The Darkling Sea

Easily matching the pace of her employer Asalf proceeded to answer his question, "I have adapted to living an uncomfortable lifestyle. It is not often that I take the time to stay in one place for too long, and I would rather not carry to many things at one time, lest they hamper me."

Pausing for a moment Asalf let her eyes adjust to the deepening darkness of the world below. "I presume you brought an instrument with which you could see in the Underdark? If not I can provide something that will work just as well."

drow, drow, drow... undardark this, owshin dago that... it was enough to make Brennin sick.

he realy hated these dark-skinned faeries, with their red eyes, and their secrets... still, it's funny how them stories're all exagiated'n whatnot. "heh!" he chuckled, sneering as he watched the dirty little elves out of the corner of his eye.

he was on his way to the stables, just in case any of them had left their mounts behind and needed to purchase one of his horses.

honestly, he had to admit, the trades his family was versed in came in handy, no matter how much he hated them. horse-breeding, blacksmithing, orcharding, candlemaking, anything to do with bees or wax... was there anything the Benzes couldn't do?

Brennin of course wasn't skilled in all of these, but he was exposed enough that he at least had more than one usefull trade skill, and overall business skill was the pride trait of his lineage.

"yer won't get far on those things, ah!?" he yelled, once he was safely on the other side of the fence with the horses. "might wanner git yerselfs some real horses, ride ye t'anerwhere, w'thout prob'ems! garunteed!"

She couldn't say still could she, Pharryn stood tapping his feet. The caravan was ready to go and Yasril as usual was no where insight.
Her took in a deep breath in an attempt to keep his calm.
"Hey there, if your friend doesn't come soon. Then we're going." Said the caravan leader with a chuckle.
Yasril, you have a few minutes to appear before I leave you here, he thought. I would hate to have paid that money for you to waste it.

Snikket peered myopically around the gatepost to the small settlement, his eyes glowing with infravision in the dim light. The caravan was highlighted as a great glow of beasts and humanoids, and his little snout split into a wide, eager smile as he examined the goods being loaded, to say nothing of the food climbing aboard itself.

.:Snikket's done well:. he thought, .:Tap'll be glad to hear of this. We can get the boys, and give 'em a surprise. Must let Tap know. Master will be happy about this:.

Without wasting another moment the little kobold turned on his heel and darted away, clawed feet silent through the undergrowth as he raced back to the others, almost whistling in happiness.

Krelthor walked calmly into the town, he had been to many places like this and was used to the way things went. He went to a local pawn broker and looked through the instrument "How much for this lute?" The store keep looked up and smiled. He was an old man whose hair and teeth had departed him along time ago "Well then lad, for that lute I'd say 80 gold. But I'll cut that in half in exchange for your flute?" Krelthor looked at the flute slung over his shoulder, the flute was clearly worth more than 40 gold even if he wanted to sell it. "I'm afraid the flute is not for sale. How about I give you... 30 now and pay you the rest when I have it?" The mans face turned to a scoul "This ain't no charity shop kid, either pay the whole sum now or get out!" Krelthor rummaged through his pockets "Look all I have to spare is 50 gold, 55 is my maximum. What can I get for that?" The truth of the matter was that he only had 70 gold on him, but if he spent it all and he didn't make any money he wouldn't be able to eat for the night. The store keep looked at the boy and then the gold "Fine, I got something here." the man ducked beneath the counter and came up with a small harp, it was in poor condition and some of the strings were missing "I'll give you this one for 40 gold, an extra 10 for replacement strings." Krelthor handed over the gold and took the harp and set of spare strings. He sat outside and carefully replaced several of the strings, though he still lacked a B cord. "It'll have to do..."

Standing at a street corner he placed his cloak onto the ground to catch any gold. To get in touch with the locals he played a old ditty he had learnt from a fisher man.

Oh there was an old farmer who sat of a rock,
Waving and shaking his big hairy...,
Fist at the women who dined at the Ritz,
Each with a lovely pair of...,
Children.......

The song continued in this manner for several more verses, each time drawing towards a sexual remark but then changing the subject.

The merchant adjusted his pack and without as much as a second though plunged right down with his guide into the upper portions of the UnderGaia. He had a hard time, at first, adjusting to the ever fading light that shone from the entrance to subterranean Gaia, down into a vast and dangerous world of vast tunnels and caves that stretched for as far as the plains on the world above did. Eventually the light faded entirely, leaving Raymond most certainly blind in the darkness. Finally the voice of his guide broke through the eerie silence.

"Aye lass, I do. But if your method doesn't involve me burning through items that we might need later then by all means use yours. Best to save my torches and sun-rods for emergencies." Raymond was also a cheap sunuvagun and would rather see free magic used than his precious items, though his foresight and frugality might well end up saving him if the situation called for it.

"And that's probably a smart thing to do miss, I could probably learn something from you." belatedly he answered, having first been preoccupied with making sure he didn't end up falling on his face as he ventured into the underdark.

"Well, lead the way. The Starless Sea is our goal if you forgot, I'll be right behind you."

"Of course I remember, I'm half demon. Not half human!" Asalf conjured a small globe of flame that floated behind the merchant so as not to blind him or interfere with her darkvision. "That should keep you from tripping and slowing me down." The darkness was comforting to Asalf, she could forget her curse of blood and enjoy the silence of the depths. But it wasn't silent, something was ruffling above them, cloakers damn it all! "Duck, they come from above us!"

The cloakers swooped in from above trying to ram into Asalf. In reply, "Burn filth burn!" her hands ablaze Asalf blasted the five cloakers from the air, their smoldering corpses falling to the stone.

Another cloaker had come from the rear and was speeding towards her employer, "Gift of my house I beckon you!" The large artifact on Asalfs back hummed and buzzed with arcane energies which flowed into her body. "SMASH!" A large block of stone emerged on either side of the cloaker and crushed it in an instant, retracting the crushed corpse was now splattered on the wall faces.

"Your welcome, now lets get going."

The merchant didn't even get a chance to put in a word edgewise before they were set upon, though he also didn't exactly have time to draw his weapon either. As the creatures fell dead around him he stood, motionless, hand gripped tightly around the hilt of his blade. He didn't look worried, just sort of shocked. He could have taken a couple probably, but nooooooooooo.

"Showoff" he said with a sigh, letting go his saber with a hint of relief twinging in his voice, glad he didn't end up food for some horrible creature.

"Anyway, good job. Thanks for the...protection. Lets keep moving." not that she hadn't already covered that portion of the obvious advice of the day. No need to stay in the area where the dead meat was, lest some other predator be drawn to them. Regardless of whether she had started Raymond was already on the move, fading out of the lighted area should she not be following.
