After getting out of the hot tub, Rayne decided to take a breather by walking along the beach. The cool winter air would soothe his mind and cool.....other things. The path from the onsen to the shoreline was cold, but the briskness felt amazing. He SHOULD have worn something other than shorts, but he was always a hot blooded guy.
It was at the beach that something caught his attention. As he walked along the receding shoreline, He thought he saw someone eating a GIANT fish. It was only as he stepped closer that he saw something that really surprised him. That someone WAS the fish. Getting closer he could see that it appeared to be stranded, and rather sickly.
"only one thing to do" Rayne thought casting a quick healing spell to alleviate that the poor fish thing may feel. He picked it up and carefully dragged it back from the sandy beach to the snowy ground of the island. Making quick steps he made it back to the Onsen, where the hot tub warmed the air and made it comfortable inside.
A smile drew across his face when he saw the hot tub, but quickly shook his head. He carefully dragged the fish man to one of the cool pools and plopped him into the water. Watching him as you would a goldfish you just brought home from the store.

Shinichi had passed out from the lack of water and nourishment the liquid brought to his body. His arms were limp and his body heavy as Rayne dragged him up to the Onsen. The scent of hot water in the air made the merman slowly stir from his unconscious state, but the cold water on his skin and scales as he fell into the pool was almost a shock, rejuvenating his system. Taking a deep breath in the water, he panted and looked down at himself, thankful that at least someone helped him in his time of need.
Swimming a few laps to stretch himself, he was feeling better and moved over to where a young male was staring down at him. He stared back up at him, tilting his head slightly as he looked at him. This person saved his life and he was very thankful of that. Feeling slightly mischievous, he raised his hand out of the water slightly to mislead the male before splashing him in the face.
Giggling, he swam away and rested in the water, feeling a lot better now that he was actually in the company of people. He yearned for some kind of acceptance for so long, he was starting to become hopeless and almost wanted to stay stranded on that beach, but something drove him to stay alive. Shinichi swam back to the edge where Rayne was and brought his head up out of the water. He smiled shyly up at the male and ducked his head slightly. “Thanks… for saving me and all…” He flushed deeply, the male was rather attractive and his silver hair shined in the reflecting water. The male was like an angel, Shinichi felt safe to just be himself around the man and felt something odd. Was it acceptance? Did this man accept him for what he was and not shun him? Shinichi hoped so, he wanted some kind of contact that he had craved for so very long.

The sound of a heated argument could be heard drifting in from the outer hall.
""
""
A struggle seemed to ensue. Eventually, the female voice cried out in frustration. ""
The door opened.
In stepped Jessie, head held high, jaw clenched with annoyance. If he could have counteracted the dehumanising effect of the woman who stood just behind, forcing him inside like the barrel of a gun, with sheer gait of pride... well, he came very close to succeeding. It was the obvious strand of anger which failed him, the whiff of rage that trickled into the hardened intensity of his single red eye. The two elves had now acquired matching hooded robes - black with gold trim, and both open at the front. Cressa's seemed slightly oversized, as if they were meant for a man, but the misfit was subtle due to her scaled-up frame. Underneath, she still wore nothing, unlike her male companion, who had abandoned the rules in order to don a pair of black three-quarter length trousers.
Cressa was the first to react to their company, blinking in surprise, her white eyebrows raising with intrigue. "Oh, look! It's the white-haired rodent from before, and..." she smirked, eyeing Shinichi, "My, my. True meaning to the term 'flying fish.' Tch, crossbreeds..."
"Cressa!" Jessie exhorted, and she rolled her eyes. Of course he'd be on the fish's side. "I suggest you keep your mouth shut, before I refuse to accompany you any further."
"Nyuh nyuh nyuh," she mimicked, "How many times have I heard THAT? Pff, I'm going for a drink. I NEED one after all the grief you've put me through!" she informed him, dramatically rolling her eyes. However, her face then split into a cruel smile, changing as quickly as the drop of a hat. "You have fun with your new little pet."
He watched her go, frowning with resentment, before kneeling down at the water's edge. It seemed he would spend his entire life apologising on Cressa's behalf, but if he could improve the impression she must have left upon the poor, young creature it was surely worth the effort. "I apologise on behalf of my friend. She has no emotions herself, you see, and so she cares nothing for those of others," he said, wanting to be gentle as usual, but the words came out sharply, bitten and bitter.

Shinichi shook his head; he knew the young male didn’t have to apologize to him. The woman seemed course and wouldn’t change her ways, so he didn’t mind. It wasn’t like he had gotten that kind of treatment before. He was surprised, however, that the young male was so kind, just like Rayne was to him. Smiling softly, he moved over to the edge Jessie was at and let part of his head stick out of the water to watch the male.
The white haired merman was feeling rather mischievous still, holding back a grin as he drew some water into his mouth. He tilted his head back and sprayed the water over Jessie’s face and giggled, diving back under the water before resurfacing. The young male’s head and hair was soaked now and Shinichi laughed softly. “It’s alright… I’ve had it said to me before…” He didn’t want to lie to these people, honesty was the best way to gain acceptance. “I’m Shinichi…" The white haired merman was still shy and nervous as always, he never got much interaction with very many people, let alone a surface dweller. Ducking under the water again, he swam around for a bit, finding it hard to stay still as he felt the water on his scales. Resurfacing once more, he looked to Rayne and then back to Jessie, it seemed as if these people accepted him enough, which made him more than happy. He finally had someone to play with.

Jessie waited patiently for a reply from the shy young merman... only to get a face full of spit.
"Yeuch..." he hissed, running his fingers through the front part of his hair, which screened the left side of his face. It was dripping wet.
He rubbed his eye clear of the water, looking back up as the merman laughed. Somehow, though, he couldn't bring himself to be annoyed. In fact, he felt his previous annoyance melting away.
"I'm afraid I know how that feels," he replied gravely, watching in bemusement as Shinichi swam and frolicked about. He hadn't had much contact with mermaids, but knew something of their playful ways. Still, as much as he liked children, it might have been a stretch to treat this man as such. He wouldn't like to insult him in such a way.
"I'm Jessie. It's a pleasure."

Evelyn Evelyn pulled her feet from the pedicure pool, a content smile on her face. Oh, she remembered when she used to get pampered like that daily. The thought brought her hands to her head, checking to make sure her tiny pink jeweled tiara was still secure. Satisfied that it was, she stepped into her fuzzy pink bath slippers. Oh, the delight. The soft material was like heaven on her feet. It truly had been too long. Pulling her shawl up around her shoulders, she covered her chest then picked up her frozen strawberry daiquiri. She adored the Onsen, but it had been especially loud today… Downing her daiquiri, she approached where the bar was and asked the bartender for Sex on the Beach. She had entertained the idea of ordering Safe Sex on the Beach, but the daiquiri hadn’t affected her at all, and she needed a little buzz. Passing the small, cool pool, she glanced in at a noise. She didn’t even notice the strange angel-fish-boy, nor the newcomer with the striking eyes and hair. Perhaps if she wasn’t frightened by what she saw, she would have made a joke about three men being in the same pool alone, but Jessie always frightened her. In fact, the moment she saw him, her hand started shaking and she dropped her Sex on the Beach, the glass shattering. In a quick movement, she was kneeling over the shattered mess, apologizing and cleaning it up with her towel.

The white haired male smiled up at Jessie, tilting his head slightly in a playful way before stretching his hand out to the drow. He had never seen one and person and this certainly was a pleasure to meet someone so kind. Shinichi was about to shake hands with the male until the sound of a glass falling to the ground to shatter and spill its contents to the ground. He couldn’t see what made the sound, due to Jessie dominating his field of vision at the moment.
Moving alongside the edge of the pool, he saw a young female cleaning up the glass and spill. Shinichi had never been close to women and never really cared for them. The only one he cared for and loved was his mother; she was so kind to him even though everyone shunned him. Not many women got close to him or even wanted to look at him. They would make noises of disgust and move away from him.
Pouting softly, he ducked down into the water slightly, the top of his head to his nose sticking out to peek over the edge of the pool to watch the female. It wasn’t that he hated women, he just didn’t want the rejection any more from people, and he was already becoming accepted by these two. The white haired male watched the girl intently, not really sure if he was afraid or just nervous.
Reaching up to grip the sides of the pool, he pulled his head up out of the water more to peek over the edge of the pool a little more, watching the girl with slightly wide eyes. She seemed scared. Was she scared of him? He hoped not, he never got to meet her properly and at least show her he was kind and meant no harm to anyone. Swishing his tail in the water slightly, he tilted his head as he watched the girl finish cleaning up her mess.

Jessie reached out to shake the merman's hand, but was distracted by the sound of breaking glass. He glanced back over his shoulder sharply as Evelyn fumbled with the clearing of her mess. However, he paid her little attention, and turned back towards the pool after only a moment of assessing the situation.
"So, do you have much experience of the surface world?" he asked conversationally of the easily-distracted merman, still kneeling formally. "What are your impressions so far?"

Shinichi was hesitant to turn his attention away from the female before looking back to Jessie. He tilted his head at the question and had to think hard about that one. This was the first time he had interacted with a surface dweller that wasn’t the overseer. Though his clamlyness did come from the ocean, so he didn’t count, and he never did get to meet him directly. “I… I’ve never really gotten close enough to you surface dwellers to know… This is the first time I’ve ever been this far from the ocean. I… I was stupid enough to get stranded, but I’m glad someone helped me… I’m also really glad that you didn’t… shun me. I’ve been alone almost all my life and… I’ve been craving some attention over it.” Shinichi propped himself up on his arms and rested his head on his arms. “What is this place called? This… island. It’s so far away from main land, yet there are still so many people here, why is that?” Shinichi had been watching this island for a year now off and on; it was a while before he decided to approach the island to study more closely. He didn’t regret getting stranded on the beach now; he never would have met these two people.

Jessie raised his eyebrow at this information. Though it wasn't totally surprising that the wide-eyed young thing, seemingly so fascinated with them, was inexperienced, he hadn't been expecting for this to be his very first contact with land-dwellers. (He couldn't rightly say surface-dwellers, considering... though maybe he did fit into that category after all.) Hopefully, they were making a good impression so far, no thanks to Cressa. (Some things never changed...)
Still, a little bit of concern rising from his authority began to swell. It seemed irresponsible to allow a newcomer - injured, as he said he had been - to remain out here, amongst these children who could do nothing for him. They'd had quite a few injured initiates stumble into what was effectively the Temple's parish, and each time they were immediately brought to the Priestess or Hyaku, the doctor, for surveying.
He glanced at Rayne, who seemed totally disinterested in continuing the conversation, his attention elsewhere - namely on the young, blonde girl. Had he been the one to rescue Shinichi? Somehow he doubted it. He didn't seem the type who would be up to the sort of heavy-duty lifting required to transport a gigantic man-fish. Unless, of course, the fool had simply dragged the poor creature the considerable distance from the beach, paying no heed to any damage he might be causing to the delicate parts of the tail.
In any case, with the awkwardness of the tail any further shifting would have to be a two-man job. At least Shinichi seemed happy enough where he was for now. After explaining his situation to him, he could thereafter propose any future plans.
"This land is called the Isle de Gambino," he explained patiently. "To the east is a busy, developed town and a port. However, you have found yourself at the last outpost of the Benevolent Order of the Overseer..."
The Captain paused momentarily, to stress the final part of the sentence in a still-even tone "And you are very welcome here."

The steam really HAD affected his head it seemed. He felt so spacey lately and in no time there were even people filling the onsen. However the company now seemed rather bland here. At least the fish boy has some company. He hated babysitting, and was happy to be peace again. Slipping off his towel he walked over to the hotubs and gently slipped inside.
That was when he noticed how the only woman in the onsen was making so much noise after seeing the drow man. He couldn't help but bust up laughing. "You scared the Sex right out of that girl Mr. Pirate!" he yelled over in jessie's direction. He said grabbing a towel and walked over to give her a hand with a smile. She was kinda cute, but he wanted some time to relax, so he tried not to talk to her while helping her. "it's a good thing your soft or else all the girls would run from you."

Evelyn Evelyn’s breath caught in her throat at the man’s comment in shock, then began coughing, blushing fiercely. She had heard all about Coline and Jessie’s whirlwind romance, and did not need the combat teacher’s star student attacking her over Onsen gossip. When the man began helping her clean up her mess, she smiled weakly at him. “Thank you,” she said, but left it at that. He seemed distant. Dashing and debonair, definitely, but distant. When Evelyn heard the striking man speak about Jessie being soft she was shocked. Furthermore when Jessie welcomed the man in the pool, she couldn’t believe it. Jessie was nice? Could it be her aversion to the man was unfounded? But he had scolded the Overseer. The Overseer. But what was he talking about with “surface dwellers” and such. Unless she was missing something… Her curiosity and sudden confidence that Jessie would not roundhouse her in the face convinced her to move closer to the pool, and more importantly the boy in it. But he was no boy at all. Well, he was in the gender sense of the word, but he had a tail—a mermaid, er, merman, tail. It was the most magnificent thing she’d ever seen—next, of course, to the Overseer. “Excuse me, monsieur, but may I see your tail s'il vous plaît?”

Shinichi was about to say something to Jessie before Rayne’s voice cut in. He giggled softly when he heard his remarks and smiled. His attention was brought back to Jessie as he gazed at the male’s face. He really liked this drow, he was the first one to actually talk with him and carry a conversation. It was very enjoyable indeed. “Wow… I never thought there was an outpost here… I served under the Overseer and fought with him, but I only caught glimpses of him…” He thought back to the war and shook his head, thankfully it was all over. “I guess I’m at the right place then." Shinichi rested his head on his arms once more and smiled softly, thankful that he found other people apart of B.O.O. This truly was a great find.
Shinichi was startled when the young female approached him, causing him to give a soft sound and dive back under the water, swimming away. He didn’t like women. The only one he liked was his mother, but the other women he had met mostly mocked him and were never kind like many people would have described. They would throw things at him and call him hurtful names. He soon didn’t trust women, but men were no better. The man he had developed feelings for had made him feel a little better towards men, but it was soon crushed when he had rejected him so harshly. Even then, he was more attracted to males than females.
Looking up at the young blond woman, he tried to find something to hide behind, but there were no rocks here like there were in the ocean. He kept underwater though, that would have been his safest bet since surface dwellers don’t breathe underwater like he did. His eyes were glued to the woman that had startled him before looking to Jessie, he didn’t know if it was safe or not to resurface.

Evelyn Evelyn’s face fell at the rebuff by the merboy. Maybe she was being a bit hasty asking to see his tail, but dammit, it was fascinating. Was it some form of transmutation that she had yet to learn. Oh, she knew she should have picked up that book on water breathing, but there was no time for regrets. She glanced at Jessie for a moment, then, after pushing her shawl off, she dove into the water. She couldn’t stay under for long, but she could try to prove that she meant no harm. She smiled at the merboy, then pointed at herself, then him and tried to mouth the word ‘friends’. Of course, this resulted in a sharp intake of water, because of which she emerged to the surface and coughed. She hoped it was enough, but she could always try again. He couldn’t leave the pool in his current state, and if it was transmutation, she’d get an up close view of it.

Jessie was not amused by these developments.
He spared a momentary death-glare for Rayne, before glancing back at Shinichi and rolling his eye.
"So I take it you-" he began, only to be cut off by Evelyn suddenly requesting to see the merman's tail. Shinichi, startled, shot beneath the surface of the pool. Glancing to the source of his fright in annoyance, he fired off another icy look as she turned momentarily to meet his eye. Then, she jumped in.
"" he scoffed, folding his arms. Some people really were too inconsiderate. However, when the girl resurfaced, he said nothing. It would be equally inconsiderate for him to chastise a total stranger, and a child at that.
