Sil gave a chuckle, waving her hand dismissively to Stoki. "No offense at all! It takes everyone a little while to get used to the skies. The high altitudes, the turbulence, the air sickness." The shifter shuddered a bit, shaking her head as if to get rid of bad memories. "It took me nearly three years to get my 'air legs'. I heard its even worse if you go out on the sea. But you can't get as good of star charts on the water as you can in the open skies."

The shifter soon ceased in her rambling, turning her attention to the other captain. A small smile crossed her lips, feeling a bit proud that her new crew member was getting this much attention. Sil didn't know much about Casimir trees herself. Probably just enough to keep it alive and keep the ship in the air, so she was definitely grateful to have Stoki along to help her out.

Sil's smile soon faded a bit as the mention of the military was brought up. Her body stiffened up a bit, as if going into a defensive mode. It took a couple of moments of convincing herself that she was okay before her joints unlocked and she relaxed again. Shifters and the military weren't known to have the greatest of histories together. Sil witnessed to many of her companions and friends die from pure exhaustion because they were used in the military as one small step above a tool, simply because of their useful shape shifting abilities.

The shifter shook her head, snapping herself out of what was sure to become a nice set of flashbacks. Her attention was drawn to the loud set of bells that started, and her eyebrow quirked. As far as she knew, there wasn't any sort of religious services today, unless there was a group here that Sil didn't know about. She looked around at her fellow tavern goers, trying to read their expressions and mannerisms to get a clue as to what was going on. They were upset, down about something.

Sil's ears twitched as the news finally reached them. "A ship down?" Her brows borrowed into a worried position as she looked to Stoki. "This isn't good. The last port we went to mentioned lost ships." She leaned back into her seat, putting a hand to her chin in thought. This was definitely making her job difficult. The dangerous routes she could easily avoid, but that wasn't the only reasons for the ships going down, and the Star Seeker had no real defenses against anyone who thought she would be a worthy pray.

Amber smiled at the bartender and took her drink. "Thank you." She took a sip of her drink and then grinned from ear to ear.

"This is delicious!" She gave the bartender more gold than she should have, not knowing how much the drink was.

Having been silent this whole time, Luciano had heard something about ships going missing, and a ship going down. He stood up and then looked and said to nobody in particular, "Well. . judging from the way this is all sounding, it doesn't happen too often, does it?" After stating an obvious fact, Luciano walked over to the door; the multiple chains on his pants making little 'clank!' noises while he walked; which he tried to silence the best he could. Luciano had never heard of any ships going down, or sinking, back in Gaia. So, he wasn't sure how to react to something like this. Even so, he thought he would ask questions, he looked over to Sil and Stok- who were the closest people to him at the time and he asked, "Should we go out and see if we can offer some assistance? I think it would be a good idea." He wasn't sure if the people in the room would be up for it, but it didn't hurt to ask. After being in the Military for so long, he still had some of the 'I must go out and do some good!' mindset left in him.

((Usually I would wait for Stoki and Victorian, but this place needs some life to it! So short post for nao.))

Sil jumped a bit, hearing a new voice in her close hearing range. The shifter turned, having to look back slightly over the back of the booth. The man addressing her was young, and a dark elf from what she could tell. Registering his suggestion, Sil soon shrugged, sinking back down into the seat of the booth. "Not sure what good it'll do." She waved her hand a bit dismissively in the air. "If the ship's been found, that means that there's already been a search crew out there."

The shifter paused, thinking for a moment. "And if not, there's not much me and my crew can do. Even if I do get my crew together - which is a lot harder than most people think - I captain a scientific vessel, not an ambulance." With a nod, the woman glanced to the elf man again. "Simply put...I'm an astronomer, not a search and rescue."

((XD Yeah, I was feeling bad for have killed the Role Play for a while! Thanks, Sil!))

Luciano wasn't too happy with the response he had gotten, so he replied, "That is possibly the worst excuse I think I have ever heard," Luciano walked in her direction, but keeping a good distance away, "Is that really what you would say to those people out there missing a brother? Or a sister?- A father? or a Mother?. . or A friend, even?" Luciano folded his arms, and though you couldn't see it under his mask, he was frowning. He said to this 'Astronomer', "And so what if you're an 'Astronomer'?!- I'm a journalist! Yet I believe that it would be the right thing if we went out there- Regardless of who we frakken are- to help these people. The more help that these people have, the better their chances of finding them will be!" Luciano looked around the room, his arms unfolded and he said, "I don't know about any of you, here, but I'm going out there to help- I may not have a ship of my own, but that isn't going to prevent me from helping these people. If you're with me, I'll be outside finding a way to lend them a hand." Luciano grabbed his bag, and started for the door.

Feeling a bit of a superiority complex coming along, Sil scoffed, crossing her arms. She wasn't going to get into an argument with some kid, especially not in front of one of her own crew members. Still, the elf's words started to eat away at her, picking at the very back of her head until she couldn't stand it anymore. She quickly slid out of the booth, getting up to her feet and facing the elf before he could leave. "And what do you think you'll be able to do, huh?" She exclaimed, giving a small bit of a huff at the end of her question. "You know playing the hero gets a lot of people killed, kid."

The shifter then crossed her arms again, moving to support her weight on one leg. "Besides, where do you think that ship disappeared at? Hm?" She gave a bit of a patronizing smirk to the man. "Unless you're a highly experienced captain - which part of me doubts - you'll need a rescue team for yourself."

Sil soon chuckled however, sitting back down in the booth. "But go a head, go. You youngsters know exactly what you're doing, don't you? Gaia forbid you listen to any of us with experience."

Well, so much for not starting an argument.

((Note: Sil's about 300 years old. XD Which is why she calls him kid and youngster and such.))

((OHHHH!!! That explains the 'kid' stuff! Ok! XD!!))

Luciano didn't feel like explaining his own Military credentials to anyone; For now, he would keep that part of his life on the D.L.
The Dark Elf stopped dead in his tracks. He stood up straight, and tall- as tall as his own height would permit, and he said, "
I may not know where to look, but in my experience it never hurts to ask- And where they want me, that's where I will be." Luciano turned around to face her and he said to her, "If you're going to help me, fine. Help. If not, stay out of my way." Luciano didn't move a muscle after that. A huge part of him hoped he had gotten to this woman just enough to enlist her help.

((Sorry guys, I've been rather distracted lately))

Stoki, sat there mortified. Another ship disappeared. She had heard the bells before and knew what it meant. She knew in her heart that there was nothing she could do to help. It's not like she has any kind of training that might be useful. Stoki folded her hands together and sat there with her head down offering up a moment of silence to those who were lost. Maybe, just maybe there would be survivors. All she could do was hope.

Stoki was about to say something to Sil when she heard a man addressing them. Stoki, looked at him and tilted her head. He was a dark elf..the first she had ever seen. How odd that one would be in Denia. She shrugged her shoulders at his suggestion. She listen to Sil's answer and shook her head to agree. There wasn't anything a bunch of scientist could do. Stoki, imagined they would just get in the way. Better to send in someone who could actually do something.

Stoki looked back at the dark elf who didn't seem to happy with Sil's answer. Stoki thought for a moment, Why would anyone make excuses? It would be reckless to send a bunch of unexperienced people who run the risk of getting lost themselves. When the dark elf said sister, Stoki stiffened up. She tuned out the rest of his speech as her thoughts drifted to her own sister. Anguish washed over her. He was right..if it was her sister Stoki would do anything to help out. She was ready to offer assistance when that old feeling of guilt hit her. She did help out her sister. The price was to high to pay. She closed her eyes and shook her head to chase away the memories. No, that wasn't something that she could afford to do. Not here, not now. Stoki, opened her eyes. Thankful for Sil's level headed answers and reasoning, Stoki just shook her head to agree. On the verge of tears there was no way she could answer for herself.

After the dark elf's response to Sil, Stoki responded with a slightly shaky voice. "I don't think anyone is standing in your way. She's only trying to warn you of the dangers of rushing in without a plan. If you don't do things right, they may have to send a search party after you as well. Your best bet is to wait until you hear something official about search and rescue efforts. Then offer your assistance with something that you can actually do. We can't really offer anything because we don't have the capabilities. Don't you think, that if we did..we would be at the forefront waving our banner?

((That’s okay, Stoki! You’re here now, that’s what matters. biggrin ))

Sil turned her ear a bit to hear what else the elf man had to say. She then chuckled a little to herself, grabbing her hat and putting it back over her messy blue gray hair. Another smirk crossed the shifters lips, and a general look of mischievousness filled her eyes. Well, not that she had gotten started, why stop now? “I’m sorry, but I wasn’t aware that me sitting in my seat would be getting in your way. If I recall correctly, you had addressed me first about the matter, and you were the one to get angry about my declining in your offer. But I’m so sorry, I’ll be sure to stay out the way of your” The shifter paused in her little speech, putting her fist to her mouth and clearing her throat. When she spoke again, her voice sounded like the young elven man. “Good heroic mission that’ll clearly end in suicide.” She shifted her vocal cords back to produce her own voice again, giving another laugh.

The man’s voice hadn’t been that hard to mimic. It only took a few sentences and listening close enough to the pitch and range of his voice to figure it out. After that it was simply a matter of changing the thickness of her vocal cords to produce the right sound. Mimicking voices had been Sil’s specialty as a young shifter, and in places where shifters weren’t common, it was a very nice ability to have.

Sil’s ears twitched, the tone of Stoki’s voice having drawn her attention to the woman. Pretty quickly the shifter’s expression faltered to a look of concern. Surely the conversation couldn’t have upset the girl all that much. Then again, out of all of her crew members, Sil knew the least about Stoki. As much as she tried to get the girl to open up, the child was a bit of a mystery to Sil. With a sigh, she pulled back the corner of her mouth a bit, glancing away from Stoki. “Boy, I suggest you find yourself another captain to seek the services of. Obviously we’re not the crew for the job.” She didn’t glance to the dark elf, but she knew that he was still standing there within hearing distance.

Amber casually sipped her drink, pretending like she wasn't eavesdropping when she really was listening in on the conversation. She knew it was best to mind her own business, but she could not drown out the people discussing the ship disappearing. In fact, she couldn't drown out any noise. Who could, honestly?

But anyways, there was no reason for her to get involved, even if she felt that the Dark Elf man was calling her (along with everyone else in the tavern) out. She was not a captain or a crew member but a mere artist that just had a passion for painting anything that came to her mind. Someone of that caliber had no business trying to locate a missing ship; like the woman with the blue grey hair said, it would only cause more problems.

'Maybe I'll just make a painting of a shipwreck...It would be fitting for the situation at hand...'

Immediately Amber felt guilty and discarded the thought. Now was not the time to be impolite and heartless.

Stoki sat there in the booth with her elbows resting on the table. She felt down, she was normally good at hiding her problems. She found it hard to force the thoughts out of her head and even harder to focus on what was happening. Stoki was listening to Sil as best as she could, but her mind kept wandering. Her thoughts drifted to the time her sister caught her first fish. The girl was probably seven years old. Stoki had been sleeping outside under a tree while her mother tended to the garden. It was a hot summer day and Minya had come home screaming with excitement. She was carrying a fish with her bear hands, and just couldn't wait to show it off. Stoki was so upset that she had been woken up. She intercepted Minya before she could show their mother the fish. Stoki wrestled the fish away and threw it as far as she could. Which wasn't very far for a four year old...Did Sil really just change her voice? Stoki smiled a little as her memories faded away. Stoki wasn't sure if she was hearing things or not. She wouldn't be suprised. Sil had told her she was a shapeshifter. At the time, Stoki was suprised. She had never met a shapeshifter before. Hell she didn't even know they existed.

Stoki wondered if she had seen Sil display her talents before this. To her knowledge she hadn't but, who could really tell with a shapeshifter? Either way Stoki found herself quite amused with Sil and her mockery of the dark elf. Stoki normally wouldn't laugh at the expense of others..but she couldn't help herself. Stoki let out a small giggle. Sil was pretty funny. A silly thought crossed her mind.."Sil!! can you do mine too?" Stoki rubbed her hands together in anticipation. This was going to be a riot for her.

The first thing Luciano thought as soon as he was starting to be mocked, was "If you knew who I had been, and what I had done in the past, you wouldn't be so quick to poke fun at me." But naturally taking the high road, he replied to her instead, "Fine." And then started out the door. He was then wondering if whoever was in charge around here was going to send out an announcement about finding the Captain and, or, his crew. Luciano knew what it was like to lose a few good men, he knew how difficult it was to unknowingly send men to their deaths and he had regretted ever having done so. Thinking about it made him very sick. But he knew it had to be done.
Luciano walked out of the Tavern, and then started walking around until he could find someone with information.

Sil’s brow quirked a little, glancing back enough to see the elf man leave the tavern. He seemed too serious. Granted, the situation at hand was probably pretty serious, but it didn’t hurt to be somewhat light hearted in times such as this. Still, her mind started to wander at the predicament. If ships kept going down in that spot, then obviously it would have been deemed dangerous, and people should really know better than to go there. So, there had to have been a good reason for so many ships to head in that direction, only to face their untimely doom. Sil wasn’t much of an adventurer, but the thought of what could be out there still dug at her curiosity.

The shifter looked to Stoki again, smiling once she saw that the girl’s mood had improved. She sat back more into her booth seat, pausing for a second. “Okay. Hmmm…” After a moment or so, Sil coughed to clear her throat, changing her voice again to match Stoki’s. “How’s this?” Honestly, Sil didn’t like using her abilities all too often while she was out in public. It was too easy for someone to mistake her as a demon, and that wasn’t any drama that she really needed. She already spilled the beans, as it was, whenever she changed her voice to sound like the elf, so it was a little late for her to worry about getting an accusing finger pointed to her.

Sil cleared her throat again, returning her vocal cords back to their natural size. She rested her arms on the table, looking around the tavern a bit. It had quieted down considerably in the past few moments, and it seemed like the news of the fallen ship had gradually begun to pass and return to normality. With a small sigh, Sil looked back to Stoki. “I’ve got to run a few errands later, you wanna come with me?” Sil paused, thinking about her proposition for a moment. Stoki could go to the Observatory no problem, it was open to anyone, but Sil’s trip down to the Cove could be a problem. Soon enough, Sil mentally waved the thought away. There wouldn’t be a problem with Stoki as long as she stuck close to Sil, or so the shifter hoped.

It had been a long journey for Kiaori and her ship. Now, taking off her hat and looking around the tavern for some place to sit, she felt something like peace.
Kiaori went straight to the bar and asked for a cool beer. Sat down in one of the old stools, and payed for her drink. "Yes...cheers for me..."
While drinking, she thought about Donovan, nice guy, a good captain, and he was gone with all his crew and that fine ship. Well, bad luck is bad luck, that's how captains live and die. Anyway... She lifted her jar and looked around one more time
" For Donovan! this round goes by me!"

((Sorry to fail you guys again! Work has been killing me. It sucks working full time as a manager))

Stoki tilted her head to the side as Sil spoke with her voice. Sil did an amazing job. It was a smooth, quite, slightly mid pitch, girlie voice...Stoki found it a bit odd to hear her own voice from across the booth. She was excited. Stokiaci, herself, had no extraordinary talents. So, when she met someone who could do something that few others could she was amazed. All she could do was respond with a simple "Wow." Sil could get away with a lot of things, if she wanted to. Heck it would be easy for her to frame someone, or to impersonate someone. That could be useful gathering information. Stoki was really impressed.

Stoki was well rested, although still hungry. She needed to get her soil samples up to the research center. Thinking about those soil samples made her head spin. Something was definitely up. It was normal to take samples with the change of the season. The Gaia Botanical Society has been taking soil samples daily for a year now. There had been tests and some of the earliest samples had been analyzed, but they were so backlogged there wasn't anything conclusive. What could the Society be looking for? Stoki, didn't even know. It was rather late and the research center would be pretty deserted at this hour. Stoki, wondered if she could do some snooping.

Stoki was about to excuse herself when Sil asked her if she wanted to come with her to run errands. "Hmm...I have a few things to do myself...research center, samples. I'd love to accompany you." Stoki answered a bit absentmindedly. She was busy rummaging through her bag. Stoki frowned, one of the samples had lost it's lid. Her entire bag was covered in soil. It seemed these things always happened to her. Stoki pinched the bridge of her nose. She couldn't even remember what she had opened her bag for. Stoki pulled out the container. It was labeled, south quadrant, depth c; Mother Tree. Not terribly important, nobody would miss this particular sample. She looked at the container again then peered into her bag. The soil looked normal enough but something was off. If Stoki didn't have other things on her mind she just might have noticed. Instead, she tossed the container in the bag, stood up and stretched. She grabbed the bag and slung it over her shoulder. It suddenly crossed Stoki's mind that perhaps she should be more careful before she ruined any more samples.

Stoki watched another newcomer enter the tavern. She offered a round in honor of Donovan. Stoki smiled. Hopefully, someone with the right skills would find Captain Donovan and bring him home. With luck the crew was still alive. Donovan was a capable man. He would see to their survival. Stoki, being underage, declined the offer.
