First blush: Not sure about the voice acting . . . it isn't bad, but slightly off. Interesting how you can choose either Autobot or Decepticon campaigns- but they are not parallel. Rather than two sides of a same story, they take the Starcraft approach. Con's take the first few missions, then the Bots take over. A lovely approach.
As for gameplay, I am not sure. Doesn't feel too much like transformers, just a warbot game where you get to transform. Granted, that is only on first blush . . . more to come after extensive play.

I find that the gameplay in versions captures the Autobot Decepticon fight a bit better.

Agreed as far as the Decepticon then Autobot storyline goes. I like it so far, but then again I haven't watched too much of the G1 stuff and so have little to compare the game to. xd
I do like how they integrated Starscream into the story, though. I always figured that he slide his way into the Decepticons somehow rather than actually be asked to join.

One major gripe for me is the voices. I understand that we simply cannot have the direct copy of the G1 people. Such is given. Still, with the exception of Soundwave, they don't even make an attempt. Megs is gruff as hell, and while the attitude is right, growing accustomed to yet another voice for Megs is awkward. Perhaps this will change when I play to the Autobot campaign and hear Cullen's tones. We shall see.
Still, the gameplay is solid and does denote what a mechanical world would feel like in a massive civil war. Thus far I have played as Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave (in that order) . . . and the method of play must change dramatically depending on the unit, proving a great deal of depth and thought went into this.
I have a feeling that I will end up treating this as I do the Armada game. Overall approval, touting the well done parts (design, gameplay, turrets you can rip off and carry with you) and admitting the weaker parts (relation to G1, growing accustomed to a retcon of TFs).

I thought it was to create a back story to G1? I was urked when they named Optimus the wrong name before he became a Prime... he was suppose to be Orion Pax not "Optimus", besides that it was a good stand alone piece. It's like WarWithin.

After playing for awhile I'd have to agree, it's not so bad on the Decepticon side but Bumblebee's voice actor irks me to no end, and the way they wrote the script for him. He's not yet to Earth and he sounds way too human.
The Energon plotline to me as well is irking me, as I've known Omega Supreme to be the sort of untouchable bot as far as moral values go, and isn't Cybertron Primus?

I feel that this game is equal parts homage and retcon. Fans like us are well aware of facts like Orion Pax, and the war's truly early days. Each version of Transformers seems to reconstruct history a little bit, from Beast Wars/Machines, to Armada, to Bay. I personally love the origin story put out by IDW for Megatron.
Still, they had to offer a way to provide enough new material to make this appealing to fans while still making it accessable to the masses. I still feel like the game is a war game with transformation secondary. Thus far I have not encountered any situation where transforming helped in any way other than providing a fresh weapon to shoot.

BogiePop o cant play it crying i got the computer game but my puter isint good enuff for the game so tomorrow im going to return it for the ds game Yeah, that's the problem I'm running into as well, you need a really nice graphics card to run it. My laptop barely meets the min requirements so I can only run it for about an hour or hour and a half before it tanks. You could always upgrade your computer, which kind do you have?

The game was build on the Gears of War engine so it would have that feel for sure. If you were to redesign it, what would you change and why?

The gameplay is solid, and works. If anything, the feel needs a tweak for the references. Still, by the end of the Decepticon campaign, I was growing to appreciate the retcon. Hearing the banter was fun. "We made it . . . WE MADE IT!!" "Yes Breakdown. Your incessant whining saw us through."
Or a now classic. "I'll show you dumb, Starscream!!!" "You always do."
Now, I have completed the Con campaign, and played not even all five parts of the first of five Autobot campaigns . . . and already feel myself loving the game more. Seems the Cons focus far more on blasting, which is understandable. The gameplay remains the same for the Bots, but with far more comraderie among soldiers . . . and such is drawing me in far more than the climactic fight against Omega Supreme.
Or is that Cullen's voice, paired with the voice actor for Zero/Ichigo? cool

My brother and I (he watches me play and screams in my ear whenever he sees a cloaked autobot xd ) have a good laugh over those. I personally think that there needs to be more story to the game, but that's just my game preference- I like games that focus on the story.

Given the personal festivities of this day, I was given the opportunity to play most of the day. I plowed through much of the Autobot campaign, and had more fun than is medically advisable. I offer a quick note- playing as Warpath was SLAGGING AWESOME!!!
The gameplay is just the same, but the interaction between people in the Autobot campain is what I was missing. I now stamp this game as awesome! The Con section was alright, and in hindisght, that is what a warlike group would do. A bit of trash talking, and all business of killing. Autobots are more compassionate and makes sense to be fun and rib each other.

That's good to know. 3nodding I'll be starting that section soon. Will definately go with Warpath when the time comes.
On a additional note, has anyone tried the multiplayer section yet? I won't be able to with my laptop until August, when I go back to the campus Wi-Fi.

There is a drawback to the intensely fun Warpath. In that mission, there is one collectible Decepticon logo that cannot be reached unless you play as Optimus. If that doesn't matter, then by all means go for Warpath. And just to prove how fun he is . . .
