Evian did pause mid sip at what he said, downing what was left of it before paying the bartender for all of her drinks. "So you sympathize with them as well?" She murmured, more of a rhetorical question than anything. "I've known many, and all are good friends of mine." She smirked, tilting her head as she debating if she should tell him or not.

"I was surrounded by other kids. Didn't really have an older figure to describe what it was like before the boundaries. You were lucky to have known such a man." She removed her cloak, adjusting her weapons a bit. "So what would he say? You have my full curiosity." She brightened a little, ignoring memories she held.

Gitano opted to forgo the next drink and pulled out a coin of little value. He started to play it through his fingers as he recalled the old man's words. "He would always say that the sea was calmer, there was always boats on it, fishing or traveling. There was always music in the air, the sea gulls would always cover the beaches and the waves crashing gently." He laughed to himself at that statement. "I can tell you one thing, it is very hard to fall asleep without the ocean next to me."

"I'm a sympathizer. It also helps that I've been run out a few villages myself for a few of my performances. Many people closer inland don't trust anything that resembles magic," he said softly. "Even if they are simple slight of the hand tricks."

Resting her elbow upon the counter, she rested her chin in her palm, trying to picture what he was describing. Evian had never managed to travel to the sea though she had wanted to. She had seen the mountains, she had seen forests, but that was it. Other than that it was cities, cities, and more cities. "Sometimes when I'm traveling it gets hard to sleep without hearing the bustle of the city around me. Or at least the sounds of the forest around me. So I understand to some degree what it's like to not be able to fall asleep without some kind of noise." She murmured, sighing lightly before adding, "I've never had a chance to take some time to go see the ocean though. I've always wondered if it was as lovely as many say."

Blinking, she hadn't ever thought people would be that stupid, but apparently they were. "Seriously? It's not like you are changing into a wolf or something. I can't believe they would be that silly." She murmured, cursing as she had almost spilled her true identity by saying humans instead of they. And well.. probably wasn't the wisest thing to use the analogy of a wolf considering her ability. s**t... don't slip now. You already can't enter a couple of villages because they know you're a magii. The city doesn't count because it wasn't my fault that I kinda blew up that store...

"It's pretty easy, though I suspect you aren't quite ready to abandon your job like I am." Amaya sighed. "Unique. That's probably the nicest word that has been used to describe myself." She laughed. "Perhaps that will change. If I cannot change the world for others, I can at least change it for myself. There's always a chance for a fresh start." She said, just sort of saying it out loud to herself more than to Roran or anything.

Roran snorted. "Change the world for yourself? That's the same as changing it for everyone else. You alter your world, and you inevitably alter someone else's." Continuing to stare into the black, he turned, facing the village. Some of the homes had lights in them, some didn't. A few were blowing out the candles, calling it a night. He assumed it was around midnight. You can't be sure when the moon is always directly overhead. Letting out a soft sigh, he sort of slouched, his hand resting on the hilt of his sheathed blade. The silence of the village hurt his ears, the ringing never stopping as the blood rushed through his ears, a never ending river. "You never really know what silence feels like, you know? It sort of hurts the ears, but that's probably more a panic, like when you can't see and your eyes hurt." Turning to look at her now, he just realized she was on a boulder. "Doesn't that hurt to sit on for so long?"

"I guess. Still, baby steps for now. I've got to test the water." Amaya told him. She raised an eyebrow at his first question. While she had never thought of it before, it did seem to happen. Still, the woman enjoyed the silence at times. It gave her a chance to think and collect herself. Smiling to his last question, she patted the boulder, shrugging lightly. "Not really. I could sleep on it if I wanted to. I'm just one of those people that's comfortable pretty much anywhere." She said, laying back on the boulder now.

Roran watched her sit back, averting his eyes after a moment. " I wish I could do that. I find it hard to sleep on hard objects. If it's soft, I'm good. A bed, the dirt, grass, anything. Just so long as it's soft." Closing his eyes, he read for heat signals again, seeing nothing unusual. Opening his eyes to look at the sky once more, he softly smiles. "Looking at the sky never gets boring. I'm not sure what it is, but I could look at the stars for the rest of my life, and all would be fine." Looking over at her again, he smirked. "You ever get that feeling with anything?"

Amaya giggled lightly. Some people did have trouble sleeping on rough terrain. She couldn't blame them, it took some getting used to for the first few days. "I have." She answered to his question as she looked over at him. "But it was taken from me." She murmured as she looked back up at the sky.

"It is..." Gitano said wistfully. No matter how far he's traveled, the view of the ocean always took his breath away. And told him he was home. He reached into his pack and pulled out a conch shell and handed over to Evian. "Put this to your ear," he said. "The ocean lives inside that shell."

Gitano noted a small hesitation in her next statement, but didn't comment on it. "People are in fear. They do what they can to survive, even if it means not trusting anyone."

Evian watched as he reached into his pack, wondering what he'd take out when it suddenly became clear. And it was a pleasant distraction from her almost slip up. Taking the shell carefully, she hadn't seen one in person so she took time to examine it. Then she carefully put it to her ear, blinking as she thought she could hear waves crashing upon the shore, a bright smile starting to spread across her features. "Thats.... incredible!" She almost seemed as if she were a child, giggling before she handed it back to him. "Thank you." She said with a soft smile, though it faltered a bit as they returned to speaking about the times.

"Thats true... It still just seems, well, crazy." She murmured, the smile fading completely as she sighed, resisting the urge to get one last drink for the night since she knew it was probably best that she not. "And in the end the magii just end up angry and well.... beaten. So many have no backbone from what I've seen. Its a sad sight to see when one thinks of what they used to be."

"With how Humans treat them it's no surprise most of them have become broken..." Gitano took the shell back with a smile. "Your welcome. This shell is one of my prized possessions," he said as he placed it into the bag.

He looked at her, placing his arms on the counter and leaned on them. "You know my story. Would you mind telling yours?"
PostPosted: Wed Feb 24, 2010 7:30 pm

"Yeah... I just wish some of them would maintain that spark of theirs." Evian murmured, glancing down to the shell as he put it away. "I can understand why." She blinked at his question involving her now, sitting up a bit as she placed her other arm on the counter as well, folding her hands together.

"I suppose I don't mind. My story... Well, lets see. I was born in one of the cities, I'm not entirely sure which one though. I don't have any family, grew up in an orphanage. I was a rascal to be sure. I have one close friend who may as well be my brother. His name is Malachai... though I call him Mal." She started, a smirk spreading on her lips as she thought about some of the trouble they got into. "God we were such terrible kids... But we stayed alive. I took odd jobs like being a runner or messanger for someone, he'd do more labor oriented type work. I ended up becoming a mercenary and he's a bounty hunter."

She unfolded her fingers, looking at them as they laid on the counter. "Sometimes we work together. But most of the time we work separately. Right now I just finished a job with him so I'm in-between work. And well, drinking while figuring out what to do at this point." She gave him a small smile, brushing her bangs out of her eyes. She had omitted a lot, but it was always so she wouldn't give away who she was. She usually did have a back-up responses to certain other questions that people always asked. It was necessary. "I know, vague, but thats basically my life in a nutshell. Not very glamorous." She gave a small chuckle, scratching the back of her head as a nervous habit.

Roran went silent at her response, feeling bad now. He hated that, bringing up someone's hurtful memories just by trying to make convorsation. Silence is better than making it worse. He opted to keeping his mouth shut.

Peering into the dark abyss in front of him, it seemed to engulf everything. A never ending shadow, stretching farther than the land itself. It was times like these that Roran wished h could hold out his hand and create a flame above his palm, lighting up the area, and hopefully lifting some spirits. But he knew he couldn't do that.

"Still. Things happen. If you dwell on the past, you're never going to experience anything good in life." Amaya said in a more cheerful tone as she pushed the memories from her thoughts. That's all that they were. Memories, and she couldn't change that part of her past, only prepare for the future ahead.

Roran smirked. That was absolutely right. No dwelling on the past. You've got to do something about it instead, change the future. One day he would. He would change the future for sure. Looking over at Amaya, he softly huffed a cough. The wind had picked up, and it was getting a bit cold. Late and cold. "You don't have to stay here," he spoke softly, "you're not the one getting paid to keep watch all night."
