K SO I've read two books.

I completely gave up on the New Zealand one. It was too fact-y and while non-fiction can be fun two non-fiction books in a row just bores me.

I finished King Leopold. I really liked it, especially as a book I had to read for school. It was really fascinating, plus I learned s**t about history which is always a good thing smile

THEN! I went down the list of books on my to read until I found a book that is available in my school library, and the first one was The Poisonwood Bible. DEFINITELY my favorite book of the year so far biggrin AND LOL! it was about the Congo just like King Leopold XDD It was actually really good I read Poisonwood right after Leopold because there were a bunch of questions on my History exam that I dont remember learning in Leopold, or class, but I did learn about in Poisonwood.

Poisonwood is about this family, the Price's who move to Africa so the dad can be a missionary in the Congo. The story is told through the 4 daughters. There is tragedy and love and all that fun dramatic stuff smile Its a really long book though so if you're not into that dont get it XD Its like 500+ pages.

I read a bunch more books! biggrin

The Duke of Deception, by Geoffrey Wolff. I didnt love this book. It was ok, but it was kind of annoying. Its a memoir. I dont even remember what happens, his parents get divorced and he lives with his dad who steals and never pay bills and stuff and lies all the time and then he ends up just like his dad. Its not that fun, dont bother reading it smile

The Runaways, by VC Andrews. LOL I read this book a million times in high school. I LOOOOVED VC Andrews back then, and read all her books over and over. And then I found this over spring break and wanted to read it again SO I DID. Its fun a bunch of orphans run away from their foster home to go across country bc their foster parents suck and they get into all kinds of lame trouble. No one got raped though and there was zero incest which was a let down :/ Usually both things are a big part of Andrews' books. Of course I picked one of the like 3 that didnt have either D<

Those Who Save Us, by Jenna Blum. I really loved this book smile It was really, really good. It was the story of a mother and daughter, it switched back and forth from the time of WWII and the '90s, and from mother to daughter perspective. The mom was a German who got knocked up by a Jew she was hiding in her attic, her dad found the guy and gave him to the police to be sent to camp and the girl ran away and then she became the mistress of a really high-ranking Nazi so that her and her daughter could live and it was all kinds of ******** up. And then her daughter is all ******** up because she was 4 when the war ended and she and her mom left Germany with an American soldier, and so she remembers what happens in Germany but not really so now she's all messed up. Its really fun to read smile

Plain Truth, by Jodi Picoult. Picoult is one of my favorite authors, I loooove all her books smile In Plain Truth a dead newborn is found on an Amish farm and the mother, an unwed teenager, refuses to admit she even gave birth to the baby, so this lawyer takes on the case to prove that the Amish girl didnt murder her baby and due to the bail conditions the lawyer has to live in the house with the girl and her family.

The Thorn Birds, by Collen McCullough. I LOVED THIS BOOK biggrin SO MUCH. Its super long and epic-ish. Its 3 generations of this family in outback Australia between 1915 - 1960s. Its really awesome. You should read it.

The cable was down all weekend so I read 3 books smile All Jodi Picoult because I found them in the library and they are all fun. All three were entertaining but reading them back to back was kind of annoying sometimes because Picoult uses the same desriptions in all her books, which I never really noticed before. Also I hate how the prosecutors and defenders NEVER get along in her book bc that not true irl :/ At least were I live.

Nineteen Minutes is about a school shooting, Handle with Care is about a kid with osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease) and her mom wants to sue her OBGYN, also her best friend, for wrongful birth, and Change of Heart is about this guy who is on death row for murdering a kid and her stepdad and now he wants to donate his heart to his victim's daughter/sister bc she's dying of heart complications.

Right now I'm reading a book about Lizzie Borden smile

Try reading Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman. I adore this book, even if it disturbed me at times.

Quite ironically, I was coming here to suggest that she read Neverwhere, another Gaiman novel.

Even more ironic is that Smoke and Mirrors is the book I'll be reading next. Checked out that, Neverwhere, and American Gods. I <3 Gaiman.

I also recommend Stiff by Mary Roach. Super interesting.

A third reason for this thread~ I could always use book suggestions!

Goodreads.com is one of my favorite sites, I always find suggestions on there smile

Backseat Saints by Joshilyn Jackson: I won this on GR, its so cute and I just loved the candidness

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, The Cay by Theodore Taylor; both short, easy, but good reads

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami, I loved the movie

The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, you can find it online for free

I hope this helps!

The Culderemon was a pretty good book, in my opinion.
