Masaki practiced alongside Luo when he did the basic punches and kicks. It took a minute or two to get them right again, but for the most part he was able to keep up. Eventually however, Luo started mixing things up. punch kick punch, kick punch punch... He quickly fell behind, he tried the right hook, sweeping kick combo and found that his kick was incredibly weak. He couldn't go straight into another punch without losing his balance and had to return to his ready stance and then punch again. This shouldn't be so difficult I just did this! Masaki spent a couple minutes trying to get the first half of the first combo correct, but it was weak and much slower than Luo's many combos. Eventually Masaki realized he couldn't continue the attacks correctly without reverting to his original stance. It was just messy and weak to try otherwise. He needed to do so quickly however, to keep some momentum and speed in his attacks. His fist arced through the water towards an invisible target, quickly returned, then his lef rose and found itself hitting the invisible enemy with a kick. It was, however, not quite strong enough. Masaki took a moment to catch his breath. He wasn't breathing? You had to breath in a fight, otherwise you wouldnt stand a chance! He must have been focusing so much on combining the motions that he forgot to breathe. He punched, let out a breath, and then tried a kick. Finally he could tell that his attacks were flowing well, and with proper strength. He quickly followed up with another punch, trying his best not to lose his building momentum, then went into an axe kick, followed by a sweeping kick. That took a bit of effort to keep his momentum, the attacks didn't flow to well together quite as well as the earlier combinations did. He then continued to experiment with different combos, realizing that was all Luo was doing. Eventually, Masaki could string several kicks and punches in the same "movement" without losing strength, though he found himself slowly moving away fro Luo and had to keep swimming closer again. He didn't fear whatever might be in the water, but if he got lost he would lose out on the rest of his training. After a while, Masaki realized his movements weren't as accurate when he combo'd them. So he began picking up rocks, throwing them in front of him, and then hitting the rock with all of the combo hits. After a bit of practice, he could hit the rock multiple times in a row, though he did occasionally send one flying towards Luo... oops.

As Luo continued his own practice, he saw Masaki at last beginning to understand how things were supposed to go. However, as he began to practice with stones Luo found it more and more difficult to concentrate on his own training methods. A few sailed towards him and he had to incorporate dodging into his attacks which wasn't difficult so much as annoying. One stone actually found its mark on Luo's right shoulder and he'd decided that was enough of that.

Hopping up and backwards out of the water, the man his clone went to get knelt on one knee with his head bowed and spoke a familiar greeting Luo heard all too often. Rising to his feet, he brought out of one of his pockets a small picture and quick info on Masaki Luo's clone had given him as he shook his head and asked if Luo was sure. "I'm positive," Luo muttered with a bit of a sigh. "You'll find you both share a bit of the same character."

Masaki looked around for his sensei and realized the man had vanished while Masaki was busy training. He quickly kicked off ground and swam back to the purpose, sticking his head out to see Luo talking with some stranger. Did he wander all this way by accident or was he a friend? Masaki dragged himself out of the water, and pulled the water from his clothes using water manipulation. He then turned to Luo and the man with a curious look on his face. Luo didn't seem to like it when Masaki spoke when not spoken to, so the boy remained silent for now.

Being a bit disgruntled at what the Mizukage had said, the boy emerged and looked utterly perplexed. "Yo, My name is Sarutobi Mokkuzai. You and I share the same bloodline, and I'm here to teach you how to use it. It's not weak or anything, so you need to freaking pay attention. If you don't, you'll find what I'm doing and the signs I'm making impossible to comprehend. It's not easy combining two different elements to create one, much less something that is essentially an extension of the self in terms of energy. Mokuton takes dedication and knowledge, and if you're too stupid to put two and two together, you'll never understand yourself."

Sarutobi was annoyed that he even had to do this, but in all honesty the Mokuton bloodline was more complicated than usual. Your chakra was essentially converted into a natural life source, and you were given the ability to create it anywhere. It took someone who was apart of the bloodline to understand it the way it was meant to be understood without being vague. Luo was clearly unsure of just how this would continue as he dismissed his clone.

Masaki smiled. "Nice to meetcha, my name is Masaki Valentinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gumbigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andry Charton-Haymoss Ivanovicci Baldeus George Doitzel Kaiser Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky Mcsteinenburgensteinsonovichodavinski the fourth." He paused to take a breath (Why had he created such a long name?) before finishing. "Nice to meet you." He gave a deep bow as Luo would have liked, then a smile split his face in two. Finally I get to learn to use Mokuton! He glanced at his new sensei and listened as he said his piece. I wonder what Luo's going to do if this guys the one training me... His face screwed up for a moment as he pulled a fish out of his pocket and threw it back in the water. How did that get in there? He wondered briefly. Hopefully he wasn't making too bad an impression, it would really stink to lose this chance for training.

As the boy rattled off his name, Sarutubi's left eye began to twitch by the fifth name given. It was clearly something the boy had not given enough thought to, and it was almost a mockery of any name every given to anyone. He knew Masaki grew up without parents for the most part, but it didn't earn him the right to be down right dumb sometimes. Removing his mask and placing it on his holster, he forced a seal that caused roots to rise and bind the boy's feet and arms into place. His expression of annoyance grew further and as Luo seemed to jump back and disappear for meditation, it was clear he was given full creative control on how to train the boy. So his face grew closer to Masaki's, almost looking as threatening as possible.

"That's not your name, that's some crap you made up. Your name is Masaki for now, and when you finish learning about your bloodline the forest will give you a new last name." He seemed to wave off the roots as they receded and he walked off a few feet scratching his he ad. The way he learned to even call on the Mokuton bloodline was unnerving, and he guessed the way Luo found it in Masaki was about the same. Turning and forcing one seal, vines began to shoot out in an attempt to grab Masaki, some threatening to stab right through. This was evident by how some were sure to scratch Masaki, and most were thorny.

What Sarutobi gathered was that Masaki had undergone some intensive training with Luo, some of which could be considered a weeks work of strength training done in hours. He would have the capability to doge a few, but they would overwhelm him and cause his bloodline to kick in to protect him. He wanted the boy to zero in on how his chakra felt when exerted in that manner. If he didn't know the feeling, it could never be produced.

((What an inconvenient time for Finals... ruining the tournament for me like this. It will be tough to catch up in time, I hope we can manage it.
Go throw yourself at a tree LT))
Masaki saw the vines burst from the ground and slashed himself free before dodging a possible fatal attack from another vine. The man clearly didn't like his name as Masaki hadn't even finished his introduction before the attack came. It was admittedly a little tiring to say, but who was this guy to tell him who he was? Masaki had some mixed feelings about the man's methods. It was polite to at least finish greeting each other before trying to kill him. Masaki's face flushed red with embarrassment as he drew a kunai and slashed at the vines that approached him. He was surrounded, and he knew it. He had been let his guard down and was now in trouble. He began slashing his way through the assaulting foliage. He had almost escaped the scope of the jutsu when the vines all attacked from all angles. He couldn't possibly dodge or slash them all, or even enough to escape with any less holes than would mean his demise. The jutsu was too powerful for any of the defensive jutsu Masaki had learned, nothing would be powerful enough to block them all.
He had been in such a life and death situation already, and had already realized what it meant. Will I be an Angel or a Devil in my future? Time will take another step and find out. He felt the adrenaline flood through him, but he noticed something else as well. His face spread into a broad toothy grin, he had met that something before too. That unusual mix, that gave him a new feeling of life. Fight of flight? there was no contest. It was time to fight back, his body knew it even before he did. A roaring shout escaped his mouth as several bamboo spears jumped from the ground, sticking the various vines in midair and building a teepee-like structure around the boy. He had stretched his arms out over his head, and was staring one of the vines head on. It had stopped less than a centimeter from his face

He looked around. "What was that? How did I do that?" It was obvious he had used his mokuton trait. However this wasn't anything like the wings the tree had used to shield him before. More distressing to the boy however was the fact that he had no idea how he had actually done it. This power would make him so much stronger if he could use it on command.

((BTW Luo, are you completely making these jutsu up on the spot? I don't remember anything with vines in the mokuton jutsu (yet razz ))

As Sarutobi watched the boy react, he became ecstatic, almost too happy as he exclaimed, "There it is! That thing! You know what I mean right? That feeling you felt right when you felt like you were dead. It was like your essence and adrenaline turned into something else entirely: Chakra. This is the secret of Mokuton. Mokuton is apart of you, it is every fiber of your being. By learning how to move your chakra with Mizukage-sama through meditation, you've in a sense already learned how to control it. Focus on that feeling you just had. You've felt it before, and no doubt you can feel it again. Try what you just did again, just one bamboo stalk."

MAsaki listened and then nodded. "just one stalk..." He climbed through the various spears of bamboo and intertwined vines so that he was back in view of his new sensei. He looked at where he had just come from and thought that it looked vaguely like something one might find in a decorative garden. He then brought his attention back home and focused his chakra, searching desperately for what he had used before.Of course he didn't find it, he needed to learn to combine his doton and suiton chakra to create the effect, but at least he knew what that felt like. He stood there with a wide stance concentrating hard to combine the two chakra natures. After what seemed like several minutes, he had achieved something similar to the earlier chakra he had used.
It was a difficult process, and Masaki didn't want to waste it quite yet. He spent a longer time just letting the Mokuton chakra flow throughout his body so he could get a better feel for it. He knew that if he didn't get used to it he would have one hell of a time recreating it. Finally he decided to attempt the task laid out to him, he needed to create a bamboo spear. He channeled his chakra through his body and into the ground in front of him, hoping to create the proper mix, but his attempts were quickly interrupted by a loud fart. He waved it away, noticing a mild piney scent rather than the usual stink. Had he concentrated too hard?
Once again he formed the chakra, this time having an easier time of it now that he had a better idea what it felt like. Within moments he went through the process once more, and a small bamboo sprout broke through the ground in front of him. It slowly grew until it stood about 4 feet high and had developed a sharp end. Masaki let out a deep breath. This Mokuton stuff was hard, were he another person he might have even given up.

As Sarutobi watched the boy try the first time, he grimaced at the sound of the loud expulsion of air. But then somehow, the boy did it. With a smile and a thumbs up, he nodded satisfied. "See, there you go! Good to know you aren't as dumb as I thought. Alright, I guess now it comes down to teaching you some jutsu. The hand seals are in weird sequences, but I think you'll get it. First things first, the wood clone. These bunshin a different in one specific way: They're linked to you so you always know where they are. Not only that, but you can communicate with it telepathically. Also, when struck by taijutsu half of the damage put forth is sent back to whoever struck it. It's a powerful move and can really be a tide turner." Forming the seals slowly so Masaki could copy them, he created one. Wood spiraled up and out of the ground and continued to spiral and form together until it created what looked like a perfect wood clone which slowly began to 'grow' skin. When it finished they both stated, "You try."

(( I was just thinking how unusual it is we haven't seen a bunch of "hippy" mokuton users. lol could you try and find that PM I sent you with the Mokuton info?))
Masaki had learned a couple bunshin already, but from the man's description it seemed like this would be the most useful yet. It was probably even more useful than the doton bunshin. Masaki concentrated on his Mokuton chakra, it took a bit of effort to create the proper blend, and the boy felt he would probably need to practice before he could do so quickly. It took several moments for him to create a reasonable reserve to work with.
[post 1/4]

After he had re-recreated the chakra to work with he found it a little easier to manipulate. He let it flow through him a bit while he performed the seals for the jutsu, and reproduced the process for creating any other bunshin using the Moku-chakra. What caught the boy by surprise however, was that rather than sprouting from the ground the wood that formed the jutsu branched directly from the young boy. The feeling was so bizarre and unexpected that the boy jumped, breaking the jutsu. A small block of wood fell from his shoulder as Masaki stared at the wood and rubbed his shoulder to make sure it was still flesh and bone. "I...was not expecting that..." he exclaimed. Rather than focusing his chakra through the ground like he would for the doton bunshin he just tried to directly form it next to him. Mokuton seemed to be an incredibly bizarre chakra type in every way. Not only was he creating living material, he was combining doton and suiton in a seemingly unnatural way, and now there was this.
[post 2/4]

After recollecting his senses he stood up to go at it again, this time knowing what to expect. He went through the process once more spending most of his time on the chakra mix. After performing the seals, the wood branched from him once more, and landed on the ground beside him, slowly but surely it developed features that became more and more like the young boy's. Eventually, it took the shape of a perfect Masaki puppet, before "growing" a matching set of skin and clothes.
[3/4]

Masaki stared at the clone. "So we can talk with our heads?" He asked aloud, and the clone replied Yes, we can. "Prove it" Masaki demanded. Just concentrate on me and think "at" me. You can find out where I am and even communicate with me. It was at this point Masaki realized the clone hadn't said a single word. He concentrated on the jutsu, and realized he could feel the bunshin standing in front of him. Hi he thought at it. It was weird, as if talking to an inanimate object or himself. Masaki touched the bunshin's shoulder. It was almost human, but he could feel the wood underneath. Punching it would hurt. He then turned back to his sensei, it seemed the man was capable of teaching something useful.

Looking over his shoulder, the man could tell that Luo was somewhere nearby, he just couldn't tell where in the area. But alas he yelled out to him, "Hey, I think the boy gets it now." Looking back Sarutobi shrugged a bit as he spoke again. "I forgot you hadn't exactly trained enough to be able to create the clone beside you instead of from you like that but you'll get used to it. One more thing I forgot to tell you is if you touch the clone, you'll be able to gather any information it knows. Just don't let it die before you do that though." Dispelling his own clone, it burst into splinters of wood which littered the area.

Rolling his neck, he outstretched his arm and put forth his index finger, raising his middle one next after saying, "Number one down, number two up next. Alright small stuff, next is the wooden pillar jutsu. Mokuton is as defensive as it can be offensive and this jutsu is an example of that. By creating pillars of wood or using already existing wood one foot wide and five feet tall, you can command it to either attack, or defend for you. It can hit with the same force of a taijutsu specialist of your rank, and can defend from two genin rank ninjutsu. Be careful though cause it like all wood is very susceptible to katon of any sort."

Forming the hand seal for the jutsu, one pilar shot out in front of him, and the other launched towards Masaki who would hopefully block or dodge the attack. He wondered just where Luo had scooted off to though, and why exactly. Perhaps he needed to get a message back to Kiri he thought as he shrugged a bit waiting for the boy to react and learn.

Mokuton: wooden pillar
The user can call upon up to two logs of wood from the ground or some other wood, and use it to hit a target, block an attack or other purposes. Pillar can reach a maximum of 5 feet in length and 1 foot wide, appearing almost instantaneously. Hits with the same force as a Genin rank taijutsu specialist's punch. Takes 2 genin level jutsu to destroy. one Katon jutsu of any rank can light it on fire, or incinerate it.

((probably wont get much more in if any. Maybe we can recycle the NPC later to continue training another time. I can't do much more than this as late as it is. I'll have to fix the jutsu tomorrow...thanks for sending the jutsu should I update the "ninjutsu edits" crew thread too?))

Masaki watched the first log burst from the ground and then when the second burst out he simply put his arms out and let the log push him off the ground a couple inches. He couldn't have dodged it at that speed, so he found a way to avoid damage. He then reformed the seals he was shown a couple times, and started channeling his chakra. It took a lot less time to form it than before, he was finally starting to get the process down. He paused for a moment, he didn't like doing things as expected. It helped keep him creative to think of creative ways of practicing the jutsu. Eventually he had it. He might even land a successful blow if he were lucky, that would certainly be something worth bragging about considering the other ninja's rank. Not that he was the bragging type...
[post 1]

It seemed to the boy that this was the same thing as the bamboo jutsu except with a log of wood, and probably should have come before the bunshin jutsu, but it would certainly be easier this way. Masaki Concentrated his chakra, this time channeling it through the ground, and then let the practice run go through. In a moment a sprout broke through the ground, and it slowly grew into a log about 2 feet tall. He needed to do things differently, the mokuton chakra wasn't able to build up enough to have a log burst from the ground. However, he had another plan.
[post 2]

Once more he performed the seals, and took a moment concentrating his chakra. Then he channeled it into the ground and then up the log that Mokkuwhatsit had created. Rather than letting it trickle into the jutsu however, he made it collect there until a small pool of chakra was waiting to burst forth. After he had collected a sufficient amount of chakra he then finished the jutsu. Suddenly a log burst from the log that the man had made, attacking him with a sudden thrust, branching off from the original log at a 90 degree angle. It grew up to 5 feet long and 1 foot wide, and with luck would knock the man right in the ribs. Admittedly it was a little prankish, but Masaki really wanted to see if he could land a hit on the man.
[post 3]

The whole process up until the jutsu was really slow. Masaki decided he needed to learn not only to perform the specific jutsu quickly, but to form his chakra faster. So he decided he would do the jutsu one more time. He formed his chakra as quickly as he could, then let it all rush to it's destination in one large clump. A few seconds after he completed the seals for the jutsu, two logs burst from the ground, on under each foot. Admittedly it wasn't a long distance, but it had indeed been performed much quicker. Masaki could be sure, as he launched through the air, that he could perform the jutsu again in a tight spot. He landed on a thick tree branch a small distance behind where he was originally standing, and then looked at his sensei. Perhaps something in him was changing, but the boy couldn't help but hope to see some sense of approval. It was incredibly bizarre to the boy to want the other man to care at all about him. Somehow, the man felt eerily like what people had describe fathers to be.
