Nel chuckled. She could already tell that the creature setting atop her head was confused at her lack of a last name. Her parents didn't give her their last name. They always said that she had to earn it. The last name Bennet was a proud last name. She was the last of her family, but she still intended to earn the last name even if she didn't do it by becoming a hunter.

The name the faerie spoke was pretty. It sort of rolled off the tongue.
"Very pretty."

Rahne looked around, the walls were in one piece, the door closed tightly, the only thing that would cause an issue was the broken window on the far side of the shack. A low grunt sounded in Rahne's chest as he noticed it, the gears in his mind turning to find a way to block the sun's light. Pushing to his feet he wondered the old worn safe house, looking for something he could use.
He disappeared into the next room, which turned out to be a small kitchen. This shack, which was proving to be more of a small cabin, was once someones home, but that seemed to be long ago. Rahne reappeared with a thick tarp in his hands and grinned at Hiou, proud of his successful discovery as he positioned the tarp over the window, keeping it in place with old nails he had found laying on the ground. "Now it is." Rahne said at last, wiping his hands off on his pants. His thoughts wondered, wondering what this new companionship could possibly mean for him.

Hiou watched Rahne's actions with fascination, amazed that he had notice what she was talking about, and even more that he would do something about it. Almost as if she might matter to him...But she wouldn't disillusion herself into thinking something so ludicrous.
Hiou nodded her head in thanks, still surprised that he would care enough to cover the window so no sunlight could enter. "How long shall we remain here?" she asked him, her body sensing that they still had some time until sunrise. Though it appeared this was their safe-house for this night, at least. His answer would also give her an insight as to how long he intended to stay with her.
Glancing down, she noticed how raggedy her appearance was compared to his. Shamefaced, she brushed her hand along the dirty dress, which was really nothing more than old rags sewn together.

Rahne mindlessly bit the inside of his lip at her question, wondering if it was really safe here, being so close to werewolf territory.
"As long as you'd like." He decided aloud, knowing he could handle anything that decided to poke it's nose where it didn't belong, besides, wasn't a little action what he was hoping for? Rahne paced along the bed, stretching his arms over his head as the beast inside of him itched for something to do. Normally, he could control his more basic urges and was only subject to slight hyperactivity, like a dog that's been cooped up in the house for long, playing and running in circles just for something to do.
"Are you hungry?" He asked after stretching once more, "The night is still young and there's a human village not too far off in that direction." He went on, nodding in the direction he meant, his eyes never leaving her face. He had met vampires before but all were cocky vain creatures that he had no patience for. Hiou, being so different, sparked his curiosity and he wondered what it was that drove her to come here.

Hiou looked up at him and then away as he asked if she was hungry. In all honesty, she was starving, her body weak with hunger. But she had never hunted for food before, let alone killed for it. She wouldn't have the first idea of what to do. "No..." she lied, her gaze moving to anything but him. She didn't know why, but she felt as though he could see right through her.
Leaving the bed, she slowly walked to a corner of the room, praying her legs wouldn't give out on her for the short distance. "You may sleep in the bed when you tire. If you would prefer, I can move to a different room entirely to rest." She rested her hand against the hard wood of the little home, its texture rough on her sensitive palms.

A frown tugged at the corner of Rahne's lips, he knew Hiou had to be hungry and wondered why she would lie to him, but didn't dwell on it. He figured there had to be some reason the creature was so reserved, but it didn't change the fact that the last time Rahne ate was two days ago. He had been away from his pack for some time now, staying in the territory, but not traveling with everyone else.
"Well, I'm starving." He told, his stomach grumbling as if to verify the statement. "You can stay here, or join me," Rahne flashed a toothy grin, revealing his now sharpened canines. It had been some time before he had eaten anything substantial and would settle for human food if Hiou decided to tag along so she could hunt in the city for a bite or two. He preferred hunting the wild life in the area, it was more fun, even if Rahne didn't like to admit it. Not even he could overcome all of his bestial urges, there was nothing like a good hunt to get your blood pumping.
Rahne's eyes fell on Hiou, the wonder and confusion hidden behind his nonchalant facade. He wore his mask well, having decades of practice, no creature had ever broken through it. His pack and everyone else he met saw him as a ruthless fighter, though slightly unorthodox for a werewolf, but no one questioned him or his power. He had proven himself on multiple occasions and that's all most creatures needed.

Kiara smiled. No one had ever told her that her name was pretty. It was... Nice. "Thank you," she said. She lifted off Nel's head, then hovered before the human girl. "Well, you must be getting tired. I can leave you to your sleep, if you wish." She buzzed there for a few seconds, then smiled. "If you need me, just holler, 'kay?" With that, she buzzed upwards inside the hollow trunk of the greak oak, then to the right, into a hollow branch. She often went here for shelter in storms, and in the rare moments when she grew tired and hibernated.

At Kiara's words she merely rolled her eyes. She wouldn't have minded if the faerie had stuck around in this section. All she could do was watch as the girl flew up the tree and into another hollowed section. She sighed and dug around in one of her pockets. It was a little hard seeing as how her jeans had grown tighter in her new position.

Carefully, she pulled out a few things. One was a crumpled up, slightly burned picture of her parents. She smiled at her mother, a young woman no older than thirty-seven with vibrant magenta hair, pale ivory skin, and serene green eyes, and her father, a man around the age of thirty-nine with sun-kissed skin, pitchblack hair, and vibrant blue eyes. She missed them both dearly, but she was not to dwell on the past.

The second item was something of her fathers. It was a sleek dagger that had seen and done many things. She and her father had both named it Dev. Which, was short for Devotion. She quickly put it, along with the photo, back into her pocket. This left the third and final item out in the open for her to look at.

The last item used to belong to her mother. It was a choker of sorts. The silk ribbon was a beautiful silver color. On the ribbon was an onyz crescent moon with the points upward. She smiled and put it on. She ran her fingers over the crescent that now took its place adorning her neck. She looked up at the dark cloudy night sky and smiled at the moon. She rested her back against the wall of the tree behind her. She squirmed around to get comfortable.

Then, she fell asleep. Her arms hugged herself. Her nails dug into her shirt as she slept. Her nails clawing and scratching her bare arms every so often. This happened very often, but she did not know why. As a result many scars adorn both of her arms.

Hiou couldn't help but be curious. "I will go with you," she blurted without thinking. She wanted to see for herself what hunting was like.
Her hunger was making her senses hyper-aware of her surroundings. Everything seemed more focused, sharper. She could see the rough grain of the wood; hear the soft wind as it picked up, signaling a coming storm. And when her eyes landed on Rahne, she could swear she saw his body pulse as the blood flowed through him. Her senses instantly tuned into him. She could see nothing but him, hear nothing but his blood as it rushed through his veins.
Hiou's gaze trailed slowly down his neck, the arteries bright against his skin. Fresh with the blood of life. She subconsciously licked her lips, where she could feel her sharp fangs pressing against them, just begging her to take his blood.
But as she took a step toward him, the floorboards creaked, lifting the haze that her hunger and his blood had put over her. A look of shame etched itself onto her face, a supreme guilt burning in her chest at what she had almost attempted. A deep sadness shown out of her eyes as she looked at him, sending a silent apology for her thoughts. "Perhaps it would be better if you went alone," she said quietly. She had no idea of how her body would react if the smell of blood hit her, and she didn't want to hurt the only person who had ever been kind to her.

Rahne watched Hiou as she licked her lips, watching him. "You're hungry." He said, his voice flat and matter of fact. He furrowed his eyebrows, watching her closely before speaking again. "And you don't know how to hunt, do you?" Rahne folded his arms over his chest, angry with himself for not realizing it sooner, it seemed as if this young blood had never had to fend for herself before. Rolling these thoughts over in his head, he waited for her to respond.

Hiou's first instant was to lie. If he found out she had never hunted, it would give him a great advantage if he chose to hurt her, and she would be powerless to stop him. But why lie? Either way, if he chose to kill her, he would succeed. Because she wouldn't fight him. "You are correct," she said. "I have never hunted for myself. I have never taken a life."
Hiou closed her eyes as she waited for him to deliver the blow that would end her life. Now that he knew she was completely useless, he had no reason to stay by her any longer.

Rahne sighed at this unexpected development. This would make things increasingly harder. Did he have the time or knowledge to teach Hiou how to hunt tonight? "Well what do you like to eat?" He asked, wondering if she was opposed to letting him hunt an animal like he intended and just eating with him or if he'd have to take her into one of the human towns so she could find someone to snack on. Rahne kept his arms folded over his chest, lost in his thoughts as he waited for her response, oblivious to the fact that seemed terrified of him after learning this bit of information.

Hiou opened her eyes slowly, not believing that she was still alive. Rahne seemed to surprise her at every turn. She had no idea what to expect when with him. Her family would have killed her for leaking that information out, but he didn't seem to mind.
"I have only ever been fed old human blood or the blood of a dead animal." Her face was pinched in anger and disgust. Dead blood was only ever given to a Blood whom others deemed worthless and unworthy of drinking fresh blood. It was truly disgusting, but it was what she had known over the last seventeen years of her life.
Though she could never bring herself to kill any creature for it, she longed to taste fresh blood, to feel it pour into her mouth and melt on her tongue, like the sweetest chocolate. But she knew that she would never be able to taste it. The thought of killing anything was too repulsive. So she constantly fought down the desire to take the life of anything.

Rahne relaxed slightly when she said she was given animal blood. Perfect. "Come with me." Rahne said with a smirk as he turned towards the door. "We're going hunting." Rahne's frame trembled with excitement at the thought of hunting. He pulled the door open and waited for Hiou to join him in the cool night, the promises of a meal carried by the wind as it brushed past him and explored the cabin.

Hiou followed after him, her already cool skin turning frigid as the night air hit it. She walked over the hard ground, small twigs and crunchy leaves crackling under her bare feet as they walked deeper into the dark forest. Even with a coming storm, there was something very peaceful about this place, something she had never before experienced. The wind carried with it an earthy smell, while the thick clouds in the sky promised rain that would dampen all other smells, bringing with it a freshness that she almost craved. It was as if the rain could wash away her past and cleanse all her hurt.
