Pyros stuck his nose in the air, sniffing. He knew her scent well now, it was a sweet and comforting scent. He had been alone for too long, and to have someone to talk to had made him happy for the first time since the tragedy.
He finally caught a whiff of Layla and charged swiftly in that direction, then hearing rustling and movement.
When he finally reached her he saw that she was stuck, and stuck well. He nudged at the wrap around her to get a good look at how it had been tangled.
"Why didn't you wait for me? Were you that eager to get away? I must be really horrible." He grunted.

Layla's ears dropped at his comment, "NO, its not that at all, you're lovely" she blurted out, puttig a paw to her mouth at what she said, "oops, um.... its just.... i didnt want to be a burden, i saw your face when you saw the creature, and .... well i caused that, i dont want to hut you" she said, blushing, unsure of why she was being totally honest with Pyros, "i'm just not good enough for you to be kind to, i'm worthless, like my parents said, it'd have been better if i hadn't been born, then no one would get troubled by me" she said with a sigh as he moved round her to figure out how she was tangled.

''Well if you're going to believe that nonsense, then maybe I should leave you here!" he blurted, "Tch...why would you believe that?" He had said he'd leave her, but began wriggling her free, pulling the wrap and tearing it from her matted fur. He did this until he was sure she could get free. "I want you to stay with me, I happen to like your company. Now get yourself out of there so we came go home- er, back to my place!" he shouted out, embarrassed at his mistake.
She won't stay with the likes of me... he thought to himself.

Layla huffed, "its what i was raised believing Pyros, i cant change that" she said testily, trying not to wriggle as he pulled at the places she was tangled, "OUCH!" she said several times as he pulled at the bits of fur tangled, she stood gritting her teeth while she waited for him to finish. Once he was done she wriggled out of the brambles, slowly as her side still felt rather sore, but after the herbs and things, it wasnt as bad as before. "Thank you Pyros," she said shortly, then her eyes opened wide at what he'd just said "i.....i like you too Pyros, its just........" and she lowered her head, looking at the tangles she almost shrieked "OH MY GOD! look at my fur?!" she exclaimed "looks like i'll need a sheltered spot for a while" she said slightly cheekily, hoping he caught onto what she meant.

"Go ahead back to the burrow," he snapped, "do what you want." Pyros took off in flight, in the opposite direction of the large tree.
I knew she didn't like me, she probably only stays for the food and shelter and pretends to put up with me. Tch.
He flew for awhile and then landed down, sliding in the sand of the beach. By the time he reached his destination, there was a sunset glowing just above the horizon. He stared up into the pink and orange blazing sky as he dipped his paws into the clear water.
Who needs her! I don't need anyone, especially the likes of her.
He was more hurt than angry and trying to convince himself that she wasn't worth his time.
I may not understand what she went through with her family, but that's not my damn fault.
Deep down he was thinking of her and worrying, but her pushed it to the back of his mind and closed his eyes, remembering the wonderful days he had spent with that gorgeous female, his best friend, his mate. A tear streamed down his black fur as he enjoyed the cool breeze that came from the ocean. He listened to the waves rolling and splashing, and loved the warmth of the soft sand on his paws.
He shook off the water from his paws and curled up under a large palm leaf hiding him from view.
I knew I shouldn't have jumped on inviting her like that. I knew she'd say no... She's nothing like HER...

Layla stared after Pyros "but.. i dint mean....." she broke off as he took off, the wrong way, her eyes brimmed a little with tears as he'd taken what she'd said totally the wrong way, she waited for an hour or more where she was, hoping he'd come back, *i'll say i'm sorry, i'll admit i realy like him, if only he'll come back* she thought to herself as it grew dark.
Heading back to the tree she peered inside, praying he'd be there, but no, and no scent of him either recently *so he hasnt been back* she mused, curling up near the remnats of the fire, too upset at the way they'd parted to even groom herself. Facing the entrance she didnt tie the vines, she hoped he would return.
She leapt up, after glancing around, and realised there wasn't anything for him to eat, *He'll be hungry when he gets back, from all that flying* she reasoned, so she quickly left the burrow, hunting for mice, rats and other small creatures, along with some fruit, she made a little bag with a leaf to carry it all in.
After a while of hunting, it had grown darker, the sun no longer visible through the trees so she started back, pleased with her haul for Pyros.

"Pyros...pyros...help! Pyyyyroooosss..."
Pyros wriggled in his sleep and awoke with a jolt. He was sweating and sobbing, having dreamt about her, he thought she had been calling out to him but i was merely a dream.
It was pitch black outside as the waves of black water crashed on the shore. He had been sleeping for at least a few hours.
"This is wrong," he thought. "I have to go back!"
With one launch off of the ground her sped through the sky, though it would take him awhile to get to the burrow.
He swooped and dodged through the maze of trees, flying low in case Layla was still out and about. He reached the tree, noticing the opening was still wide open...and ran in, skidding to a stop and looking around frantically.

Layla had the tree in sight when a blur shot into it, she crept forwards, hoping it was Pyros but being cautious about the thing the night before. She sighed in relief as she saw it WAS Pyros, smiling to herself she grabbed the leaf full of her foragings, draggin it into the burrow "Pyros, i.....i fetched these for you" she said, clawing the leaf open swiftly, standing back from it to indicate that what was there was his, "i would have lit a fire but i dont know how" she said, eyes shining as she stood there, fur matted a little, and blood spattered slightly from the mice and the odd rat she'd caught for him.

Pyros stood there silent for what seemed like forever, he was surely not good at apologizing and searched for the correct words. He struggled with his search, but came up empty-handed. Instead of any spoken words her rushed up to her and lightly nuzzled her neck, simply saying "I'm sorry."
Though simple and maybe a bit too forward, he knew she may not accept and may even be offended to some extent. He backed away just as quickly as he had rushed toward her, blushing in all of his nervousness and slight embarrassment. He hadn't expressed any emotion to a soul in ages, and was unsure of why this female was so special to him. He glanced over his shoulder at her, not saying a word...and then lit up a fire in the pit and began to cook up her findings.

Layla was taken aback as he nuzzled her, for a second she didnt know what to do, but she closed her eyes, smiled and was about to nuzzle back when he backed off. She didnt say a word as he moved and lit the fire, instead she moved towards him, and gave hium a small lick on the cheek, before bluching deeply herself, her creamy fur turning pink, she started to groom herself nervously as he cooked the meat.

He finsihed cooking, sprinkling on herbs for flavor, also because she needed them for her health. He tore off part of the leaf that the food had been carried in and placed some meat on it, and then surrounded it with fresh fruit. He nudged it toward her. "This beats sleeping alone under a leaf," he chuckled. "Thanks to you we have food, but you could have been attacked."
He fixed up some food for himself and sat down, but not before throwing some wood into the flames. Instead of sitting opposite of her, he sat down next to her.
"Just promise me you'll be careful while you stay here, and after you leave. I want to know that you'll stay safe."
He looked down at his food, thinking and realizing that she would soon leave and he'd be alone again.
*I'll just enjoy the time we have, for now...*

Layla giggled at Pyros, cleaning her fur as best she could, annoyed that her tail remained dirty and tangled because she couldnt turn enough to get to it, she shook her head at her silliness. Making sure he ate a little first "i'm sorry that i worried you, i felt bad for eating all your food, and..... thought you'd be hungry after flying, i've heard it uses more energy than walking or running" she said smiling as he st beside her, bending to her meal. "i must admit, this cooked food is tasty, until i came here, i've always eaten raw" she said, moving her tail nearer to him.

"Heh, yeah I ate raw until recently too. My mate taught me-" he stopped abruptly, "Sorry. I suppose why someone would think flying is a lot of work but really, it's mostly gliding. I don't have to put forth much effort."
He looked at her tail and noticed how dirty it was. Assuming her moving it closer to him he assumed that she wanted him to clean it, but was too proud to ask. He cleaned off the dirt and smoothed out her fur.
"Better?" he asked, continuing to eat.
"Layla," he started, "have you ever been to the beach?"

Layla didnt push him, seeing that taling about his mate was painful, "what's it like to fly?" she asked, wonder in her voice, trying to imagine it. She almost jumped as Pyros moved to groom her tail "thats wasn't...." but she let him do it, so she didnt make him feel unwanted like she had before, she actually enjoyed the rhythm of the grooming, closing her eyes a little, smiling. She jerked aware as he asked a question "the beach? .. no i havent" she said.

"Flying is...well, it makes you feel so free and it also allows for easy travel. I do wish you could experience it Layla." He smiled at her.
"Tomorrow," he started, "after we get some sleep, will you let me show you the beach?"
He layed down and rested his head on his paws, curling his tail up against his body. He yawned, after all it had been such an eventful and busy night. He was content, with a full stomach and good company.
"I'm glad you're here Layla, even if we've had our bad moments and been, well, mean to one another. I'm sorry I caused you so much pain." he said, looking at her injured side.
