either the one Ever is finding for us or it is one of the others. Either way, we need information from her!"
Hades gritted his teeth and ground out, "I would still like to speak with her first, brother. I am your brother, not one of your children! I have dominion in the Underworld, which includes the Furies!"
Zeus spoke lowly, "And I want to question her here in front of us so that no piece of information is overlooked."

Ares arrived shortly, though he was visibly displeased about... something. It wasn't often that Ares was happy, to be certain, but he wasn't often upset either. Not that it truly mattered. He vaguely bowed, not really going down very far, out of habit. "Hi dad," he greeted, arms crossed.
He was wearing his new teacher-guise: a pair of slacks and a button-down shirt (simply because it was more teacher-ish) covered by a long, brown leather trenchcoat. His shoes were still boots, but they were at least 'teacher-appropriate.'

Zeus looked firmly at Hades once more before he turned to look at his son. He nodded briskly.
"Hello, Ares. How has your teaching assignment been going? Not good I assume by the look on your face."

"The teaching is fine. The students are surprisingly well-behaved, even if one or two disappears every few weeks and is never seen again." It was the Relic. He'd discovered absolutely nothing about it yet. It was almost as if Unwelcome Boulder didn't even have a Relic.

Zeus nodded. "That's great son... but I am not asking about the mortals. I am referring to the Relic."
Hades scoffed at the worthless exchange between the pair and started pacing slowly again.

Ares knew this, of course, but he just shrugged. "I have found nothing. Not a single trace other than the mere existance of the school. It's almost like the Relic doesn't exist at all." He frowned at admitting such a shortcoming out loud, but it wasn't as if he'd had a whole lot of time to search just yet.

Hades smirked ruefully. "Guess your son isn't as competent as you'd like to belief, brother."
A rumbling sound of thunder could be heard in the distance and Zeus' eyes grew stormy. He kept his eyes trained on Ares, though.
"Shall I assign a different god or goddess to Boulder, then? Someone who can find something? I can always send you back to Bai Ching to oversee things. You would not have to do much work. I believe Evermore has already either found the Relic or has a good inclination as to where it is."

Ares rolled his eyes. "No. It'd take longer for someone new to come in. There are a few leads I have not explored yet. I think I am getting closer." It was like playing a child's game with teenagers: they knew the rules and followed them wonderfully... but they were such experts at the game that it was very much harder to figure out.

Zeus arched an eyebrow. "You have not explored them, yet? Need I remind you, son, that you are there to find the Relic and not to teach? Teaching is merely a cover. I expect you to put all of your effort and focus on finding this Relic."

"Should I remind you that when there are no traces initially, there are even more leads to follow than if there are several laid out for you to follow from the start?" Ares' tone was rather mocking. "And to top that off, I do have to retain my cover. This is a school of assassins. It's harder to retain your cover in a school like that than in Bai Ching where the girls don't even think to question you."

Zeus looked at his son for awhile, almost stared him down. His insolence and attitude could aggravate him to no end. However, he could appreciate his attitude as well. He could see himself in Ares, and the God of War also needed that attitude in order to be successful.
He growled lowly. "Enough! Time to get to the reason I have called this meeting. Aphrodite is here, but I will fill her in later."
Zeus telepathically contacted the headmistress of Bai Ching. He hated asking for anything, but he could not teleport Evermore up here without her cooperation.
"Headmistress Krause. This is Zeus. Yes, THE Zeus. I require Evermore's attendance here now. She is a goddess and her presence is needed at this moment. Please allow me to teleport her up here."
