_______________________...Don't exist.

Perhaps he could make it to his seat without any further interruptions.

“Of course.” DKay stated simply in reply to the woman in the front, nodding his head in approval of her suggestion. If someone indeed did have a problem with his taking of the relics…

Well, their opinion did not really matter. He had a job to fulfill, first and foremost.

Head held high, DKay strode down an aisle between the seats before claiming a place in the front by his lonesome. Only then was he free to exhale a sigh he hoped was mostly inaudible. While he did not care much for the aloof presentation he was surely giving an impression of, he simply did not want people anywhere near his personal space at the moment.

As most people did, the Taurus made mental notes of all those that spoke. Kaiya for example, had cut her name short; a curious thing that would perhaps require further investigation. And then there was this Astrid character.

What the hell was she doing here?

Poker face maintained perfectly, his eyes neither widened nor narrowed as his lips were kept in a perfect line. What god had he angered to deserve all this?

Of course every person received their own thought, complete with sarcastic comment and minor consideration for competence. His analysis ended however with the last two females to introduce themselves, one of which particularly catching his attention…and it was not the girl and her mishap with a dragon, though he did feel a strange affinity towards the flying creature.

But rather, it was a flash of familiarity within the last arrival’s eyes. A quality he quite admired surfaced within those azure eyes, causing his breath to catch for just a second.

Then he turned around and folded now exposed arms across a lean chest, devoting all his attention to the one called Vesper, choosing to ignore and block any and all previous thoughts from his mind. Now, was the time to focus. And to his surprise, the little Scorpio proved to be much more capable than her appearance would suggest. She offered an air of stratagem and even leadership. Well, just another reason not o judge a book by its cover.

- - - - - -

His life sucked. Plain and simple.

He was stuck with a group that was comprised mostly of the female kind and not only that…but one of those women obviously had no desire to be near him.

Hence why he only had a fitted wife beater shirt on beneath his cloak.

And one of the other members of his team made—

Well. At least he had Brett. And though this Ely character disoriented him with her height at times, she seemed to be amiable enough.

At the conclusion of Vesper’s orders, DKay nodded his head, storing the information as he inhaled and exhaled. Mentally preparing himself for just a moment before glancing back at the motley crew, the Taurus squared back his shoulders before lifting a hand slightly as if to gain attention. “All right. Coggins, Monteblanc, Verdane, Willow-Stones. Let’s go.” His voice was commanding and authoritative, as if he was accustomed to assuming leadership. If he had not appeared intimidating or adapt in life-threatening situations, he more than likely did now. From his sheer height to the confident way he carried himself, this gothic man was not a liability on a team.

He would make sure of that.

Booted footsteps leading the way towards their designated entrance, the albino glanced around at their surroundings, careful for any Mirr guards that would not take kindly to their adventures. “Does everyone have a way of defending themselves should the need arise?” Mildly curious of their answers, DKay needed to know which members of his team would need extra protection on his part. He might not know these people, he might not even like some of them, but like hell he was not going to step up as a leader and make sure they all got out okay.

He was not sure what to expect, and any tactics general would call them fools for going in to the territory unaware. However, such uncertainty seemed to make the journey all the more fun.

(( OOC: Okay. Sorry for the kind of craptastic-ness of this post. Also, I don't know if anyone minds that DKay used all last names? I thought it might be safe to assume during the time-skip that he might have learned their last names? He prefers referring to people that way. Let me know if that's over-stepping bounds or something. ))

User ImageEirian paid only enough attention to the following introductions to tuck the names away into the back of her mind. Of course, she would probably need to know them later, if only she that she could remain polite but distant. To the young brunette, these people held no more importance to her than a set of tools did to a carpenter. They were to be used for her profit, nothing more. They were most certainly not to be friends, but traveling companions at best. Eirian had her own past to deal with; she didn't need to get too deeply involved with other people. Besides, in a group this large, Eirian knew that someone would want to keep the relics to themselves and kill everyone else.

Kaiya. The one trying not to be formal. Astrid. The one she'd already pegged as mostly disinterested. Riuichi. The other Pisces. Sakura. The one who'd been wearing the hood. Biq. The energetic blonde. Correction--the energetic, possibly womanizing blonde. She'd have to make sure to avoid that one at all costs, if only for her sanity. Alianna. The one who'd just arrived late. Ely. The tiny woman who was apparently a bit of a klutz.

And that was it, it seemed. Unless there were more individuals who planned on arriving extremely late.

Absently tapping the fingers of her left hand against her thigh, Eirian focused her gaze upon Vesper. Wait. DKay wanted to abscond with the relics afterward? How had her mind failed to register that earlier? Whatever the reason for that was, the young woman immediately directed a skeptical gaze upon the pale man. Hm. She wasn't fond of the arrangement, but still. It wasn't as if she would actually vocalize her disagreement. Besides, what would she say? That this man was being greedy? In all reality, they were all greedy for even considering the relics real.

However, that hardly seemed to matter much, considering Vesper had resumed her monologue, this time to divulge more information about the first of the relics they would be going after. At least the girl was at least attempting to prove herself as the initiator of this quest, even if Eirian wasn't entirely certain about the groups they'd been divided into. Then again, it probably didn't matter how they'd been split up. She likely would have harbored the same feeling regardless. So...Vesper, Ben, and Sedrick and Kinna. Well, it could've been worse, she supposed.

--------

So. One of the relics had potentially been right in front of her all along. Fantastic. Information and connections really were everything. And money. Having a decent supply of Ice helped significantly as well.

Eirian stared at the capitol building for a few moments before moving to follow Vesper as their group began to depart. She still doubted Vesper's capability to lead, and as for the others in the group, well...They didn't particularly seems like they'd be capable of taking the lead in the event of crisis either. Which left her. Eirian was not a leader. There was no arguing with her otherwise. If the need arose, however, she supposed that she could direct to some degree. The brunette was more inclined to linger in the background and observe--to collect information before acting. However, hopefully Vesper would handle herself well and there'd be no need for her to step in.

Now. To find a way inside. Well, less inside and more underneath. It was too bad that the original blueprints were too frail; Eirian probably could have gleaned decent information from the paper. She'd just have to make do with her ability to observe, it seemed.

Vesper's voice was like an old record, playing itself again and again, bouncing around from ear to ear.

Relics.

Mirrors.

Wishes.

It was all the old stories she'd heard as a small child, but never thought she'd ever become part of the legends... If there was a way to even truly do so. It had been a fantastical story to listen to as a child, and was something only of fantastical dreams now... But if it were real? If they could pull this off and each have a wish to be granted?

Well...what was there to lose now anyways?

---

Their little group was...strange to say the least.
And, of course, she got stuck with the tallest out of all fifteen, the beautiful woman, the guy whose pet she nearly squished, and the little stubborn woman. Generally, she didn't care much for men, though women could be just as awful... Even so; the tall guy seemed to be having a pretty bad day and the other guy, Brett; if he wound up being any sort of creepy? Ely didn't even want to imagine what kinds of scary things that guy could do with his hands, if he could make such intricate little trinkets. Shud-der.

Therefore, she opted to stick to ambling inconspicuously between the two women.

Ali...Astrid... Ali... Shorter name, shorter girl. Astrid... Hmm... Well. She's got guns and muscles, plus that really pretty bandana... Maaaaaybe...

Hands tucked behind her back, the verdant eyed woman scuffed her feet along idly, swinging them wide and just considering both of the women without staring.

Yeah. I can remember her name as 'Kick 'As'trid'.

Oh ho ho. She would never live her silly sense of humor down if any of the others could know her thoughts. Grinning almost impishly to herself, Ely simply marched forwards, smiling.

That is, until DKay opened his mouth; all at once, her humor vanished, smile fading away quickly as the tiny half elf shifted her attention to him like mouse to a cat. Or, what was that other expression people used more commonly? Something like...a doe with lights on their head or...

Well, whatever.

Defend herself?

...

Wide emerald eyes fell from one empty hand...to the other...to look back up at the self-elected team leader; maybe he didn't mean an actual weapon...? She could 'bend' the earth, so to speak, but as for, like, a wood-and-stone thing or a sword or Astrid's guns...? No, nothing like that.

But, eh, no need to alarm the whole team, right?
Pulling herself up to her full height -- just barely five feet, if even that -- Ely planted her hands on flare of her hips, nodding.

"Check!"

Fae was not pleased. It appeared these imbeciles were indeed going to look for the Relics, running risk of both life and limb. She snorted and pawed the ground tensely. She had to be in the testosterone-crazed male’s group as well, was that not just her luck! Well, in terms of self-defense, she was far from unarmed. After all, a centaur’s pride was their kicking power. But Fae would rather not bloody herself up outside of an operating room.

In any case, there was no way she wished to lead the group into the tunnel; after all, that would be like condoning it. Instead, she waited for the little boy playing pirate (Fae could care less if he was older than her; the man was as mature as a silly year-old foal) to take the point position. Instead, she analyzed her teammates. Riu, Sakura, Kaiya, and the insipid… Fae curtailed the thought; … and, Biq.

Fae was unsure of her opinion on the tall, pale man. He looked like a piece of glass prepared to break at the slightest tap. Then again, most humans seemed fragile to her, so perhaps she was only imagining it. This was doubtful. Fae didn’t have much imagination. His staff was a bit showy, but Fae supposed he would know how to use it. Then, of course, he had a blind eye. His depth perception could be skewed and… Fae shook herself slightly and glanced at the next party member.

The girl named Sakura seemed heartier, physically speaking. She had a distrustful air that reminded Fae forcefully of some of her more miserly patients, the ones who even as their bones were sticking out of their arm refused to let her treat them till they agreed on a ‘fair price’. Her appearance was fairly attractive by human standards, Fae surmised, and she had a feeling the pirate boy would try to make a pass at her. Still, Fae could be wrong; she no good at character judgment.

Kaiya was another oddity (but of course, the whole group seemed to be). She was abnormally short, but had an odd way of carrying herself. Fae wondered if she was rich: she had seen that sort of posture before in some of the wealtier tourists in Hartshire. Fae was less than pleased with the thought of having a rich snob in the party. Yet she hadn't seemed snobby... but Fae would keep an eye on her as well.

Then, of course, there was Biq. Fae had already decided he was the kind of man who she would never, ever be able to get along with. He was fit, yes, but he obviously was no stranger to liquor or the less than sanitary parts of Mirr. Hmph. What he needed was for someone to slap some sense into him! Honestly, what a buffoon! But no… she’d get no money thinking that way. Her family needed her… her mother needed her.

Content with the thought, Fae patted her gear kit, stood up straight, and made sure her shirt was buttoned up to the neck. Just in case.

Ali flinched at the sight of the girl – who quickly thereafter introduced herself as Ely – struggling mid-trip to stay upright. Her hands twitched and she felt the swooping sensation around her midriff catch in that familiar sensation as one watches something fall just out of reach, both too slowly and too quickly to be caught. The girl was perfectly fine though, and Ali looked on in wonder as she brought a tiny mechanical dragon to light.

Reassured by a comment from a violet-eyed girl that she was indeed with the right people, Ali dropped her pack at her feet and slid into one of the vacant blue chairs. She carefully took a better look around the room, hoping to unobtrusively acquaint herself with each of their faces. Introductions had clearly already been made, for the girl continued speaking as though in mid-discussion. Properly abashed with her very late and sudden entrance, Ali remained silent and listened attentively.

Though the girl did not seem accustomed to making speeches, she seemed quite competent and thorough, if a little prone to digression. Of course, her unfinished bits of story were more like details deemed unnecessary, so perhaps the disjointed nature of her narrative was merely due to a wish for brevity.

Something clicked inside her as another bolt of reality fell into place. There was a real plan with real people gathering momentum, and she was part of it!

As they walked, Ali ran through their names in her head, matching faces to identities. She set aside the brief flash of envy when she came to the boy named Ben. Such control over his shapeshifting powers, to hold a half-form like his! Her pathetic abilities after years of practice still fell far short of any possibility for regular use. She let go of the thought and returned to a vision of everyone gathered at the fountain. They would all meet back there – hopefully – later that night. She regretted having missed the formal introductions; she knew the least of everyone from among them, and felt that she had left a rather unfavourable first impression herself. Feeling a little behind in another aspect, Ali wondered what she had missed in terms of discussion of the relics. The first relic’s residence in Mirr had apparently been mentioned before her arrival. Did anyone know what it was supposed to look like? Did it have some defining characteristic or property that would allow them to recognize it for what it was if they saw it? Ali didn’t want to draw attention to her ignorance, but decided to somehow word her question to the group.

Gaze shifting from side to side, Ali looked over her companions. Heading north with her were two other girls and two guys. The girls seemed to be closest to her age, while both guys were likely a few years older. She fixed their impressions in her mind.

Astrid. Tall. Gemini. Cool blue eyes set in a dark frame, lower face covered by a cloth. There was a certain no-nonsense attitude in the way she carried herself that suggested she could take care of herself no problem.

Ely was short. Cancer. Pointed ears suggested some percentage of elf blood. She had said she was from Lerane, and Ali briefly wondered whether her own stay had coincided with a time when she was still there. She had also mentioned skill with potions, which would probably prove useful, though her apparent skill concerning coordination appeared less desirable. Of course, accidents occur and this Ely may have simply experienced similar poor luck with first impressions as hers.

Brett was quite the mechanician, with his inquisitive dragon and clockwork hands. Cancer. He’d clearly suffered from some sort of accident, as he was missing his left eye. He was taller than her, but not by much.

Then there was the albino, DKay. Taurus. More than a head taller than herself, he was easily the tallest of the group. A scar marked the left side of his face, connecting lips and forehead to a startling blue eye. The right side of his face was obscured by his beautiful white hair. Calling their surnames, he seemed to have taken command as they started north, and she had followed.

Returning to the phrasing of her question, Ali realized that a part of her had also assumed that the relic under the capitol was likely a mirror. What if it wasn’t? If it was, not assuming it might seem stupid, like missing the obvious.

Startling Ali from her reverie, DKay spoke again, questioning self-preservation abilities. Ely answered in the affirmative, while Ali thought for a moment.

Confrontation. Violence. What if it came to killing? How would she, Ali, react?

You are capable. An inner voice answered. You are sure of your strengths. Prepare. Go wary.

The voice was cold and logical, familiar. The warm thump of her heartbeat fluttered in her chest. She slowly let her emotions rise, as she evaluated the question. She needed to make these decisions as a person, as herself – not a machine. …And of course, she realized that she was getting ahead of herself. Considering all hypothetical situations at this very moment would take forever. The question posed aloud was simple. It was indeed most likely that she could defend herself sufficiently should the need arise.

“I think so. Yes.” She responded not too long after Ely.

Ali took another breath and attempted to put her musings into words.

"And, I was wondering if any of you might have a clear idea, er, no, maybe um..." She cleared her throat to start again. "I'm sorry. I was just thinking about how we were going to recognize the relic if no one's seen it in centuries. It would make sense if the one here is a mirror, but is there something special that will let us know for sure, without having to have all the other relics and try wishing as a check? Even if we find something with a label, on a pedestal, heavily guarded, and obviously important, it could be a fake, or a replica. It might even look like something mundane, old, and long forgotten... Umm, so... yeah?" She hoped she wasn't starting a tendency to start out perfectly coherent and peter into a mumbling uncertain mess.

((OOC: I'm assuming that sometime during my time break "..." she learns their names, and that's all))

_______________________...Don't exist.

While everyone might have offered an affirmative answer, DKay was no less skeptical than when he first posed the question.

His team was composed primarily of women and the only other male member…seemed lacking in most masculine qualities. While believing their answers was inevitable for now, the albino would have to be mindful to keep an eye on his companions should trouble present itself. He could only wonder however…if the city of Mirr was truly guarding this ancient treasure, then would the city’s armed forces be an obstacle to overcome? Would this motley crew be forced to become “criminals”?

What an exciting thought.

“Good. Keep close together then. Watch each other’s backs; we have no idea what’s down there.” Booted feet treading closer to the entrance, the black-adorned man immediately analyzed the door for details. There were no guards at the grand double-doors, composed from steel and coated with a thick layer of dark wood for appearance’s sake. Lined with silver, the door seemed to hold a mysterious majesty about it, as if housing a cursed secret yet daring the adventures to invade the building’s depths.

Wary of any hidden security personnel or magical restrictions, the self-proclaimed leader took cautious steps to the door, the night enhancing his sense of circumspection. “There are several stories that state different possibilities for distinguishing a Relic,” offered DKay in response to the dancer’s question. “Most agree with the theory that only one of the Relic’s sign can handle the object, offering a blood sacrifice for identification. Which could be why so few are able to gather the Relics, a party of twelve and one exactly of each sign is difficult to find.” Refusing to even glance at the female while he spoke in a hushed yet knowledgeable tone, the tallest of the group continued forward, ignoring the sudden dryness of his pale lips.

“Here Monteblanc,” began the scarred man, procuring the map given to him by the Scorpio girl and handing it to the much shorter female, “You can read a map, correct? You can be our guide. If you have something to write with, mark off the sections of the building we’ve been in. Everyone keep an eye out for any form of underground passage. Any door and stairway could be it.”

This was difficult…not knowing the strengths and weaknesses of his members. This short brunette however, seemed more capable of acting as intelligence than a fighter. While he could be incredibly wrong, the Taurus figured it best to trust his instincts. Besides, there was no time to contemplate further, he stood no more than a few meters from the entrance.

“Coggins,” DKay ventured, turning his head to glance at the strange boy and his mechanical pets. This younger man seemed the type to be talented with tools, so perhaps the gothic leader’s question would not seem too absurd. “Do you think you can do something about unlocking this door without setting off an alarm?”

Well, Riu listened like a good trooper to everything the little brunette had to say. She was awfully adorable, especially when she began to ramble on about things that most probably didn’t want to hear about. But by no means was he attracted to her in /that/ way. No, she resembled his little sister. Thus, his reasoning for being so nice…not that anyone knew.

-----

Alas, the groups were now parting ways in order to go find some type of entrance, and in his group specifically was Sakura, Kaiya, Fae, and Biq. Now then…this little pair seemed well enough off. Sakura seemed like a girl that could take care of herself. Kaiya was small, but she did have that tough air about her. As for Fae, well, Riu didn’t exactly want to piss her off. And then there was Biq. Of all the males to be stuck with…it was this guy. The crazy man that had been throwing fliers around, the one that seemed to have an ego the size of the sun. This could be fun.

The dusty brunette cleared his throat and turned to his group. He had no intention on speaking more than needed, but in the end his soft voice exited from vocal chords,
“Shall we then?” The same untraceable, fake smile plagued his mouth yet again before he turned his back to the others, allowing it to drop instantly. And it was at that moment that he began to head in the direction of south, staff in hand. Whether the others followed immediately was there decision. It’s not like he was taking charge per say, but they needed to get moving as soon as possible.

A few steps in the direction and something crossed his mind. It was dark. And he was wearing all white. White in darkness didn’t exactly make for a good camouflage.
“Oh, dear,” he muttered to himself, “This won’t do. I’ll attract attention faster than a shooting star.” Aqua orbs glanced about to his comrades before sighing, “Excuse me.” With those two words he removed his white robe, revealing what he actually wore underneath. A black trench coat concealed the white, long sleeved shirt, as well as the black vest. Now, he was dressed for a secret mission in the dark. Well, aside from his attire being formal wear. Without wasting too much more of their time he uttered a small spell under his breath, “Verschwinden.”* The robe as well as the staff disappeared.

Without any explanation, Riuichi continued walking.

Kaiya glanced up from her writing as she realized that they were being split up into groups. That could be problematic. She had really wanted to record everything firsthand, and if her group didn’t find the mirror, then she would be stuck with a secondhand retelling of the story. That would probably not be so bad except for the fact that she had a feeling that very few of the rather… taciturn characters that had turned up would be any good at story telling. Oh well, the Scorpio, Vesper, was in charge, so Kaiya would just have to go along with her plans unless she wanted to get herself a one-way ticket stranded with nothing to do. Still she hoped that her group had been handed the lucky straw and that she would be among the people to find the first relic. Plus, she was a Gemini, so it would be entirely fitting for either her or Astrid to be the first to recognize it. Hopefully it would be herself. Not that she knew what the mirror looked like… but it was a relic, right? It must stand out from all the rest, right? Maybe she was just giving herself airs again.

Oh well, might as well get on with it. Dumping the pages (both filled and empty of writing) into her bag, she glanced up just in time to see Riu’s fake smile and noted that she would have to be careful around him. It was impossible to know what was behind a fake smile, and she had enough experience to recognize the fake smile for what it was. Still, she danced lightly out of the room behind him as if she hadn’t noticed and peeked through her lashes at the rest of the group Such a motley group she had never before encountered. A medic centaur who claimed she would prefer not to fight, the hyper blond who had thrown the flyers into her face in the morning, a seemingly love struck pair: the smiling Pisces wizard and the serious elven Sagittarius, and of course herself: the short little girl who talked funny. They were truly a sight to behold. Any normal person that happened to notice their group in passing would probably either think they happened to all be heading in the same direction without knowing each other, or just burst out laughing at the incongruity of their types.

She stopped her forward momentum abruptly twirling to the side to prevent herself from dancing into Riu as he stopped, her eyes narrowing skeptically at his actions. She’d definitely seen better tricks before, and she couldn’t tell whether he just couldn’t think of any other way of hiding his clothes or if he was trying to show off. Either option was equally damaging to her first impression of him. Not that she meant to judge him…. She just couldn’t help analyzing the actions of those around her and searching for the small nuances that would tell her about the hidden motives. Being as rich as she was did have its drawbacks. Nothing compared to the drawbacks of not having ice, and nothing even to compare with the perks of never worrying about her financial situation, but the people you met and the society you had to deal with certainly changed the way you perceived the rest of the world. Well, these people weren’t like those people; they’d been through hardship where most her acquaintances back home had eaten from platinum spoons their whole lives. Things had to be different in the real world right? These people were different from those she knew. They deserved better, unlike those leeches at home. After all, they were out here trying their best to reach their goals, whatever they might be, instead of sitting at home lazing around like lumps. Maybe she would find out their stories, help a few of them out, and make the world a better place all at the same time. Her parents might have a little something to say about responsibility and saving, but Tanwen would understand, and that was all that mattered.

If she wanted to find out these people’s stories she would have to actually talk to them then. Determination filled her and gave her the courage to speak without squeaking “So do all of you believe in the relics?

It wasn’t quite the question she wanted to ask, but it was a harmless enough query that could be used to lead up to the information she really wanted to discover.

...the only thing to do is have a grand adventure.
